Good staff, very attentive despite the huge Halloween crowd. Â The pumpkin pie shisha was awful though, and our hookah leaked air very badly around the base. Â They weren't willing to replace our leaky hookah, or offer us a different type of shisha, even though we made the comment shortly after getting it that we did not care for it. Â All through college I had my own hookah, but tonight I thought it would be fun to go here with friends. Â Having said that, I regret my visit and will not be back.
Review Source:As far as hookah bars are concerned this one should be skipped. They played loud rap music with graffiti on the wall which doesn't inspire a lot of middle eastern culture to me. It's obviously playing to a trend and not the cultural significance of hookah.
My friends and I got the 4 hose hookah with mango flavor. It was alright, but for the money I spent it should've been extraordinary. They use quick light coals (first sign that it's not that great), but they did use a Naklah tobacco (I believe, judging by the buzz).
Furthermore, it was cold, and the drink selection was minimal. The staff was friendly so they do have that going for them. if looking for a hookah bar in Columbus I'd look elsewhere.
This place used to be pretty good--back when you could get a late night falafel or Turkish coffee--but the last two times i stopped in to 1001 Nights, the vibe had changed to something less pleasant and the middle eastern food menu was replaced with the usual fried american finger foods. I would guess that you can still relax and smoke and meet some interesting people here, but it seems the incidence of verbal/physical conflicts among patrons has increased over time. Â In other words, i've seen the police with their red and blues flashing and a general ruckus happening outside of here more recently than in times past.
Review Source:This has always been my favorite hookah bar in Columbus. Â The Shi-Shah seems alright but the one time I was in there it wasn't that great - but I am willing to give it another shot. Â The problem is that I live and hang on the OTHER side of campus and do not often end up going out in the North Campus area (which is where Shi-Shah is).
1001 Nights is also the best place to get flavored hookah tobacco if you happen the have your own hookah. Â When a friend brought back a Hookah from overseas I went around to all the tobacco shops I could find to check out different flavors and prices, and 1001 Nights ended up being our go-to place. Â If you stop by right after bar closing time expect to see a crowd - especially if it is a weekend night. Â Come earlier to get a good couch and a chess board if you're just trying to chill.
With the exception of the Shi Sha Lounge, which is located clear across the other side of Ohio State's campus, 1001 Nights is the coolest hookah lounge on High Street. Whereas Shi Sha feels more like a chilled out living room, 1001 Nights has kind of a restaurant feel and some excellent drinks to go along with it. Their chai latte is pretty good, and a muffin I tried there once was fresh and tasty as well. The hookahs come in a ton of flavors and are moderately priced. This is a great place to wind down after a night out in short North, as you'll be able to tell by the portion of Skully's and Surly Girl's constituency that unwinds here after a bout of drinking and dancing. The music here is questionable at times, but otherwise 1001 Nights is great!
