It smells like stale beer and puke in there. Worst bar in the seaport. The bartenders aren't even good looking!

Had a work event here this past week and was surprised they had such a poor rating because the staff were really on top of it. As soon as I finished one beer they had another in my hands. Cool place with great staff that can handle a crowd well, I approve!

The first thing I feel like I should say is that it is my personal opinion that ABG is a  great place to go, but really only in the summer months. Their roof/side decks are fantastic; the roof offers a great view of the city/water while the side deck offers a nice view of the water and shade from the burning hot sun when you forget you need SPF 500 sunscreen. Obviously if you come to a beer garden you should be drinking beer, so I can't speak to their mixed drinks, but their beer selection is pretty amazing! The roof deck does have a food menu, however, it is super limited, literally only like 6 things you can order, so if you're hungry and looking to nom, sit downstairs or on the side deck because the roof deck is mostly for snacking. I can attest to the calamari, which was really good and was mixed with fried hot peppers, yummmm, and also the buffalo chicken queso dip, which was nothing special and sort of tasted like velveeta with some mildly stale chips. Overall, I would come here to drink but I think it's pretty hit or miss with the food.

Looked for a quick gluten-free and tasty munchies spot post Harpoon Brewery tour. Ordered the nachos -- which hit the spot -- and the much acclaimed Mac and Cheese Burger.  Fantastic grilling (medium) and meat was great, but we were really looking forward to that cheesy, macaroni middle... Which was lacking.  Thanks for the good service and the football purview studio though...

It was very unfortunate to witness their bouncer racially profile an individual and break their arm. This establishment is currently the defendant for battery charges. They also lied during their administrative hearing. It saddens me to see a bar that gives Boston a bad name!

I was in Boston for work for a few days, and this place was recommended by a few locals that we knew.  We arrived in Boston early in the afternoon on Sunday, and wanted a place to watch the football games.  Let me just say, if you're looking for a great place to watch a game, this is your place.  There are about a zillion TV's, all of which have great pictures, and they appeared to be new.  They have an outdoor patio that overlooks the back bay/harbor as well.  It really was quite nice for a sports bar.

They have a huge list of beers and drinks.  I opted for the Sam Adams Brick Red.  When in Rome....The beer was nice and flavorful, and hit the spot after the 2 and a half hour flight to beantown.  For my meal, I ordered the stuffed smokehouse burger.  It was a burger stuffed with cheddar cheese and bacon, then topped with more cheese and BBQ sauce.  Holy heart attack!  It was great, but very filling.  It comes with fries.  You can upgrade to their spicy curly fries for 99 cents.  I just opted for the regular fries.

All in all, this is a great place to watch a game and have a drink.  I'll definitely be back when I'm in Boston again for work.

Great Sports Bar with good food!! Location is excellent parking is tough, might as well pay $17 for public parking lot!! This place has a huge rooftop deck and a front patio and back patio.. Plenty of outdoor seating.. A negative is they do not open umbrellas on  even a mildly windy day - So you may be toasting in the sun during your meal if its hot and windy. No out door TVs in Patios, 3 TVs in the rooftop - But Menu is very limited in rooftop patio, on busy days they only serve drinks!

Great beer selection, plenty food.. It's typical bar food... Fun picking with beers and sangrias.. Not top notch stuff though..

I give it a 4 stars because its a fun atmosphere and a hell of a lot cleaner than most sports bars and its right on the water!

The only good part about this restaurant is the deck and the view that you get of the water. For a beer garden, there are very few draught beer options. The food was ok at best, except for the nachos which were very good.

A very popular spot to meet up for after work drinks and apps. Located in the seaport area, Atlantic Beer Garden has a great roof deck that is usually pretty populated. There is also an outdoor lower deck as well as an indoor bar area if you are there for just drinks. It can be a little pricey, but it is a pretty cool place that livens up the seaport area. The fresh fish appetizers and entrees are delicious and the service is good!

