This is a gem and a wonderful addition to the area.
To my knowledge, they only offer small cheese plates (and others alike) and I've yet to have any of it so my review is based on a visit for wine and coffee.
The atmosphere is very welcoming, clean and comfortable. I appreciate that it is open during the day as a coffee shop and that they offer wine tastings at night. We stopped in in a hurry recently to pick up a bottle of wine. We told the man what we were looking for and he quickly set up a tasting for us. We left with a wonderful white with the intention to go back when we have more time. He was helpful and very friendly.
The one time I got coffee was a similar experience. Nice people, good product.
Came here on a Saturday to get a few wine flights. It was pretty crowded but I was happy they were getting so much business. The wine flights are around $12-14 and they're a lot of fun to guess which notes are in the wine. You may think you're a wine connoisseur but I bet most people won't pick up on the hint of "volcanic dust." Lots of fun to come here with friends, they also have some good coffee selections for when you want to sober up a bit before leaving.
Review Source:I was visiting my family for the holidays in Cincinnati, and my sister (who is not a very big nightlife person) and I (who is a person who loves wine, beer, and the nightlife scene) were trying to find a place we would both enjoy. Based on the already available Yelp reviews, we chose to venture to 1215.
Upon first glance, this is a cozy, intimate setting where you can delve into wine, beer and coffee delectables. I chose the Geeky Reds flight, and one of the charms of this place is that they label each glass in the flight 1, 2, & 3 and then you can guess which glass is which wine based off of the menu. Once you have chosen, the staff provide you with an answer card which will tell you the kind of wine and its make-up. Its a cute and different way of doing a wine tasting that I very much enjoyed.
My sister and I also delved into the meat and cheese plates. I feel like you really cannot go wrong here, and we (the admittedly unknowing of meat and cheese tasters) just chose three of the cheeses and meats that sounded good to us based on the menu's description. The plates came with bread slices and also an almond something on the side that was delish!
We ended the night with some coffees - I had the Irish Coffee and my sister had the Bourbon Latte (which is a white mocha with bourbon creation). They were also very good and the bartender enlightened us with the fact that the staff will often concoct some crazy coffee and liquor combinations when they have time resulting in the tasty treats before us.
While we there (on a Thursday night post-9PM) there was also live music with a singer and guitar player doing covers ("Stay" by Lisa Loeb comes to mind). It was a great addition to an already great place!
I'd definitely recommend this place for all adult ages (20-somethings and up) as well as for a variety of occasions - date nights, sister bonding, friendly get togethers, etc.
Went here for brunch on a Saturday. Excellent selection of poured coffee - I had a Rwandan blend that was delicious. Only giving it three stars because I went here for brunch and their food menu quite limited (maybe my fault for not having done my research). The brunch menu is limited to 4 types of quiche (which were quite tasty) and some pastries. All in all a good place (also have a bloody mary bar) but don't plan on a satisfying meal.
Review Source:Lots of excellent wine flights with large pours for only about $12! Â Plus, they give you a card with each flight to "guess" which of your numbered glasses matches the description on the menu. There is also a great, but standard, coffee menu. I reccommend the irish coffee, strong and delicious and enough to keep you going for at least another two bars on a staurday night. The Geeky Red Flight was fantastic!
I do not reccommend the Chai. It tasted like sweetened warm, cinnamon milk. There was no spice or kick like true Chai should have.
There is a band that comes in an begins setting up at 7pm on Saturday nights but they hadn't started playing by 8:30 when we left.
Great place to come for wine and cheese plate, overall.
I am so glad that this has FINALLY happened in downtown. As a wine lover, I am all over this place.
Now this is not the place to go if you are STARVING and want to stuff your face. This is a chill place to go, have a drink(or three), have some light bites, and just enjoy yourself.
I have yet to be there when there isn't live music. Always enjoyable.
I love that they offer flights of wine and they bring it out to you like a little guessing game. They write a number on the bottom of each glass and bring you the answer card so you can taste them and try to guess which wine is which from your flight.
