Adequate but not great
Have to say we had expected a lot more based on the reviews. Our meals were adequate but by no means great. I had roasted chicken with lemon and mushroom ragout - a somewhat overcooked piece of chicken on top of a lot of mushrooms, with a couple of slices of lemon on top. It needed a lot more flavors (note to chef: if you want to taste a really great roasted chicken dish, eat at the Prado, San Diego). My husband had the lobster carbonara - he liked the pasta but the lobster was kind of plonked on top and really didn't bear any relation to the rest of the dish. And for a restaurant of this type, we should not have had to ask for our $48 bottle of dry white wine to be chilled better. We had a much better, and far cheaper, meal at Marias the following night.
Yeah.
So, I went here with my aunt and uncle and two friends of theirs before seeing The Marriage of Figaro with the LA Phil at Disney. Given that my relatives are in their late 60s, we were, of course, early. Meaning, we were THE ONLY people in the restaurant.
You'd probably bet, then, that there'd be no problem with service, and you'd soundly lose that bet.
Not that the service was bad...it just wasn't up to par with a fine dining establishment, especially one that wasn't busy. The waiter actually forgot to take my order, walking away from the table so we had to shout to get him back. He was also rather awkward and uncomfortable talking to us.
What he did, however, is tell us how wonderful the seafood was, particularly the bouillabaisse. So, my uncle ordered it...and so did I, after we got him back to the table. Well, the food arrives and they start putting the wrong dishes in front of everyone, so we played musical food for a bit. Then came the bouillabaisse.
What a disappointment. The fish was overcooked, the tomato sauce bland, and I've had much, MUCH better for the price (my uncle and I both agree). According to the others in our party, their food was fine, but nothing to write home about (ie. not worth it).
I guess there's not much in the way of good food around Disney concert hall, and that's too bad. The only thing this place has going for it is convenience. Next time I'm going to the theater, I'll be going elsewhere.
This restaurant was in our hotel (Omni) during our honeymoon so we decided to check it out. It's fancier than we are used too.. but in jeans and a nice top we didn't feel out of place. We made reservations with the concierge and made our way down at that time.
The menu is small and expensive (minus one star). The service was good, very efficient on the water refills. We started with the included rolls and butter - which were delicious. The hubby ordered a hamburger (plain) with french fries. I got the steak and roasted potatoes. (all pictured). Soft drinks are not on the menu but they do have them (we got a coke & ginger ale). My steak was delicious, although it had a huge chunk of fat in the middle of it. The hubby said his burger was good as well, but nothing he would write home about. They gave pretty big portions too.
Our waiter said their chef is known for his seafood dishes.. so if you like seafood I would check them out. Unfortunately, besides the occasional bowl of clam chowder.. we really don't.
No apps, no dessert. Mainly because nothing they had appealed to us. Even still, our bill (see picture) was over $80 with tip and a had a strange "open food" charge for $8... so apparently we paid for the rolls. (minus one star).
While there we noticed a lot of business groups and/or lawyers discussing very important things (or so it seemed), so that must be their regular clientele. I doubt we would go back but I would recommend it for a date night or business.
Great pre-theater and late-night date spot. We came twice in a day a week ago and had an amazing experience in both the restaurant and lounge.
Restaurant-the service was perfect and they timed everything just right. Food came out on time and everything tasted great. The star of the evening were the scallops. Chef knows how to make those scallops!! They have a great wine list and desserts were off the hook.
Lounge-After the show, we came back to relax and grab a cocktail in the lounge. They were jamming with the Wichata St. fans after they had won their sweet sixteen game. It was hard to find a seat, but the 2 managers?(they were in suits) were hustling along with the cocktail waitresses and 1 of them (not the bald one) immediately grabbed us chairs and found a table for us...amazing service! Even though they were busy, they were extremely helpful and friendly. The other manager (the bald one) took the time to talk to us about the wines and cocktails. Very knowledgable. Kristina was our server and even though she was busy, was still friendly and very efficient. Â My girlfriend and I had fun watching the fans have a good time and since we are both in the business, had fun watching how the staff was working too. All did a great job.
