SHANDY!  Order that delicious Shandy...Shandies are way too hard to find in the city, so if you are going to Twins, you might as well get a beer that tastes like lemonade.  Other than that, the food is mediocre.  It's bar food in Hell's Kitchen.  Also, the waitress acts like she would rather be anyplace then at the bar she's working at.  Honestly, you hate your job so much, leave, let someone else do it.  I always go in there with a big group, and this waitress acts like it's a burden that we are there.  Come on Hell's Kitchen....get us a cooler bar.

you can't fail at twins. I love Tom and Dan (the bartenders) I have brought countless randoms here and it's a usual after work. Great $3 bass good martinis.

I often come alone well because I want a drink and the pour is good here plus it's in between work and the train which makes it an easy stumble back.

you can find me at the other end of the bar with a Jameson on the rocks. Good drinking

I love Twins. $3 beers 24/7, and a great atmosphere to drink them in. Me and my coworkers usually go a couple times a week after work and can get pretty tuned up for less than $20/per, which is fantastic. All these people kvetching about Twins being seedy and gross need to get their priorities in line - it's a goddamn Irish pub not a mixology studio where they shot the Ketel One commercial with guys with high cheekbones and beards in suits saying "gentlemen, this is nightlife" or whatever the fuck.

The servers are nice, the bartenders give you shit but expect you to give it back to them, and it's a fantastic value. 'Nuff said.

I only give it five stars because it was my first bar in NYC when i moved here and I have been going ever since.

The bar is busy sometimes but during the week a little more calm. Great bar to eat and watch the game, great sandwiches.

    Bartenders are all great there

This bar is not exciting, but it gets the job done.  The bartender was extremely nice, the drinks are reasonably priced, and there was tons of available seating.  I wouldn't really describe it as a dive, it's a little nicer than that.

it's a dive. it's fun. we go here after work. No complaints really. It's not fancy and the food is average.

I loved this place. I had a project in New York for several months, and came here almost every night. Sometimes  I had a few cheap beers and used the free wifi, sometimes with a group of coworkers and we spent hundreds. Either way, I was always treated the same way: courteously, quickly, and without regards to how much they thought they could milk from me that night. Even when I was seated at the bar during a Rangers game doing work at 9:30 and not spending much...I do feel a little guilty for that.

In the past few months, Guiness has been 5.00, always some non-PBR/Busch Lite pint at 3.00 (Bass, Bud Light, Amstel), and good food at a good price too.

However, what trumps it all? The people are polite, courteous, and the service impeccable. Wish I had one near my house at home.

I used to work all the way on the west side, so options for bars and any sort of food was sparse. So when we were looking for a place for drinks around the office, Twins was the usual place we'd end up.

And who can complain- the happy hour was good, the bartenders were nice, and there were always seats open at the bar for a pint.

I was mtg up with friends from out-of-town who had decided in advance to participate in St. Patty's pub crawl. Unfortunately, it being a) a drinking holiday, b) a wknd, and c) unseasonably warm for March, so did everyone else, which meant that most every bar we passed was packed to the brim. Surprisingly Twins wasn't, so an executive decision was made.

+1 for $3 pints of Bass
-1 for the random music mix piped from one of the waitress's iPod playlist, ranging from Billy Joel to Eminem to early 90s grunge. St Patty's does not, apparently, encourage a festive mood at Twins
+1 for clean restrooms and virtually no lines
-1 for a hurried waitress who still had not managed to bring a food menu to our table an hr after we placed our drinks order
    -1 for small portioned appetizers

On the plus side they have sufficient seating for large groups in their upstairs dining room so as another Yelper mentioned, this is a "functional" bar if you're congregating around Penn Station.

Stumbled upon this place on an early Saturday night just looking for a somewhat uncrowded place to have a couple beers before the Big East Tournament Final.

It's not the greatest bar, but they had TVs tuned into college basketball games and they had $3 pints of Bass. Listen, Bass isn't my favorite beer, but it is when it's $3. I wished they had a couple dart boards or something to kill some time, but they don't. However, the super cheap beer more than makes up for any other shortcomings.

There wasn't any food service that night, but I get the impression that they do on occasion. However, they seemed more than willing to order pizzas for delivery if you wanted.

You could do worse as far as pubs go.

