After a long day of dragon boat paddling...this is def the spot to sit down and enjoy a great dinner with your team mates. My only complaint (and suggestion): it is hard to find so you better google it and not miss the entrance sign.
They have super friendly waiters who def know how to take care of a large party. I forgot our waiter's name but he quickly got us waters, apetizer order and separated our checks so that we had a speedy check out.
We started with some fresh and sweet oysters. I also had a bit of the crab tower. The crab tower was soo pretty to look at, uniquely made of crab, avocado, and more.
I had the italian sausage penne. It was the perfect amount for one person, lots of meat and I loved the sauce no soo salty and sweet enough that it didn't take over the sweet sausage flavor (if that makes any sense).
And lastly, I had the creme brulee and triple chocolate ganache cake. The winner was the cake-- chocolate heaven!
A great American Bar & Restaurant right in Tysons Corner! I came here and discovered that they had reverse happy hour (10-12pm). They have typical buffalo wings, but the chicken and crab cake sandwiches from the happy hour menu were mediocre. Drinks are kind of over priced, but they do have a decent happy hour menu deals! 50% off all raw items from the bar? Winning!!! If ordering raw oysters on the half shells, you must try the Pemaquids and Raspberry Point oysters. Delish! The bartenders are super friendly and service was great! I tried the Strawberry Basil Lemonade (Sweet, but a creeper!) and The Strawberry Shortcake (My new favorite!) from the cocktail menu. This will definitely be my new happy hour spot!
Review Source:I call this the invisible Clyde's. Seriously, unless you hear about it, you'd never know this Clyde's location exists right in the heart of Tysons. It's tucked away behind some buildings and trees, so you'll likely need a GPS to figure out how to find the little route around Da Domenico to get to it.
Despite making reservations, we got seated a few minutes after that time because the hostess couldn't find anyone to seat us. She ended up finding an older woman in a suit that looked different from what any of the other employees were wearing, so I presume it was the owner or manager. Despite this rough first impression, our server was very good, and the entire experience was enjoyable.
Though drinks are supremely overpriced, entrees are very reasonable, and the variety of options is amazing. It was great to see some of the seasonal and ethnic ingredients being used right now, such as ramps, asparagus and sumac. But the menu did seem a little heavy for springtime and the more healthful tendencies of northern Virginia eaters, featuring quite a bit of deep-fried food and mayonnaise-based options such as potato salad.
Surprisingly, Clyde's smelled a little seafoody inside and featured a decent amount of it on the menu. We ended up going with soft shell crab and crab cakes. Both dishes were delicious.
I really enjoyed the range of options and the special touches Clyde's adds to them, such as the ramp aioli with my crab. But the atmosphere is very run-down inside. What was once obviously a cozy, intimate setting has become a bit worn looking. While the murals on the walls and faux jungle theme lends a certain flair, the dirty, weathered look to the wood paneling on the back wall and elsewhere takes away from the pristine interior you see at other Clyde's locations.
With faster seating and a more modern (or well-done old-school class like at Wildfire) look, Clyde's could find itself in five-star territory.
Went for a late dinner with some of my co-workers. I got the mahi-mahi and strawberry shortcake for dessert. The fish was actually kind of bland, but the texture and tenderness were both perfect (not weird and slimy). The real winners in that dish were the bed of vegetables that the fish was laid on. I don't even know what was there, but it was good.
The strawberry shortcake was also really good, but the plate was kind of watery, and that was kind of gross.
I would give it four stars if the fish was more flavorful and the dessert came out better.
My husband surprised me with dinner here with my best friends for my 30th birthday. I know I can always count on Clyde's for a good meal, and it's a plus that their prices are reasonable, especially in Tyson's, an area full of over-priced restaurants. One thing that I love is the cocktail menu - they change it seasonally and I love going there knowing that I can find a new drink. I also like that they feature local, in-season cuisine and a lot of dishes come with recommended wine pairings. This particular evening, I had the short rib ravioli, which was delicious, and I was also presented with a chocolate dessert for my birthday.
Two things that made the experience less than stellar: the service wasn't particularly great that night. The waitress barely made an appearance, the appetizers took FOREVER to come out, and our dinner dishes literally came out 5 minutes after that. Second, the Tyson's Corner Clyde's could really, really use a facelift. The decor is really starting to look dated.
I know I'll return, though, again, for the cocktails and knowing I can get a good meal and not spend a fortune.
