Good TO GO coffee. They have like 8 seats & let people linger forever to have the wifi. So forget about getting a seat.

Best Coffee shop by far in Chicago and possibly outside of Sydney (if that is possible)

I use to live in Sydney, where good coffee was in abundance and in particular Flat Whites my favourite, when we first moved to Chicago I struggled to find a good coffee shop that did a decent coffee. I am so not into the average cup of "Joe"

So when I discovered these guys and they were happy to make me a Flat White and that flat white was so so good, I have been back time and time again and they are actually my coffee shop of choice and what I would call my local coffee shop too.

Always so friendly and accommodating, they know me well now and I don't even need to order my drink, they know my coffee and how I like it and I like that - that's a great coffee shop.

And if that isn't enough, it's a lovely modern coffee shop, decor is just right and the staff are fantastic.

    Definitely worth a visit.

They have ti kuan yin tea here! I was surprised. This is the kind of tea that my dad would buy, so I got a cup of this. It reminded me of sitting at home, drinking tea with my dad. Their ti kuan yin was pretty good.

Like Yanyao N. warned, it gets pretty warm if/when you're sitting by the window facing the sun. As I came here on a cold day, I found myself kept having to alternate between wearing a sweater and taking it off.

Best coffee and lattes in downtown Evanston.  This is basically Brothers K's smaller sibling (I think started by one of the Kim brothers).  It has a very different style from Brothers K--there's just room for a long counter by the windows, no table.  It tends to be fairly empty, so it's a good place to come study for a bit.  And the baristas are friendly as well.

I was in the area for a conference, and from the Yelp reviews, I knew that I could count on this place for coffee. This was a fantastic location to spend a couple of hours of downtime. My mocha was sweet and beautifully made. I grabbed a reasonably priced spinach-feta stuffed pie, which was a nice mid-afternoon pick-me-up. The barista was friendly to everyone who walked in the door, and even warmed up my spinach pie for me. The seating is a bit uncomfortable, but I get the impression that not a lot of people come here and stay. Still, I enjoyed watching people out the huge, gorgeous windows that let in plenty of sunshine. Thanks, Other Brother! I'll definitely come back if I'm ever in Evanston again.

There are many things about this place that keeps me coming back again and again.

Now I haven't had any fancy drinks yet, but as one who is more of a straight up coffee drinker, I'd say TOBC knows exactly what they're doing when it comes to brew.  Of course they use Metropolis beans (and we all know how tasty these are) and I've always had an excellent cup each time I've been in there.  Consistency with coffee is key seeing that we sleepy eyed java zombies don't like change.  It's a comfort to know that my morning joe is going to be hot, flavorful and there will be no surprises when it lands in my half opened hand.

The breakfast items I've had are outstanding.  My absolute hands down favorite is the blueberry scone.  In fact, it's so much so that I hesitate to mention it for fear they will run out!  I've had scones from many other coffee shops and bakeries in Evanston, but this one is superb as it's the closest I've tasted to homemade.  They are light and fluffy (not doughy or heavy at all), the insides are packed with fresh blueberries and the outside edges have just the right amount of tiny crunch (maybe crisp is a better word?).  Either way, it tells you it's been made with butter...mmmmm!  I've also had really good luck with the ham and cheese croissant as well as the chocolate croissant.  Crunchy layers of buttery phyllo yield to a soft, light center.

The decor at TOBC is fairly simple with the exception of art for sale on the wall.  My guess is that these are local artists selling their works, but it seems to change a lot which of course is nice to see when you come in often.  There are no tables inside, but there is a counter and bar stool seats along the windows (great for people watching!).  There are outside tables and chairs, but obviously during warmer weather only.

I've never had bad service in TOBC.  People are quick to greet you as you walk in and are very helpful in making recommendations.  Of the two dozen plus times I've been there, only once was I mildly irritated at louder than usual music greeting me.  I do think this may have had to do with the employees there at the time though because I've never encountered it again.

Also, not quite sure where to put this in the review, but gosh darn if I didn't see Coke in a glass bottle inside a refrigerated case off to the left of the counter.  If you've never had it this way, then you are totally missing out because the taste is completely different.  Most of the time it comes in plastic or aluminum cans, so you generally have to go to a neighborhood grocer if you want it in glass bottles and even then it's hit or miss.  Good to know it's around if I have a hankering.

So, in sum I highly recommend TOBC.  They are a nice neighborhood joint that carries quality food items, has seriously good coffee and great service.

3/16/12, There was a nice modern feel to the shop but most importantly a unique robustness to their coffee. Much better than Starbucks, Caribou, etc.  I'm in sales and also part of a new opera company in the Chicago area, so I'm on the road a lot and always look for a good coffee house.  NICE!

