We live right down the street and It's a great place to go and enjoy a relaxing night of good beer, good food, and good music. Their breakfast and french toast are a must. But all their food is good too!

My only issue is that their service is not very good. Most of the bartenders (one in particular) are very VERY slow. It's never very crowded when we go, and yet we still have to beg to get attention from the workers. You would think in an atmosphere as small as Mokka is, the bartenders would at least kind of recognize their regulars, but not in this case. I'm generalizing, but for the most part, the workers are kind of slow.

Other than the service, definitely try it out. If you can get there for breakfast everything is very VERY good.

Still smoing in this place, which is off-putting but, its got good beers and good food at a good price. The live band was awesome the night I was there and its an older crowd. I was on a date so it was a perfect setting for the occasion.

So, I strangely enough ended up here twice last week... I would go back, but there are certain menu items I would avoid. And...at least on both the times I went, the service was only OK.

Things to order: the Mokka French toast (YUM), Blueberry Belgian Waffle (Huge), and the Breakfast Quesadilla (double YUM). I tried the Goetta Fritata and a friend had the goat cheese one. Neither one was spectacular.

Service seems to be the downside here. I took much, much longer than it should have at every step of the process both times I went there, one time when it was empty and one time when it was packed.

Definitely try the place out, just don't do it when you are in a hurry.

1st time at this restaurant.

Went here for brunch with 2 friends. The menu had a good variety of dishes. I had the breakfast sampler which included small portions of the biscuit/gravy, Mokka french toast, eggs and one side which I chose cheese grits. All the food was great. Their coffee is even really good. The restaurant wasn't that busy but the time to receive our food was just a little on the slow side. Luckily there was good conversation & good coffee to pass the time.

Definitely a gem! If you haven't been here, you should put it on your to do list.

I've visited my friend in Newport for years and I was so upset that he had never taken me here. This is a great find. We went for brunch on Saturday. The place is clean with lots of light a local artist work on the wall, very cool.

We arrived around noon on Saturday, it was a little busy but didn't have to wait long to be seated. Coffee was great and we split the breakfast quesadilla and a Belgium waffle. The quesadilla was absolutely delicious, cheese inside a sun-dried tomato tortilla and two eggs on top, so yummy. The Belgium waffle was good, not the best but tasty. The bacon wasn't as crispy as I would have liked it so if you are like me, make sure you tell them to make it crispy. We also had a side of their potatoes (yes our eyes where bigger then our stomach) but they were so freaking good we ate them all.

My only complaint is that the service was a little slow and not as friendly as I would have expected for place where lots of locals go.

Oh also I heard that they have $5 dinners on Thursdays, so check it out if you can.

Burgers are yummy here and I love the breakfast. I come here a lot so I can be considered a regular. I have only been disappointed once here and that is when I came around Thanksgiving and tried pumpkin pancakes (not delish) but since I have been coming for two years, I can forgive one bad meal.

It is my sincere apology that I have to give this place two stars, but I just have to do it.

A place that is loved by locals, I've been hearing time and time again that I MUST get to this place. I don't know if they were meaning the bar or the food because they do both. This review is based on brunch alone.

I came here with a group of friends that were all visiting in town for Thanksgiving. I actually suggested this place because I figured they would have good food, and we could sit and catch up for a while. I am actually so completely embarrassed that I chose this place. I didn't go with a super popular OTR place because we all wanted a very chill, low key breakfast.

We did have a great time catching up, but unfortunately it had nothing to do with this place. This place is awkward, and I am not sure of their identity, maybe it changes at night I don't know. We ordered simple breakfast sandwiches and my friends only had an egg on half of hers. The other side was toast, and a tomato. SO bad. With something that simple, you would think the execution would be there. I ordered a breakfast sandwich as well and instead of putting a slice of cheese on it, there was a thick almost microwaved layer of shredded cheese that was so thick and greasy it was hurting my stomach to even eat.

Instead of sending it back because we were all starving we picked apart our food, deconstructed it into what was actually edible. I am so disappointed in this place and thoroughly embarrassed that I brought people from out of town. The only saving grace was that the girl serving us was a sweetheart. I just hope that my friends don't leave Cincy with a bad taste in their mouth, literally and figuratively :(

I was looking for a new breakfast place with a little something extra, so I turned to my friends at yelp! You folks didn't steer us wrong, it was exactly as reviewed. We arrived around 11:45 am on a Sunday, and there were about 6 parties ahead of us. I have to say that if there was one thing I was disappointed with, it was the wait. We waited about 30 minutes. This was disappointing for 2 reasons: we weren't offered any coffee while we waited, and when we were finally seated, there were at least 4 empty tables in the other room.