I recently had a hankering for a brunch and took to Yelp! to find the best spot around. Â After looking at a variety of places, we made reservations for brunch at noon on a Sunday. Â
First, reservations were not necssary. Â There was no wait at any point even during what would otherwise be the after church crowd. Â
The food selection was extensive for brunch. Â Not only did they have many brunch options ranging from standards to standards with a twist to choices with Korean fusion. Â I was torn between two of my favorite foods: Shrimp and Grits and Chicken and Waffles. Â I ended up opting for their version of chicken and waffles called Wings and Waffles which includes green onions, bacon, and cheddar cheese in of the waffle batter. Â I'm embarassed to say that I finished every bite of that monster serving which including a beefy loaded waffle and 5 huge chicken wings. Â
Don't judge until you've tried it! Â I dare you not to be licking up the last honey, fat, salty, sweet bite. Â
I think that you've already guessed that we're going to be going back.
I came to this Clyde's recently, after not being here for about 5 years. Â Apparently there is a lively crowd here on a Tuesday. Â Sat by the bar - the bartender was very friendly and attentive - excellent service. Â The food was really just ok - ordered some buffalo wings (which were kinda bland) and the salmon (which was fresh and fine, but the mashed butternut squash lacked any seasoning).
I'm thinking if you stick to a burger and a beer, Clyde's will not disappoint. Â Don't venture too far from there and it's a good time.
Several Clyde's in the area and have always been pleased with this location. Â Have come here for work lunches, celebration dinners, large groups, and normal meals for both lunch and dinner and never had bad service or bad food. Â They even have a magician occasionally on the weekends that is surprisingly entertaining. Â
Prices are reasonable for a nice restaurant, they also have a room you can rent for large occasions like wedding rehearsals or even weddings upstairs. Â Kind of a weird location behind other things in Mclean but a large parking lot when you do find it.
This updated review is for the restaurant. Don't have time to read my full review? Fine. All you need to know is that you shouldn't waste your time on a meal here.
Ambiance is fairly nice even though we all know a real fireplace is always better and should be utilized for restaurant ambiance vs. gas, but whatever.
Alright, on to the food. The main meat of this review. Not one dish was above mediocre.
- The chef who made the Caeser salad is just lazy. For $8 you get romaine lettuce (not cut at all...think pulled straight from the bag and put on a plate) with a mess of dressy and graded parm cheese. Not impressed.
- The scallops were rubbery. Never good.
- The "butternut squash risotto" was the most unimaginative excuse for a dish. I can't believe this one made the menu. The chef made regular risotto and then stuffed maybe 10 pieces of tiny butternut squash in the little risotto cake. Are you serious? You call yourself a professional chef?
- There were a couple other menu items completely sub-par, but you get the picture.
We hadn't been here in a few years for dinner so decided to give it a go again, welp, now we remember why it's been a few years since we've had dinner here.
ABSOULTELY LOVE THIS CLYDES! I am a fan of Clydes in general because their food is delish but this particular Clydes is ALWAYS consistant. They also have a half priced oyster special and great happy hour.
The staff, ESPECIALLY the bartenders are very professional, friendly and knowledgable of the entire menu. I have tried pretty much everything on their menu at some point or another! Their crab cakes are top notch, burgers are juicy and cooked to perfection, mussels and bruchetta appetizers are excellent.
Other items I'd recommend are:
-Crab Tower (appetizer)
-Filet Mignon sliders
-the FAT KID sandwich
-Soft-shell crab dish (it IS seasonal)
-Grilled chicken pita wrap
If you're going to just chill out and have a few drinks with some food, SIT AT THE BAR! Super attentive and relaxed atmosphere. Great beer/wine selection.
The theme is a little strange as there are naked people painted all over the walls, a little odd to look up and see buttcracks as your eating (less visible at the bar!)
3 stars for food and 5 stars for service by Jeff. Â
We got a reservation to enjoy the Maine lobster special. Â We were running late so I called the restaurant to let them know and I was surprised how accommodating they were. Â We were seated near a large group in the corner but that did not curtail the great service we received by Jeff. Â Jeff greeted us quickly after sitting down and already had water for us. Jeff explained what the specials were and pointed out recommendations.
We decided to order a good bottle of French burgundy to go with the lobster. Â Jeff brought the wine and a wine bucket shortly after like clockwork we did not need to ask. Â I'm always impressed by waiters who are one step ahead of the customer!
