Sushi Para is that place to go when you feel ravenous. The quality is mediocre at best, but it is endless. Also, every roll began to break apart at first touch. Service was meh, but kind of expected. Sushi Para D also does not carry wine buckets (or maybe our server didn't want to go to get it) so don't expect to keep those wines chilled! Sushi Para serves it's purpose- cheap, unlimited sushi, and byob! I wouldn't recommend it for the sushi snobs out there, but for the craving loads of sushi types.
Review Source:I went here with a big group for a friend's birthday. There were 11 of us and my friend made a reservation for us for 7pm on a Friday night. We were seated at a smaller table because a couple people were running late. They showed up 10 min late, and the staff was not happy about moving is to the table that was set up for us in the first place. We had to ask 3 or 4 times before they refilled or water pitcher in the middle of fdinner, and they still only brought us one that was mostly ice. We finally got out of the at 9:30pm after waiting 15 minutes for our check. We left at the same time as a similar sized group who arrived 30 minutes after us. The food was decent though, and the portions were large.
Review Source:If I could give negative or no stars I would. Â DO NOT go here.
We've frequented sushi para II many times and thought this would be at the same level of quality. Â WRONG.
I've actually been here a few times and it has gotten progressively worse. The first time the rolls weren't HORRIBLE and they had a lot of appetizer options for friends who don't really like sushi, plus byob we decided to keep it as a reserve.
The last time we came in our rolls were NASTY. So gross we knew we couldn't finish them. Â We only ordered 4 rolls and two appetizers. Â I don't remember which rolls we got, but the only one digestible was the spicy tuna. Â The rolls that had salmon tasted like they had canned salmon. SO gross. Â We complained to our waitress that that particular roll was nasty and we didn't want to eat it OR pay for it. Â In the time we were taking to explain how gross the roll was, all of the other rolls became room temperature and started tasting gross as well. Â At that point they even started smelling weird. Â I couldn't eat there any more and wanted to only pay for our two appetizers and the spicy tuna roll. Â They wouldn't let us.
I had to explain to the waitress, the hostess, THEN the manager. Â At that point I was pissed. Â It's not like we were trying to rip them off, we continually told the waitress how gross the rolls were as we were eating them. Â The fish was NOT fresh. Â The manager kept trying to lie and say they got fresh fish in every day. Â YEAH RIGHT! Lies. Â We live in the area and see how empty it is every night. Â There's no way they have enough business to even have fresh fish every night.
My husband was fed up and just wanted to pay and leave so we ended up having to pay for the whole amount plus tip. Â I was so mad, so is he. Â Never going there again.
Came here on a Saturday night at around 7:00pm and it surprisingly not that busy. Â We had reservation for about 9 and they were good about seating us right away. Â The sushi tasted okay. Â Nothing special or different from the other sushi para a little further south on Clark and Fullerton. Â It really doesn't matter how much you order because I fell they don't bring everything you order anyway. Be careful if you order something with cream cheese in it because half of the roll will be filled with that thing.
Review Source:In the mood to eat sushi until you can eat sushi no more!? Sushi Para D will sate you, you glutton you.
For 18.99 Â a person, the all-you-can eat sushi is a hell of deal. The roll quality doesn't wow, but what do you expect for 20 bucks? Good value, just make sure you can eat everything you order. They charge for anything you don't eat, to the point where if you don't eat one piece of your roll they'll charge. Been there a few times, and sometimes in "eye bigger than stomach" situations, this can make for an uncomfortable experience on your body. Make sure you don't over order.
Volcano Roll, Chicago Roll, World Series roll are the standouts. The gyoza is also very good, I recommend forgoing a roll to try it. Sushi Para D is best enjoyed when very hungry, and with people that won't judge you for stuffing yourself.
ahh the service was the worst! we had to wait 30 min before someone took our order, get up and get our own plates from the sushi bar because we weren't given any, they forgot to put in our order and only realized when the waitress came over and asked us if we wanted anything else.. and then saw that we didn't have any food. and then she did it again! Â seriously this was the worst service i've experienced in a really long time. the service at sushi para II is much better, so if you're in an all you can eat sushi mood just go there!