We came here a year and a half ago and didn't have as great a time and we can see things have changed. We will definitely be back!
Steve
My review is somewhat late but I guess better late than never! I went here for Valentine's day with my girlfriend and had an absolute wonderful time. The staff and chef went above and beyond to make this occasion memorable!
The menu at Noe changes every few months - keeping in line with the seasons. The chef even has his own garden at the Omni Hotel which I find really interesting.
The back story -
We've been to Noe once before. The first time we went was Winter of 2010. There was a scallop dish with puréed pumpkin sauce that was extremely good - flavorful yet balanced and the scallops were perfectly cooked with just the right amount of sear.
Ever since this dinner, my girlfriend would always compare all other scallop dishes to this one dish --- like the gold standard.
The set up -
I wanted to surprise my girlfriend with THE scallop dish so I called the restaurant in advance too see if they could accommodate my request. They said that they'd have to ask the chef and they'd call me back - which they did after a few days granting my request. Fantastic!
Luckily, there was another scallop dish on the menu and they suggested that I have my girlfriend order that one instead and when it came out, it would be the one that she's always wanted.
The actual meal -
We got to the restaurant and according to plan - she ordered the scallop dish currently on the menu. Little did she know that she would be getting the puréed pumpkin sauce version.
Here's where it gets even better. The chef personally came out with the puréed scallop dish! He thanked us for dining again at Noe, and wished us a wonderful Valentine's day! Now that's what I call service. We were so impressed! My girlfriend was extremely surprised and happy and the dish was how she remembered it to taste like 3 years after our first time at Noe!
Thanks you Noe and chef Glen! You guys made this date so memorable.
"Hannah, leave your cash and credit card at home the entire meal is taken care of."
*so giddy I can't apply my eyeliner straight*
I was invited to eat at Noe for a birthday dinner. Located inside the Omni Hotel, I visually liked the glowing blue decor and the beautiful floral arrangement. We had a semi private table waiting for our group with an awesome pianist playing in the background.
Our server was incredibly attentive and made sure our dining experience was excellent. I was able to taste a little bit of everything: striped bass, rosemary chicken, sweetbreads, filet mignon and lobster. The food was delicious and I enjoyed my meal til the end. However, it is not as memorable like I hoped.
Overall, Noe is a 3.5 and I am grateful for the free meal. Dress business casual. Valet the car $5 with validation.
This place is conveniently located in the Omni for those staying here.
Here's the low down on my meal - it alllll started with an amuse bouche! Â I LOVE amuse bouche! Â I scored yellow tail on ponzu sauce topped with cucumber. Â It was yummy & the perfect way to begin my experience.. I also had:
- Salmon (somewhere between a 4-6 oz) which was more on the rare side, but nonetheless delicious! It sat on a bed of cucumbers and tomatoes: http://www.yelp.com/biz_…
- Banana almond praline was yummy! Chunky pieces of banana with whipped cream and pieces of almond on top of vanilla wafers. It was GOOD! http://www.yelp.com/biz_…
.. and the bread! Â Ohh the bread. Â It's yummy, soft, and I could eat these all night!
The service was great & staff is real friendly. Â The view and ambiance of this place is quite romantic, but I would only be back if I stayed at this hotel again.
I've had 3 really great experiences here.
1. In the outside area of the bar where I enjoyed a light appetizer with drinks. Simple and nice.
2. I took a few people for a full meal and everything was absolutely delicious. The scorpion fish appetizer is a must have, very cool.
3. Just going to the bar for drinks. The bartender was extremely knowledgable and ended up turning me on to a bourbon that I had never tried before but am now in love with.
Good stuff all around.
.. This restaurant needs some serious work in terms of:
Service
Ambiance
Food selection and quality
We were recently staying at the Omni (where Noe is located) Â for the New Years Eve weekend including the Rose Bowl.
After a day on the town, we came back to the hotel around 9:45pm and decided to have a simple bite to eat. Just soup as the evening was cold and some greens as we didnt want to eat too heavy at this point in the evening.
