Overall, average. However, their Thai ice coffee and Vietnamese chili oil condiment are superb (5). Fresh spring rolls (4), crab Rangoon (5) Pad see eiw (5) pad woo sen (2), service (3).

This restaurant is now Duck Walk, same menu, same location, but misleading. In any case, the lunch special was great for the price, $6.95 for an appetizer, and a noodle dish or entree. I ordered a spicy noodle dish and added an additional 2 spoonfuls of the chili oil on the table and although the flavor was delish, it wasn't spicy enough for me. Guess my tolerance went up for spice...but also ordered the soup with coconut, lemongrass and chicken, it was delish and on a freezing cold day, spicy and hot soup seems like a perfect combo.

This review is for their pho.

I am from Seattle, and Pho is a STAPLE in my diet. Its also my hangover food, and finding authentic Pho near my place has proven difficult. I can't always be going to Uptown to find it. After a decent search (6 other places) I can say this is the most authentic pho in this area. I love it. I order delivery at least once a week. Delivery is always fast, and they always get my order right. (I always order an extra side of beef and an extra side of noodles) I've never eaten IN the restaurant, but have picked up once, and the place is bright and clean and fairy decent sized.

If they deliver to you go with Noodles Party instead. This Pho does the trick and was the only option available, but it certainly wasn't the best I have ever had.

Phoking delicious.

Okay, so I've only ever had the fresh spring rolls and the pho chay. And I've only ever had their pho chay so I have nothing to compare it to...but that's beside the point.

Delivery's super fast and they give you all the fun stuff (broth, veggies, noodles, bean sprouts, lime, fresh still-on-the-stem basil and uh...plum sauce?) separated, so it's like an adventure putting it all together. Perhaps that's how it's always done, but I was impressed. It gives you a sense of accomplishment, ya know? Makes you feel a little better about ordering in...again...since you in fact did some of the work. Oh, and the spring rolls were good too.

RIP Pho and I. I loved you. You were the home to my favorite chicken broth filled with an obscene amount of noodles and vietnamese egg rolls. I was totally crushed when I went there last night and your doors were locked and your lights weren't on. Crushed.

It just to be one of my favorite restaurants, the food is fresh and have an excellent cook! One of my favorites is lemon grass vegetable tofu pho so delicious! no body can make it like them! Too bad they just closed their location on Lakeview.

Not the best pho and not the worst that I've had either. Just some decent pho. Took awhile for food to come out and service was not very snappy either but once the food came out it was fine. They were also out of bubble tea when I went. The prices were not super expensive either. If you're in the neighborhood and need some pho go here. If you need to have really good pho and have time travel to argyle and go to one of the good pho houses there.

Kind of a fail for pho but it was the closest spot to me in Lincoln Park when I was craving it. My friends and I were so ready for some delicious soup on a cold and rainy day but when we arrived, we were told there was no beef pho? It was fine though since we were more than happy to go with chicken. Sadly, the flavor fell flat and there were not many noodles. It left me unsatisfied. It also took ages for it to come out. Why? Pho is the fastest thing ever since the broth just sits there waiting. The only reason they are getting 3 stars is because the shrimp toast was banging. $17 for shrimp toast and pho? No go.

Went for lunch today in an effort to knock out my cold. Was torn between Argyle and trying this local joint.

I was not disappointed with the pho bo, but definitely not as good as the real deal. Smaller portion, almost no meat and accoutrements were lacking.

Friendly and inviting place which worked great in a pinch. Won't hurry back, but could try it again.

Adore. I'm a Pad Thai addict.
I loved Duck Walk for the longest time, moved further away but kept hunting for that same pad thai. It's here at Pho & I. Great for take out and equally great for a date. Love the BYOB. Love the Bravo TV playing in that ONE TV in the corner. Love the little green candies that I still can't decipher the flavor of.

If you don't have good broth, you might as well change the name of your noodle shop to "We're Phocked." Fortunately theirs is great!

Ala Mr. Jackson, http://www.youtube.com/w… the Pho Bo 'knows' round steak and brisket in a hearty beef broth. The traditional Vietnamese soup is served with sliced onion, scallion, cilantro and is super delicious. Along with pretty generous chunks of meat and perfectly cooked noodles they've also got some fresh spring rolls and other apps that I'd come back for.