Review Source:I chose 1 star for a couple reasons. 1- The service was mediocre at best. Our waitress didn't smile once and always seemed to be upset and in a rush. 2- Call me crazy, but I'm into clean sushi. My girlfriend and I went here and she's vegan but sushi places are overall known for being clean. Not this place. She got a bunch of veggie rolls, almost all of which had to tobiko littered on the bottom. You would think it was busy, but let me assure you, it wasn't. The cleanliness alone is good enough reason to give one star, in my opinion. The only good things were the iced green tea and a large fresh salad my girlfriend got before the sushi. The sushi wasn't good enough, or clean enough, for us to go back. My advice would be to try one of the other few sushi places around here before even considering trying Sushi Para.
Review Source:Worst. They gave our tables away right  before our reservation time forcing my friend  to frantically search for another BYOB place that could accommodate 15 people at 8 pm on a Friday. On her birthday.
I've been to the Clark St. location but Sushi Paras never have very good food anyway. Skip this place and go to Toro Sushi-- it's worth the wait.
Horrible service, no accountability with reservations, extremely rude and disrespectful when they messed up.
Four days before my birthday I made reservations for 18 people. Â They said no problem. Â The night of the reservation we were a block or so away from the restaurant and I called them to confirm we would be there soon. Â The person who answered the phone laughed and said, "Haha! Â We thought this other group of 16 people was you so we sat them at your table!" Â I asked her if she thought she could seat us in the next half hour anyway and she just laughed again and said no. Â Some of my friends got there before me and were lead to the other table, they had to awkwardly walk out. Â To one friend the hostess even laughed and said "call your friend!" when she was confused at what had happened. Â
I'm really glad she got a kick out of ruining reservations for a birthday and making me scramble to find a back up plan for so many people. Never going again out of principle. Not even THAT good.
The service was awful! The sushi was GROSS, way too much DRY rice and fake meat. The avocado was brown and the sushi served within one minute, obviously, it was ready to eat. Don't be fooled by the 18.99 all you can eat menu, it is clearly stated that you MUST eat all of the food ordered OR you will be charged for the entire roll, even if it's only one piece remaining. You have to eat everything, even the DRY DRY rice. Don't waste your time or taste buds... Try Coast! It's worth the drive and wait...
OH Yeah, IF you are stubborn enough to come here, order from the regular menu, the waiter mentioned that the all you can eat menu is made differently MORE DRY RICE!!!!
I love sushi and that's no lie, so when I checked out Sushi Para D with my Bff I was ready to chow down!
Sushi Para has some tasty rolls, however the service wasn't that great on the day we went. Â It could have been because were aren't regulars but initially it felt like we weren't very welcome. Â No greeting, no directions on where to sit and then after we did choose a seat we were asked to move to another location in the restaurant. Â
Now that I've gotten my B & M out of the way let's talk about the food. Â We decided to order from the All you can Eat menu and I'm glad we did. There was was a good smattering of maki, nigiri, and hot dishes. Â My favorite roll was the Sapparo roll, I would go back again and again for that one!! The nigiri pieces I had were tasty as well. Â The only thing I wasn't a fan of was the Miso soup, I had no seaweed in it and I love seaweed in my Miso. Â
So if you are thinking of checking out one f the Sushi Para locations, DO IT!!
Early dinner for 2 including soda was about 48 dollars including tip.
Sushi so-so, service awful. Â Waiter spilled water on friend's cellphone and refused to give us a name or number of the manager. Â One out of five of us ordered all you can eat sushi, the rest of us ordered 2-3 rolls each and the one time the lady who ordered the all you can eat swapped one piece of her roll with someone else, the waiter descended upon and scolded us. Â For god's sake, 9 rolls were ordered in addition to her with her all you can eat, it's not like we were trying to scam them! Â Never again.