Twins Pub is a great bar and restaurant.   I was sincerely surprised that Twins only had an average rating of 3 stars on Yelp.  I work 2 blocks from the place and have been there many times for lunch, dinner, drinks and after work functions.  I have always received great service and very good bar food.  The waitress/hostess in the dinning room is one of the friendliest, most attentive and courteous wait personnel that  I have ever encountered.  Twins is a truly great find in Midtown West/Hells Kitchen.

the odd thing about this bar is that the only time I've checked in has been for my company holiday parties.  The food is average at best, but that could also be the result of us getting what we paid for.  The staff is attentive and took care of us when we were there so no complaints.  I've always had a good time.

We stopped in one night for a quick dinner. Food was fairly quick, basic and good. The place was clean and the bartender was in good spirits. There were only 10 or so patrons when we were there. I wouldnt  go out of my way to go back, however if your in the area stop in.

Been here a few times, don't hate the place... but the last time I was here, after an hour or two they were giving us the check and basically chasing us out. No one I was with was being a problem customer or anything like that.

A friend that was going to meet us showed up an hour later and the entire place was empty, yet still open.

This was 8pm on a Friday night.

I really, really do not understand their business model.

I went there last night (a Thursday) for a few drinks and some dinner before going to the nearbye movie theater. The old bartender guy very much did NOT want to serve us. He kept specifically not making eye contact. This was not the worst as he smiled we he did finally come to us. It took about 10-15 minutes to get a menu for my friend and I. I asked for a grilled shrimp over mixed baby greens ($10) and he kept saying something about an X.O. which I was confused about. My friend told me the Margarita's were $6 each (served in a martini sized glass). So we ordered a few margaritas and got the bill and what do I see? Well my X.O. was $13 and the margaritas were $8 each. Also, he asked my friend what kind of beer she had had and before she could answer he just wrote down Sam Adams (she only drinks Bud Light- I know this for a fact). The bartender said that the specials were on the sign outside but when I said I was going outside to take a look he just said "Don't worry about it" and took the extra $3 off my salad. This move kind of sketched me out. In fact, the whole bill sketched me out and I was too afraid to use my credit card so I went outside looking for an ATM. I gave 15% tip (below my average tip). It's too sketchy and rude to enjoy myself here. I prefer a place with the prices posted and where the bartenders are attentive.

A-OK describes this place perfectly.  Absolutely nothing special but their $3 Harp's (no it's not a full pint) do the trick.  The bartender was friendly, there were seats at the bar, the AC was cranking...Not a bad Friday evening in no-mans-land on the west side.

I wandered into Twins on a warm Friday night with a friend after trying to find a place near Penn Station to grab a drink before I got on a train to NJ.  Since Pearl Jam (or some other 90s band) was playing at MSG that night, the area was even MORE crowded than usual.  So we passed a few other bars and somehow found our way to Twins.

It wasn't great, it wasn't terrible.
    The bathrooms were clean.
    The crowd was random.
The happy hour lasted quite awhile (huge plus).
    The location is terrible.
The layout is tight, especially when its even a little crowded.

I wouldn't go back voluntarily, but I was able to have a $6 glass of wine and talk to my friend for an hour and a half, so all in all, it was a functional bar and nothing outstanding.

We tend to come to this place once a year when myself and some co-workers come out for a tv show we do in the area.  This is a typical pub with dinner seating in the back.

There is one waitress there (has been there every year we come) that is so inattentive and rude it's almost funny.  One time we asked for a refill on our tea she actually rolled her eyes.

Another day we came back (decided to give it one last chance), we waited for like 15 minutes for the check so I got up to go find her.  I walk up to the bar, don't see her, head back and find that she's sitting in the booth right in front of us reading the news paper.  Unbelievable.

It's a shame because the food is not half bad for a pub.  We never had drinks there so can't speak to the bar experience but would not recommend this place for food due to the extremely poor wait service.

Go here for the drinks and the friendly service. Waitress was A+ on the attentive and menu hints. Food is BASIC and I mean BASIC old time diner/cafeteria "food". Instant mashed in an Irish bar? Yikes! If you stumble in here from a big day at B&H Photo, which is across the street, stick with the burgers. The downstairs room is small and just a little too cozy- 6 tables? It is what it is-a bar across the street from Penn Station with a menu but no real food! Not the worst but plenty of other choices right near there..........

Great place, staff is friendly prices are reasonable and doesn't get too crowded, even when there is an event at MSG.  If you want to have a party you can rent out the upstairs with open bar and food for good price, have done it quite a few times.