Stopped in for a drink after greeting off the plane in Boston. It is pretty much a big sports bar with a very touristy feel. The patio was not great at all very small and they have added some plastic partitions to keep people from jumping in the bay. The partitions just does not look good plus the view I had on the patio was the storage. They use the patio to store beer and all the umbrellas for the patio and other junk I mean come on just put the stuff away. The bright spot of this place was our waitress she was very nice and made sure we had everything we needed. If you are looking for a quick place to just grab and drink and like a huge selection of beer and are stuck working a convention like me this may be the place for you. But if you have time I suggest skipping this place way better places in Boston.

Popped in on a Match date on a Thursday at 7. It was busy, but not too bad and no wait.
Big place, fairly cool, nothing special.
Our waitress was great. I'm a pain and she handled me well and was fun. Way better than my date :(
My date had the Veggie burger, which she enjoyed.
I had the steak sandwich with asparagus as a side instead of fries. The sandwich was really good, flavorful and cooked the way I asked. Asparagus was good, in a brown sauce. Not much of it though.
Beer menu was solid (I like wheat beers and they had a bunch). Prices were what you expect for the area.
    Overall a decent place

    This place makes me sad.

Not because, even on a sunny day, it was dark and unwelcoming inside. Or because the band on the first level was way too loud and outright not good. These things I can overlook. But these atmosphere flaws combined with overpriced, sub-par food and confusing, unhelpful service made me depressed that, despite their incredible location and potential, Atlantic Beer Garden just can't get anything right.

My friend and I arrived around 6 PM on a Sunday wanting to enjoy the summer weather by grabbing a few beers and some food outside. We were to be a party of 3 and told the hostess of our outdoor seating preference. Initially she said that wasn't a problem, and later she came back and said that because we were going to be 3 instead of 2, we had to wait for a table. No problem.

So while we're waiting for our other friend, we sit at a 2-person table and order our first round of drinks. I ordered a bottle of some ginger/honey ale and my friend ordered a strawberry one. The waitress goes off and returns some minutes later explaining that they have run out of BOTH of these because it is Sunday, and since these beers are popular during the summer, they often run out. Okay. So if running out of these (delicious-sounding) beers on Sundays is a trend, why don't you prevent this and just order more? Doesn't sound too crazy to me.

But it's fine. We look back at the beer list (which surprisingly doesn't have much on draught) and try to select back-up plans. I inquire about the Redd's Apple Ale (is it more like cider? how would you describe it?). The waitress answers that it tastes like "apple-y beer." Oh gee, thanks. That clears up a lot. I end up ordering it, and it tasted exactly like cider to me, which is not really what I wanted.

Our friend soon arrives, and we still don't have our 3-person table. Apparently the hostess had not communicated with the waitress that we were waiting on someone and would eventually move, so that caused some confusion. We then ended up accepting an outdoor table on the street-side patio which has much more room and was quieter since it was further away from the restaurant and boisterous band. We couldn't see the water, but in this case we preferred to be further away and actually be able to hear each other talk. A little sad, considering we were at the Seaport for a reason.

On the food front, none of us were very impressed with our meals. I ordered the pistachio-encrusted seared tuna salad. I love tuna. I love pistachios. I really should have loved this. I don't know how, but the pistachios did not add much flavor to the fish at all, and the tuna did not taste very fresh. It sat on a bed of plain lettuce with some random wasabi peas and crispy wonton strips thrown in. This ingredient combination didn't really work, the dressing wasn't anything to rave about, and the $15 price tag ensures that I definitely won't order it again (that is, assuming I come back here again, which is unlikely). My friends didn't love their cheddar/jalapeno burger or steak salad either.

It was time for our second round of drinks! This time, I asked the waitress what the banana bread beer was like. Her answer? "Banana-y." Wow. For a "beer garden," this waitress obviously didn't know much about beer or how to describe it to people who actually care what they're cosuming. I was still intrigued so ordered it anyway. And she was right - it was "banana-y." Not in a good way. I also didn't appreciate that the menu doesn't list beer prices. The first bottles we ordered were fine at $5.50, but this second bottle was bigger (which would've been nice to know beforehand) and imported, so when the check came, I was graciously informed that it cost $11. Not the best surprise.