When given the menu, we literally couldnt read it as the overhead lighting was so dim, we reviewed the food selections by candlelight. If this sounds romantic it wasnt.
The butternut soup was way too sweet and served luke warm with no bread or crackers. The basic dinner salad was less than basic as it consisted of the same type of greens along large chunks of very tasteless and cold tomatoes.
The above soup and salad combo cost around $42.00. A big fat YELP or YIKES.
The waitress appeared too inexperienced for this venue as well.
Overall, if you are desperate for a light bite to eat and you are staying at the Omni (which is a very good 4 Star Hotel) , then consider going to the Subway across the street or if you're lucky, Cal Pizza Kitchen may still be opened on Grand Ave.
Cute little French restaurant. Nice decor and good ambiance.
Food is pretty good. Their menu constantly changes so I'm not sure if they still have what I've had. The Truffled Mac & Cheese wasn't bad. Their Ahi Tuna Salad was pretty good. The Sauteed Scallops were pretty good, too.
BEST: Hamachi sashimi with grapefruit and wasabi! Jalapeno Creme Brulee (interestingly tasty).
SERVICE: Good. No complaints.
I may return. Nothing WOWed me so... we'll see.
The ambience is great and the service is even better, but when it comes to restaurants I only review the food and here, the food is not awesome.
For the prices, I expected a blast of deliciousness. I ordered from the prix fixe menu, which is a great deal at $35: viet crab rolls were good, braised ox tail was alright, and the peach tart was good. I also ordered fried calamari ($7). The batter was undercooked (gross) and the calamari itself didn't have much flavor...the curry spice helped, but with half soggy calamari I was already turned off. The sashimi app ($12) tasted fishy and not fresh and was served with really dry white rice.
Good place to drink and relax, but save your stomach and prevent brokeness by getting dinner somewhere else.
I know that this review is coming in only a month later after my first review, but I have dined at this restaurant many times, had drinks at the bar, drinks outside, happy hour, lounge hour or whatever hour and today was by far the worst. Â NOT because of the service. Â The waitstaff are overly anxious to please and seemingly nervous about their jobs....so they are putting in the extra effort.
It's the FOOD.
The original chef who first started the Noe Restaurants is no longer with this particular location anymore. Â There is a new chef. Â The food is presented in a gourmet way, but it is sub-par. Â I'm very disappointed because this is going to mar their very good track record so far. Â I"m sure that I'm not the only one that has noticed this.
What's excellent about this restaurant is that it is situated inside of a hotel that is EASY to access, EASY on parking, Â EASY on service and you can just hand your keys over to the valet....have them wisk the car away and just walk in and have everything "handled".
You can sit comfortably, in one of the ergonomic chairs in the lounge, set up your computer and be sending emails in no time. Â It's easy and its comfortable & casual. Â
I like service. Â Always have, always will. Â I tip well. Â They deserve it.
Not sure what to say other than..... wish the new chef could read these reviews and raise his OWN expectations about the food he's preparing and thus it will bring his reputation to an all new level.
Noe stands for NO!
Two stars is being generous. It is really just an underperforming "hotel restaurant" and should not be considered as a separate stand alone restaurant. Locals shouldn't even bother. And tourists should avoid if possible though it is located within range of the LAMCA and the Walt Disney Concert Hall.
Two main NOs at this restaurant...They did not carry most of the wines listed on the wine list. Quite the disappointment since one expects a restaurant would have the correct inventory. And the overall meal quality is what you might at a third rate hotel--the last time I checked, I wasn't aware that the Omni has become the new Best Western.
My dinning companion and I had the seared scallops as an appetizer. It was likely the highlight of the meal. Fresh and plump, seared evenly with a light drizzle of oil and citrus. We proceeded with a the three course tasting menu...the kampachi yellowtail was actually quite good and innovative. As a main entree I had the steak, which was overlooked, way too salty and tasted pretty cheap. The dessert was simply lazy...a scoop of coffee ice cream, whipped cream and a chocolate cake that might as well come out of an "Easy Bake Oven".