We ordered our lobster and I asked whether we could subsititute the coleslaw for a salad. Â Jeff said no problem - what kind of salad would you like. Â Excellent!
Our lobster arrived with everything else, butter, bib and claw cracker  It was delicious and we enjoyed every bite.
Jeff ended our dinner with a chocolate molten cake with shaved chocolate pieces and ice cream. Â Very yummy!!!!
BOTTOM LINE: Â If you love lobster - go during the lobster special and ask to sit in Jeff's area. Â He is awesome!!!
The good: table bread with whipped butter.
The bleh: fried green tomatoes with pork belly. The tomatoes were okay but you could barely make out any pork or basil. I liked the medley of halved cherry tomatoes and sweet corn. I would've enjoyed an extra drizzle of the roasted jalapeno aioli. Portions trend consistently generously, but not good enough to order again.
The ugly: wild Chesapeake Bay catfish took cornmeal crusting to an extravagant level. A solid two inches at both ends of the fillet were inedible. The conservative dollop of ranchero sauce was so mild that it seemed more like a mild marinara. No complaints about the sauteed squash and zucchini. This southern chickadee was disappointed by the bacon-cheddar grits; not terrible but hardly any bacon bits and rather light on the cheese.
Tucked along an access road, there's a decent amount of parking in the attached lot, interspersed with foliage adorned in LED rope lights. Spacious leather couch in the waiting area. Fratty/local demographic from the bar island to the outdoor patio area. White collar drunks calling a woman Betty White as she shuffled through the revolving door. If not for the great service from the seating host to the server and busboys, I would be rounding down to one star.
We were hoping to get some eats at Da Domenico, but it was closed; so, we ended up turning the car around and pulling into Clyde's. Like another reviewer said before me, this place is in need of some updating when it comes to the interior.
We were seated in a booth promptly and the server came by to take our drink order. We ordered a Bloody Mary and a Mimosa. Both drinks were rather good, so thumbs up to the bartender. The server while pleasant, seemed rushed and a bit stressed out. She didn't really mention any of the specials or make any suggestions.
It was near lunch time, so we had the option of ordering off the brunch or lunch menus. My wife ordered the Reuben Sandwich platter and I ordered the Corned Beef Hash that was accompanied with eggs-over-easy and toast. The food took a little longer than expected, but I wasn't in a rush so no matter. I soon realized that the family sitting next to us was constantly peppering the server with questions and monopolizing her time, so I guess that's why she appeared a bit flustered.
The food in my opinion is just okay. I mean, nothing to rave about here. I think they could up the menu a bit with some creative dishes other than the standards of sandwiches, fries, etc. Overall, an average experience and I probably wouldn't come back.
Strange, very strange. The stand alone building is located behind Leesburg Pike. As we drive up to the building, we noticed a lot of loitering in front of the building. Turns out, it's all the smokers, customers and employees. I just find it strange that the first glimpse we got of the restaurant was nicotine addicts puffing away on the front stoop.
The interior of the restaurant is definitely in need of some renovations. The atmosphere just felt so strange.
The food was mediocre. I had the fillet mignon sliders with friend onion rings and jalapenos. It was OK. Husband had the crab cakes. The crab tasted fresh and the corn salsa on the side was tasty.
Over all, my experience here was not memorable and I will probably not go back. There are much better options in the area.
This place is rustic from the outside. There is a bar inside to which you walk up a couple of steps and its also partially glass encased depending on which side you sit. The walls in the dining area have Naked women...YAY...and for sure a convo starter.
I have been to this establishment twice. The first time in a group setting for lunch and I really dont remember what I ate but I do remember the experience as a nice outing. I just went to lunch around 2pm looking for some crab cakes. I headed to Clydes as I heard of their special two lump crab cakes special. I arrived to half empty bar and restaurant. YAY...
Mike is the bartender and he's a very cool guy. There are locals that come in and Mike knows them by name. For me he made sure he said my name each time we spoke. I thought that was cool. Â Im not good with names and I was quick to look at the receipt which had his name on it. That way it kind of seemed like we knew each other.
