Since the last time I was here, they have made some changes. To the decor, seating and menu.
The front area now has some higtop tables and cozy looking seats. It is much more inviting. Not that it was cold before, but it leaves an impression now.
The menu has had some changes. I have loved the Kentucky Proud Pork Burger. Which they still have, but the honey mustard sauce has changed. The beer cheese was good, but it was strange to have it served with a small loaf of bread that needs to be sliced....I'm used to having big soft pretzels, chips or hunks of bread. It's really good, it was just a little strange.
So the food is good. Our server at lunch on 1/26/13 was fantastic, think his name may have been John.

    A very good, tasty lunch!

I love a good Irish pub and this one delivers on all expectations. Carved booths and bar, great beer selection on draft, knowledgable staff. It may be that I was loving on it so much because I had mighty fun company, but I definitely could while away some hours on a cold day in this place. Didn't have the food.

They have some good beers, and the food is good for irish pub fare. It was really dark and the music was too loud for me. I used to frequent the O'Shea pubs after college, and loved the beer nights. They have 2 beers of the night, and you get to keep the glasses from those beers; I had quite the collection before moving (including a Holy Grail and Hobgoblin).

FUN! I was also with some of the best people I know so that always helps.
Live music on a Friday night.
We sat in the back of the restaurant where Mumford & Sons music was playing and our waitress was dancing. I knew it was going to be a great place. Our waitress remembered all our names and the manager stopped by to chat.
We only ordered drinks (no food) but great atmosphere.

The evening started with the owner welcoming us and giving us abut of history about the building and the business. Fascinating. Our waiter was great - very helpful and pleasant and right there when we needed him. The free chips and queso were a surprise and our food was hot and delicious. As we were about to leave, the owner offered us a tour of the basement which is another amazing bar filled with bourbon barrels, tables made from original beams and lights that look like old time gaslights  What a lovely end to a great evening. Thanks, Tom O'Shea!

I'm basing this on beer and appetizers.  Check someone else to hear about the food.

I'm betting that the torrential downpour that ran our party of 4 away from the Bats game down the street was also to blame for the extremely sparse crowd on a Friday night. Or, maybe everyone else was at home watching the Olympic opening ceremonies.  Who knows?  Either way, it worked out well for us as we got a cozy booth in the back room.

Our server was all smiles and very helpful in giving suggestions (particularly that I looked like I might need another beer).  The beer selection is good, but not amazing.  They have a wider selection than you'll find at most pubs and stay away from lighter fare, but I wasn't overwhelmed or immensely excited by it.  The mixed drinks are also reportedly strong.

I had the beer cheese which was the best I've had in a long time.  It was very creamy, not watered down and went very well with the pretzel bites.

Great location, friendly staff and the dark heavy-wood feel that an Irish pub should have.

Authentic decor, good selection of beers. Food was average at best. Salad was not crisp, lettuce was warm, artichoke dip was mushy and bland (the waitress could not tell us which cheese was in it). The only redeeming dish was the Reuben wontons although it had microscopic specs of corned beef, but it was tasty. Will not return here unless I need authentic beer.

stopped in early evening for a few drinks post dinner, and was greeted right away. The main bar is long and huge. Nice decor. Friendly and helpful service. Drinks are cheap, stiff. Has an upper level (didnt get to see bc was booked by a private party), lower level is awesome; unfortunately no one was down there, has lots of old barrels and vintage decor. Make sure to walk around and see it all. Every bartender was knowledgeable. They said on the weekends there's a DJ at midnight, but we didnt stay that long, will make sure to go back at a later time during the night. All in all a great place for drinking.

With so much going on in Louisville this weekend, we thought we might have to wait....but this place is so big, that the staff took us right to a table when we walked in.  The food was great!  I ordered traditional fish and chips.  Usually, when you go to an Irish pub the fish are small fillets that you can eat in couple of bites, but not here!  I had two huge fillets probably 3/4-1 inch thick.  Minimal beer batter...I had to eat most with utensils!  Loved it!  Will go back again when I'm in the L-ville area!