If you get the cheese tray, be sure to try the Merlot encrusted cheese. It is to die for.
1215 is a pretty solid wine bar and coffee place.
Likes:
- Cool and relaxing atmosphere
decoration is stylish with lots of exposed brick and natural wood. It's very cozy. I like the giant wooden wine rack behind the bar. I also think it's kind of cool that the whole back wall is a giant chalk board that list's the current coffees and food specials. This is a great place to come to sit and enjoy a wine flight, or a quality cup of coffee.
- Good wine and coffee
Every time I've been here the staff members have been friendly and knowledgeable about both the wine and coffee selections. There is always a large selection of quality, freshly ground, single cup brewed coffees. The wine selection is excellent, and for the most part moderately priced. Wine can be purchased by the bottle, glass, or most popularly by their themed flights. With each of the flights they give you cards with tasting notes on one side, and the names on the other so you can try to guess which notes belong to which glass.
Dislikes
- I don't have any dislikes really. Sometimes it's crowded I guess. so... that.
Overall 1215 is a place worth checking out for anyone who's a fan of wine or coffee. Good wine, good coffee, good atmosphere, good location, good people. What more can you ask for?
Whether wine or coffee, I've always had a splendid time at 1215.
A much needed addition to the late night OTR scene, I find myself visiting for late night coffee since the other options around town roll up the carpet at 8:00pm. While the menu lists several espresso-type drinks, I asked if I could get an iced toddy.
The barista was able to whip one up, and while it wasn't a common request, he made sure to ask me questions about how I wanted it prepared. I'm not picky. I just wanted a pint sized glass of cold coffee flavored with cream and vanilla. It was whipped up and delivered in minutes. Other nights I've had cups of hot java which arrived with a frothy design on top, be it a heart, a feather, or another artistic shape.
1215 is also a fabulous place to come with the ladies for wine. Offering wine flights and meat and cheese pairings, you can improve your palate with several tastes of whites, reds, or sparkling. Wine is a bit more costly than desired, at $9.00 - $12.00 per glass, but remember you are paying for the environment too.
My favorite seat in the house is at a table by the front window, where I can people watch along Vine Street. It's also the perfect area for an evening breeze while sipping beverages.
1215 is best suited for couples or four-somes rather than large groups. It's a small, intimate area with limited seating for crowds.
Price per person: $10.00 - $22.00
1215 is one of my very favorite places in Cincinnati. It combines all my favorite things in one place: wine, coffee, cheese & meat plates, and dessert. What else could a person want?
The wine selection is varied and unique. At any point there will probably be some things even the most able wine connoisseur will have never heard of. Fear not! The staff is very knowledgeable, trained by the in-house sommelier, and will be happy to recommend something you will love.
Also, blind tasting flights are way cool.
The coffee is a kick in the pants. Very strong, but super yummy. If you like, they will even put booze in it for you. :) Careful, though, this stuff is rocket fuel. Trust me when I say a little goes a long way.
Everyone keeps talking about the wine selection at night, but during the day this is actually a very underrated little coffeeshop!
The coffee is made very well, and very strong. Love coming here on Saturday mornings and sipping outside. At night it turns into something else completely different, but for a few hours every morning, it is a very relaxing neighborhood meeting place.
Also, when my sister was staying with me for a while, she would study here. Apparently guys would always come up and talk to her. So if you are into that, there is that too! Have fun!
went on a friday evening. Â totally booked. Â BUT hostess was super friendly and eager to help us get seats. Â so we stayed and were happy we did. Â we each tried a flight (me red, her white) and they were delicious. Â service was attentive but not vulture-esque. Â only drawback was the group of 3 women who apparently could not control their ridiculously loud and obnoxious voices. Â but, you'll have that, no matter where you go.
Review Source:The first coffee shop we tried in Cincy. The bartender/barista/manager (?) wasn't super welcoming. She just kind of stared as we walked in, and then the entire time just made faces at us like she was looking forward to seeing us leave.