The crab cake was str8 up tasty...not the best crab cake I've had but it was very lump lightly seasoned and no filler. It comes with corn and tomato salsa yummy and with 3 slabs of potatoe wedges. That meal did the trick as I was very hungry at this point. The deal was 2 lump crab cakes for 20 bucks....NOT BAD...the size was half of a coffee mug...the best I can think of. So pretty thick and sweet tasting. I chugged a nnice cold heineken in a spiffy glass to level it all out. I will only go for lunch at work. I dont live in Tysons but I work there so I maybe back but there are alot of options. I guess Im still searching for the best crab cake in Tysons Corner. So far its been Legal Seafood, Cheesecake factory and now Clydes...Not sure who is winning but Legal is not in the running they need more flavor.
I'd call this place more old-fashioned than old-school. I love all things retro, but this place just feels dated.
I'm no heavyweight drinker, but I had three old-fashioneds in the space of an hour and didn't feel a thing.
I still haven't really found a place in this neighborhood that I love to go to for late night food and a decent drink, but I'll tell you this - it ain't gonna be Clyde's!
I arrived a little earlier than my lunch date. I was not offered a table, but did not mind so much because they have a nice waiting area with a menu pleasantly displayed on the table. This is a good thing since I have a hard time making up my mind.
I ordered the Chicken Piccata, which was served with mashed potatoes. I thought that was a little odd and actually inquired as to subbing the potatoes for pasta. Not liking the alternative I opted to stay with the potatoes. My lunch date ordered the salmon salad, and asked for more dressing.
The food was just OK - the service was outstanding. Â Our waiter was very attentive, and eager to please. My lunch date guessed correctly that he was Irish and he seemed to enjoy the attention.
The menu was lovely and I will return to try some of the seafood; mussels, oysters and soft shell.
I've been to most of the Clyde's locations but this was my first time coming to this one. Â I read the previous reviews and the decor really is a bit strange and definitely outdated. Â
We went to eat fairly late, 10pm and we were able to order off the late happy hour menu which included 50% off the raw bar. Â We got a mixture of a dozen oysters which were all fresh and delicious. Â Then ordered the chili which was too BBQ-y for my taste. Â Finally ordered the double soft shell crabs which were cooked perfectly. Â I didn't really care for the soggy asparagus or the potato cake but I would definitely come back for some oysters and soft shell crabs.
Our server was attentive and provided great service, but I've never had a bad experience at a Clyde's before. Â Afterwards, we did go to the bar for some drinks and the bartender was too busy talking to other customers to close us out so I found that a bit annoying but other than that, the whole experience was great.
I went here one day after work for a going away/happy hour.
This place is old school.
Some people are not fans of old school, but I like old school. Old decor. Old, wooden bars, tables, brass railing.
No school like the old school.
All I had was the clam chowder, a beer or two, and I feel like I might have eaten some wings too. The beer was beer. It was cold and not skunked, can't ask for more than that. The clam chowder was delicious. No complaints there.
The service was good. We sat in this open sort of sun room with trees in it and naked people painted on the walls. Interesting... it made conversation starting easier.
I have no major complaints with Clyde's. In fact, I would give it five stars if it were just a bit cheaper. It's not terribly expensive, but I don't find it to be that amazing for the price.
Either way, I recommend it overall. At least, it's not a bad place to get some drinks with coworkers or something.
I met my friend/date here after work one night. The parking lot was packed, but I eventually found a spot.
The hostess was terrible. I asked her if a spot at the bar was open (it kind of looked like there were some plates or soemthing there), and she said that she didn't know and I'd have to ask the bartender. Great service. I asked if there was a booth available, and she said I'd have to wait a little while.
The manager pretty much appeared out of nowhere and then was super nice. I asked him if there was a booth, and he immediately took me to one and was really really awesome.
Brad then showed up and we had a few drinks while we looked over the menu. Very extensive oyster menu so we ordered oysters and crabcakes.
Everything was really great. The oysters were very salty though.
Service was EXCELLENT. Our server was really nice and pretty and kept Brad happy (which I appreciated as it took the pressure off of me to be pretty and entertaining. Yea!)
I will never be back at to this location because 1) The location sucks 2) It's impossible to find and the road construction is a pain in the ass and pissed the shit out of me 3) Parking is a nightmare 4) the food and ambience are not worth the pretty hefty price tag. 100 bucks for some oysters, a crab cake, and few beers (well, maybe we had more than that). :)
Better places to go. But for a guys place to hang, the bar was packed with very loud drink guys. It kind of annoyed me, but Brad kept looking over there wistfully. :) Next time.