Now we're talking.  I went back because of a Groupon and wasn't disappointed.  I ordered my buffalo burger rare, and it arrived RARE!  Perfect!  So full of flavor and juicy, just the way I wanted it.  And the fish and chips my wife ordered was great as well.  Cold beer and burgers, perfect together.

And the waitress remembered me even though we had only met twice.  I like that.

So they have redeemed themselves in my eyes.

I ended up here on my great Mother's Day Bar Crawl A Thousand Miles From Home of 2012.

It was a rainy kind of sunday, and the bar wasn't jammed, so I just sat at the bar, had an appetizer, and got through as much of the beer list as I could.

The beers are truly spectacular. I stuck to local brews, and they were all amazing. I particularly liked the Bourbon Barrel Aged Stout. If you get one beer from here, make sure it's that one.

The appetizer I suggest is the Rueben Wontons. I love me a good rueben, and this place apparently knows how to cook it something fierce. I tried a couple other apps and drinks and such, but these are the staples here, and you must try them.

The service was very good, though it was not busy so the servers and bartender all had a few minutes to chit chat.

I never really expected to find an Irish Themed Pub I was a fan of in Loiusville, but am glad I did.

This bar has a strong drink selection and fair prices. The servers were knowledgeable and capable, but just a bit overwhelmed with the packed house.

The atmosphere was crowded, lively and loud, and a lot of fun. That said, it didn't really have a "pub" feel to me, and struck me more as a hoppin' retro-styled college/yuppie bar.

We didn't get a chance to try the food, so I can't speak for it other than to say the staff at our hotel raved about it.

I'd definitely go back if I'm ever in the neighborhood again.

You're in a hurry, lunch, dinner, a snack, a beer...whatever the particular need, I think you can count on O'Shea's for dependably good pub food, with attentive smiling service. In this case we(my seminar group) and I enjoyed a casual lunch at one of the long booths in the back. I enjoyed the Bison Chili, well prepared, well-seasoned, but not too spicy and we all shared a French fries appetizer. I say shared since one serving will feed 4-5 folks easilly. Additionally two dipping sauces come with the fries and we enjoyed the blue cheese and the vinegar Mayo dips. O'Sheas is a welcome addition to the ever busy Main St corridor and I have found it dependable and customer-friendly

Pro - Great food, very nice Drink selection, good music, and very reasonable prices. Also the staff was very knowledgeable about the different drinks.
Con - The only thing that I didn't like was that it was already really dark when we entered and within the 2hrs that we were there they dimed the lights twice. Small complainte but I like to see the people I'm having dinner with.

    Really, really liked this place.

Best place in Downtown Louisville for a great craft beer selection. 15 on tap and at least 50 by the bottle. Great selection for the beer geeks amongst us.

Had the best Reuben ever, in Louisville, KY of all places.

Atmosphere is dark and noisy and the service was outstanding.

my first ever 5 star review.

    Go there NOW!

I've been to O'Sheas a few times for lunch and with my co-workers after work. They have a good choice of beers and other alcoholic beverages, and their menu offers a delicious selection of burgers and sandwiches. There is ample seating indoors but if the weather is nice, you can sit outside to enjoy your meal and drink while taking in the sights and sounds of downtown Louisville. Every meal I've eaten here was very tasty.

I used to go to O'Shea's simply because I was craving their stuffed breadsticks appetizer.  So, imagine my disapointment the last time I went in and found that it had been eliminated from their newly revamped and condensed menu.  Upon inquiry I was advised that they had removed items that took too long to cook or prepare.  Unfortunately this appears to have been all of their best items.  I may not have been the only one to notice this as O'Shea's was completely empty during a weekday dinner service, an occurance I had never before encountered.  After looking over the new menu my fellow diner and I briefly contemplated going across the street to Imperazellis but ultimately decided to try the new menu.  I substituted chicken on a classic burger (offered on the menu at no extra charge) and was rather iffy about the chicken.  Essentially chicken should be moist and not slimy when it is served.  My fellow diner ordered a Patrick's Burger and did enjoy his meal.  I'll give them two stars for that.  I used to enjoy the food at O'Shea's but I'm afraid that this menu change just might be restaurant suicide.

went here w/group of friends for late dinner.  What's good : the pommes frites are amazing - best thing on their menu.  A must order!

