For a chain sandwich shop/bakery, this is about as good as you're going to get. We split one of their turkey sandwiches, and it was excellent, as was my banana/strawberry smoothy. Since we arrived during the lunch rush it was crowded, but the service was still fairly fast, and the staff was very friendly.
Review Source:Worst Corner Bakery ever!!! Â I used to be a regular, but often the order was wrong, service very slow. Â The worst is the counter service. Â I stopped going there after I walked up to the counter one day, the only customer there, with three workers behind the counter, all of whom ignored me. Â When I said "May I order?", they continued to ignore me for another minute, obviously deliberately. Â Finally one walked up "What do you want?", took my order, barely civil. Â I waited for it to come out, and then asked for the manager, saying never again. Â
Now over a year later I made the mistake of going back. Â The exact same thing! Â Four people behind the counter this time, all pretending I wasn't there. Â When I spoke to one of them, she said, "You have to order down there", indicating the other end of the counter, where a group of three more workers stood chatting with a customer (the only other customer there). Â When I started toward them a different worker (one of the four, total present seven!) stepped up, "What do you want?" (What a nice greeting!), took my order with zero courtesy. Â I got my order, left, and when I opened it up, the order was wrong! Â Shame on me!
One star is too generous for this Corner Bakery location! Â I really like the Cobb salad and my loaded baked potato soup Wednesday through Friday, but the service at this location is ridiculously bad. Â I have dined in the store once, gotten orders to-go twice and attempted to call ahead one time. Â Each time resulted in poor experiences with customer service.
On one occasion, a person who previously paid for her to-go order left without it after waiting more than 15 mins for the food. Â I had to wait as long afterward for a salad at close to 2pm. Â On another occasion I was asked to step toward a register only to be completely ignored once I arrived because the young lady behind the register was too busy taking an order from another employee. Â The last straw was my latest attempt to call ahead to pick up a salad. Â Although the phone was answered quickly, I was left on hold for an inordinate period of time without any update or return. Â Eventually I just hung up and ate somewhere else.
This location will not get my money again! Â This store services a lot of tourists, but would do well to listen to the returning customers. Â Shape up or more will find alternatives as I have done.
As time goes by I'm becoming less and less a fan of this Corner Bakery. I started going here at least once a week back in November and I was a fan. Service is good and the people who bring your food out are very friendly. As the weather got warmer more and more tourists come out and the place is getting a little worse for wear. Now when I come here it's always packed and the tables that are available are rarely clean. Also I feel like my salad is just getting sadder and sadder looking. I'm sticking with State Street Bread Co for now. A little more money but the salads look prettier and the restaurant is way more manageable without the hordes of tourists. I'll return to Corner with the winter months and hopefully things will get better.
Review Source:While visiting downtown Chicago to do some photography, I debated going here or to Starbucks. Â I'm glad I chose here! Â
I was searching for somewhere to get some breakfast and charge up my phone, while people watching out the window.
At about 10am there was no line and I ordered the baked french toast, bacon, and scrabbled eggs. Â I ordered Orange Juice, which they ran out of, but they gave me a free bottled water instead which made up for it.
The baked french toast was good. Â The bacon was cooked perfectly. Â Not too burnt and crispy, but not too flimsy. Â And the scrambled eggs were great! Â Normally I hate ordering scrambled eggs while going out because they either are watery and runny or they are hard and overcooked. Â These were light and fluffy!
I absolutely LOVE their french toast breakfast.....we travel from Michigan, and I usually have to have my fix at least twice while we're in town.
They are a bit on the pricey side, but breakfast with a yogurt and granola will usually take me through until dinner. Â Of course their lemon bars, and salads are good as well. Â I like this location as we've always had great service and the portions have been consistent. Â We've tried other locations, and I'm telling you, I think the halved the french toast size.....NOT NICE!..
I am a sucker for good pastry - and good coffee. Â
This place is bustling in the morning - but they run an efficient business!
Try the bagels/muffins or croissants - you won't be disappointed. Â
The pretzel bread is so good .... (almost too good) - so if you decide to do lunch, make sure to try it.
quick, easy, and consistent. i'm from LA so there arent that many corner bakeries like here in chicago.. its like a starbucks, one on every other corner (that and dunkin donuts).
My faves:
+chicken tortilla soup
+uptown turkey on pretzel bread (who doesnt love pretzel bread?)
+chopped salad
I am really fat and this Corner Bakery is the reason why!! I'm convinced that my purpose in life is to eat the Corner Bakery banana muffin. The top of the muffin, with its hard shell, overflows from the base and is usually accented by a slice or two of real banana. The bottom is soft, almost creamy and delicious. The banana muffin is the perfect start for my day... except when I order the Commuter Croissant. Hippie kids who want to satisfy a severe case of the munchies, take note, forgo the typical household goodies such as Twinkies and Ho Hos and try one of these puppies. The feast includes a large butter croissant, stuffed with a fluffy omelet filled with cooked tomatoes and cheddar cheese, topped with some slices of bacon. I reserve the Commuter Croissant for Fridays when the office pace is a bit slower. I used to work at an office where someone would bring in a Corner Bakery bundt cake every week -- those things are lethal. I also like the pasta dishes at Corner Bakery but actually dislike the sandwiches. To me, a proper sandwich has more filling than bread. At Corner Bakery, the sandwich is almost all bread. Another bummer at CB is the coffee -- what's up with this stuff? It is easily the worst coffee in the Loop. My recommendation here is to pick up a banana muffin or the Commuter Croissant on your way into work but grab your coffee elsewhere.
Review Source:I work next door and this is a good place to get a quick lunch to go. Â The cashiers are friendly and quick. Food comes out quickly. Â It can get packed at lunch time but usually I can be back in my office in about 10 min. I especially like the chicken noodle soup and uptown turkey sandwich. Â I've also had a few salads and those are good too. Â I've looked at the nutritional info and these are pretty reasonable and far as calories and fat go so... I'll keep coming here for good lunches!
Review Source:Perfect place to duck in and grab a tea and bagel with a schmear when you are on the run. When I am feeling particularly naughty I order a slice of cake or a couple of their crisps. God help me I love their crisps and could literally eat my body weight in those suckers.
Their swiss oatmeal is a hearty breakfast and I feel like I am being healthy when I eat it. Its chock fulll of apples, bananas, currants, raisins, and muslei. A good deal for under $3 in the loop.