In addition they're BYO making a pretty cheap night out whether you're with a date or dining out by pho-self.

I love me a good bowl of Pho, and this place delivered. While the service was a touch slow that I'm used to and it could have used a bit more of the noodles, I was still completely satisfied when I left. Also, the BEST crab Rangoon I have ever had! Pricing was wonderful too. Also, B.Y.O.B., so enjoy some wine with your Pho!

Ok, I avoided this place for a year because their pho is so bad and it's call Pho and I. But after I got over their bad pho and decided to just order other stuff it turned out okay. Rule of thumb for ethnic food - be racist. They're Thai so now I only order their Thai dishes which were great. We love the avocado curry, the glass noodles, and fish cakes. It's BYOB which is nice and there's a nice small outdoor area. It's usually not crowded because they get a lot of carry out and because of their bad pho...They should really just change their name to Thai Etc or something.

Decent place for Pho. Service is slower than what I'm use to at Vietnamese places and portions are a smaller. Still have the same satisfied fullness after Pho. I would probably try another place.

Little did I know that this place has the best vegan pho! I've been on an endless search for vegan pho in Chicago for quite some time and I'm happy to say that search is finally over. I recommend the Pho Chay, it's the best.

Price was pretty good for our meal.

My group had the crispy chicken pad thai, Bun Pork, and Crab Rangoon - it was pretty good. The pad thai wasn't anything special, but the crab rangoon was good. The decor is simple and nice.

Not a bad place to stop by for a bit, but I'll try other places before I head back.

I thought their pho was pretty good. The restaurant is a little small but very clean and has a simple atmosphere.
I went here with a groupon and was glad I bought it. I would definitely go again as their pho was reasonably priced and came in a giant bowl. I also tried their Vietnamese dessert on the menu. I had no idea what it was but the server recommended it and I'm glad he did. I'm still not sure what was in it but it was tasty and (tasted) authentic.

first off - i'm vietnamese so my pho tastebuds are snobby.

but, it's a byob and they have some good traditional items (shrimp sugarcane, vietnamese crepe) on the menu...but i'd say it's more thai, chinese. service is hit or miss, but it's a clean, open restaurant.

make sure to use those coupons they have on their site! good for takeout/delivery too.

all in all it's decent if you don't have time to head up to argyle.

C and I snuck into Pho & I instead of going to Mista Pizza (across the street). As much as we like Mista Pizza, Pho & I left us certain to return.

Ambiance: For a low price place, four thumbs up!
Service: Excellent!
Food: Excellent! Carolyn had Bun with pork. It was fabulous. I had Basil rice with crispy chicken. Also excellent.
BYOB: Yes!
Overall value: Excellent:

Pho and I are officially dating now. Im vietnamese and for the whole 30 years of being one, I can say the food is Good! Nice design for the restaurant, clean bathroom, the condiments are clean unlike some other asian places where they are sticky to use. YOU HAVE to try the Vietnamese Crepe as an appetizer. If you do not, you're missing out. The fish sauce is, well, like any other fish sauce but use the dark red chili paste that is on the table to add some amazing flavor to the sauce. You'll thank me later...
As for the Pho, it is good. They made it more for american people since they don't add a lot of veggies. My girl had the rice plate with pork and I had to bribe her to try some because she was starving to death!! I can see myself coming there twice a week! Great service and my water was never half empty.

I don't have anything bad to say about this place, but I also don't have anything to say that makes it stand out.

The food was good, the prices were good. It's byob, which I enjoy. The service was fine. The portions, other than the soup, are small. That's where the inexpensive prices come from, I am guessing.

I wish I had something witty, interesting or exciting to say, but I don't. Maybe see you again, Pho? Maybe not?

Cheap Curry in a HURRY!

My friend and I needed some Thai food, fast! We were a bit skeptical because the place specializes in Pho. We ordered the Panang curry, Pad Thai, and some crab rangoon. All of them were super tasty. The Panang curry was my favorite. Everything came out in less than ten minutes and the place was packed. I highly recommend trying this restaurant if you are in need of some fast, cheap Thai food.