I wanted to stay all day and eventually switch to wine, but we decided after an hour or two that her eyes were burning a hole in the backs of our heads.
First of all, let me share that this wine bar also has a fine collection of craft beer available. Â But I had been thinking about a glass of white wine all day so that's what I wanted. Â
My favorite whites are pinot grigio, pinot gris, sauvignon blanc, etc. When I looked at the wines available by the glass, none of those were available. I decided to be game and try the Germanic white flight instead. Â Well, my server didn't explain that the card he put upside down in front of the glasses had the corresponding numbers for the glasses. Â I was going by their order on the menu so I was really confused.
The food I saw looked good and I did have a bite of the chocolate dessert that was nice.
Some time, I'll got back and give them another try. Â But, if I don't see any styles of wine I know I like, I'll be ordering a craft beer instead.
Paris oh Paris, how I miss you! Grabbing a glass of wine with a cheese or meat selection after work... it was pretty normal during the 2 years I lived in Paris.
And then we moved to Cincinnati, where beer is king. Even being Belgian I'm impressed by how much people adore beer here. I don't, so I usually go with cider, or a cherry or framboise Belgian fruity beer. I didn't realize I could recreate the Parisian experience until I went to 1215.
It was actually for my birthday drinks. We had about an hour to kill before going to taste of Belgium and decided to grab some drinks here. My friends tried the Rosé and Red wine flight and I tried the sparkling wine (nice color combinations, you know!). I loved the concept of trying to guess which one was which, even when I couldn't be bothered to play the game myself -- it's all yummy sparkling wine to me!
The service was perfect, the owner came to chat to us and was so friendly. The staff knew what they were talking about and helped us to choose the meat and cheese selections.
We could only stay for an hour, but it was a perfect experience!
Merci et à la prochaine!
MY FAVORITE HANG OUT IN CINCINNATI
This place has everything I look for in an establishment.
1. Atmosphere- romantically lit, cozy decor, open air, patio, no clutter, candlelit tables, nice aroma
2. Staff- On site owners. This is always something that is at the top of the reasons for a small business to be successful. The owners are both so sweet, especially JoAnna. She is almost always there. She is great at recommending wines based on your usual preference. This is useful to help get you out of your comfort zone and expand your wine experience. Â Amanda (Server) is also amazing! She is attentive, helpful, sweet and adorable. She is great at making suggestions for new wines to try.
3. Products- This is so important. 1215 provides the highest quality wines, beers, cheeses, meats, nuts, oils, desserts and coffee. They are each carefully selected.ber  The menu is not huge. The menu is perfect. You can come in, have wine and cheese and meats, then after some great conversation with friends switch over to great coffee  and the most amazing desserts. Try the nutella bread pudding (nothing like regular bread pudding) It is like layers of crepes with nutella in between. YUM.  They also have a chocolate tort thing that has olive oil and sea salt. It is so different and delish. You can also buy whole bottles of wine and take them with you.
4. Entertainment- The music playing is welcoming, comforting and fun but that is not what I mean when I say entertainment. They have flights of wine here. My favorite is called something like interesting whites or little known whites. You look over the description, choose your flight, they bring you three numbered glasses. You get a card placed face down. When you are ready, you choose the order you believe the wines are numbered. Then you check your card. Â It is a game you play with yourself! Not a big deal but it is fun and a good way to see how your palate develops.
5. BRUNCH- Â Bloody mary bar, great champagne, sparkling wines, mimosas, yummy food by Cooking with Catlin. What more can you ask for?
This is my favorite place.
One of my top 10 favorite accidental restaurant experiences. Â Laura S. and I happened to see this cute coffee shop/restaurant/wine bar while we were en route to our *intended* brunch destination. Â We poked our heads in and saw the pretty wood and brick interior, the small but intriguing menu (hello Challah French toast with orange-infused syrup), and the bloody Mary bar, and decided we had walked far enough.