All of this goes to confirm that one should always be suspicious of restaurants located in undistinguished hotels.
only reviewing the lounge
my beautiful ger-ger and i had cocktails there after dinner while staying at the omni. Â our drinks were both very good! Â he had lemon drop and it was very fresh, and i liked my gin and tonic.
the atmosphere was lovely. Â there was a live pianist playing jazz music. Â he had a very nice voice as well. Â it was low lit inside, very comfortable. Â the chairs were soft and comfortable. Â
this was exactly the perfect place to spend some much needed vacation time, getting away from all the hassles of work.
our waitress was very attentive and made sure we had a nice time.
I surprised the lady with a hotel stay at the Omni, and the evening started off with dinner reservations at Noe. The atmosphere / ambiance here is very nice, and the food was fantastic. I ordered the pork chop, which was maybe the best/juiciest pork chop I've ever had at a restaurant, and she had the dinner portion of the scallops & ravioli.
Sadly, the service was a complete comedy of errors. I felt like walking in the back and going all Kitchen Nightmares on them or something- either our waiter was very, very new at this or the training at the management level for a restaurant trying to be this caliber is terrible.
Everyone makes mistakes once in awhile, but it drives me crazy when waiters don't write down your order, then make three, yes- three mistakes. We only ordered three things and wine! He was annoyingly apologetic, but then didn't even bother to check our bill and charged us for an extra salad. So, to make up for all this, they brought out a random dessert without asking us what we would have wanted. Whatever it would have been, it wouldn't have been a brownie, so this just added to the clumsiness of the experience.
Pro-Tip: At a $30ish an entree restaurant (in LA of all places) it's not "Tap" water. Just say water buddy. Or flat water. Or filtered water. Whatever it is, the first words out of your mouth probably shouldn't be "Welcome, would you like some tap water?"
AHHHHHHHHH New Zealand King Salmon with cucumbers and baby tomatoes! MELT IN MY MOUTH! cooked to perfection, it wasnt dry and had a nice juice to top it off. Also ordered the NY Steak strip, medium rare, which was also cooked very nice. Ordered some sides like asparagus - crunchy! and their mac-n-cheese not as good as Mastro's mac n cheese but pretty up there, not bad. We ate in a private room, so it definitely set the romantic mood... excpet i was with 8 other people. HAHA. Have no clue how much it costed because a gentleman paid for me.. so cant help you there.
But as for food and service, good job! i will make a visit back here when I can!
Stopped here because my friend was a guest at the hotel. Â
We sat outside in the bar/lounge area. Â Our server was pretty good. Â The food was small plates-my friend got a grilled cheese and tomato soup and I ordered the tallegio mac n' cheese which was really good. Â Very rich and flavorful. Â
Donna was our server, professional and a little over perky but attentive nonetheless.
Great place if you're a guest in the hotel but I doubt I'd go back just for the restaurant since it's downtown and I really don't like downtown.
Started the night off with finding street parking right in the front (that was an instant plus)
Took the elevator up and the host greeted/seated us right away.
We sat near the window and the city view only enhanced the ambiance. I throughly enjoy piano playing so it's a treat to have a pianist playing tunes during dinner.
The waitress was very attentive and paced everything perfectly.
Okay the food...
My oyster salad, tri-tip, can't remember my dessert but anyway it was good but not anything I would crave.
When park at the omni hotel make sure to get your valet stamped it'll cost you 5 bucks for parking.
Noe is def a very fancy restaurant with a nice piano playing songs that you recognized from time to time and even a little bit of song singing. The piano portion really added on to the ambiance made me felt at ease and happy.
the gnocchi that was suggested by the waiter was wayyyyyy to sour and drenched with tomato sauce, i dug and search for the little pieces of asparagus because that was the only thing from my entree that tasted good.
The dessert i ordered the apple tart and my friend ordered the chocolate cake with tiramisu ice-cream on top, I really liked the ice-cream and ate most of it but the tart was left sitting out in its lonesome not touched or eaten.
we sang happy bday to our gf and the piano player was so sweet to start playing "happy bday song" when he over heard us singing ..that was a thoughtful touch!
