I didn't actually spend much time here, I just went for about 10 mins to see the view and pricing because I wanted to throw my birthday here last month.
It was nice but after a bunch of miscommunication, it made me have a whole different prospective.
I wanted to have a group of people at the pool area to just hang out, have a few drinks and appetizers.
They told me if I have 20+ people coming, the group bill has to be a minimum of $2,100 and if I had a group less than 19, we'll be fine.
I definitely did not want to spend that much as a group so I had to invite fewer people than expected but thought it was okay and it'll be worth it.
I emailed to confirmed a group of 11-15 people 2 weeks before my birthday and I didn't get a confirmation form until the day before the party was going to happen.
Come to find out that I can't have the pool area for more than 3 hours (I wanted it for 6) and for a group of 11-15 people, everyone had to have a bill with a minimum of $60 which I found ridiculous. Â
Not all of my friends drink and not all were going to eat. Majority of people just wanted to hang out and enjoy the pool (mind you, the pool is the tiniest thing ever) so not everyone was going to have a bill of $60.
The miscommunication and lack of professionalism was way too much for me so I cancelled my reservation and had to find somewhere else to throw my birthday last minute.
It was very frustrating but there are way too many great rooftop pool/bar areas in the city to even cry over this one.
Won't do business here... Ever.
Very very nice rooftop bar! I came here for a magazine launch party and the view was incredible; not to mention there is a pool on the rooftop, how cool is that! It's spacious with two bars available, and outdoor seating next to the pool was lovely designed. The drinks were ok, nothing too particular I can comment about. Would def come back again just for the ambience!
Review Source:I would just like to express my extreme frustration with this place. The first time I went I had made a reservation at the pool rooftop and was demoted to the first floor restaurant because they had made a mistake. Not only did we sit in there by ourselves but the food was bland, the margaritas were pretty bad and it was way overpriced for very normal Mexican food (I'm Mexican). When I complained to the manager about the mix up there was nothing they could do and she apologized profusely and told me if I ever came back to call some special number but she couldn't guarantee they wouldn't mess up again since they were so disorganized. I took her up on it and called back, made my reservation on the roof only to find out they messed up again! They made the reservation for the wrong day and could not accommodate me for the date I had originally requested. They apologized again and said there was nothing they could do. I will never go or try to go back there again! Did I mention the size of the actual pool up there is the size of my bathtub?
Review Source:Have you ever had an experience SO cool that you think: wait a second, this is TOO good to be true...what's the catch? What am I doing wrong? Aren't they going to charge me a hidden fee? Am I going to get in trouble?
As my boyfriend and I sipped artisan cocktails (The Magellan: House Mezcal, absinthe, agave, St. Germain, burnt orange zest) and lounged in the 100-degree pool-turned-hot-tub, we kept waiting for someone to tell us that there had been a mistake. "Sorry, you're not guests at the hotel." "Sorry, you're not rich enough to swim in our pool and drink our liquor." "Sorry, you look way too Brooklyn to be at a hot Manhattan hotel." Or just..."Sorry, you're not old enough for this."
Nope. We lounged in our private pool, because evidently no one knows that this is the best thing EVER to do in Manhattan on a Tuesday night. The waitress brought us drinks and water and even took our picture. We wrapped ourselves in linen towels and sat on sheepskin-covered seats and pinched ourselves that we'd just enjoyed almost 2 hours of secluded, peaceful bliss while staring out at a glorious NYC skyline. The pool - which in the summer is "La Piscine" and apparently much more crowded - has an unbelievable view of the Empire State Building.
You can order from their elegant menu and have your food served poolside. We opted to eat beforehand, in the gothic-trendy restaurant adjoining the pool room. It was full of artfully dripping candles, more sheepskins, napkins tied beautifully with leather twists, and MORE excellent views. We shared the Savoyarde fondue, which was deliciously pungent and French, and seconds after my boyfriend stared sadly into the bottom of the bread bowl, wondering if he'd have more bread to sop up the cheese...there was our waitress, offering more bread. We also shared the pumpkin empanadas, which were very unusual and just a little spicy. Our waitress served us dinner and cocktails poolside, and she was lovely.