What's not so good : they seem to run out of things.  A LOT of things.  My sandwich order was on completely different bread as described in menu.  Waitress didn't explain change, just plopped it in front of me.  We were with a large group and I didn't want to complain but not good.  And more than one time our group tried to order things and they were out of something - probably happened a total of 5-6 times for both food and drink requests.  Both the "sorry we're out of ___" and the random changes to food orders moves it down my recommendation list and off my meal list entirely.  Will go back for appetizers only and elsewhere for more reliable meals.

I discovered Bourbon Beer here and for that, I am forever grateful! I am not a huge fan of dark beers, or bourbon for that matter, but the combo makes my taste buds happy.
The service was slow, but there was only one server for our entire group (of about 25). Bartender was quicker.
We easily were able to find an area near the back bar, and stand/steal booths on a Thursday night.
Went here for a mixer while in town/attending a convention at The Galt House.
Ordered a few appetizers - beer cheese, fried crap. Beer cheese was good! Asked for more stuff to dip into the junk and didn't have an issue bringing out as much as we wanted.
Nice decor - has art on the brick walls and dark wood/iron throughout.
I'd go back & recommend the place.

I'm kind of on the fence between three and four stars for this one, but I don't think I'm comfortable issuing a strong endorsement for this place (at least not based on my two visits so far). Patrick O'Shea's strikes me as . . . not that interesting. However, they do offer a pretty decent beer selection, which is what I look for in a bar. As Kristen W pointed out, on Wednesdays they do a pint night featuring a special draught, so that's fun.

The food has me less impressed, although to be fair I have only nibbled while drinking. The fries were just okay, although the Irish Curry Sauce was fun. The "rumbledethumps" which I ordered for the sole purpose of saying the name, were pretty good--they're a cheesy potato cabbage mash of some sort.

The service has been good each time I've visited.  Like many of the Irish bars in town, the interior is massive. One one hand, this is kind of nice because it means it's easier to find seating and they can accommodate large groups. But the size ends up invoking a sort of corporate vibe to me,
which may be why ultimately, I just don't dig the place that much.

We went here for a Wednesday night pint night. Since it was our first time, we were worried that the place might be really crowded, or they would have run out of the feature brew before we got there (we arrived at 7:30, there are conflicting times for the advertised start, some places say 6pm, some 7pm). To our surprise, the place was pretty empty. We were seated after a short wait (the hostess was nowhere to be found, so the bartender took her duties when she saw us and 2 other parties standing around). We ordered the pint night beer (which that night was a Dogfish Head Festina Peche), which arrived as a nice glass (which is yours to keep) and... a bottle of beer. I just laughed - a bottle is not a pint, and the advertising talks of "tapping" a new beer, which I guess to them means opening a bottle? No harm, really. We're not ones to get upset about something that silly, we just found it funny. The beer was really tasty, and we both ordered 2, so now we have 4 fun-shaped Dogfish Head glasses at home to remember the night by. They were $7.50/bottle, so it's not like you're getting a great deal, but it was fun to go, try a new beer, and come home with some glassware.

For food, I got a reuben, hubs got a GIANT chicken cordon bleu. Both were good, but next time we'll probably just stick with the "pints" and eat at home.

Who knew that Louisville was a hotbed for Irish bars. I visited 3 in 2 days, all within a 6-8 block area, and they all seem to be out "irishing" each other. Having spent time in many pubs both in SF and while in London & Edinburough, they seem to have it down.
I only stopped in for a drink at O'Shea's, and thought it only only OK for atmosphere for an Irish place. Dark wood bar & back bar, check. Not brighly lit, check. Wood floor, table & chairs, check. Faint smell of beer & cigs, check. But open ceiling (more than 10 feet high) in old wherehouse building lost a bit in the cozyness necessary to make it a real joint.
Freindly service (thanks Missy for introducing yourself) makes it a retunr spot if I'm ever back in this neck of the woods.