The French toast and accompanying syrup were excellent, as was my accompanying cup of coffee (selected from six or so varieties of pour-over coffee available). Â They also were happy to design a bloody Mary for my friend, rather than forcing her to bungle through the experience herself. Â (Why are DIY bloody Marys so popular, anyway?) Â Service was friendly, prices were reasonable. Â If I ever end up in Cincinnati again, I'll be back.
1215 nails the holy grail of gathering places - somewhere you can get a beer, glass of wine, OR a cup of coffee. It's a great place to start an evening because you can get your jolt of caffeine before switching to adult beverages.
Sometimes, they even mix the two - on my last visit to 1215, my friend had a surprisingly delicious Bourbon Latte. Actually, he had three - but I won't judge him for that.
1215 is conveniently located in the Gateway Quarter and should be a stop on any evening-out itinerary in OtR.
Thank God this place exists. I love bars just as much as the next guy but sometimes I just like a nice glass of wine and not very many bars in Cincinnati offer good wine - enter 1215.
This place is now a go to of mine. Its elegant, yet casual. It's intimate, yet welcoming. It 's anything you want it to be. They have coffee in the morning. Brunch on Sunday's provided by Cooking with Caitlin (who is amazing) A bloody mary bar where you can actually customize your bloody any way you like!
As for the wine it is probably the best selection in the city as far as a bar type atmosphere. I love that when you get the flight they put the numbers on the glasses with a sheet in front of you and tell you to guess after while just enjoying the flavors of the wine. This was genius! Because at the table half of us said, "Oh well we wont like this one because we don't like Chardonnay" then when we picked our favorite they pointed to number 3 and it was in fact Chardonnay. It gets people to relax and open their comfort zones while having a cool ice breaker for the table too!
The owners are the all stars here. There are places where I have been 30 times and have never seen the owner or even the manager at. This place there is always one there. They are always so passionate which is INFECTIOUS!!!!
To start your night, or to end your night...it's always a fabulous time at 1215.
I love wine bars. Â I love wine bars that love wine and create an experience where I can experience new wines in an intimate environment. Â I love eating cool cheeses with my wines. Â I love hearing acoustic music while I enjoy my wine and cheese. Â 1215 has all these things, and more! Â They offer wine flights that are out of order on the menu, so you get to try to find the cherry notes with a tobacco finish among the three tasters and guess which wine you are tasting. Â A great place to start a night or grab an after dinner drink.
My only reservation is how loud it gets inside with the small space and exposed brick, every conversation is amplified to an almost deafening roar at times, especially with the aforementioned acoustic music. Nevertheless, I'll be back over and over again.
I've been here a handful of times so far and love it! It definitely feels like I've stepped out of Cincinnati and am in some intimate cafe halfway across the world ... or at least New York City. Some nights they have musicians, just adding to the ambiance of the place.
Their staff is overly friendly and easy to make conversation with.
I've been in during the day for coffee. I had a chai latte and loved it. They also apparently do a bloody mary/mimosa brunch, which I will have to try at some point.
Their wine list is extensive and not too expensive. They also have a good beer list. Definitely a good, chill spot for both daytime and a night out.
Oh how I wanted to love this place! After hearing such great things, the husband and I decided to stop by for Sunday brunch. The space is lovely and we were given a seat right by the opened windows. At first our server was extremely attentive: she was quick with coffee suggestions and did a great job explaining the brunch dishes. After receiving our drinks, we were definitely enjoying ourselves. The first hiccup was not anything major, however the husband never received his cream and sugar. Shortly after this our food arrived, it looked and tasted delicious! The problem was the serving size was pretty skimpy for the price when compared to other equally good brunch spots in OTR, Northside and other areas of the city. The food was enjoyable, but I suggested that we grab a waffle from Taste of Belgium afterwards to share since I did not leave full.
Finally, after our dishes were cleared - the staff vanished from our table for at least a half hour. There was no one around to ask us if we would like our check, if we needed anything or even just to refill our water. I'm not sure if it was because we were tucked away in the corner, but finally a server who was not ours stopped by and asked if we wanted our check. It was 45-50 minutes after our plates were cleared that we were finally able to leave.