HOWEVER, it was well worth the wait, and I will wait again in the near future! Menus were already at our table when we were seated, and our server arrived promtly for our drink order. They had several brunch specials: pumpkin pancakes, quiche (which sold out as we were waiting), stuffed french toast with pumpkin cream cheese, and some healthy choices I didn't bother reading.

I went for the pumpkin pancakes, with canadian bacon and scrambled eggs. My husband ordered the breakfast sampler with goetta. We both had coffee. WOW! I think our server's name was Christie, and she kept the coffee hot and our cups full. We chatted and enjoyed the atmosphere while we waited for our food, and when it arrived it was amazing! My husband's sampler had 1 biscuit with sausage gravy, 1/2 slice of their french toast, eggs and goetta. The food was amazing! I made pumpkin cupcakes a few weeks ago, and my pancakes from here were better Even the scrambled eggs tasted especially good, and it looked like I had about 6 of them. The other reviewers were so right when they said the goetta was perfectly cooked. I didn't think I liked goetta until today - YUM.

Finally, the staff was remarkable. Even 2 of the bus boys stopped to thank us for our business and invited us to return. When was the last time that happened? We will be regulars, and now I can't wait to go there for dinner and drinks. If the food is half as good and the staff as friendly as today, I'll be one happy customer! Kudos Mokka!

What do you call a breakfast place where everything is delicious? A dream come true? 10/10? This is mokka ladies and gentlemen. It's a weird combination, with a bar and a breakfast place in the same location. I haven't tried the bar, but now this is my choice of breakfast on the other side of Ohio river.

Me and wifey were taking part in the 5k as part of the cincy half marathon. By the time we were finished we were famished, and like many other couch potatoes who suddenly decide to do a 5k, we wanted our reward, and now. We turned to yelp for a good recommendation and it showed as Mokka. We were also planning to goto Newport Aquarium, which is a short walk from here.

So we got here, and got ourselves a table by the window. The color scheme works perfect in the morning. I tell you, if you have a photographic eye, you will jump with joy near that window.

I had a breakfast sampler, which was one of the best decisions i made in my life in recent years. It had their glorious french toast, eggs (i had them scrambled) biscuit and gravy, and sausages. Each one of them tasted heavenly, and created some kind of an impossible taste harmony in my mouth. The french toast is kinda sweet, but in a small porttion like with the sampler it is just-right. One of the best biscuit gravy i have ever had. Wifey had pumpkin pancakes, bacon and potatoes. She is very picky with the food she eats, but this morning her plate was empty before you could say "whaaaa..."

Ahh Mokka. Where to start.
I have brought countless friends and family members here for some perfectly satisfying breakfast, because I know there's no way they won't love it (unless they're an alien, always possible..) The first time I went was because of a recommendation of the French Toast. The many Yelp reviews about it do not lie; the stuff is magical. I have tried many other things on the menu, most recently the Goetta Avalanche. Talk about satisfying! The goetta was done to perfection, and all the ingredients made my breakfast palate a smorgasbord of amazingness.
I must admit, I have never been there at night for the "Sunset Grill". More than likely because if I walk in the door not expecting coffee or bloody mary, something's not right.
At times, the service and food can take a little longer than expected, but all good things come in good time my friends. Sabali!
Whether hungover or simply ready to start a big day, Mokka is the first thing to pop into my mind (and my stomach)!

Tried their Sunday brunch. Great one of a kind menu items for brunch. Service was outstanding, and friendly. Food was great. You can't get a better value, in a relaxed friendly place like this. Flat screens for sports too!

Mokka is delightful. I had heard of it, passed it, meant to try it. I finally went for lunch with a friend, and we had a wonderful experience. Cheery, elegant atmosphere, friendly service, varied menu, and glorious food! The have an array of lunch salads, sandwiches, and breakfast if you're in the mood.

Being a 'breakfast for lunch' person, I had the pancakes. They were heavenly, served with Canadian bacon and fruit. And reasonably priced. Win win.