I almost don't want to write about this place, because it's just too awesome, and it was a private poolside night. But seriously: this is the chance to feel like a million bucks and pay much, much less.
La Piscine at Hotel Americano is a great find. My old coworker took me and another coworker here for the first time for drinks and it was such a great experience. We didn't have a place to sit but the views were great of the empire state building and the waterfront that we didn't mind at all. The bar has an amazing panoramic view of Manhattan, it looks as if you are looking through a picture frame.
I took my friend when she was visiting NY and this time i was prepared and made a reservation. We had amazing appetizers, which filled us up pretty well. I would describe the food as "Greek grill". It was great! They have the best tzatziki!! We also had calamari and a greek salad w/ tomatoes, olives, onions and cucumbers. It was perfect for a summer day accompanied with a refreshing cocktail! Fun atmosphere and a good rooftop bar option, i highly recommend it. Im surprised there aren't more reviews for this place but I guess everyone wants to keep it a secret. =)
The rooftop lounge has great views and a very chic, cool ambiance. The food is really good. Limited menu, but what they have is good. I made a reservation to have a party here, had to sign a contract and everything, but when I got there, the staff had no record of my reservation. I showed them the contract I'd signed - I had the whole email chain and a pdf of it on my phone. Even though the place was not that full, the staff seemed to not really know what to do to accommodate my reservation. In fact, in the three hours that we were there, they never gave me the space I had requested, even though it remained vacant while I was there. It was a very hot day, and the heat was inescapable where we were seated. My friends and I asked several times if we could move to a spot that had more of a breeze, but the staff seemed distracted and kept saying that they forgot to ask the right person whether we could move. Each time we asked to move to a different spot, the staff would say, "But you seem pretty happy here."
Review Source:This review is for the rooftop restaurant, La Piscine. The one star is props for finding great real estate with a great view. That is basically all this restaurant has.
A group of friends and I made reservations here MONTHS in advance for a July 4th dinner. On July 3 they call us and tell us that are now requiring a $75 price-fix menu for July 4th dinner. We ask what is on the menu, and they saw barbecue. We tell them it is RIDICULOUS to make us have this menu with less than 24 hours notice, and after much negotiating, they oblige.
We walk into the hotel for our reservation, and the hostess and wait staff are friendly. The bar food looks delicious, and I am dying to order the fresh chips and guacamole. Once on the rooftop, our waitress gives us the $75 price fix menu (an entree was a hot dog). It takes us a half hour to track down the manager and reiterate that we were told we did not have to do the price fixe.
So we order of the same (I mean regular) menu ... its hot dogs, burgers, sides. Nothing amazing- they are literally cooking over a small grill. Whatever- its July 4th. So we ask the waitress for chips and guac for an appetizer and she responds they can't serve that up here. I ask her if I can buy it downstairs and take the elevator up twenty flights and she says no. We ask for bread- she says they don't serve that up here either.
AN HOUR AND A HALF GOES BY ...
In that time for 13 people, a Caesar salad is served with three croutons and chili cheese fries. I ask the waitress after 45 minutes what is going on, and in her snotty tone she says we should have ordered off the price fixe. So somehow the hot dog is different on the price fixe and regular menus?!?
The fireworks are beginning to start and we again ask the waitress who has no clue. We ask to see a manager-- she says she can't find her. Out of the corner of my eye, I see the manager sipping champagne with pals without a care in the world.
We watched the fireworks and left just paying for drinks. They were so embarrassed they brought up bread and butter ... weird they do serve that on the rooftop.
DO NOT GO HERE! The staff is a joke. Go for a drink, see the view, and then leave. Although I have to say the views are better elsewhere. So I guess just DO NOT GO HERE!