Review Source:I liked this place.
Went here with a group of people, and a few of us decided to do the all you can eat ($18.99 on weekdays)
Service was a bit slow (probably due to the fact that we were doing the all you can eat, they want us to get full a bit faster!) but the waitress was friendly and everything came out beautiful and yummy.
Tried a vast array of different rolls. I really liked the spicy salmon, and the spider roll. All of the rolls I had were yummy.
Don't let the bar fool you, they sell no alcohol. BUT, they are BYOB.
ONE WORD: SCARY..
Okay... So I went there starving around 6:00 and all I had to eat that day was french fries.... and i was totally excited about the ALL YOU CAN EAT SUSHI FOR 20 BUCKS!
So naturally i checked everything.........
Big mistake.
20 mins in... the waitress came over to me and said " YOOOOU HAVE TO EAT EVERYTHING OR YOU WILL GET CHARGED. EVEN THE RICE."
Me: WTF
My hands were shaking and I was loosing my eye sight and i was thinking about was that move Malitda when that fat kid was forced to eat the chocolate cake.
I had to actually take trips to the bathroom and spit my sushi rolls out of my mouth into the toilet.. twice. but i think the waitstaff was catching on to me.
So then i started hiding sushi rolls around the restaurant including the soy sauce pot...
INSANE. NOT FRESH. STILL VERY SICK. DONT GO.
PS... I ordered a diet coke to help digest and the waitress shot me this look like I fingered banged her cat.
I am sorry for being crass but omg... i feel so sick.
Sushi Para D, it was okay. It reminded of the Sushi para too menu. Where you go for their buffet menu for $18.99. Everything is pretty much the same as para too, expect with this place they tag on extra $3.00 if you want shrimp tempura with buffe tsushi. Which I was pretty bummed about. I ate mostly their salmon and yellowtail rolls which were good. I ate enough to be full, and it was a decent experience.
After going there with my husband and a few friends we realize we still liked Shiro Hana's menu and their early bird special.
It's certainly not the best place for sushi. It's an okay deal for all you can eat when you're hungry for it. The waitresses were nice and helpful at the beginning of our dinner but after awhile they really neglected our table. They are nicer than the waitresses at Sushi Para II. After more people came into the restaurant, our sushi orders came out slower. If you plan to eat here, try to go during the slower time. The upside is that it's a clean location.
As for the sushi, I've certainly had better. I didn't expect much from the sushi here but it was filling. Again, it's a good deal if you're really hungry and just want to eat sushi. Their rice portions a bit too much for me but they may be okay for others.
My boyfriend had mentioned Sushi Para a few times and it had been on my list of sushi places to try. Â Honestly, I don't know why I keep looking for new sushi joints when the ones that I visit frequently do it right. Â But alas, after spending some time in the city for a marathon clinic, I decided that I wanted something healthy.
We were originally going for soup since I had a Groupon, but my stomach got the best of me and we saw Sushi Para D right away so we decided to eat there instead.
First of all, starting the meal off with bad service puts a damper on the meal. Â Our waitress definitely was not friendly and seemed very curt and almost like she was rushing us to make our selections. Â Maybe I'm just being hypersensitive, but it seemed like she slammed our drinks down on the table instead of gently placing them there.
Overheard:
Waitress: "Do you need change?"
Patron: "Yes."
Waitress: "Do you need change??"
Patron: "Yes!"
The patron, displeased with the service, left change as her tip.
On to the food: Â avoid the rolls at all cost. Â They put way too much rice s you get full quickly. Â I got the volcano roll and the spicy tuna and they tasted the same. Â Stick with the sashimi. Â The tuna, salmon and mackerel that I had tasted pretty good. Â I found the white fish to be a bit too chewy for my liking.
Total for dinner was a little over $40. Â It's BYOB and we didn't bring anything so that cut the cost down. Â The boyfriend left a $5 tip, which I thought the waitress deserved since she was not friendly at all the food was sub par compared to what we have had in the past.