They also have a bar, with happy hour specials, full dinner menu, and live music on certain nights. I will certainly be back next time I'm in Newport. This place is a great find.

As I am planning this review in my head, I am probably going to do a bad job explaining my feelings on Mokka so in summary - I like it!

Mokka feels like a restaurant/bar that you would find in a really small town. One that has a catch all type place where you can get breakfast or get a beer and watch the game in the evening in the same spot....only it has been dropped a half mile from downtown Cincinnati. This isn't a bad thing!

I have been here twice, once for lunch and once for brunch so I can't judge dinner or the bar crowd, but I really enjoyed this place earlier in the day. Our servers have been polite and while both times the food has taken bit longer to prepare than what I would anticipate, we were checked in on regularly.

I've had the goetta grilled cheese (with an a la cart order of the Mokka French toast - yum) along with pancakes and fruit. All have been really enjoyable. Actually, the menu has lots of dishes that sound intriguing.

I will admit that looking over the weekly special board is a bit more complex than usual, but we are all smart people - right? You can figure it out.

Monmouth is already a pretty special street for me and this place with its odd character just adds to the charm.

Three stars right now--will go again soon and see if things get even better.

Things are looking up for Mokka--I was in the mood for their Mokka French Toast today, so I headed over for $6.00 Thursday and noted new servers--new, more attentive servers who kept a nice pace, food arrived in time to actually eat slowly and digest it, she checked back within a reasonable time, and brought the check without being asked...an overall happy experience that I hope continues. The Mokka French Toast (with potatoes and crisp goetta) rocks, and I could eat it anytime, but I've been hesitant to go back to Mokka because of all the service mishaps I've experienced over the last year or so.

Here's to (hopefully) continued change for the better!

Mokka drives me insane. This is one of the few restaurants that I have been to eat brunch, lunch and dinner so I have a fairly well-rounded perspective of the joint. My favorite? Not by a long shot, but they do have a good menu, tasty food and a terrific mimosa if I should be so bold.

My problem with Mokka has never been the food. I even ventured way outside the box and had a side of goetta last time I was there for brunch and halfway enjoyed it! I take issue with the service. Whenever Monica and I have gone, which has been quite a few times (at her request), we always seem to have a server missing something. They've all been nice, but missing urgency or give-a-damn, I'm not sure; can't put my finger on it. Again, everyone has always been very polite and nice, but not the best service I've ever had. Maybe I'm too picky.

Is there a better spot for comfort food in Northern Kentucky. I say no.

Now, don't get me wrong, like most places in Newport/Covington, this is a very different scene from morning to night. When the sun goes down and a band starts playing here, or they have a DJ, or just turn up the music over the speakers, it becomes a place to party, and not my favorite place in the world.

However, Mokka has one of my favorite breakfast/brunches in the city, especially when dealing with a hangover. Maybe this is why they get so loud at night - so you come back in the morning for them to ease your wounds (how devious!)

I have no idea what the name means and I keep meaning to ask. The bar has kind of a western/southern type feel, with wood everywhere (wooden walls, wooden bar, wooden tables, etc.) The staff is friendly but can be a little short if they get busy. It's ok, take a seat and wait for that meal.

And oh what a meal it is: biscuits and gravy, goetta, eggs, and, of course, their legendary breakfast potatoes, which come out perfectly fried and deliciously spiced. As our waitress (and Jon A) referred to them: "golden nuggets of glory." I couldn't agree more.

There's no parking lot but there are cheap meters across the street (.25 cents will get you half an hour and the meters run for 10 hours so it's not too much of an issue.) Plus, you're right across the street from the World Peace Bell and who doesn't like to see a giant bell from time to time.

So again, not my favorite spot past about 1pm. However, before then, my god people, those breakfast potatoes! Those potatoes!

i value the management of expectations. And, I also value exploding the notion that expectations have to be managed if the product is so intensely good it deserves a premeditated attack of hype & hyperbole. In this case... Mokka & The Golden Nuggets of Glory (aka their breakfast potatoes). Whether the cheery, attentive, staff realized it or not, she raised the bar for the entire meal on the coattails of the Golden Nuggets of Glory. And guess what... this meal lived up to it all and then some.

