Classic Georgetown bar--great for first-timers.   Good beer selection--interesting, historic setting.

Went here on my roommates recommendation and I was pleasantly surprised. It's off the main street in Georgetown and has the earmarks of a typical college bar as soon as you descend the stairs and hear the shouting, but the food was phenomenal. It's a very loud environment, especially on a Friday night, so if that's not your scene, you may not feel comfortable here. But if you can enjoy a laid back environment that is kind of loud and want some great food, I highly recommend this place.

4 stars because our service was a little slow, they ran out of supplies to make mojitos, and they came around at 9:30 to stamp hands because of a over-21 policy that they failed to mention when we were seated (I'm just a few months shy of legality). Thankfully they let me finish my meal.

I love the fact that tater tots are a side. You have no idea. I come from the countryside and we love our tater tots. We ordered the fried mozzarella which is REAL fried mozzarella - not the fake Harris Teeter shit they try to feed you at TGI Fridays - and it was great, as was my pulled pork sandwich smothered in smoky BBQ sauce with the tots. We left stuffed and pleased and didn't even have room in our tummies to ask Siri if Georgetown Cupcake was still open.

Definitely a must-go if you're a college student, or if you have a pulse and don't live in a nursing home.

we came w/friends and were put off by the long line of college students going into the bar.  thank goodness that a good portion piled out so we finally made our way down and were able to get a table in less than 1 min.  menu was amenable to any type of eater.  and they were accommodating.  started w/nachos.  had the salad w/crab cake which was delic.  all other folks had an outstanding burger w/well done fries.  we all were very satisfied w/our meals.  the waiter bringing over the food was quite talented.  at one pt he was serving a large table w/ well over 5 dishes running across 1 arm and another dish he was holding in the other hand.  the servers are good as is the food.  I understand why this venerable institution has persevered as long as it has.  the environ is quite reminiscent of college days but also offers decent cuisine which is what keeps it well occupied.  

warning - it's a college area so it's LOUD - u will have to scream a bit to ur party but the food is good.  

and most importantly, we can forget to pay homage to st elmo's fire :)
