In the DC area for a few nights and was looking for some live jazz music.  When my husband and I walked in the place is small with two male jazz performers.  The environment was exactly what we were looking for.  Not very busy considering it was a Monday night, but the music was quite enjoyable.  The bar tender served our drinks, but never refilled our water, I had to ask for a refill.  We ordered a dinner to split since we figured it would be large enough considering the price.  After waiting 35 minutes for the chicken and rice dish, we were very disappointed in the size of the meal considering the preparation time.  There was maybe enough chicken to make up two chicken tenders or to fill half the size of your palm.  The rice was probably a cup full.  It was delicious but for the amount of money and  wait time, totally not worth it. Â
I saw the reviews for the macaroni and cheese and was tempted to try it, but considering we waited so long and I was still hungry, we decided to go some place else. Â The bartender seemed more occupied with rearranging the items in his bar than checking on us or our drinks. Â Not good service at all and would not go back for a dinner if I was in the area.
They did have some music downstairs, but we did not check it out. Â In my opinion this could be a really neat place to hang out and enjoy the music, if the service, both food and drink, were better handled. Â Also, there were only two other singles in the bar that ordered a meal, so that gives you an idea of 4 customers. Â The music was the best part of the night.
Black Fox continues to fill the swag notion for upper Dupont. Â A wonderful escape from the artificial neighborhood haunts, its history, charm and cultural vibe through live music and performance art make it a Dupont standout. Â Owner Jim McGlade is the true lifeblood of the lounge and his magic wand of goodtimes will cast its spell on you with a warm smile a kind word and first class service.
Review Source:Black Fox, nice to meet you! I am Kimberly and you will most likely be seeing a lot of me soon.
Besides their live jazz acts the bartenders have are VERY generous pour-ers!
I stopped by last night for a Filipino Young Professionals Meetup and it was the perfect spot for our group of 15 people. Not quite dive bar and not quite cocktail lounge, it had an easy going atmosphere that would please beer drinkers and handcrafted cocktail lovers a like.
I opted for the happy hour Prosecco ($7) but their signature drinks were definitely appealing. I'll be back this summer to sample their Cucumber Bath, made with Hendrick's Gin, Pimm's and Tonic.
A lot of yummy looking things were coming out of the kitchen but because I gave fried food for Lent I had to pass (THREE MORE DAYS).
Thank you Black Fox Lounge for keeping my champagne glass full and my company fabulous.