Buttermilk (and they were clearly buttermilked) biscuits. Crack those open, fry a slice of Glier's Goetta, smother it in sausage gravy, with a side of the golden nuggets of glory, request a side of two over eggs, toss them on top. That goetta was ridiculously well-fried, and well-suited to be atop biscuits and under sausage gravy & eggs. If I weren't driving after the meal, I would've gone Bloody or Beer... instead it's bar coffee, at the least though it was always refilled & hot. I couldn't have drummed up a better hangover, get out of my slumber meal.

Like Annie D noted... parking is whack around these parts, which is no blame to Mokka (10 minute parking? in some spots, 10 hours in others? Come one KY). The easiest thing to do is to park in the pre-paid lot next to the building. There's a "Rust Monster" box where you shove cash into, but it's unattended and makes you wonder if it's ever been attended and who's rent or Hudy habit you're helping out.

My experience here was one giant Golden Nugget of Glory. I felt like they should've draped me in an American Flag for my exit. Expectations met. Expectations surpassed.

From what my trusty co-worker Alex S tells me, Mokka has a very different scene from day to night. I can't speak to the nighttime antics, but here are a few highlights from the daytime:

-Lots of brunch items with gravy on them. Yes, please.
-Golden, spiced breakfast potatoes that reminded me of my elementary school cafeteria in the best possible way. Seriously, so good.
-Goetta. A must when you're in Cincy, am I right?
-Free-flowing coffee (my cup never even felt a slight chill, it was refilled so regularly)
-Friendly service
-Hangover cures to spare (Bloodys, "the" game on TV, eggs, the aforementioned gravy)

Other notes:
-Parking in this area seems tricky to a visitor like me. Meters aren't standard (some 20 minute limit, some 10 hour limit) and we ended up paying $2 in a rusty parking contraption behind Mokka... but weren't really sure if we had to pay or not. It's probably a lot more obvious to locals, but thought it was worth noting.
-No poached eggs on weekends
-The breakfast pizza isn't a pizza, but it's so good. It's basically a goetta, egg, gravy pile on top of a piece of pita bread. Amazing.

Mokka is what I'd call... acceptable. It's not great but it's not bad either.

The burgers are pretty good but the buns dissolve rather quickly. It's an area they could improve on.

They do have some pretty good sweet potato and waffle fries.

The prices are fairly reasonable for a bar & grill. Though I don't think their drinks specials are all that special.

Mokka is the type of place to if you're just looking for a nice, easy meal before heading out for the night.

It's not great, but not half bad either. Just like this review.

Mokka is a great breakfast/brunch spot. I've never gone here for any other meal (and don't plan to). The food is solid - especially the french toast, the breakfast sandwich, and the breakfast quesadillas.

Don't come here if you want a quiet, romantic breakfast spot. This place is lively and pretty loud. Serving staff is friendly in general, but nothing over the top.

Come here for good food, good value, and a fun brunch atmosphere.

I left this place with a headache.

We met a large group at about 6:45 and were sat rather quickly (We'd RSVP'd, of course). However, it took forever to get our orders taken and then forever to get served. Once the food did arrive it was AOK but nothing to brag about. I was surved the wrong dish and had to send it back and when I got the right one it was without a side. I didn't complain because by that time 8:15ish the staff looked to be short of patience and my head was throbbing.

Why? Because the place was louder than a P-funk concert. There was some mediocre band playing in the next room way too loudly. Then there were TVs on and what I thought was a nice restaurant was actually a sports bar with the requisite yelling by men. At a certain point I completely gave up trying to speak to the people I was dining with.

I finished my meal as quickly as I could and excused myself and got the hell out of there.

With the holiday weekend being so busy, my wife and I didn't find much time for dining out. We did manage to get out of the house on Monday, and found our first choice for dinner was apparently closed that evening, likely in observance of Christmas. With that plan ruined I drove toward downtown with no destination in mind. I was hoping to find someplace new to try, and eventually we ended up crossing the river into Newport and stumbling upon Mokka and the Sunset Bar & Grill. It was recommended as a good breakfast spot during the Newport Gangster tour, but as it turns out they serve pretty good dinner options as well.

Since it was Monday, we were able to take advantage of their half price appetizer selections and agreed on the pesto dip - goat cheese, sun-dried tomatoes and pesto sauce served warm with soft and crispy pita chips. This was a really good start to our meal and at only $4.50 it was a steal! I thought I had a photo, but my phone is acting like it doesn't exist. Bummer.