I think it is a normal Asian fusion restaurant. They provide Thai and Vietnamese food basically, but some of them are similar to Chinese dishes.
The taste..was just like other Asian fusion restaurant, nothing special. But they don't give you a big portion...so you might be still hungry if you have a big stomach.

This is my all time favorite Vietnamese restaurant in Lakeview. The food is well proportioned - can feed up to 1.5/serving or a very hungry individual. The atmosphere is very modern - music, canvas painting/printouts of their food, and a big tv that plays sports games, movies..etc. However, what had me coming back almost every week is there amazing Pho bo!!! Just sprinkle some Sriracha sauce and add the toppings and I'm off to heaven. Perfect for fall or sicks days. Pho is the new chicken noodle soup!!

I Love you and miss you Pho & I !

1 word to describe Pho & I = horrible.

Wish I would have checked Yelp before walking in here with my roommate. We were wandering around, looking for a place to eat and wanted to try some pho for the first time.

First off, the service is horrible. Waiting forever to have our orders take and then having to wait equally as long to receive our check does not equal good service. Our food did take forever, but we were hoping that's because it was made *fresh*

Secondly, the pho was horrible. My roomie ordered the Pho Bo which tasted like baby powder, in my opinion. No bueno. I ordered Mi Hoanh Thanh which was decent (hence the second star), except my dish was lacking some of the ingredients listed in the description on the menu. When I confronted the waitress about the mishap, she spoke such broken English, I couldn't understand her and just said forget it.

That experience alone is enough for me to say, never again and never to suggest this place to anyone, not even my worst enemy. A little dramatic, maybe, but true.

My fiancee and I have been to this place a few times and it never disappoints. I'm certainly no pho expert, but their pho ga (chicken) is always solid and keeps us coming back, especially on cold days when nothing beats a hot bowl of soup. I can understand why some reviewers trash the pho as watery and lacking meat. We've found it just depends on the day as sometimes we have more chicken than we need and other times we are left wanting.

We have tried a few of their other dishes (buns, curries, appetizers) and they are tasty as well without being overly greasy or oily. Ultimately, this BYO is a good little find with excellent service, a clean atmosphere, and some good food for the price (our last dinner bill was $15 and we were stuffed).

Love, Love, Love!! !!

My fiance and I have gotten several dishes from here and we have returned several times since moving to Lakeview.

Recommend: sweat & sour chicken, chicken satay, pad thai, cucumber salad, and any of their soups!

I don't blame Pho and I. I blame Yelp. That's right.

In particular, Yelp's mobile site for Palm. I was walking by Pho and I and decided to check Yelp before walking in. What did I see? An average of
five stars. The first three or four reviews were raves.

And so I stopped in, got some chicken pho. I expected chicken broth and flavor and little pieces of meat. Instead it tasted like noodles in a big bowl of hot water, with some boiled and drained white meat chicken thrown in haphazardly. My side of raw veggies included one sprig of basil and a little cup of broken, wet, brownish sprouts.

A heaping spoonful of sambal saved the day, but I should not have been so desperate. It's your fault, Yelp. Fix your mobile site.

Me and my fiance came here for lunch on a weekend. A deal/coupon featured by checking in on yelp for 25% off helped a lot in our decision to go here.
We decided to just get something like so we shared some won ton soup and the vietnamese crepe. Both of the food items were very tasty. The won ton soup was seasoned very well and the crepe was as good or better than we expected.
We ordered these two items and were expecting the waitress to come back soon so we could order an entree. But the return by her took much longer than we expected so we just stuck with our appetizer type food.
We checked in on yelp and showed the waitress the coupon on our phone and she said they had not initiated or received any contact with yelp so they couldn't accept the coupon. I found this pretty hard to believe considering yelp usually does their homework pretty well.

What is up? It's like if an Asian restaurant is in Lincoln Park or lakeview, they have to sign an agreement stating, "Our food will not be very good."

So the pho might be ok, my friend said it was good but where she lives, the pho is generally unfortunate so she might have been biased.