Really nice coffee place. This is my favorite coffee in Evanston and they have Bennison's doughnuts too! Nice employees and it's always very tidy.

They need to have a roll-off with the two "brothers" coffee shops here in Evanston... It would be a good battle to see who makes the best espresso drinks... Which are, in my opinion, the best in Evanston.

My personal verdict is this... Main and Hinman gets the slight edge for best latte... But Grove and Sherman gets my vote for the better soy chai latte with an added shot of espresso (just to make it dirty).

Best hazelnut latte I've ever had...hands down.  Ham and Spinach puff pastry was to die for.  Very friendly staff and John the owner is extremely friendly and accommodating.  A warm, inviting place to get a cup of coffee.

I really enjoyed this coffee shop.  It's good to see there are still options that are not big, national chains.  The staff was friendly and the coffee was delicious.

The cortado here was probably one of the best I have ever HAD! About an hour or two earlier I was at Cafe Mozart, which is around the corner. Word to the wise- skip that and come directly here. You will not be disappointed. Customer service was great. Drinks, even better!

I actually like the look of this coffee shop. Very hip. No tables with  shirt wearing Che Guevara types(although  maybe they frequent the  other brother coffee house, lol!) Maybe the lack of little tables keep those types away. Good for me. Since I am actually half third world via my mom, I actually like not being around people who have never actually experienced poverty and try to look like they do. I just want to drink a good cup of Metropolis coffee!

When I am in Evanston again, this will definately my  go-to caffeine pit stop.

I have walked past this coffeehouse so many times this year, but I never was too keen on going in. It looked a little sterile and impersonal from the outside. Boy was I wrong! Not only were the people behind the counter super helpful (they explained the difference between their macchiato and a certain coffee empire's) but just plain ol' nice and friendly.

And the coffee! Oh my gosh...the coffee! I've had Metropolis before and enjoyed it, I mean it's Metropolis for goodness sake, but never like this! My cappuccino was rich and creamy and just the right milk/froth/espresso ratio. Swoon.

I also got a blueberry scone and it was easily one of THE BEST I've ever had. The guy behind the counter told me they get them from the Lucky Platter over on Main Street, man they know their butter and flour over their. Kudos to Brian.

I only have it four stars because of the weird seating arrangement. I don't like to have my back facing the door or all the action behind the counter so the seating arrangement was not for me but the drinks and treats certainly were!

Go to the Other Brother Coffeehouse. You will not be disappointed!

The Other Brother Coffeehouse demonstrates that an espresso machine and long, white bar tables are all you really need in a chic, neighborhood coffeehouse as long as you have workers who really know how to prepare their coffee.

I absolutely love their Cortados! These short, single or double shot delights transport you back to coffee bars in Italy, where you fight through uncaffeinated Italians shouting out orders, grab and quickly enjoy your drink by the bar window and then head off to start your day (Italians know and are serious about their coffee.)

The workers here impressed me with their precision in preparing the coffee. Their ratio of milk to coffee in the cortado is just right. Plus, it's not everyday when you hear one saying, "And your next cortado is coming in about 7 seconds." It may seem humorous at first, but no...I think she's just that good. If only they were a bit more friendly..

Just tried their ham and cheese croissant. It's positively the best I've had and totally hit the spot! Thanks for heating it up in the oven :)

This place is not a coffeehouse, as it there are only a few places to sit and it is oriented to make people go in and out. But the coffee here is superb, and the pastries are very good. Great spot to get a really good cup of coffee.

I almost always start my mornings with a large black coffee from Bennison's but it's nice to have options. I took advantage of the nice weather last week, walked a few extra blocks and finally tried out Other Brother. The chai was great and like others have said, it's hard to go wrong with Metropolis coffee. The staff was really friendly and they had Le Tigre on the stereo the second time I came in. I really like the art they have up and the fun logo they have for their cups. I wouldn't pick this coffeehouse if I wanted to sit and chat with a friend or study but I will certainly be back for the amazing chai.

Came in with my boo this morning.  I had a black coffee, it was a bean from Peru.  Ok, pretty light, citrusy.  I prefer bolder coffee, but it may have just been what they happen to have been brewing this morning. My boo had a cappuccino which was pretty good and fairly priced ($2.50ish for the short size).  In terms of environment, it is bright and functionally an espresso bar where most customers either shoot and run or get their drinks to go.  Don't come here if you're looking for comfy couches to post up on and do work, there is probably a total of 15 feet of counter space on which you could work. Didn't have any food.

Cute place, even though it looks more "cafeteria" than what you would typically think a coffeehouse should look like.  But I am not here to sit and loll around, I am getting my joe to go, along with a blueberry muffin.  The Tour De Cafe card gets me a large drip coffee (n/c) and the muffin is all of $2.