Our quest for a good sushi joint in the city continues! Â Suggestions welcome!
The other sushi para on clark is much better this one seems to be run by imbeciles. I ordered 8 pieces of salmon and one egg omelet sushi. Ive been waiting 20 minutes the restaurant isnt busy and they lost my order.. Â The restauarnt on clark never on clark never screwed up like this yes i have had to wait a little for food there but never more then five minutes even when they are packed. This is pathetic go to the clark street sushi para this one on diversey is hopeless
And getting the check was a farce as well
Ugh why is it impossible to get good sushi and good service at the same time in this city
I would have to say that my initial review for Sushi Para and it's affiliates was a bit premature. Maybe the whole AYCE grandiose had me on a high, but after living in the city longer and eating exceptional sushi and even better AYCE restaurants, I would have to lower my rating pretty significantly.
Also, my friend and I were hungry one day around lunch time and we went to the Sushi Para on Clark. We ordered a ton of sushi and quickly realized that all their rolls tasted the same. They were all stuffed with spicy tuna or crab. There was really not a lot of selection. We couldn't eat any more spicy tuna so ended up wrapping a few rolls in our napkin and tossing them in the garbage on the way out. We have since found better AYCE places that I would go to instead.
For $25 (tax and tip inluded), you can get all you can eat sushi with decent quality fish. Â Service is solid, food is great, and it makes sushi affordable!
I'm a huge fan of the spider rolls and spicy tuna here and usually go through 6-10 rolls in a sushi eating binge. Â I actually have to limit myself to once a month at this restaurant due to extreme American overeating. Â Too delicious though!
Definitely order as much as you think you will eat on the first wave. Â The sushi does take a few minutes (10-15) to prepare and if you go back for a second round, you're usually pretty full after that.
Technically it's BYOB...but that's just wasting space in your stomach!
BYOB all you can eat sushi! A good combination to start off the night.
Buffet and non-buffet sushi restaurants should not be held to the same standards. It's a buffet for a reason. As with any sushi buffet, I originally expected we would get sushi rolls stuffed with rice and doused in the sushi mayo sauce, but the sushi here was more legit. Surprisingly, this place serves good, but not great sushi. Â I recommend ordering the spider roll! It's the most bang for the buck and the flash fried soft shell crab is delicious.
No need to make reservations. We came on a Saturday night and the place was half empty. Our servers were very attentive and pleasant.
I would also recommend checking out House of Sushi f you're in the neighborhood for buffets.
It's not the highest grade sushi, but still freakin awesome!
If you like Sushi Para II, then you'll DEFINITELY LIKE this place. The menu is identical to Para II's. The difference is that the ambiance and decor is better at D. Also, because it's less crowded, it feels less invasive. Sushi Para II can feel a bit too crowded.
I think because there were less people at D, the food, especially the appetizers, were more fresh. The gyoza, the tatsu age, and the edamame were much better quality than Sushi Para II.
My buddy and I went here for lunch. Lunch is $15.98. But there were less options on the lunch menu, so we asked for the dinner menu - $18.98.
Not good. Actually bad, very bad. Went here with a friend for dinner, we were both hungry, and ordered 3 rolls to share. There were 1 1/2 rolls left on our plate when we told the waitress we were done. Â
Despite ordering 3 very different rolls (at least from their description), the fish in all 3 rolls was so finely minced and blended with sauces (and who knows what else) that it had the texture of fishy rice pudding. Doesn't sound appetizing? It wasn't.
The worst sushi I've had in quite awhile. Best part of the meal was that, much to my surprise, I didn't get sick from it.
The $18 all-you-can-eat deal here is a good bargain. Their all-you-can-eat menu includes seafood salad, regular sushi (raw fish atop rice) and many specialty rolls. I definitely get my fill of raw fish every time I come here.