I got bun. Pho & I, bun is supposed to have little eggrolls in it! Even if it's not vegetarian! First of all, the noodles were mushy and over done. The beef was not too flavorful, and it was like beef FLAKES. Yes, it is often made with thin cuts of beef but not flakes?! I felt like a gold fish.
It was also rather flavorless. Usually bun is quite delightful!! I guess I will be making more trips to argyle.

Regarding the thai food: My friend got pad see ewe with chicken and, well, she should have ordered that as her dessert. It was so sweet! I mean, I liked it, but that's because I only had one bite. After a few, I wouldn't be able to take the sweetness. Diabetics beware!

Pho and I? More like Pho and...um...NOT I.

Went this weekend with a friend who had a Groupon.

Ordered the Vietnamese spring rolls as an app - okay, but the sauce was weird. Not awful, but not what I'd expect.

Another friend and I both ordered bun, and well, they sucked. I had to practically dump sriracha on mine to give it any sort of taste. Another girl's pad khee mao was so sweet it was practically inedible. The last person ordered pho, and she said it tasted good. One out of four decent dishes is NOT good odds.

I was all excited to perhaps have some decent Vietnamese without going up to Argyle. It would have been worth the red line ride to get Tien Giang or Tank.

Worst meal I've had in quite some time. The man buddy and I started out with Tom Kha soup that was sweeter and more syrupy tasting than what I'm used to. Not inedible but not what I get excited about when I think of Tom Kha. Likewise, the vegetable rolls were fine but not great.

The Pad Khee Mao, however, was totally inedible. The noodles were egregiously overcooked and there was an unidentifiable bad flavor permeating the whole dish. I ate maybe two forkfuls and that was that. The dude's meal was basically a Tyson chicken breast served atop a pile of flabby noodles with the same bad flavor as the Pad Khee Mao. Ew.

The best thing I can say about the experience is that I had a Groupon and didn't pay full price.

This place treated me like a bad hair day.

Literally.

Jokes are made that instead of being called "Pho and I" it should be called "Thai and I" get it? Cuz it's heavy on Thai with hardly any Pho. I'd say maybe "Thai & I" or "Thai & Why?" I'm a rhymenocerous too.

If you asked me before yesterday I'd have given it 3 stars. I've had most apps and a few entrees via delivery. Many are ok, a friend hated it all, but by and large satisfactory.

But yesterday we had three apps and two entrees delivered and there was a prepondrance of hair in the items. HAIR in most of the food!!

Get a dang hairnet if you shed over everything! And for that matter, if you can't cook any food without it looking like Thai with a regurgitated hair ball garnish, invest in some Rogaine! You'll thank me later and your customers won't be sketched out by the results of your labor!

if you have "pho" in your restaurant name you should at least perfect the art of pho before attempting hordes of other dishes. Having a menu that's 3 pages long is completely unnecessary. And the 3 phos they offer are very basic, half of what any place on Argyle offers.

My two dining companions went with the pho bo.. Thinking that this was some sort of authentic Vietnamese restaurant, I ordered my standby favorite: lemongrass chicken. What came was a gloppy dish that looked like bad delivery Chinese. There was nothing Vietnamese about it. Sadly, I didn't find a single hint of lemongrass either. The chicken was your average pan-Asian rubbery chicken. I can't get past the gloppy dark sauce, I've never seen any Vietnamese cuisine with dark, gloppy sauces. Complete failure.

I didn't even try the pho, I was told there was no reason to. You know your meal is not that great when nobody at your table even offers to share anything they've tried, it just wasn't worth the effort. I do know that the amount of herbs they bring to your table was skimpy--they brought less for 2 people than I've seen anywhere else bring for 1 person.

The saving grace, beyond being BYOB, is on their web site right now the ONLY thing they have up as a web page is a page of printable coupons... 30% off your entire check. This made my nasty non-lemongrass chicken entree free basically, so at least that was a bit of redemption.

I do believe in second chances. I also believe in the power of pho.

Sadly, this pho is neither life-changing nor mystical. Actually, the broth is very bland. And for $7, it would be nice if they went ahead and filled the container-- the portion is barely enough for one bowl.