I notice the coffee is Metropolis (swoon) and I am beyond pleased to see it was brewed perfectly and arrives piping hot. The two baristas working were immensely friendly and asked a bunch of questions about the card, how it worked, how I liked it so far, etc.

The muffin is a tiny, baked delight, with a ton of berries, moist cake, and an underlying spice - the mystery of what it was I could not solve - but only added to the overall enjoyment.  Noone should have this kind of midday joy in the form of a drink and a snack for $2, but it happened!

I dont get up to Evanston as much as I used to, but I can probably be persuaded to go more now that I know of this place!

The non-stop K-pop on the giant video wall is beyond groovy.   The staff uniforms are a snappy, caffeinated blend of Asiana and Korean Air looks.

We often go out of our way to get coffee here. The baristas know how to make a consistently good cup of coffee and the pastries are fantastic. Service is always fast and efficient. I only wish they had more comfortable tables and chairs for hanging out and enjoying my coffee.

Great coffee. I tried their mocha and apricot cheese flakey (after reading all these reviews).

Any place that brews Metropolis is a good place to enjoy coffee. And the staff was friendly, which also helped.

Great people watching place but not a lot of people were walking by when I was there.

    I'd go back often!

I am obsessed with the turquoise wall at Other Brother.  Yes, I know it's a coffee shop and this should be a review about the beautiful metropolis lattes, or the friendly-but-not-trying-too-hard service, or their ferrari-like espresso machine, but this review is about the wall. Seriously.

This is definitely not the best place to study or spend a few hours -- the stainless steel benches with no backs and narrow counters make sure of that.  But go, support your local Evanston business, and appreciate that happiness-inspiring wall.

I had been to the Brothers K a couple of times and liked it, so I was excited to see this place open across the street from my office.  Since the ICB had closed, I didn't have a "local" anymore, and although my wallet was happy, I did occasionally want an afternoon espresso.

Service is very hit and miss though. There are a couple friendly faces, but a few really grumpy folks too. Atmosphere is nice, and the coffee is usually really good, but one time it was full of grounds.  Espresso, also good.  However, with cappuccinos, lattes, etc - stick with the small size.  Apparently all the larger size gets you is MORE MILK.  I was actually told that all the sizes have two shots of espresso.  Even in a medium and large you have to pay extra if you want more than two shots.  This doesn't seem to make sense, but that's what two people said, and that's how it tastes.  A medium cappuccino had two shots of espresso and about a cup and a half of milk.    I've questioned this before, and on my most recent trip, the staff was even a little argumentative.  I was making a point to go in a couple times a week, but I guess I've given up for now.

I've always enjoyed the Brothers K on Main and I couldn't be happier to have their coffee available downtown. It is a tiny, charming coffee shop with not much seating, so don't expect the full experience of the Main location.  That guy that sits in the corner on his laptop sucking down coffee and bandwidth day and night isn't there, nor are the old-lady tile game club or banjo guy.  Typically the crowd is limited to one or two suits on coffee break.  Still, it retains some of the charm by displaying lots of local art for sale and offering the greatest pastry in Evanston, the Lucky Platter Apricot Cheese Flakey.  Most importantly, their latte tastes approximately 20x better than any others in the area, so long as you ask them to make it super hot.  They tend to give you a lukewarm one if you don't.  Not a full coffeehouse experience, just amazing coffee.

Why have I not discovered you before??!!

Okay, so there isn't much seating available, but the coffee and croissants are so delicious that the lack of seating is forgivable.

You need to order a latte. Seriously.

I love the Brothers K Coffeehouse on Main. I used to go in there all the time for teas, juices, cakes, croissants, and spinach pies back when I lived across the street. Now, they've opened a second outpost close to me and I rejoice!

It doesn't matter if you're not a coffee drinker because this location has one prized item available: The famous Apricot Cheese Flakey. That's right folks, now you no longer have to make it to Lucky Platter for breakfast/brunch to get your hands on these things because they sell them here, by themselves, for $2.50 each. *happy dance*

Espresso drinking consuming J tells me that they make a nice latte, if that strikes your fancy. They also have a cooler with assorted juiced and boxed water.

Keep in mind that this space is quite small (housed in the old Italian Coffee House space) and it gets pretty toasty in there in the early afternoon because of the windows and sun. But honestly, with the friendly staff and apricot cheese flakeys (!!!!!) who cares? Not me.

Walked in on a quiet Wednesday evening.  I immediately noticed the simplicity of the store, from the stools, counters, and shelves to the grinders and Marzocco lined up like soldiers.  I was served an excellent macchiato, although it was in a paper cup and I was drinking it at the store.  Seating is limited to counter seating in front of the windows, which is great for people watching, watching the sun go down and counting the number of cop cars that patrol the streets.  For the few minutes I was there, I felt like I was part of a modern day Nighthawks painting.