For dinner I ordered the islander sandwich - sliced hot ham, Swiss cheese, pineapple, lettuce, tomato and jerk mayo served on grilled wheat bread - with onion rings on the side ($8). My wife ordered the goetta grinder - grilled red onions, green peppers and goetta topped with Pepper Jack cheese and mayo served on a seasoned hoagie bun - with waffle fries ($8). We tried these since they were some of the more unique items on the menu and it really paid off. We split both sandwiches and I was happy with both.

The goetta grinder was definitely unique and I would easily order it again. The mix of peppers and onions with goetta was something I've never had before but I think it really worked well. The islander had pretty thick sliced ham and the pineapple was a nice touch. One thing that I would change would be the amount of butter used. It seemed that both meals were overly greasy. The grinder definitely didn't need the butter and seasoning on top, which is visible in the photo. Other than that, we had a good meal for an affordable price. Beer prices were also fair and there were a few good craft choices on tap too.

Karaoke starting at 9. I'm just here for my black and bleu burger.

Our waitress was so nice and funny.

The price is more than great for the quality of food.

Great selection on beers :)

Down side to our visit: Took longer than 20 minutes to get our food and one of the guys at the bar didn't know what kinds of beer they had. Needless to say, it took a while for the drinks to come out too.

Heard wonderful things about their brunch, but I absolutely loved their dinner. Excellent high quality bar food at reasonable prices. Our loaded waffle fries were decadent, and my entree, the goetta hoagie was fabulous. My mother had a stuffed pork chop that was out of this world. Excellent beer selection as well and friendly staff. Will absolutely return. Seems like all the negative reviews are from uptight weirdos. Support this great place!

I opted to try Mokka because I heard that it had a variety of vegetarian breakfast options. I was anticipating a Melt-like experience in Newport. Not a chance!

Upon entering, I was face-to-face with a sandalwood bar. I thought I had walked into the wrong establishment, as this looked more like Bobby Mackey's than Melt. It had that country music and bourbon feel.

We stood in the door way for a bit, and bartender came to seat us (mind you, we were there for breakfast and a bartender was on duty.) We were led into the backroom which had a few tables and were handed a one-sided menu. There were minimal vegetarian options...heck, on a one-sided menu, there were minimal options for anything!

Our choices were a spinach quiche, fruit cup and hashbrowns. We ordered all three and coffee. There was one other couple in the restaurant, however it took a really long time for the food to arrive. The waitress/bartender didn't bother to check in on us in the mean time.

As we waited, I made observations about the backroom. The decor felt more like a steakhouse than a breakfast cafe. Clearly, this is a place where you eat hot wings, not an omelette. There were not designated smoking areas, so the restaurant smelled (yes, that one other couple was smoking.)

Our food finally arrived and was subpar. The quiche was small and unflavorful, and the fruit cup looked like it had been marinating in a bucket overnight. The hashbrowns were just okay. When the bill arrived, we had sticker shock: it was over $20.00... not to mention one cup of coffee cost $2.00!

Mokka is far from being a breakfast cafe, much less serving good vegetarian meals. It should go back to its roots as a sports bar and quit trying to pass as a bistro during the morning hours.

Man, I'm really torn on how many stars to review Mokka. On the one hand, I thought their food was amazing. On the other, their deals on drinks blow major chunks.

So, I guess I'll start on the good. I went there for a happy hour, and near everything on the menu was only $5, with appetizers half price. I got a hoagie, sandwich, thing, which was one of the best sandwiches I've had in quite a while. To top it all off, waffle fries?! Yes, our superior-in-every-way-to-french-fry friend made a glorious, well timed appearance. The sandwich was huge, everything tasted fresh, and it sat well in my tummy.

Now, as far as the drinks. Their happy hour is confusing, as the only special they actually have is 50 cents off a beer, and $2 for a pint of Miller Lite. I hardly consider any of those deals, especially because if a cheap domestic like Miller is over $2, you're getting scammed. On their board they advertise $2 well drinks, which would be fine - except these apparently only start after 9. Why the deception Mokka?

To add insult to injury, one of my friends ordered a Makers on the rocks. The Makers itself was $5.50. And there was a separate entry for "Rocks - $1". Seriously? You're going to charge a buck for a glass of ice? Next time I'll just ask for an ice water and dump it out in the restroom.

In short, come here for the amazing food with a coke. If you order alcohol, you're setting yourself to be cheated.