As this review is already incredibly long and writing it has made me feel even more negatively about this place, I won't go on with my frustrations (even though there are a few other things I didn't love).

In sum, come here if you want to drink on a roofdeck at the Seaport. And only if you already know what the beer you're ordering is going to taste like and cost you. And if you know you won't get hungry for a while.

But ideally, don't come here at all.

Decent food at a decent price with KILLER views and a great beer list, to boot. I would recommend this place for a casual lunch or dinner with friends when you really want to enjoy some great brews and great views. Located right near the WTC, this place offers beautiful harbor-side seating on their deck.

My friends and I all had burgers and they were pretty good, nothing fabulous but nothing to complain about, either. For 99 cents extra, we all sprung for the curly fries and were more than pleased with that decision. Delicious!

This place has a pretty sizable roof deck and a great deck that looks out over the water. I went here specifically to drink outside near the ocean. We first sat up on the roof deck, but they have an extremely limited menu on the roof deck, so we finished our drinks and went down to the deck. We ordered the buffalo chicken queso dip and a few summer shandies and enjoyed the slight breeze by the water. The roof deck (or at least where we had been sitting) had no breeze and no shade, so I was happy that we decided to change locations.

The cheese dip was ok, the chips were kind of stale and the cheese was very much like velveeta. Regardless, I enjoyed my drinks and being by the ocean. I wish the food was a little bit better, but no where I can find along the seaport has good food, so it's par for the course I suppose.

I loved the rooftop deck and view of the harbor here.  There was a short wait, but we got up before finishing our first beer.  Definitely no frills to this place, but as far as drinking I would say it is definitely worth the visit on a nice day.  The food on the other hand, I would pass on next time.  Not too pricey, but not too good either.  Better to just stop by for a few drinks and head somewhere else for a meal (there are too many other good places nearby)!

Ok, here's the deal, the ambience here is not great. Sit outside if you are able to, look out at the harbor and dont look back. The place turns into a dance club at night, so it's... sticky. BUT if you want quality fish in an abundance, come here. The portions are huge, and the fish was a huge chunk of quality fish! The seasoned fries are awful, so just get the regular fries. The draft beers are decent, but on the flatter side. Cant beat the price.

Not a bad night scene, except a line (sometimes long) should be expected.  Don't expect any type of decent service if you come for food or to sit and drink afternoon beers. Staff is often rude and inattentive to the point where you think management must not even care about service. They must make a killing at night so bad service is no big deal. Expect to be quite frustrated with the average waitress.

Summer concert season is under full swing and that's really the only draw to Atlantic Beer Garden for me.  Close to the Pavilion and somehow always easier to get in to than anywhere else along this "strip," ABG might be a step above typical chains, but that certainly doesn't have anything to do with the food.  What bumps it over the edge?  The view, obviously, but I also find the service here really nice and accommodating.  There's no attitude and everyone is perfectly pleasant.  Case in point: Before a concert on an overcast night, some friends and I were eating outside on the patio.  It was sprinkling on and off and we just didn't feel like dealing with the uncertainty of whether or not it would suddenly downpour, so we decided to go inside.  Servers came out right away, helped us carry our food and drinks, and immediately set us up at another table inside.  It was a smooth transition and we carried on with our evening without skipping a beat.

There's really no point in talking about the food here--come to be close to the water and convenient to your next destination.  I don't expect a lot from any of the restaurants in this area, so Atlantic Beer Garden is just fine in my book.

It is what you expect it to be. It's a bar with decent- average bar food, beer, and a few TV's. It's not a bad place to go before a concert at the Pavilion. Easy to get a table, the food was fast, and decent, and the service was good.

As you get closer to the Pavilion the more crowded the bars get, Atlantic Beer Garden is just far enough away that you won't have be mobbed when putting on a good base before seeing the show. Then you can walk the five minutes to the concert.