I'm giving three stars because the servers were nice when they were available and the food was very good, but I think I might check out 1215 again in the evening when I am looking for a glass of wine or maybe if I am just in need of a cup of coffee. Maybe that will provide a better overall experience.
The Coffee Lab is definitely an experiment!
I've hypothesized that I would have a largely positive experience, but results have proven to be inconclusive.
My first test was completed on an early Saturday afternoon. Â I worked with the Arancini while my assistant worked on the new synthetic Skyline. Â Though, I've found the combination of orange and dark chocolate to be quite palatable, my dish was missing some key components. Â It was low in moisture content and sweet to taste, which is an undesirable combination. Â The overall density was an issue. Â Meanwhile, my assistant found the presentation of her work to be poorly organized and I noted that this item was less than satisfactory as well.
To confirm results, a second test was in order. Â This experiment took place on a Friday morning. Â My assistants and I mixed Mimosas with The Laboratory's Bruschetta. Â These proved to be no ordinary pieces of bread with tomatoes. Â Instead, the typical Bruschetta was combined with beans, artichoke, and wasabi. Â Three pieces, each with their own unique characteristics. Â Though one of my assistants was looking for more traditional results, I found these to be quite tasteful. Â A largely harmonious symbiotic relationship. Â Additionally, they formed a strong bond with the mimosas.
Having completed the two tests we seemed to have found conflicting results. Â Further tests will be needed to help eliminate the variables that are causing the conflict. Â Then, and only then, will we be able to fully prove or disprove my hypothesis.
I have been here twice on my last two visits to CIncinnati, and have enjoyed my times here. They have a really interesting selection of wines, and I really enjoyed trying new wines. They have tiny suggestions underneath the categories of wines suggesting which cheese and meats to pair with the wines.
It has a really warm and inviting atmosphere and it is fun to sit in there with some friends and enjoy a glass. I like that when the weather is nice they open up the huge front windows. When I was there the last time, a live musician was setting up for a show, and I can imagine that it would be nice to listen to some live music and sip on some great wine.
All in all, everything is reasonably priced, its a nice place to sit and enjoy some company, and you can try nice and interesting wines. I would recommend a stop by this place, and I am not even from Cincinnati!
I seriously do love the burgeoning scene in OTR. I went to meet up with some girlfriends and got a window table at 1215 on a Wednesday- for Blind Flight Night.
I will fly blind with these folks more often- or as my friend said, "This is probably the only way I'd fly blind!"
The blind flight we had was "Local Celebrities." Grapes which are famous in the region where they are grown, but largely unknown outside of that area. I don't normally drink white wine, but these were delightful.
The service was great, funny and friendly- great at explaining. Â We had a meat plate, and we didn't love some of our choices, but the ones we did like, we LOVED.
It is a little on the pricy side, so I don't know if I could go here often, but I need to go back and try the coffee. I have heard wonderful things.
Hooray for this place!
I really love 1215 Wine Bar, and I've only experience half of it's glory.
This beautiful, dark, wine bar feels like something out of Paris in the 40's. Brick walls, small tables, friendly servers. It is just comfortable to be in here.
1215 prides itself on it's fantastic selection of wines from all around the world and I have to say, it's fantastic. Whites or reds, whatever your preference is, they nail it. They also do really amazing three-glass flights for $12 to $15, and each one is almost a full glass. It's not so much as a flight as ... well, a grand old time.
(I also love that they bring you all three glasses at once and a card face down explaining what they are. You're supposed to sip, guess which is which and then turn the card of over to see if you nailed it. Turn the card over and compare to the numbers written on the stem. So much fun - and I fail everytime I try. But darn it, I'm going to get better.)
I've also had some of the light bites, like the meat try with some fantastic spiced meats that went perfectly with the wine. Couldn't have been happier.
