My significant otter and I were enjoying a Saturday of museum hopping in Louisville and realized we were both really hungry as we hadn't eaten breakfast. He remembered seeing a sign from our hotel (21C) for this little sandwich shop and suggested we see if they were open.
Their menu looked straightforward and we each ordered sandwiches (they also offer hot dogs and salads). The woman who took our order was friendly (I gotta say, Louisville, everyone we met on this trip was an excellent ambassador of your city) and suggested the otter try a "Derby" sandwich as he was indecisive.
I like the atmosphere in the place. Booths divided under canopy-like structures. We each got sodas and a bag of chips to round out our meal.
I was pleasantly surprised to find the bread was toasted. I got the roast beast and it was delicious. It tasted more like pot roast. The otter liked his Derby sandwich.
If you are touring any of the nearby museums, go here for lunch.
So... my office is a hop, skip and a jump away from this sandwich shop. Otherwise it might be another sandwich shop. But I've got to say, I'm happy this is the one I got. It is somehow a pretty well kept secret. There are always people there (because it's good food), but there are never more than a couple of them in front of me in line. I dig that in a work lunch spot.
Many of their sammiches and such are hot and tasty off the griddle.
You can get a multitude of sizes, so feel free to check out 2 mini subs for a mini price.
Grab a breakfast muffin or piece of fruit for a side.
Never hit 10 bucks.
That spells win for me. Well, not literally, but you know what I mean. In a hurry, grab a bite here. Between this and Main St Eatery, you'll be well taken care of downtown.
Hey guy who just toured the Louisville Slugger factory and your three kids are whining about wanting a sandwich and dragging their feet and smacking each other with their whacking sticks. Don't settle for the Subway across the street. Another Place is around the corner and is mighty decent.
Plenty of pretty good hot or cold sandwiches for about $4-5. Fast service, cafeteria-style. Friendly service. Free wireless. Different soups daily, salads, and sides beyond bagged chips or fries.
Strictly speaking, there's nothing memorable. But there are no regrets here either, and for the location it's a nice option for anyone wanting a quick bite.