Thursday night. 6:30. Crowded. No tables were available. We sat at the bar after finally realizing no one was going to even try to seat us. I suppose it is a seat yourself place, but a sign would have helped.

The service was the lowest point for me. Too long to get a drink, too long to get a menu, too long to take our order. Sat with half eaten entrees in front of us for a good 15 minutes.

I have a weakness for Kentucky Hot Browns so I had to try it. It was unconventional in the fact that I am accustomed to the bread being toasted, and the tomatoes being slices rather than diced. The turkey was good, but a little thicker cut of it than I would like. I give them an 'A' for making it their own while staying within the traditional realm.

Ok, enough about the Hot Brown. We had the creamy pesto dip. It is a layer of sundried tomatoes, a layer of basil pesto, and a final layer of melted goat cheese. It is served with both crispy and doughy pita. It was tasty.

Entrees come with a salad. I appreciate the fact that it was mixed greens served with a small piece of garlic toast rather than the ubiquitous iceberg.

My partner's Mediterranean pasta was overloaded and overwhelmed with red onion. He picked them out and set them aside... something I had never seen him do.

I noticed Jagermeister shots were served in small plastic opaque cups. Not really upscale. I don't think the persons receiving those shots would have appreciated the bartender picking up multiple cups at a time by sticking her fingers down into the cup.

The regulars seemed to really like it here. But unless there's a band playing that I really want to see, I will unlikely pay them a second visit.

Important to note-the bar side is smoking, the other side is not, and during brunch at least (maybe every morning, not sure) there is no smoking until the afternoon.

The first visit was for dinner, or the Sunset Bar & Grill version of this place. We sat at the bar while waiting for the rest of our party. The beer selection was decent enough. We sat down at a table on the non-smoking side when our group arrived. Our server was friendly, but didn't offer more than an "it's good" with the couple of questions we had. When I'm trying to compare two meal choices, I'd like to hear more than "they're both pretty good". I ended up choosing the sunset salad, which has chicken, goat cheese, bunch of other stuff. It was okay. Everyone liked their food, but none of us left feeling wowed.

Brunch at Mokka (same building, different meal/time) was fantastic! French toast was worth the rave reviews it's received. The goetta was cooked perfectly, with crispy edges. The portions here for brunch are HUGE-my french toast came with goetta and their breakfast potatoes, which were just the right amount of spicy. The line/wait for brunch was pretty long, so show up early if you can. The service was a bit on the slow side for coffee refills, but our server was really nice about it and obviously pretty busy.

Bottom line-a definite winner for brunch/breakfast food. I would try dinner here again, but it was pretty underwhelming the first time. If you do come for the Sunday brunch, get here early to avoid the crowd.

The best thing about Mokka: $5 Thursdays. Five bucks for almost anything on the menu.

Detracting factors include incredibly slow service and so-so food--even for a place like Mokka.

I've heard their Mokka French Toast is off the hook, but haven't tried it.

Had the misfortune of going to Mokka today. The quiche special with sweet potato crust was quite possibly one of the worst things I ever ate (or stopped myself from finishing) for breakfast. Also, the bacon was so overcooked it had the texture of stale beef jerky.
For a much better quiche go to Annabels in Mt. Lookout - never been disappointed with any of their offerings. Or on Sundays, head to Take the Cake in Northside or Mayberry in downtown Cincinnati.

Mokka is the best place to catch a lazy breakfast. And because of how many people they pack in at this local meeting-place, I highly emphasize taking a lazy approach to getting here, as sometimes the line can reach the sidewalk.

But park your keister early in the day, because Mokka's strength is in their breakfast menu. The few times I've been served their lunch and dinner, I've felt there was much to be desired. But they still offer a full bar with great promotional nights, and an exciting place to catch games if you're not out of bed before the sun sets.

And of course nobody can leave without trying the french toast, a little specialty of theirs. Though personally I'm more of a "breakfast club" kinda guy. (but hold the tomato, and the Judd Nelson jokes) Additionally, Mokka serves up a great slice of goetta.

The biggest thorns in my side of this establishment have been the service. It seems like you can't go wrong sitting in the side sans bar, but you'll be left with a long wait depending on where and who's on the schedule that night.

Again, lazy breakfast.

It taking this down to a 3 (last time I reviewed they were in the old space, the one even before the old Syndicate which was super homey).