I had a pretty decent time during the Grand Performances coming here. I'm not sure if I was at another bar in Noe because there was definitely no live Monday music, but it's what it says on my bank statement, so here goes my bad review!
I came here in a desperate attempt to get a drink before a concert at The Colburn School 10 minutes before the show began...
$30.45 BEFORE tip for 2 Jagerbombs? Are you freaking serious!? I'm not a cheapskate, but BLOODY HELL! I keep trying to calculate what could be a reasonable price for 1 Redbull split between two glasses and 2 shots of Jager. My only conclusion is $10 redbull and $20 for the shots. Freaking-A!
I went here for DineLA and honestly, the menu looked fantastic online.
But I think the best feature about this place was its ambiance. Live music, good seatings, and nice deco. The service was a bit above average.
The food though, which is the most important, was not as good as we expected it to be.
Appetizer, Fall Figs with Prosciutto with Wild Honey and Arugula was actually good. I love figs and prosciutto so everything in that dish was to my delight.
Main dish, though, was below par. I ordered Vintage Prime Rib Eye Steak with Pomme Puree & Horseradish Cream with medium temperature. It was very plain and almost bland. Maybe because I'm a person who likes lots of spices and bold flavor, this tasted very bland, but there wasn't really anything to the steak that was worthy to talk about.
I went with 6 other people so I tried other two options for dineLA, but they were so-so as well.
For dessert I got Kabocha Pumpkin Strudel with Pecan/Cranberry/ Mascarpone and Sage Ice Cream. It was average as well and there wasn't really anything so delicious or special about it. Just the name and description sounded very exotic.
So overall, I wouldn't go back here, paying that much money to eat average food. We were also saying that we couldn't tell why this place was American, French and Japanese cuisine. It was hard to tell.
The best thing about this restaurant is the bar outside the restaurant. We had a pre dinner drink and the atmosphere and service were pretty nice...
Dinner, unfortunately was a different story. Though the restaurant itself is nice in decor and atmosphere, the food and service were sub par. I had the mushroom ravioli with lamb ragout expecting a bolognese type sauce... instead it was fairly flavorless with large chunks of lamb that had yet to render down. I didn't finish it. Hubby had the short ribs and though he finished them, he said they weren't the best.
Service was slow for how early our reservation was. Our waiter disappeared near the end.
I wouldn't recommend Noe. Obviously some people have had better experiences here. I'm just not one of them.
IM sorry but where the fuck do you get a Live AMAZING Pianist in DTLA?-- Live pianist (Rick) playing at the bar- sitting with some girlfriends, chatting away with the surfer bartenders while gazing at the beautiful waitresses before the Grand performances outdoors.... drinking my white wine on a 8pm thursday night, listening to "And I love her", "I Will" , "something" --- my favorite Beatles or whatever song you request and some Billie Holiday "I'll be seeing you" . Eff, this night was more perfect than I could have imagined. Got topped off w a few free glasses of wine while talking about the swells, the surf spots and all things in between. great people here
Oh and i wanted to know one of the hot girls name and the pianist busted out with "MIchelle" --- and yep that was her name. best wingman ever
I really hate to give this place 2 stars but I must. Â
The decor, ambiance and service was good overall. Â Presentation was nice and the staff was helpful but sometimes they would disappear for a while. Â
The food was sub-par at best. Â The small plates/appetizer was the best part of the meal but that was just okay. Â
We order truffle mac and cheese, popcorn chicken, fried calamari and yellow fin tuna. Â The popcorn chicken was the best out of the four. Â All other three dishes were uninspiring and bland
For the entree we had 2 braised short ribs, 2 NY steaks, duck breast, 2 halibuts and a dover sole. Â The short ribs and halibuts were over cooked and dry. Â Sad. Â The duck breast and dover sole was okay. Â The NY steaks turned out to be the best dishes. Â
I would not come back due to the food. Â However, the location is lovely and would be a great place to have a drink outdoors under the downtown skies. Â I really wish this could have been a better dining experience so that I can come back and spend time in their outdoor dining patio.