There are a lot of tables in this smallish place and when they're all full, it can feel a little cramped sitting there. You also can sometimes be forgotten by your servers if they're a little overworked, but just go up to the counter and let them know (and they always apologize for it in the most sincere kind of way.)
My real issue? I've only been at night for the Wine Bar! They're also a self-proclaimed "Coffee Lab," and I've never been there in the morning to try it! This must be rectified as soon as I can, because if it's as great as the wine bar, I'm going to be well-caffeinated and very pleased.
1215 earned 5 stars but I'd give myself 2 stars as a customer.
I had a 7:15AM meeting this morning and showed up at 7. I'm not a coffee drinker. I don't know the coffee language. I don't know what a latte or espresso or machiatto or cup o' joe is, really.
What can I get you, the guy asked? It was nice to see a regular guy behind a coffee counter. I'm fairly open minded but the conformity of the multiple piercings and tats gets a bit boring.
I dunno know, I said from behind the morning fog that still clouded my brain. I don't really like coffee.
He then gave me a look that wasn't quite rude but said, You do know you walked into a place with the word "Coffee' in the title, right?
He had a point. To counter his point I pointed at a Chai Latte. I think I'd had one of those before. Then, instead of just getting this idiot his Chai Lattee, the guy behind the counter did something totally uncalled for.
He suggested a shot of espresso to give me a nice introduction to the coffee taste. He said it would taste better. Sure, I said and sat myself down.
He brought it out with a fancy little design on top that made me feel a bit girly but was nice and the drink was pretty darned good. The coffee bite gave it some balance. I appreciated the extra effort from a 'barista' at 7:15 in the morning.
I read about 1215 and was intrigued, but hadn't made it down to have a coffee or try some wine. Both appeal to me, and I'd almost want to alternate them, but sadly...never made it for just those ends.
A few weeks ago I met a friend for dinner at Bakersfield. Given the overwhelming popularity of the joint, there was an hour wait. Lucky for me a familiar face was seated in the opened front store that is 1215. She called me in and I sat down with her, some others she'd just met, and waited for my friend. With an hour to burn, I decided a drink would be divine. My friend agreed when she arrived and we imbibed and chatted with a random bunch of folks. Always interesting. Good thing there was wine ;)
Though I think this location can/should be a destination in an of itself, it's conveniently located between a handful of very busy restaurants with small to non-existant foyers and oft packed bars when there is a wait. If you're waiting for a reservation, head over here. If you want a drink or coffee in general, head over here. It's beyond convenient. Additionally, for a post meal drink without the pressure/sneering looks of hungry patrons anxious to take your table as you casually chat and sip wine, it is perfectly placed. Well done folks!
The wine was a bit on the expensive side at $9 for my glass, and all the more sad because I just missed the cut off for happy hour. Another option to spend your wait or extend your evening is the option to make it to 1215 before 7, as you wait for your table at Bakersfield, Abigail Street, or A Tavola, and have some even better priced wine. My $9 glass wasn't offensively priced given the locale, but I'd rather pay $4.50. This might be the most utilitarian use of these OTR gems being neighbors. Do this! Now! (I'm scheming right now for my own chance this upcoming week...)
The open front doors make for an almost European feel as if you were sitting at a sidewalk cafe on vacation, Â not a care in the world, contemplating what world charm and venue you want to see next: I'll take that. It's brick, sophisticated, and quite cute inside, with wine along the walls and a chalk menu to add to the relaxed atmosphere (or is that the freely flowing wine?).
I only spent about an hour here, and would like to go back to give it a more thorough review, but I will say, first impression: a relaxed, hip, sweet wine/coffee shop. Check it out!
I took my boyfriend and myself here for the first time the other day. I was really pleased with my experience here.
I ordered a glass of red wine and a cappuccino and my boyfriend ordered a beer and a cappuccino. The cappuccinos were really good! They have a great selection of wines and they also have wine tastings for $6.
The decor is pretty simple and they have a lot of dining area.
I have also heard that they have good food. And they have a Sunday brunch.