I feel it is waaay too loud in this restaurant and the food is fine. If it wasn't for the location being central for meeting people from different areas in the tri-state it wouldn't be on my radar.

This is the new location of Mokka that has been reviewed at this link I believe. http://www.yelp.com/biz/…

I can only speak to the breakfast restaurant part of Mokka, they appeared to be bi-polar in their business plan: americana type food during the day and bar during the night, not a bad combination. I love their location just two blocks from the Levee and they have a comfortable atmosphere with friendly service. That being said, do not go here if you are bothered at all by SLOW service that is mildly in-attentive. We came in around 1145a on a sunday and were not seated until around 1210p because they were busy as to be expected. Our entire dining experience was about 1.25hrs from that point forward for breakfast.

The food was hot and the breakfast potatoes were very good. The pancakes were delicious and the canadian bacon was sliced razor thin. My wife got the special of the day which was also very good (wish I could remember...sorry folks). All of the specials sounded outstanding and overall the food was good.

It was a fun place to sit and chill and hang out and talk with our friends. If you like your coffee top'd off Bob Evan's style however, I think you don't want to come here. My cup sat half full to empty most of the time.

This place was friendly and the food was good breakfast food but the slow service definitely cost them a star in my book and I am usually very tolerant and patient of service.

Mostly street parking, tiny lot.

Having being a server, one of my pet peeves is waiting too long. I completely understand being busy and trying to take care of alot of people, but it was kinda ridiculous. We sat at the bar because the hostess was taking too long to get tables ready, thinking we were skirting the long wait times. Unfortunately, I don't think they have a bartender on Sunday mornings. So they gave us a waiter who had tables all over the restaurant, and she was having a difficult time getting to everyone. I only received one refill on my coffee and had to flag her down to pay. I was close to just dropping $20 on the bar and leaving, hoping that it covered the bill. The girls sitting next to me were complaining that it took 10 minutes for anyone to get them a coke.

That being said, the food was pretty decent. I got a California Fritatta, my girl got the salmon breakfast with capers (i forget the name). She raved on and on about her food saying it was the best smoked salmon she's had. The fritatta was fluffy and had fresh ingredients, tasty. The side potatos reminded me of every other places breakfast potato cubes. Nothing to write home about.

I'll eat there again, but only when I have 1.5 hours to kill for breakfast, which unfortunately isn't too often.

Mokka is a delightful brunch location for delicious, unique, and well portioned brunch treats. Their claim to fame is probably their signature Mokka French toast which is 3 slices of corn flake battered french toast, creme bruleed pastry cream, and bananas. It comes with their potatoes which are pretty much perfect as each piece is nice and crispy on it's own. If you haven't been here before - this is the dish to try.

On the one page menu, there are other items like your standard waffles, frittatas, and even goetta grilled cheese sandwiches. But in addition to that, there are "excellent selections of the day" (as Eric B calls them). These are specials that are really quite special. For example, on that day, there were breakfast egg rolls and pumpkin strata as additional choices. With so many choices, how can one decide?!

A big bonus at Mokka is that they let you substitute the meat that comes with most dishes with fruit. Having fruit plus just the right portion of sweet and delicious goodness makes me feel a lot less guilty about coming here again=)

This breakfast/brunch/lunch only place has changed locations, so reviews prior to 2008 are probably for the previous location. It's now located next the the Syndicate, apparently around the corner from before. Unfortunately, there is no outside seating now.

I'm torn about what to say about this place. The food, when we finally got it, was very good! I had the breakfast wrap which was a unique combination of chicken, brie cheese, walnuts and raisins. Very different and yet tasty. It came with a side of potatoes or fruit and I chose fruit, which was rather small but contained honeydew, watermelon, cantaloupe and a strawberry or two.

My husband had the breakfast quesadilla, which is cheese, bacon, etc. in a tortilla and topped with an egg cooked to your liking. He chose his egg over easy. His dish was accompanied by sour cream and salsa. It was a generous sized dish and was also very tasty.

However (you knew that was coming, right), we waited up front to be seated while it appeared the hostess stalled to get tables ready. I don't know if the kitchen was behind or if they were short on wait staff, but it was obvious that something was going on. I'm sure we waited over 20 min. on our food, with no explanation or apology.

It was also very noisy; lots of families with small children. So, the food was 4 stars, the environment 2...I'll give it a 3.
