So I'm in DC on business and I check in to my hotel on a brutally hot and humid day. Â I'm tired and I definitely don't want to walk far in the killer heat. Â I pull out my trusty Yelp Mobile App and zero in on this place. Â Am I ever glad I did because this is a super little bar with some excellent food.
I waked down a few steps and across the small patio to the icy cool and somewhat dark interior. Â I immediately loved the atmosphere with the darts, pool, shuffleboard and ping pong.
I sat at the bar and was greeted by friendly bartender Jake. Â His customer service skills were great throughout my visit. Â At one point he noticed that my order was a little slow in coming out. Â He apologized, checked with the kitchen and gave me a free drink. Â Nice!
I was there on Taco Tuesday and three tacos were going for $7. Â Lots of folks were enjoying them and they looked great. I perused the menu and the SAUSAGE PLATE for $11.95 caught my eye. Â It included spicy Italian, spicy chicken, lemon & basil chicken, andouille and half smoke sausage and was served with onions, bell peppers and a side of deli mustard. Â When this came out it was beautifully plated on a wooden lazy susan. Â It looked so good that several strangers commented on it. Â Three folks actually got up from their tables and came over to gaze at it and inhale the spicy aromas. Â The good news was it tasted as good as it looked. Â Often plates like this are served cold but in this case everything was hot and delicious. I'd order it again in a heartbeat!
My visit was a true pleasure and was definitely a four star experience.
Hands down the best bar in Glover Park. Now that I have moved across town I find myself constantly missing Breadsoda.
In a nutshell- it is sorta trendy without being pretentious, has a great beer selection at reasonable prices, and friendly bartenders who are willing to provide recommendations, but are far from intrusive.
As far as food- I have only ordered an apologetically overpriced Reese's Cup. However, it was served on a plate with a fork and knife, and smirk from the bartender. Yes, it could have been bought from the Safeway, but so could have the beers. You pay for the atmosphere, and this is a bar where the atmosphere is worth it.