I love the atmosphere, the beer selection, and the European style fish and chips. The staff is pretty friendly, but the music can be way too loud, especially in certain booths by speakers.

It was practically empty the Saturday afternoon I visited with friends after a photo walk. Service was prompt and our food was delicious. Also, they didn't seem to be annoyed by the fact we were snapping photos of all of our food, beer, etc. which is always a plus!

Ate here on my last trip to Louisville.  It was so good that we went back a second night.  A bit pricy but a great beer list and good food make it a worthwhile trip.  The staff was quite friendly.

Deceptively huge place, on the outside it looks cramped but lots of room on the first and second floors. We were very impressed with the decor, very old world feeling without being overdone. All of the bar were very friendly and forthcoming with free samples of their broad selection of locally brewed and craft beer. We were there for a birthday party and ate only what was provided by the host, all of which was very good! In particular there was a rueben egg roll with thousand island dipping sauce, very very tasty!

First impressions of this place are great! Absolutely beautiful bar juxtaposing ancient 8X24 timbers, some standard pub decorations, and quality modern art.  Two levels greet you now, with another to come when the neighboring arena opens. I particularly enjoyed the Maguire paintings featuring notable Irishman in a Neiman-Warhol treatment.

The staff is extremely friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable.

The menu features pub classics, steaks, and burgers, plus an extensive list of quality small run brews (think Flying Dog. Left Hand, Breckenridge, Abita, Belgiums), guessing about 160.

I am also guessing that NOW is the time to come here, because it's gonna be mad crowded when the new arena gets going in a couple of months.

Nice selection of Scotch and Irish Whiskey as well.

Decor is very nice - looks new / remodeled.

Great long bar and lots of beer, cider and non alcoholic drinks on tap.  Cocktail menu was rather boring - I felt the need to get a bourbon or whiskey drink since I'm in KY so I ordered the Churchill - it was pink.  Odd no?

When we were eventually seated, it did take a while for the waitress to come by and take our drink order.  After that though, service was good.  She impressively brought out all 6 entrees at once.

My chopped salad with fried chicken was average (and no, I wasn't deluding myself into thinking I was being healthy).  The balsamic vinaigrette was a bit too tart for me - but generous portions of chicken.  I also had the french onion soup which was delicious - with still crunchy croutons.

Nice selection of drafts & bottles. This place is cool and much bigger than its front suggests. Upstairs was kinda dead this time of day, or day of week, but regardless this place can obviously handle crowds. Very friendly service.

They put some serious money into this place.  The whole building is renovated and when they're done there'll be a basement bar and a rooftop bar.  First time I went in the bartender gave me the scoop.  They really tried to keep a lot of the original architecture and materials (some of the tables are made of the original wood).  Anyway, GREAT beer selection and good food too. The calamari is good (same as the other O'Shea's) and I had the melt with the beer cheese, mmmm, beer cheese.

(Seriously, how am I still the only reviewer?)

Allowing that St. Patrick's Day isn't like any other day of the year for a pub, it is a fair test of an Irish pub's mettle.  And Patrick O'Shea's was up to the challenge.

I ducked out of work a bit early to secure a table, and it was good that I did as the crowd had filled in nicely by 5:30 or so.  The limited menu for the occasion worked well: our food was out within 10 minutes of putting in an order.  My burger was a bit more well-done than I prefer, but the Jameson's sauce more than made up for it.

Technically, they did have green beer for those that value that sort of thing, but they had a decent array of better beverages on tap.  (BBC Bourbon Barrel Stout - yum!)

Kudos to the servers - even though the place was packed, my beer was never empty.  The young woman who had our table was attentive and engaging without hovering or interrupting.  The fifth star was entirely due to her.
