Gavi's is a small diner tucked away near the police department/court house. The food was pretty good and the prices were reasonable. I got the baked chicken with mashed potatoes, gravy, green beans and two slices of wheat bread for $6.00. The seasoning on the chicken was terrific, but it was a little dry. It was probably sitting in the warmer for a bit. Everything else was good -- not out of this world -- but tasty.
The clientele seemed to be regulars -- a policeman, a couple of construction workers, two older gentlemen and a few people getting to-go orders.
The food wasn't so good that I would go out of my way to eat at Gavi's. But if I'm ever looking for some cheap comfort food to warm my belly during my lunch break, you can't really beat the prices.
It's hard to judge a place on simply one visit (unless, of course, first time out they suck completely.) I like to give a place at least a couple tries to get my business. From the moment I tried Gavi's the first time, I knew I'd be back, so, here I am!
Gavi's is just comfortably good food. Had a double cheeseburger dressed, fried on a flat grill and it completely lived up to expectations, cole slaw too plus a glass of sweet tea (which was never allowed to get completely empty.) Service was attentive and seemed to enjoy what they were doing, breaking up into little conversations with the locals and regulars, but not giving any of their customers cold shoulders. This is what little diners are about and what they should be. A very solid four stars.
Look forward to stopping in again.