**MY FIRST TRUFFLE EXPERIENCE**
I'm awkward about the vibe in most hotel restaurants: trendy, arrogant pomp. My inner monologue is always thinking, "Even the GUYS here are paying hundreds of dollars for their shoes." The feel of the bar/lounge was pretty much to my expectations. Cool decor. Wealthy business folks. "I don't belong."
What struck me about the restaurant's ambiance was the cool collection of art on the walls. The layout was both expansive and intimate at the same time. So intimate, in fact, that I think it affected the service we received. We were kind of alone in a corner, and while the view of downtown was spectacular, the service was lackluster.
Ask for the barkeep to spin you up a Keylime Pie Martini. The server might scratch his or her head, but worry not kitty cats, the drink exists and the graham cracker "rim-job" ((hee hee)) is absurdly tasty.
Bread was STUPID good. They served both a cheese roll and a tender brioche-like roll. But what set it off was the duo of butters. Fresh soft butter, and a firmer pat of black-speckled truffle butter. Let's just say I now LOVE truffle and I have the folks at Noe and Tara C to thank for that.
Calamari. Okay, the idea of serving it with sides of curry dust and yogurt sauce?... Totally awesome. The actual squid itself was a bit chewy, but DID include the legs. Whoo hoo! Nothing worse than calamari that is just a bunch of obviously frozen tubes.
I had a Prime New York steak. It came to the table sliced, which I thought was rather odd, but then again, this IS a Japanese-French fusion restaurant, and in Japan you almost never cut your own meat. It was quite possibly one of the best NY Steaks I've ever had. Marbled. Well-seasoned. Juicy. And it certainly didn't need the strange dollop of strawberry compote that accompanied the steak.
The gf started with a braised pork belly appetizer, which was very nice. Her entree was seared duck with foie gras. The duck's skin was sumptuous and, along with the foie gras, made for the beginning of an adipose coma.
Overall, a good meal. If the service was a bit more attentive and the calamari was more tender, I'd have probably bumped them to four stars. I'd relish another opportunity to explore the menu further and give them the official bump.
Decided to try Noe with a friend during restaurant week. Â Really excited because it seems that their menu had some great fig dishes which peeked my interest. Â When we got there the dinning room was sooo loud because they had some large tables of conference attendees there, so we opted to dine al fresco on their patio. Intstead of guiding the way, the host told us to pick a table outside. Â We went outside to their outdoor fire pit/table and had to wait 5 minutes until they popped out again and gave us menus. That was odd. The waitress was nice but didn't pop out for awhile either. Service was rather slow. Nice people but really slow.
The outdoor seating area is nice, but the food was mediocre. We decided to opt for a fig tart not on their dine la menu. It was yummy but sooo small and flimsy looking. Really needed a better crust and hardly any figs or proscutto on it. Kind of a bummer.
We then had the Hearts of Romaine with Crisp Pancetta = plain. Nothing really great about it and looked dull. My friend ordered the steak, which was rather yummy but thought it was odd that they never asked how she wanted it cooked. I ordered the Ravioli which could have been a great dish, but it only came with 2 Raviloi and a great sauce. I was bummed. I'm not into huge portions but they could have spared 1-2 more with it, because the sauce is rather rich.
Dessert was mediocre too. Strawberry shortcake was okay, but the banana shake with it was great. My friend got the Fig Tart with Marscapone which we were looking forward to, but sooo disappointed. It lacked flavor and a little balsamic on top or something to spruce it up would have been great. Plus it was really dry.
Overall was a great place to grab a drink but probably wouldn't din here again.
Four words: duck, seared foie gras. Oh yes. This was my family birthday dinner two weeks ago and it was just amazing, from the bread course to the desserts. Noe has lovely decor and atmosphere, with large windows looking out over a terrace surrounded by the high-rise buildings of downtown. I knew I had to go here as soon as I looked at the menu- Japanese and French fusion, my kind of thing.
