Rainbow is my new go to for Thai food.. The food is very authentic so it's very tasty. Noodles dishes are wonderful and portion size is perfect. Â The Pad tai noodles are good and not dried. They will make it to your liking. The crab Rangoon are really good. My daughter and I can't get enough of them. One of my favorite dish is the ground chicken with basil which is the best I've ever tasted. Don't forget about the papaya salad, ask for Thai style if you like it spicy.
There's so many more I want to try I can't wait to go back!
Wow, I'm actually pretty surprised at the positive reviews of this place. I ordered dinner for 4 using Seamless last night, and we were all underwhelmed with the food.
This is Lincoln Square, home to some amazing Thai restaurants. I thought I'd give Rainbow Cuisine a try instead of the tried and true places. I love pad thai so I'm always looking for the perfect pad thai to rival the best I've ever had (a hole in the wall at U of I in Urbana, back in my grad school days). I was sorely disappointed. Probably the worst pad thai I've had in Chicago, and I've tried many places.
When we opened up the pad thai box, everyone asked, why is it so pale? It looked unappetizing. But I figured looks don't matter as much as taste-- I'll try and see. Well, it tasted as good as it looked. Didn't really taste like anything. Noodles were soggy too.
The other dish we ordered were the crazy wide rice noodles, which were supposed to be spicy. These were slightly less bland but definitely lacked the spicy kick that was promised on the menu.
Then we ordered a fried rice dish that we dubbed the KKK rice. If you read the menu, you'll know what I mean. Now this dish was strange because while the noodle dishes were bland, this one had three opposing flavors, all quite strong. The beef tasted good, but it was fighting with the shrimp paste. And there was so much fish sauce in the rice that it stunk up the entire house. Way too strong.
The good dishes-- Fried chicken (appetizer) and Soft Shell Curry (entree) were both flavorful but not overwhelming to the palette. If all the dishes were at this level, I could have given 3.5 or 4 stars.
Since it was delivery, I can't say whether the service was good or not. The delivery guy was nice.
Finally! A good Thai place around Lincoln square! We have tried opart, arroyo, rosded, yes Thai, and snow spice. None even come close to this little Thai place! Flavorful, hot, light, and fast, with friendly owners who throw in free egg rolls to boot! I have order three times since November, and they are now our go to place. Highly recommend!
Review Source:All i can say is that the food is AH-MAY-ZING!!!!!!!
The crab ragoons and and potstickers are a must try.
Ordered their panang curry and it was just the right blend of flavors!
I ordered for delivery and the owner was the one who delivered our food himself! He was very nice and friendly and invited us to visit the restaurant sometime... AND I DEFINITELY WILL!!!!
This place was good but they have a really crappy ordering service on their website. Â They asked me to use this instead of Grubhub but sorry, GrubHub works much better. Â It took over an hour on the delivery due to issues on their website where as when I ordered from GH it was about 25 min. Â The food quality is good though which is what my rating is on, really its 3.5 stars but I am feeling nice today.
Review Source:Great food homecooking & The owner is so friendly that you would want to go back too. Crab ragoons/fried chickens/sticky rice & mango were really good.
We dined in on a Wednesday night even though it is more of an "order-to-go" type of place, but we enjoyed our experience, and you can feel customers are happy when ordering their food. Thai restaurants in Chicago are either a hit or a miss, this one is definitely here to stay. Will be back to get my crab ragoons whenever passing by Western Ave!
We just opened a restaurant in the neighborhood, and we ordered lunch from here several times before our own kitchen was in full swing. So, I knew the food was delicious, and that their delivery service is prompt and friendly. Today, I was craving Tom Kha soup,, and stopped in for my first sit down experience. I learned that the owners are a husband and wife duo, passionate about Thai cuisine. The Tom Kha was piping hot and so delicious! I asked about the ingredients, which include kaffir leaves, coconut, cilantro, straw mushrooms, lemon grass, and more. I was shown a small cluster of kaffir trees growing behind me. House grown ingrediens will always get a star from me! Another star for service and stories, and three more for my happy belly!! :) If you are in Lincoln Square, be sure to stop in here. They have been open just three months; let's give them a warm welcome.
Ps- among our story topics was bicycling. I mentioned that my chain was skipping and after dinner, the owner came out and wd-40'd my chain. How sweet is that?!
I've been coming to Rainbow Cuisine for a new promotion''s. now and it is definitely my go to Thai place. Food comes in generous portions and always tastes great. I always order the Basil Chicken. Definitely the best I've had in Chicago. Even though this place isn't really a dine-in type of restaurant, the owner is extremely nice and welcoming. Overall, this place is an all-around good place to get Thai food, with great price Â