Take the name "Clyde's" off the front door this place was left behind in 1984. At least that's the way we felt when we stepped inside. It was a feeling that continued throughout our weekend afternoon brunch at Clyde's in Tyson's Corner. I'm writing this a week later after seriously thinking I'd be calling or writing the manager. But my slackness leads me to Yelp the experience instead.
We'd had dinner at Clyde's Gallery place before the Caps game the night before and were pleasantly surprised at the food they turned out while deeply in the weeds from the pre-game rush. It was my husband's birthday and we thought we'd repeat the experience on our way to some other activities. Clyde's in Tyson's was 180 degrees from Gallery Place in every way. When we stepped into the tired, un-updated lobby it felt like a funeral home but I didn't know why. We were taken to a booth and when I surveyed the dining room I saw lots of seniors who'd probably formed an attachment to Clyde's during its heyday, loooong ago. The waitress from an Eastern bloc country laughed when I asked about the salad I'd had the day before and said, "Vee have beet salad." Really, she did.
I ordered a Mimosa and a steak salad. The mimosa was essentially orange juice with a long-flat champagne air in a small, old wine glass. We went to the restroom. I was carrying a baby so I took the elevator, which was completely filled with high chairs. Holy ADA-violations, Batman!
Downstairs in the deep, dark bowels of the restaurant, things didn't get any better. The bathrooms were ancient (Oh! But a Dyson hand dryer proves it's been modernized!) and a large chair blocked the entrance to the handicapped stall. (Seriously, what do they have against people with disabilities?) We weren't using it though, we were headed to the changing station. We returned to the lobby and I realized why it felt like a funeral parlor. Someone had set out a giant bouquet of stargazer lilies in an attempt to make the place feel alive.
I returned to the table where our meal was waiting. My steak had been sliced and then grilled which resulted in six or eat little strips of jerky lying on a bed of greens. By this point the meal was completely lackluster. I couldn't even stick it out to have birthday dessert for my husband (who hates dessert anyway, I'm not a monster, we had cake later). We headed to the car and stuck hubby with the check.
Seriously, the Clyde's restaurant group has given this outlet a long dirt nap. I wouldn't go back until I saw new construction.
Basic American burgers and salad offerings, in a nice roomy restaurant, right by all the various Tyson's offices. Â Service is pretty fast and the food is generous (ugh, food coma with 4 hours left in the day is torturous), and the prices decent.
Heard good things about the happy hour (evidently the bartender slings out the drinkipoos fast and heavy), but have not yet attended a happy hour there yet - so far, only working lunches.
Hilariously, it's clear that everyone who comes here to eat at lunch is a nice corporate office slave...yet, they come to this restaurant which does tend to have some...questionable art hanging on the walls. Â Heh.
Still, a good little spot to grab some food with coworkers during lunch. Â There is even outdoors seating so we can even pretend that we're free and having a nice luxurious afternoon meal, and not a quick scarf-down-thta-sammie-while-talking-about-end-to-Âend-process-flows-that-will-ive-anyone-indigestionÂ.
Clyde's is great for a happy hour dinner, but bad for happy hour drinks. Â Their happy hour food menu is fantastic. Â You can get a full size dinner for $6 (or $8 if you choose the crab cake sandwich), with tasty and good quality food. Â I've tried most of the items on this menu: The burger, crab dip, crab cake sandwich, and chicken sandwich are really good. Â Do not get the buffalo wings; they're disappointing.
The drink specials are confusing, change frequently, are often not posted anywhere, and usually aren't a very good deal. Â For example, for a while they had two happy hours per night with different pricing at each. Â When I returned the following week, my friends and I ordered drinks under the assumption that the same happy hour prices were in place, but we weren't informed of the new happy hour prices until our bill came, and they weren't written anywhere!
The crowd there is definitely older and professional, definitely not rowdy, which is a plus for me.
They have an epic trivia game on Tuesday nights at the bar area (not the one when you first walk in, but the bar on the left side of the restaurant), and by that I mean it's really really long and complicated, which can be good or bad. Â The guy who runs the trivia is nice and very understanding of newcomers. Â If I didn't have to go to work on Wednesday mornings, I would probably go to trivia every week, but it starts at 7, and often lasts until 10 or later at night. Â The prizes are generous; the top two or three teams each week get a gift certificate to the restaurant, and if you're not in the top teams, you get to choose one of the categories for the following week.