I went there after a half marathon.  I was so grateful it was so close to the hotel.  The waitress was friendly.  I ordered a buffalo chicken cheese dip.  It was good but it came with a million chips (too many).  I also ordered a burger and could not finish it because it was not good at all.  The floor was sticky which grossed me out.

wow, the place was pretty good at meeting my expectation of the 2.5 star average.

I went last night for a birthday celebration, which is almost a guaranteed good time. Well, it would have been a better time if things below didn't happen:

    1. being at the waterfront - i thought part of the appeal was that it has water front view, well everyone was inside, and the door to the deck was locked, I guess no ocean view for anyone today. If not for the view, waterfront is a b*tch to get to. From Brookline it took me an hour by T, or $20 by cab, or driving and pay $15 for parking.

    2. Cover charge and line - $10 cover, plus 1 hour line if you show up on a Saturday around 10pm. People coming out kept telling the line it's not worth the wait, but we were disbelievers.

    3. The crowd - i was mostly with my friends, but man, girls with tiaras were everywhere, and they are surrounded by their guy friends who came out to celebrate their birthdays or some other special status that earned them tiaras. Oh I am just one of those guys.

anyway, it was all good fun to be there with friends and that special birthday girl. But the whole time I was waiting in the line I was already thinking about going home to write this yelp post, and how much better it is to have be milk and cookies at home.

Our server seemed to be in a pretty bad mood and never really bothered to check in on us. The food was ok, but nothing to write home about. They have a decent selection of bottled beer, but when you have "beer" in the name of your restaurant then you should probably have more than the typical crap on tap.

So with all the negative aspects of this place, why am I giving it 4 stars? Because it was 70 and sunny on the Saturday afternoon that we visited. A waterfront table with beautiful weather can go a long ways towards erasing a bar's faults. Sure, the view isn't exactly stunning. There's a construction site dominating one side and the harbor is more practical than scenic. Plus there's a glass divider with a sign telling patrons not to dive into the water below. As the girlfriend mentioned, they probably wouldn't have a sign there if someone hadn't tried it before. I can picture this place being a real shit show on a Saturday night. Still, a table with a view of the water is a fine way to spend your lunch.

I wouldn't go there for dinner. I wouldn't pay a cover charge to drink there. I wouldn't go on a rainy day. But if you want to enjoy a burger and a Sam Summer with a view of the water then the Atlantic Beer Garden could be a pretty good choice.

Ive visited three times at different times in the week giving this place a chance but I'm not impressed. Overall the beer and drink selection does the trick, the service is hit or miss, the view is great from the back deck, and the food is hit or miss as well.

Ive visited for drinks with friends, great time! I've visited for lunch with my family on a Saturday, overall the tomato basil moz. panini was soggy with unripened tomatoes and your standard fries nothing special. That Saturday the waitress forgot drink orders, forgot creamers for coffee, the staff wait brought over a second set of our orders as it was accidentally written and cooked twice apparently. Both the lunch and dinner visits Ive had the tables were shaky and service took forever, luckily for the dinner visit I ordered a burger with veggies which is hard to mess up. Others were pleased with burgers yet I've heard complaints regarding pasta and wraps.

Dropped by ABG for dinner before a Harpoon Event.  My fiance really liked his burger, and the curly fries tasted exactly like Arby's.  (While I haven't eaten Arby's in ten years, I mean this as a compliment.)  My caprese sandwich was okay, but not "good", per se.  It would have benefited from some pesto, no doubt.

The restaurant was pretty dead (apparently ten degree weather on a Tuesday doesn't encourage people to dine out), so I felt kind of bad for our server.  She was very attentive and nice, but the overall experience didn't impress.

With that said, I'd love to stop by in the summer when the back deck is open.  It has a great view and I think it could be a lot of fun with the right group.

This is a sad place on any day other than a weekend. The waitresses here actually scoff at you...
My friend didn't even finish his burger and the nachos were pretty much just a plate of tortilla chips. We were one fo the only ones there on a Thursday night. You would imagine they could give a tiny bit more attention. No one ever refilled our drink or asked us if we needed anything. The only thing this place has going for is it's proximity to the ICA.