They also have fair trade coffee that they label.
The only thing that I didn't really agree with was that some of the beers and wines were a slight bit over priced. But over all I really enjoyed my experience here.
First impressions of 1215:
Brick walls and OTR charm. Lovely.
Live music. Lovelier.
Generous pours and affordable wine flights. Loveliest.
I ordered the $12 new world whites flight, but the server ended up bringing something different. I'm not one to waste good wine, so I told him not to worry and truly enjoyed the mistake. I only wish I could remember the name of the flight he brought now (sorry, Yelp!). Each generous glass was labeled with a number on the stem and came with a separate answer key that noted which wine was which. It made for a pretty fun guessing/drinking game... I lost, but didn't feel like a loser. In fact, after three tastings of wine, I kinda felt like a winner.
I can't speak to the food since we headed over to Senate for dinner, but the fact that they also call themselves a coffee laboratory has me excited to return for a cappuccino the next time I'm in Cincy.
We happened to be in the neighborhood for a walk. Â The sign out front proclaiming homemade blintzes pulled us in. Â The atmosphere was nice - old world with some "lab" decor. Â We sat at the bar and split a blintz which was 3 mini blintzes. Â It was $8. Ouch. Â I'm glad we had water. Â The make-your-own bloody mary bar was $8. Â The chalkboard of coffee drinks seemed to be on the pricey side if you ask me. Â
Cost aside, this would be a nice place to grab a lite bite and a drink - either coffee or wine. Â They have a nice selection of retail wine and beer for sale as well.
I have a very specific ambiance and atmosphere that I look for in any restaurant or bar. Â I guess if I were to put it one way, it would be - anything that is the opposite of a chain restaurant or bar. Â The 1215 Wine Bar & Coffee Lab has exactly that small personal quaint feel that I like. Â
The Ambiance
When you step in, you're certainly not stepping into a large area and you're not stepping into a Starbucks or a Wise Guy Wine Bistro.  But, you are stepping into a small, quaint, sophisticated hipster wine and coffee bar.  The bar itself is old and worn (I'm assuming it was acquired from another bar business) and the exposed brick on the outside wall hasn't been touched in years.  The coffee menu is written in normal - but legible - handwriting on a Chalkboard Wall in the back.  But, my favorite thing about the atmosphere is the same as all the other great places in OTR -  the large glass doors that open up to expose a couple of the tables to the outside sidewalk.  Those are the exact café's that I search out in other Cities when I travel.
The Wine
Another thing I love when visiting wine bars is the ability to get wine flights. Â We ordered a couple of wine flights to share. Â The pours and the price were both right and each flight came with a card that explained each of the wines. Â The wines by the glass selection seem to be nice and the prices are right on those too. Â We ordered a cheese plate with our wine flights. Â We allowed the staff to select our cheese based off of our wine selection. Â The cheese plate was simple, but just enough to enjoy with our wine.
The Coffee
I didn't have any of the coffee, but the selection looked good - and I did spot a bourbon coffee drink, so that sells me :)
Bottom Line:
If you like small, quaint, and rustic wine or coffee houses, you will love this place. Â Get there early, because it gets busy!
This is just  a darling place. The food is outstanding and so is the coffee. I wouldn't do it every day because it will break your bank but this is a very nice restaurant.
The bar staff is extremely friendly and so is the wait staff.
If you can get to it on an off night or a quite weekday after lunch the ambiance is wonderful.
Really like this space and I hope they make a go of it.
I'm happy to see an option like this on Vine Street. Â I stopped in with a friend on a Friday night around 9:30 and the bar was busy but not crazy. Â Prices are reasonable; especially for flights ($15 for a flight of four when we were there - and these are generous pours!)
The atmosphere is dark and cozy, but still somehow lively and friendly. Â They also stock a small but high quality selection of wine and beer for carry-out, which is welcome considering there aren't many other options in the neighborhood.