So today I met up with some friends for an early HH (happy hour) at Clydes in Vienna. First off, this place is so hard to find! My GPS kept telling me to go somewhere then make a U-Turn. It took me an extra 10 minutes to find this place coming from Leesburg Pike. Oh well..finally found it after burning some very expensive gas.
We get there and there's 50% off oysters! I love oysters! They have 4 different varieties so we tried all 4..twice :P They were delicious albeit a tad on the small side.
I ordered the Chicken#1 sandwich and the others ordered the crab cake and cod. All were pretty good. The Cod was a bit on the bland side but the crab cake was 95% crab and only 5% filler. They are known for their seafood. They were having a special on lobster and everyone around us got lobster...maybe next time.
We didn't actually get any drinks. They don't have drink specials. I'm not sure if it was that they didn't have them at all or just on weekends. So that is a bit of a bummer.
The atmosphere was a casual elegance and the murals on the wall are gorgeous.. a bit risque. There is a beautiful fountain and trees on the right side of the restaurant and we saw a group of prom goers getting dinner there.
The prices were great! Especially if you go and order from 4-6p the whole check is 20% off!!!!
So it's a nice place to take clients or other work related people but that's about it. I'd go to again but nothing to write home about. The dessert was good but not amazing. (rhubarb& strawberry crisp and creme brulee)
The kitchen at Clyde's was out of  rocks and dirt so they made do with dangerous little wood chips, sprinkling them generously inside my Stuffed Acorn Squash ($11.50), and relied on inordinate amounts of hot peppers to make my brother's pasta inedible. The good news is they handle the most complex custom orders well, cleverly understanding my request for dressing on the side was code for "please drown the salad in Blue Cheese." Â
Service was friendly but lost. Between poor menu knowledge and inordinate delays in bringing out both bread and entrees there is clearly a training manager in need of a good rap on the head.
On the positive side, the restaurant features some voluptuous nude paintings. I thought this might present some excellent educational moments for my three nephews, aged 4-8 (hey... how are kids supposed to learn?) but their parents didn't view it that way. Also, the child meal of macaroni was fine, and their cheeseburgers got rave reviews.
So near yet so far: Clyde's comes close to being good, even excellent. Minus the wood chips and slip of the red pepper shaker food was actually pretty good. Â At $10-20 an entree prices aren't unreasonable and, depending on your view of naked women (female is my favorite gender, so I'm all for them) the restaurant is well decorated and comfortable.
My guess: The big problem is that Clyde's is a chain and either no one at that branch has the power to make changes, or is invested enough to do much more than the minimum prescribed in the manual.
Acorn curry squash- to die for. A+
Clydes desserts are usually not that good. Only exception I know of there that is worth getting there: frozen sorbet which is awesome and refreshing.
If you like gazing at enormous murals of completely naked ladies in suggestive poses while you dine, this is the place for you. I didn't mind them at all - I liked all the decor in fact- but the naked lady murals did get a few raised eyebrows from some of conservatives we were sitting with
Location- awful to get to right now due to Rte. 7 construction. Its a wonder they still get so much business!
I was skeptical about this particular Clyde's location because it looks so outdated from the outside. Â It almost doesn't even look like it's open, and there are very few windows. Â I've been to a happy hour here but recently went for lunch. Â Prices were much more reasonable than I was expecting and the interior was sufficiently nice without feeling fancy. Â A good atmosphere for a work lunch.
They had a crabcake special and I went for the two crabcakes with grilled asparagus and "Tom's Potatoes" (who the heck is Tom??) for $18.95. Â Not a bad deal. Â Crabcakes were pretty good, and I really enjoyed the mustard aioli it was served with. Â We also got some decent sourdough bread to go along with the meal.
Service was also especially quick and friendly. Â It felt like there tons of staff members running around making sure all diners' needs were taken care of. Â It can get pretty busy here during lunch so the prompt service was much appreciated.
So a good amount of very decent food and it didn't break the bank. Â I won't return on a regular basis, but for lunch in the area that isn't a carry-out Subway order and not a drawn out sitdown meal at a high-end steakhouse, Clyde's is a pretty good option.
I have come to appreciate Clyde's ability to always have a menu I love (it changes with the seasons) and to provide great service.
My husband & I visited on Sunday and sat next to a gas fireplace...Though the nude-y murals are outdated and little too risque for my tastes, the fireplace made the atmosphere very enjoyable...it was quite a chilly day.