I made sure to ask if a side of hoisin sauce was included in my bag. "Yes", I was assured. Condiment fail : no hoisin. Also, the amount of chicken was rather meager. Luckily, I had some rotisserie chicken left over from Whole Foods so I was able to supplement.

True, the space is shiny and pretty and the staff is eager to please. But let's work on that pho-- after all, if it's part of your name, it should be done well.

Pho Fail.

Do yourself a favor, and jump the #36 about a mile north to Argyle and you'll be in pho heaven. Shops and shops and shops devoted to bowls of steaming broth.

This, my friends...is a great intro place (menu is entirely in English, no tripe to be found, no other strange mystery meat), but leaves a bit to be desired. SO unfortunate, as I appreciate the mission and bringing pho to the masses of East Lakeview.

Chicken Pho: first of all, chicken will never be as good in pho as beef. This was my mistake, but I gave it a whirl. My bowl was lukewarm in about 10 minutes, and the chicken just doesn't give off the same soothing aroma as beef, nor does it mesh as well with the basil, etc. My advice: Opt for beef at all times (if you are a meat-eater, of course).

Plate of pho trimmings (basil, shoots, lime): A teensy little plate for 3 of us with pho. Uh, uh. I need my own plate of stuffs! This is the fun part, tossing in all the stuff, ripping up the basil, watching the shoots melt into the steam. C'mon!

Service: All well and good.

Bubble Tea: Milk variety, it was ok, but lacking flavor a bit. Light on the tapioca, but it did put Jelena's fire throat out after she swallowed a siracha seed, so it can't be too bad. :)

At $45 for a lunch of 4, it's not a bad price point. However, as I mentioned...if you step north to Argyle...you can get twice the quality at about a third of the price.

I just think...why would I go to Pho & I when the likes of Tank, Dong Ky, Pho 777, etc live just a bit further? I won't.

But, if you live in the 'hood, want to ease into pho life...well, I do recommend this place. Just don't get the chicken. Also, the other curried dishes, etc look quite good and the interior is certainly much sleeker/cuter than the more authentic places up north. BUt, that's generally the case when sacrificing some quality with ethnic foods, eh? Perhaps.

So, it was FREEZING yesterday and I hadn't found the time to eat more than a tangerine. Yes, it's true. Sometimes I get so tunnel-visioned in my work that I ignore the obvious pangs of hunger coming from my stomach and the delirium spinning 'round my brain. My nickname is 'Calista.' Anywhoo, hungry, cold...we're caught up. Through a series of fortunate Yelp events, I had pho on the brain. It was the perfect weather for it, but I didn't feel like going all the way to Uptown to satisfy my desires.

Fast-forward to the evening. I had picked up a friend and she and I needed food. I was headed to my neighborhood hot dog go-to when I noticed a bright neon sign. "PHO....(and i)." It was a sign (literally). She'd never had Vietnamese before. I told her not to worry about it, it was my treat (I must have been hungry) and we were about to eat well. One of the workers saw us milling about and she ran outside to give us a menu. "No need," I replied, "we're coming in." The worker told me that they'd just opened today and were trying to spread the word. I liked the space. It's bright, minimal, byo, has a plasma flat-screen and was playing that Lady Gaga song where she praises herself while sounding demonic ("Ya Ya yayayaaaa....Ga Ga ayayaya....join my cult-ayaya...wear bubbles ayayaa...). So, in short, i loved it.

I also loved the selection. pho & i offers a variety of Vietnamese and Thai fare. Since my friend had never had Vietnamese before, I was set to order some pho and call it a night. As soon as I was about the order, I noticed the bun. A bun is not a 'bun'; it's rice vermicelli, lettuce, bean sprout, scallion, peanut and protein. Yes, please. The pho would wait. I needed some bun. One order of grilled chicken and a mango bubble tea later, we were at the door and back at my place.

Now, I don't know whether it was because I was hungry, but I was really satisfied with the food. The chicken was well seasoned, the vegetables were fresh and crunchy and the noodles were well cooked. The only thing that was missing was chili sauce and that was my fault. I should have added some before I left -- although I would have figured that they would have included some in my to-go bag. I like you, pho & i. And, I really like my newfound ability to actualize my desires. Hmm, what else will I will into being? Mwa ha hahahayaa...