I wrote the review of this place on another website and thought Yelp was the one who needed it. Visited this place in during the summer and...If you are older than 21 RUN!!! Don't look back just run away!!!
Being a Business Traveler i've gone many places of al $$$ ranges. I can find the good and the bad of a place. I always like to be fair......not the case with this place. Extremely loud, food tastes like junk and they seem to care less.
Shame, I came here two years ago and the place was great. Maybe changed administration?? I don't know...but one thing is for sure...will NEVER EVER COME BACK!!

The way I've heard people talk about ABG I thought this place must have something special. I went there last weekend and SPOILER ALERT: It's just a standard bar!

That said, it does have a lot of room to dance, plenty of seating, attentive bartenders, tv's, and mirrors. Who doesn't love a mirror when you are checkin' out your own dance moves? (Plus it helps you make sure you don't drunkenly lose a fake eyelash or shimmy your way into a nip slip.)

Price-wise, drinks are pretty good. My first round was pretty strong, my second wrong not so much. My last round I told the bartender, "make 'em good, it's my last one!" and he sooo did (thank you, dude).

$5 cover kind of a buzz kill *but* I'm sure it keeps people from wandering in and out all the time?

Not bad, not bad at all.

I've been here a few times and haven' taken the time to write a review. It's time.  Their food is bland... especially the burgers... not tasty.

To top of prior not-so-great experiences, the door guy wouldn't let me in last night because apparently he thought I was stumbling on my walk up.  I only had 2 drinks! Never going back here again.

Meh.  You'd think a place calling themselves a beer garden might have a better selection on deck for their taps.  I realize this place caters to a very "dudebro" crowd, given it's location, but it just strikes me as odd that they didn't have one local brew on tap... unless you count Sam Adams, which I don't.

The food is okay.  It's pub food, nothing special.  I had a French dip which was reasonably priced at 10ish, but there wasn't a lot of meat on there, and I've certainly had better for cheaper.

The bar staff were friendly and attentive.  I don't think I waited once for a beer, and they were good about checking in when I had about 1/5 left in my glass, but it wasn't very crowded.  Still, kudos.

Service- slow. I can't really blame them too much though- the place is always jammed with people.

Food- mediocre. Buffalo chicken dip was really good, though, and so were the fries

Beer selection- not great considering that the word "beer" is in the title of the place.

Crowd- mixed. Both times I went before a show @ the Pavilion, so it was earlier in the day. I am 100% positive that this place is not my scene after hours. If you're into Pauly D, this is probably the place for you.

Overall, it's served its function for me- a place to grab a few drinks and some food before a show. I don't think I'd bother to make it my destination for the evening, though. Bonis points for the outdoor patio and roofdeck.

Atlantic Beer Garden is a nice little spot on the water to watch the game or grab a quick drink before heading to some other event but it is nothing spectacular.

I stopped in because I had just gotten to Boston and wanted a quick beer and maybe something to eat.  The beer part was a hit, the eating not so much.  They have an assortment of beers both on tap and in the bottle and are willing to let you sample the different on tap varieties to see if you like it prior to buying a full glass.  Beer prices are reasonable and in line with most other similar locations.

Food in my opinion wasn't so hot, all I had was the chicken fingers because I have a general rule that no place could mess up chicken fingers or tenders, this place might have broken that rule.  The pieces were too thick and chewy to be considered fingers in my eyes.  The breading was light but unfortunately wasn't especially flavorful and what they call honey mustard was a joke.  Their honey mustard sauce was watery and had next to no flavor.

Service was good, nice Southie girl behind the bar treated me well, kept my beers coming and didn't bother me by asking me to hold a credit card to start a tab, she trusted I wouldn't run out on the bill and that is always nice.

They have many TVs most tuned to sports so definitely a place to go with a group and catch (insert team's name) game and have a couple of drinks but not some must do location.

We came here on the 4th of July on a bar hope en route to the Charles. It was hot as hell, but we sat at the rooftop bar. The waitress was slow to bring out drinks which were served in plastic cups. I wasn't expecting this place to be a super classy place, but they could splurge for glasses. The beers/drinks were pricey and small, but the drinks were at least strong. Got hungry only to find that you're not allowed to order food on the roof. What? Shitty cups, shitty view (of like construction, the ICA, and some dirty water) and no food? I would have liked to bounce, but the group wanted to stay, so we ended up getting a table downstairs.