As usual for Sunday brunch, we were served Clyde's coffee crumb cake....Dry, dry, dry....and tasted stale...it obviously had been sitting out, exposed to the air for some time. Â We had the Ahi Tuna Bucket & Cheese sampler to start. Â Cheese sampler - I would have appreciated an explanation of what cheese were which and more raisin bread was needed. Â The Ahi Tuna Bucket was very flavorful and unique in that the raw tuna was diced. Â I would have prefered cutlets of tuna but it was still good.
I ordered the Roast Portobello Sandwich with a house salad. Â Very yummy...the mozzarella, the bread, yum, yum, yum....My husband ordered the Wagyu beef sandwich - similar to a french dip in the way it was served. Â He said it was tasty & tender, however, the beef was cooked through and I would have recommended having it cooking to a medium to maintain juiciness. Â He chose a caesar salad as his side. Â The caesar dressing was quite bland but the croutons, delish!
Though this was a mixed review, I've had so many great experiences, thus the score of 4 stars.
This is really 2.5 stars - I can't bring myself to 3 star it though. Perhaps on a re-visit, if there ever is one I could!
We visited for valentines day, less of our first choice but still a good option - we've enjoyed our experiences at Clyde's - Willow Creek, and Clyde's Reston very much in the past. And we understand Valentine's day is traditionally a busy night for restaurants.
Atmosphere: The place is rockin' -- the sort of art deco mixed with naked women in pictures/sculptures thing really works, and everyone is dressed accordingly. The bathrooms (at least the ladies room) are even staffed - don't forget to bring a dollar when you go!
Waitstaff: We waited initially about 5-7 minutes for our drinks - not amazingly long, but not a great start. Our drink order was attended to as well by someone who obviously noticed that we had no drinks, rather than by our actual waiter. If only she had taken care of us the rest of the night.
Our waiter showed up a few minutes later, took our order noticed we had drinks and almost left - we had to call him back to get our appetizer order. And after we got our food, we did not see him again (not even to stop by to ask how our food was, or to refill our drinks) at our table for almost an hour. However, the table of young girls behind us saw him many a time. What kind of waiter walks by a table they're caring for and doesn't even check in if it's been a while!? Drink refills were done eventually, but by someone who wasn't him.
We got coffee and he forgot cream, so when we asked for it he disappeared for long enough that the coffee was cold when we flagged down someone else and got it. He couldn't have cared less either - I don't even think he knew he wasn't being a great waiter.
Food: It was what I expected from Clyde's -- good, tasty, with a unique edge. I had the cheese tortellini with crab, lobster and shrimp. Yum! We also had the calamari for starters, and the brownie Sunday for dessert. All excellent. Our drinks from the bar were also quite well made.
The lack of quality waitstaff was enough for me to knock down what would have been 4 stars to 2.5. So it could change based on a second chance, but he was bad enough that we won't be going back anytime soon.
A few months ago I would have given this place 5 stars just on the basis of their bleu cheeseburger. It was absolutely delicious. My friends and I went there many times just for those bleu cheeseburgers. The last time we went in, though, we ordered them medium, like we always do, and they came out ridiculously bloody. My friends and I were so grossed out. I love rare steak, but I can't eat bloody hamburgers.
I pointed it out to my server who didn't seem to know what medium looks like and said she'd ask the chef. I was annoyed since it was so obviously undercooked, but we waited. I guess our displeasure wasn't good enough. The chef had to argue his case or something. We were kind of in a hurry and wanted her to just bring us a burger cooked like we requested. She came back and defiantly said "the chef said that's how we always cook them for medium." I said, "well, I come here often for burgers and always get them medium. This isn't even close to what they normally look like. It's not even pink inside, it's red and cool and there's a ton of red liquid pooling in the plate." Â She still wouldn't budge! I was so disappointed in this crappy customer service.
Honestly, I'm not that picky and if it'd have even been medium rare I'd have just eaten it. I very rarely send food back. I'm the type who will just leave it uneaten. But this was so blatantly undercooked--red and raw inside and inedible--I didn't think it'd be a big deal to ask them to fix it. The waitress seemed clueless about it, then the chef stood his ground and the waitress seemed emboldened by the chef's defiance. I guess at Clyde's you're supposed to just take what you get and shut up.