For the rooftop "restaurant" : Restaurant is a gross overstatement. Nice view, go up for drinks or to maybe dip your big toe in their rooftop "pool" -since that's about all that will fit in the pool. Do not go to eat. Severely limited menu- and not interesting at all. Wait staff is unsure of what is available, and cannot differentiate between a "Greek Salad" and a "Green Salad"-this happened 3x at our table. The Greek salad was more like a mini cucumber & pepper salad with one small piece of feta. The burgers were some of the worst ever made, overcooked and miniscule. Â $16 and didn't even come with fries-you had the privilege of paying $7 additional dollars for fries. So, let's do the math: $23 for a crappy burger and fries. The sodas are watered down... Should I go on? OVERPRICED. I don't mind paying for the view but not if it comes with inedible fare. They don't even serve coffee up there during lunchtime. Actually, I am glad because I would be scared to try their version of a latte'. Highly unrecommended! Don't waste your time or money.
Review Source:This place(the rooftop bar) is one of those little gems that you run into every so often around the city. Â If I lived anywhere near here, I would be up there a couple times a week.
We spent a month in Greece last year, and everyday there you will find yourself dining outdoors, and many of those times are on a roof just like this. And how convenient, this place serves Mediterranean influenced food too. Took me right back to Santorini, but with a much different view.
I'm only giving this place four stars because I haven't had the whole menu. It all looks good, and if it tastes remotely like what we did have, this place is a definite winner.
First you walk into the breezeway of the lobby, and there is an express elevator to take you to the roof. A minute later you are at a table, looking at a menu, and ordering drinks. We were there with some friends scouting out a place to rent for one of those night before wedding dinners all the out of town guests go to, so we were just ordering small plates, sharing, and getting lit up with great wine and good view on a HOT Sunday afternoon.
I was confused by the wine menu(English please), so I just asked for a house white, and got another great memory of Greece. Brought me back to sitting on red sand beaches and getting sold $5 bottles of the finest white wine I have ever had. Wines grown in volcanic soil just seam to taste better, just my opinion, but what they gave me at Americano was great.
We also had the fries, hummus, and the calamari. The fries were some of the best in the city, we ordered them multiple times. I came home and tried to replicate them to somewhat good results.
The hummus was OK
The calamari was spot on, and served with a cucumber sauce. I didn't order the octopus because we'd 'ave been fighting over it, and that is usually really small portions, but we will get it next time when we are alone.
Anyhow, Americano rooftop bar is a great find. I will be back before it gets too popular, and we're forced to find the next little gem like this...
This is for the rooftop restaurant. Â
I went to the roof on a Sunday late afternoon, had an, ehh, ok time. Â I was with four guys and we asked for a table...there were several tables available (while the lounge area was crowded), but we were immediately asked if we would be ordering an entree, since the tables were reserved for that only. Â Keep in mind, we had yet to see a menu or talk among ourselves on what we wanted, so it was a little off putting to start.
We say sure, we'll order food, since some of us were indeed hungry. Â Get seated, and the trainwreck happens. Â Our waiter was clearly not interested in us (it seemed like he wanted to spend all of his time on the neighboring tables filled with attractive women). Â First, he come over, fills the tiny water glasses, spills all over the table, doesn't say anything or wipe it down. Â
The menu was a little sparse in terms of offerings, so we eventually order several round of starters and a pitcher (exceeding entree prices per person) and spend the rest of the time trying to get more water, asking for it, watching the waiter fill other tables and skip us and return to the kitchen, where he would hang out, checking his phone. Â
The food was tasty, if overpriced for the quantity, but other than that, it was mostly enjoyable. Â I think we ordered most of the starters available. Â Nothing stood out except for the hummus and yogurt plate, which had some nice strong flavors, and the cheesy mushrooms.
We did end up talking to a manager about our lack of service, and he did offer to bring us a pitcher, which we declined, so at least there was that (although he claimed they were understaffed for the crowd, which on a Gay Pride Sunday in NYC, where you are hosting an event (unrelated to our dining there), you would prepare for a larger crowd).