The best part is that the fish is served at room temperature, so it must be fresh. Cold sushi is usually a bad sign, so the temperature of this place's fish impressed me.
I would have given Sushi Para 4 stars a couple of months ago, but they recently removed many of the roe options from their all-you-can-eat menu. That was the best part! Now you have to pay $1.50 extra for a roll of roe. Boo on that.
1. i do not eat meat. (yes, even little fishies have meat on their bones)
2. i'm a single cat lady...i get my sushi togo
that being said, this place is the bomb, at least for us veggie eatin cat ladies. get the vegetable roll fo sho...huge with fresh and delicious avocado, carrot, and cucumber...for $3.50. i like it.
the waitresses were nice to me and the sushi making dudes are cool and they give me lots of ginger. but BEWARE...the only thing you're gonna get from the lady behind the register is the stink eye. Â
my only gripe is that they don't have sweet potato maki...my fave. bummer.
I was here a few weeks back with my family (incidentally visiting me from overseas) and this definitely turned out to be a BAD idea! The food was strictly ok. The " You will be charged for what you cannot finish" rule just reminded me of my childhood days dinner table routine where mom would yell " finish your food or go to bed hungry!!" Â I thought the beauty of becoming an adult was that you actually have choices and decide when you are done!! Anyhow I digress....
The service at this place was just TERRIBLE. Â We were greeted (or rather not greeted) by this chick who absolutely refused to smile or acknowledge our presence and in fact made it seem like we had totally ruined her evening by bringing in a crowd of 7 hungry people!!! She made us wait till our table became available (which is totally fine!), but then we we enquired about how much longer it would take, I was pretty much told to simply "wait my turn and it'll be ready when it's ready..."...snarky response! Â That was my cue to walk out if it wasnt for a late Sunday evening, places closing early and my family's eager sushi loving eyes staring at me!
Our assigned waitress was clearly a cronie of the earlier mentioned  hostess...refused to smile and gave us "dirty exasperated looks" for asking questions on the menu!!! By this time, I was losing all interest in the sushi and was rather plotting my revenge by writing this review!!!
Hope others have a better experience but I was very turned off by this place and will not be going back. If the service does not bother you much, their sushi was fairly decent and a BYOB is always a great deal.
Thankfully there is always sushi para 2 and 2.5 and 3 which I am sure are just around the corner waiting for me to explore!!!
I triple dog dare you to find a better deal than the $20 all you can eat sushi at Sushi Para. Not only do they provide a large variety of sushiness, but the food is actaully really good.
My go to order includes the American Dream, eel, and spicy tuna. Another great thing about this place is that it's byob...so get ur wine and sake on!
Overall a great spot that I definitely give a boom. Maybe 2 booms.
So underwhelming.
Friend & I stopped by for lunch since we had a craving for sushi. She ordered a spicy tuna roll, while I had the "Under Control" roll. Both looked sloppily put together, like the time my mom taught me to roll sushi at home. However, the fish was quite fresh and my roll was topped with some pretty generously sized pieces of shrimp tempura.
It didn't quite satisfy my craving so I'm not sure if I'll be back anytime soon.
Tried going here with a bunch of friends this afternoon. I thought I'd give it a second try since it's literally down the street from my apartment. I tried calling beforehand to ask if they had their lunch specials or all you can eat lunch special today but no one answered. I figured it's really not that far so I mind as well walk down the street on this nice day.
We got there and this girl saw us but ignored us. It wasn't until I walked up to her at the register did I say there was 3 of us. She told us we could seat ourselves so we sat by the window. We waited and waited and never got menus until a couple minutes later and she basically threw them at us. Did I mention the place was empty? We were the only ones there. We decided we didn't want to sit here for 10 hours to get food so we got up and left and went to the Sushi Para at Clark and Belden which I HIGHLY recommend. I'm in love with that place and have been there numerous times. It's too bad this one is so horrible. I'd say it's totally worth it to walk 10 minutes to go to Sushi Para II.
soooo confused by another name change... X, D, jeez. Pick a letter already.