Anyway, we finally just said forget it and ate the french fries, which were stained pink from all the red "juice" so that grossed me out. They never took the burgers off our bill or even discounted it, they never comped us for a drink or anything. They may have offered free dessert, but we had wasted so much time on the burger issue we didn't have time to spare. We left. Haven't been back since. Loyal customers, squandered.
I'm giving them 2 stars just because their other food is still good, like the french onion soup and the fried calamari.
Overall not a bad place for finding drunk yuppies and a host of Booz Allen Consultants at lunch. Â This place is always a good spot to go for a solid steak salad and a tangy bowl of chili. Â The food changes up quite a bit - the menu rarely will keep an item on there beyond a couple of seasons. Â Needless to say I've not been disappointed with any of my menu choices at this place.
Duke at the bar is a pretty good dude - remembers your beer and never gives you an issue when it comes to transferring your tab onto someone else's corporate card (with their permission, of course). Â I've been in some bars where the guy acted like I just took a dump on the bar upon asking the request.
The naked folks on the wall....well, this place's murals leave you wondering a bit. Â The women on the wall apparently haven't discovered Brazilian waxes yet and thankfully there aren't men running around in their scholngful glory. Â I can't wait to hear what my wife says when I take her here for the first time. Â But at least she'll like the food, right?
On my list of chains that one must go to for mid-priced business lunches, Clyde's is near the top.
I like that the menu changes seasonally, and that each location has a different decor. Â This location's decor is not my favorite, but I appreciate the uniqueness combined with myriad un-scary menu options appropriate for timid co-workers. Â There is usually at least one un-boring menu option appropriate for Yelpers: duck Chile rellenos, autumn vegetable strudel.
the chicken wings are delicious, and a few of the entrees are good, but I have liked the meals I've had at the Reston and Chinatown/Gallery Place locations better (buffalo chicken sandwich in Reston and squash ravioli with lobster in D.C.).
The decor is a little weird. Â There are murals of naked people everywhere. Â I suppose its art, but I don't really care to look at naked people while I eat.
They have a valet service that is completely unnecessary; there are always spots in the lot right in front of the door.
With venues for large party receptions, this is a first class adult restaurant. Alright, you can take the kids too - but be forewarned, the murals depict nude greek women! (GASP!)
Seriously, the food has always been excellent and I highly recommend the smoked chicken samosas (akin to a fried chicken wonton) with a heavenly champagne dipping sauce. Talk about a mouth-orgasm! (Oops, my bad... cover the kiddies eyes!) Also they are one of the few places that can do a proper Hot Steak lettuce salad. Yes, hot strip steak, cooked to order and placed on a cold lettuce salad with an excellent dressing.
Sunday brunches are also served, and reservations are HIGHLY recommended!
Oh, georgeous restrooms are downstairs and they have a coat room to check your outer garments.
It's not cheap, but it's not cheap food either. Great for a first date, or wanting to make an impression with clients. Bar is fully stocked and the local lawyer crowd wanders in to the fully stocked bar after work at around 3:30pm. Some stay and have food at the bar, which is the same menu as the tables.
All in all, an excellent bet.
Oh, they also do wedding receptions and large parties as part of the local Clyde's restaurant chain... and for some of the high rollers in the area. So you'll often see a stretch limo or two outside. Food selection for parties is very similar to the menu, and of excellent quality.
I don't know how this Clyde's compares to the other ones in town, but I was unimpressed with my dining experience there. Â I have to give this place props for their ambiance - a Roaring 20s feel with Art-Deco decor, bartenders dressed in white shirts with black suspenders and bow ties, and the wait staff in their crisp black and white uniforms. Â
Service was overall spotty. Drinks were well-made yet it took a while to get the bartender's attention to both order and pay for my Vodka Collins. Â The wait staff, on the other hand, was very attentive. Â My water glass was never empty and my dirty plates were cleared from the table right away. Â For the service and ambiance I was expecting a hefty dinner tab, but the prices of the drinks and food were very reasonable.
Food was well-priced, yet quality was good onthe borderline of mediocre. Â I had the roasted half chicken that was well-seasoned with a mushroom port sauce and well-seasoned mashed potatoes and green beans. Â My fiance's lamb shank was bland. Â The overall selection was mediocre and didn't hit me as impressive or even appetizing.
Seems like a good place for "upper-class mediocrity" but for your money you can find better choices.
