Service was great, food... tasteless. Â Our whole group was underwhelmed.. Â I was looking forward to our visit to this restaurant/gastropub and unfortunately, won't be running back. Â
What does it say about Denver when Westward rates these 'Mac n Cheese' fries as one of the best dishes in town?! Â Fries were generic, freeze dried type french fries and the cheese... Â reminded me of powdered mac n cheese stuff. Â Disappointing.. especially after all the hype.
This place having 4-stars reduces my trust in Denver Yelpers, because this was just. Â plain. awful.
Jonesy's...I really wish I could rave mad things about the food because I really enjoyed my overall dining experience.
So, this is a funky little restaurant with very cool, friendly wait staff. We moved tables 3 times d/t being uncomfortable under the blaze of the sun on the patio. We ended up inside with the A/c.
For dinner, we started off with the famous fries. Got a split order of truffle fries and the thai chili garlic fries. They pull it off really well. The fries are kind of McD's style...thin and crispy. The truffle fries are loaded with truffly (is that a word?) flavor. The thai flavored fries had a good kickin' and quite tasty as well. They had the sweet chili sauce (probably something you'd find at the Asian market), cilantro, minced ginger, and scallions. Who would have thought about this going on fries? Apparently Jonesy. These were pretty addicting.
I ordered the cheeseburger sliders. Now, this is the main reason I"m only giving 3 stars...For a place that specializes in fries, you should be able to do burgers pretty well, no? They were pink in the middle but very dry. The buns were also not warm, seemed like they sat out for a while before bringing them to me. The cheese they put on it was shredded, which I thought was odd. Why not just use a slice? Eh, whatevs. I had to order ketchup and mayo to be able to eat them.
My friend ordered the mussels ...I believe they were the Malaysian mussels. Wow, I had a taste of the sauce and it was to die for! Spicy, sweet, salty, all this goodness in just the sauce. I'd go back and just get a plate of that instead of burgers.
And of course, I had a cocktail (or 2- hey I was on vacation). I got a Shanghai Mule, cousin of my all-time favorite, the Moscow Mule. I've never had a cocktail with a drinking vinegar...I admit I was skeptical about drinking vinegar, but this was done quite well. You definitely taste the vinegar, but you get it more in the finish of the sip rather than at the forefront. It was sooo good and sooo refreshing. It was served in a little glass, not the copper cup, but I would totally go back and order this again.
If I could I'd give 3.5 stars. I'll be back here just for the Shanghai Mule! Yes, it's THAT good.
Overall: AWESOME. I had the mushroom pasta and I wish I was still eating it right now . But, I have to admit that I disagree with pretty much the world apparently on the "Best dish in Denver" fries (the bacon mac n cheese fries). I thought the cheese could have been better and it definitely needed more bacon. Service was fantastic though!