Happened to visit 1215 for their Sunday brunch, and I couldn't have had a tastier experience! I had their Cincy Steak & Eggs in addition to some pastries I just couldn't pass up. The steak was marinated in Skyline Chili, and although at first that seems a bit strange, the combination of the slight chili flavor with the hot sauce oyster crackers wasn't so overwhelming that I felt like I was revisting the 5-way for my morning meal. In fact, it might be my new favorite way to eat steak & eggs!
The staff was more than knowledgeable to accomodate any request or recommendation about the food on hand, and we easily were able to get a delicious cup of coffee while waiting for a table. My friend even had some beautiful latte art that held its shape until the last drop! Impressive! They were quite crowded when we first walked in, but to be expected as any other brunch spot in OTR. In fact, likely a good sign to have that big of a crowd in their first week of opening.
I definitely plan on making a return visit to try out Aunt Norma's Breakfast (looked equally if not more delicious than my meal), and of course need to experience the make your own Bloody Mary bar.
This place definitely hit the spot, and I'm excited to go back!
Went on a saturday, had a glass of wine, the Cincinnati Steak and Eggs Brunch, and an iced coffee.
Wine - Enjoyed the wine, price was comparable to other locations but then again you get price gouged on wine everywhere.
Brunch - Delicious. Â The steak is marinated in skyline chili, the eggs are poached, and it's served with cheddar cheese grits.
Iced Coffee - Went with the recommendation of the server and it was extraordinary, the flavors were very bold.
Service - Excellent, the servers were friendly and helpful.
Ambiance - It's a nice laid back bar and I really like the design of the interior.
This is exactly what OtR needed! Â We have been there a couple times now and it seems to get better with each visit. Â I do wish the space was bigger and there was more seating, but the ambiance is still wonderful. Â It has been crowded when we visited but I think that's great and a testament to the quality of the establishment.
I have not tried their food yet but am planning on getting the cheese plate next time...it looked delicious! Â The wine selection is diverse and affordable. Â I typically do not partake in wine flights but they execute it perfectly here. Â Our server (maybe sommelier?), Bob, was awesome. Â He thoroughly explained each wine choice and gave great suggestions. Â He even came back over after I had sampled them to ask which was my favorite and make suggestions for our next visit. Â It is obvious that Bob knows wine!
We are sure to be regulars (aka winos) at 1215. Â It's the perfect place to stop by while waiting for a table at other dinner spots but it's also worthy of spending your whole evening there.
I was pleasantly surprised to randomly stumble upon this Wine & Coffee Bar. Â I was just walking by and decided it would be a great opportunity for lunch!! Â There were only three options, but all of them looked really good, and the coffee was a nice change of pace from the normal Starbucks that everyone clings to.
I was openly welcomed by one of the owner/partners of the the joint and instantly told her I was a bit of a wino (ok, fine, I lied...I'm a very big wino). Anyways, she was telling me that they can serve by the bottle any of the wines in the place, or by the glass for a large selection of the wines. Â However, the special ticket items are the Wine Flights - they have spent a number of hours putting together a menu of complementing wine trios. Each trio totals a glass and a half of wine, so you don't have to worry about drinking too much and still get to try a couple different kinds.
I unfortunately went at lunch and was not offered the luxury to begin drinking at noon, so I will have to return to this place very soon to get that opportunity!
A nice complement to the growing Gateway Quarter. Haven't tried the coffee offerings yet, but we had a couple wine flights and a meat and cheese plate. The prosciutto was nice, so were the cheeses, and they were served with ever-so-slightly toasty bread. I particularly appreciated that they allowed us to combine the meat and cheese selections into one order, since three meats would have been too much for us. That kind of accommodation to your customers is what builds loyalty (mine, anyway).
The flights were OK--French better than the Italian, which fell a little short. The burgundy was good; bourdeaux a little too fruity; cotes du rhone was nice. The chianti was the best of the Italian selections--the barbera and nero d'avola weren't fabulous. But they did offer a special Valentine's sparkling rose flight, which was tempting.
Overall, a really nice place that I know we'll stop through often.