Downstairs they served drinks in real (!) glasses. But that was probably the highlight of the whole experience. The food was mediocre verging on terrible as was the service. I ordered the Cape Cod Sandwich (fried fish sandwich). The tartar sauce was absent. I asked the waitress (who was often absent for long periods of time) for it and waited 10 minutes. I couldn't wait that long so I had begun to eat my tasteless sandwich. The sandwich was expensive for what it was. I will say they did have some decent fries though. We paid with cash and cards. The waitress didn't give us our $10 in change. Had to chase her down. She didn't believe me and spent like 5 minutes adding our bill up over and over on her phone, somehow not understanding that we didn't get our change back...

I didn't expect this place to be amazing. But nothing about it was good (down to the bathrooms which wreaked of piss, didn't lock, and had bugs flying around in them...). If you're on the waterfront, go elsewhere.

Stopped here one afternoon to check out the rooftop bar and loved it! The views of downtown Boston were stunning, and since it was a Tuesday it wasn't too crowded so we were able to snag a table up there. They also had a nice selection of beer, with plenty to choose from.

Did't get to try the food, but would def recommend checking out the rooftop!

I think I'd go here for dinner on the patio or after work drinks on the deck upstairs. That's literally it.

Long lines (when there's no one inside!), $5/cover even at midnight (!?) and over-priced drinks. The music is all your usual top 50 jams, the crowd is people way too dressed up to be at a beer garden, and the "dance floor" is... not a dance floor.

When I hear "beer garden" I don't think bar with good beer selection trying to be a club on the weekends. I think... beer garden. Call me crazy, this place just doesn't do it for me.

My husband and I visited Boston for a few days to see a couple friends. We took a day to wander around the city on our own, and we did a LOT of walking. Somehow we ended up in the Seaport area, and it was windy and cold, so we decided to duck into the first place we saw for some food.

Atlantic Beer Garden was the first place we came to, and so we went in. We ate at the bar, and Stephanie was our bartender. She is hilarious! She had some good suggestions for the rest of our trip. We had a couple burgers for lunch: my husband had a burger with a fried egg on it and he still talks about it. This place is good for standard pub food.

The beer selection seemed pretty good. I had a Guinness, so I didn't get very adventurous with beer. But a decent selection regardless.

I can't comment on the nightlife part of this bar, since we didn't experience it. It's a cool place with lots of tvs, good for watching a game and having a few brews. When we go back to Boston, we'll visit again.

well i was about to write a review and thought i'd read a few first. I happened to be on vacation this past weekend and was in ABG the same night/time as Lauren B (her review is a few down)- her review is complete shit. I was in the same area as her and the bouncer by no means said anything like that to her. After she called him a "shithead asshole" he simply told them they could leave because she was being rude. As for the bartender - drinks took maybe 5 minutes tops. (maybe Lauren had one too many and couldnt remember how long a minute actually takes)

dispite all of that commotion - we had a great time. The waitstaff was very friendly and courteous to my fiance and i. We were even given a complimentary round of drinks because it was our anniversary. We both ordered the fish and it was above what we expected for "bar food".
We have done alot of traveling around the country because my fiance is a photographer. And Boston is one of our favorite places.  ABG had good food, friendly staff, drinks and food were resonably priced - overall a great atmosphere - We'll definitely be returning :)

Nothing beats a Saturday night full of puddles of spilt alcohol on the dance floor, broken glass sprinkled throughout the entire bar, dance floor and bathroom and being so packed you can't move without rubbing your entire body against each person who you need to pass!!!  Both times I was at this bar I was greeted with the same scene.

If you love to watch drunken morons starting fights, digging glass out of your shoes and dancing in puddles of alcohol this is the bar for you!

The only few positive things this bar has going for them are plenty of hot guys, nice staff and great location.