Sushi was not the best I've ever had and definitely not the worst. What does it even mean when people say that? it means that I won't be going to the bank to get a loan and try to open a franchise but I might go back if in the area with only about $20 to spend on lunch. Another nice thing is BYOB, no corkage fee.
They don't have straws here which I found pretty odd. Myself and a couple of other diners asked for straws for the water and they said "oh, we don't have straws". Do they ever have them? If so, getting  backup straws seems relatively easy with a walgreens/cvs on every corner, but I digress.
Overall an ok dining experience. Clean place, pretty quick, though dull  service.
Note: All you can eat is a little over $18 on Saturday at lunch time.
Not a fan. Â Mediocre quality, at best. Â Slooooooow service, which will throw a wrench in your all-you-can-eat plans. Â Staff was friendly, but needed to be told things repeatedly.
Decor is nice.
They don't have much that is vegetarian for sushi, less than most places. Â When AYCE is $19, and the most expensive veg maki is sweet potato tempura at $4, that's atleast five rolls before it's economical for veg*ns. Â Though veg tempura is $5, but still, it's small and just ok. Â And while they give you plenty of time to work up an appetite while-you-wait, you might want to arrive hungry anyways to account for quality. Â
Others at my table liked this place, and I really tried to, but it just didn't work out.
Here's what you need to know:
No corkage fee, BYOB
Great for 6+
All you can eat for $18.99
Pretty good sushi
You aren't going to be utterly blown away by the quality of food, but they give you a lot for your money and you'll definitely be at least pleasantly surprised.
Be careful when you go the all you can eat route: make sure your eyes aren't bigger than your stomach or they'll charge you for what's left over.
The nice thing is they let you keep ordering, so you don't have to committ all at once ot how much you think you'll eat throughout the night. You can turn in your slip with 3 rolls, finish them, add 2 more, and so on.
I came here for my birthday in a party of 6 and thought it worked out great - espeically with no corkage fee. Would definitely go back.
$18.99 AYCE
Overview: All you can eat really MEANS all you can eat, and you better eat it all or they charge you...even for the rice underneath sashimi(yea, not joke).
Service was actually really good, but it was such a turnoff to hear that a quarter sized piece of rice would be charged back to you if you didn't finish it.
Fish was fresh, and I had some pretty good(and hella filling rolls).
Their regular menu is pretty big, I'd suggest a combo next time.
Atleast they didn't make us eat all the ginger and wasabi!!
I had high hopes...but, no. The space is inviting, attractive and much bigger than what it looks like from the outside. The service is attentive and competent. The music is hilariously bad -- which makes it awesome. Imagine the worst cast-off from a Disney movie and then imagine Miley Cyrus singing it. And then make it worse. I might need to get the playlist.
The food is not that good. For $15.99 you get all you can eat but you will be charged for what you order and can't finish. From the quality of the food, this seems like a set up. I ordered two maki rolls: eel and shrimp tempura. The eel (my favorite) tasted a little off. It wasn't bad, per se, but it didn't taste right. I came to realize that I was correct that something was amiss a few hours later but this is a family program and I'll leave it at that. The shrimp tempura was mushy. Yes. That's right. A tempura roll lacked crunch and mushed in my mouth. Yeesh. The people were so nice, I hate to end on a sour note. Aha! The green tea was refreshing, hot and served in a very cool mug.
What is the old adage? Waste not want not? Well, I get the importance of not wasting. The problem is, I want not. And I don't think you will either.
Lunch special: $15.99 for all-you-can eat, which includes miso soup.
Warning: you will be charged for whatever you don't eat!
Warning: the sushi is pretty mediocre.
Warning: you get what you pay for!
A pretty nicely appointed spot in this crammed-to-the-gills 'hood. Roomy tables. Well decorated. Terrible teen pop music. Standard service.
Rolls are OK, but not great. If you are really hungry and not super particular about your sushi, check it out. IF you are, skip it.