Twins is a block away from work.  It's a dive bar with basic bar food. I go here often with my coworkers for going away lunches, birthdays or just to grab a drink or two.  The draft selection in Twins is nothing special.  Just the typical domestic and their lights, Guiness, Harps, etc. The food here is pretty decent. The burgers are nicely sized, moist and tasty.  The dishes such as ala vodka pasta, curried chicken and shrimp are passable. Not too bad, not too great.  The waitress who always serves our large parties here is pretty amazing. Since we sometimes come with 30 people, we get the upstairs reserved. The kitchen is downstairs so she brings all of our dishes up the stairs all by herself,  usually its like 5-6 plates at once!

I went here on thursday night with drew and colin for some much needed post work drinks. i picked this place because of the $3 pints of harp (although i'm pretty sure their pints were 12oz), in any event, their food ended up being really good too, except that as another reviewer noted, no matter how you ask for your burger, its going to come out medium or medium/well. the prices are good though, you can't go wrong with a burger with bacon, mushrooms and onions, fries, a pickle and cole slaw for $9. only got 3 stars, because the place is kinda tiny and its in the middle of nowhere (i.e. midtown west?)

This pub is close to work, so one star for that alone. It's a typical pub, not too special, but they have a very limited draft beer selection. I prefer wheat beer and they didn't have anything to offer me on draft. Overall it's an OK bar, but nothing special.

Makes a good hang out place after work. Not too crowded, entire store front is open (so makes the area feel more spacious). Brightly lit and breezy. Basically these are the great features of the place. More so than their menu. Drinks & bar food were fine - nothing too exciting.

Not a bad place - Tommy the bartender makes it (Barry could destroy it, though).  The Guinness is good and it serves its purpose. Been here a few times (never at night) with friends that have been going here for years (everyone at JAF has been here, and if you don't know what that is, it's the Post Office).  Nothing spectacular about the decor - it's just a hole-in-the-wall bar, not a philosophy. I ate here and the food didn't make me sick so that's a plus.  Spent many an afternoon in here while Tommy waited on us, but as soon as Barry comes on, that means it's time to go.  My friends warned me, saying that Barry ignores them and acts like he's never seen them before in his life, and I've witnessed this several times; that's why as soon as six o'clock rolls around, it means "time for the Molly Wee."

3.5 stars...This place isn't as bad as the others on Yelp might lead you to believe. They do have some pretty good food here including a very French Dip sandwich with french fries. Most of their menu (and drinks) are a couple dollars cheaper than you're used to elsewhere in the city (like $8.95 for things that are usually $10.95). I've never gotten fast or attentive service here whether I was seated at a table or served at the bar so the service stinks. Nothing is horrendous here but it's not very memorable either.

I would never think of Twins as a destination spot, and I've never been there in the evening or night.  I agree with the other reviewers that the place feels a little too slick -- an Irish pub with white tablecloths?  Really?

With that said, their burgers are inexplicably tasty -- thick, meaty and grilled to perfection.  I work down the block and when me and my coworkers go out for a sit-down lunch somewhere, it's usually Twins.  You could do a lot worse than one of their burgers plus a pint of Stella in the middle of the day.

update 3/12/08: The medium-rare burger I ordered at lunch today was practically well-done.  Ew.  Dropping a star.

"Three days ago we stopped in a pub, to grab a break from the rain.  The locals gave us a collective snub, but we were feeling no pain. . . "

A quick pint of Guinness and a splash of powers irish whiskey neat in a rocks glass couldn't save this place . . and we weren't about to invest the time needed here to buddy-up with the patrons. . . Three TVs with sports crawl, U2's "With or Without You," and 80's era Springsteen appeased these commuters.  And while I like a formal bartender with a tie, not with a button-down casual shirt and khakis, dude. . . you are in New York City.   This place sucks. . .  Bring on the cold weather, I'm going outside.

You've been here before, think of every "Irish Pub" that gets its Irish on by having Guinness on tap, a bottle of Tullemore Dew placed behind the bar, and a dicky bartender with a brogue.

Too clean, too polished, the place has a corporate feel.  Typically, flat HD screens showing ESPN are placed here and there, hope that they are showing the top plays or bloopers so at least you will have something interesting at which to look .

Crappy beer selection, nothing of note in bottles, and no imagination at the tap, Smithwick's, the aforementioned Guinness, Harp, Bass, and Stella.  The pour on the Guinness was too fast, one of the many indicators from the bartender that my crazy looking ass was not welcome there.  At the bar, a guy was eating a plate of wings that smelled o.k., but was pretty small.  I called my friend off from ordering them as even though it was pouring out, I could not wait to get the hell out of there.