To start, my drink was addictive and fun. I had the Key Lime Pie Martini, which comes with a graham cracker crumb rim. Yum! Then the bread and butter came. This was no ordinary butter though. It was BLACK TRUFFLE butter. I knew as soon as I saw those seductive black flecks that this was gonna be GOOD. And it was simply amazing. My bf even fell in love with truffles from that butter. There was also another butter with some sort of cheese blended in that was quite nice, and the bread itself was good enough for all of us to ask for more.
Since it also happened to be Dine LA Restaurant Week, my parents tried that menu, plus a few extras, while I chose the Pork Belly with Fruit "Crostini" as my app and the Duck Breast with Seared Foie Gras and Peach Carpaccio. Travis had the Curry Dusted Calamari and the Prime "Vintage" NY steak. Everything was so delicious! My pork belly was some of the best I have ever had, covered in a flavorful gravy and topped with a dab of creme fraiche (I think). Travis loved his calamari, which came with both legs and rings (always key) and you could season it yourself with curry powder and yogurt dip. Mmmm. My mom got an extra app of seared scallops which were fantastic. Perfectly cooked, they were served over a Summer Corn and Pancetta Ragout that was just mouth-watering.
For our entrees, everything was almost perfect. My duck was heaven, with crisped skin and that seared, buttery foie gras. Travis loved his steak, but the strawberry preserves served with it were rather...odd. My dad had a tasty Stuffed Chicken "Katsu", which was quite similar to a chicken Cordon Bleu. Unfortunately, my mom's blue cheese ravioli was just okay, because the pasta itself was rather undercooked (and there was only ONE ravioli). At least the seafood served on top of it was good.
For dessert, we had three: the Double Fudge Brownie with a Sea Salt Caramel ice cream on top; a fig tart with maple foam; and the Chocolate and Pistachio Bread Pudding. All three were excellent, although I had to take most of my fig tart home (it was great for breakfast the next day).
Overall, I was very happy with the meal. Service could have been a bit more attentive, but the decor and the view from our table were lovely. A big thanks to my parents for such a nice evening!
Spent V-day here with the bf and the experience was memorable and amazing!
NOE is located in Omni Hotel in DT LA. Once you step into the restaurant, you escape the hotel vibe and enter what immediately feels like a high-end signature establishment. If it comes off a bit LA stuffy, don't let it get to you, sit down, relax, and await the wonderful food and service.
It had a prix fixe V-day menu that consisted of 7-course and 3-course options. We decided to order one of each and share everything. There was so much tantalizing food, I cannot even begin to remember, but I will try. Appetizers - oyster shell, french onion soup. Entrees - shrimp/lobster combo, halibut in tomato sauce, duck, NY prime steak frites (missing a few). Desserts - strawberries and cream, complimentary chocolates. I will not waste your and my time and describe each dish. Put it this way, all were perfectly cooked as we requested, juicy, and full of flavor. Each dish was an experience. The bread balls were a doughy delight. Wow!
There is also a comfortable deck to relax with your drinks and perhaps a cigar.
Get dressed up and get ready to experience some awesome food.
Cheers!
5 stars for being the only bar on the Bunker Hill stretch of Grand that's reliably open until 2 AM.
4 stars for a solid old-fashioned, lovely ambiance, and a cigar-friendly patio with a view.
3 stars for average customer service in general.
2.5 stars for good but generally not exceptional or memorable cuisine.
0 stars for incompetence on my last reservation and complete lack of flexibility. Â Booked a large party 3 days in advance, specified desired location, etc. Â I Â was told that it could be accommodated, was thanked for my reservation, and that it was confirmed. Â Showed up 3 days later with a huge party in tow to be told 1) we couldn't have the area requested, 2) no table was set for us, 3) we could be seated in the restaurant, but that the bar menu was unavailable there (the dinner menu is pretty limited and pricey; the bar menu offers a better option to mix-and-match appetizers).
In their defense, management claimed to have called me with questions about the reservation, but I never got the messages, and still wonder why they had questions about a reservation that their own staff booked and confirmed in detail. Â Flexibility and attitude were curt and tight-lipped. Â My group totally picked up on the "we're-doing-you-a-favor-by-letting-you-eat-here" vibe. Â Turned off by the whole situation, they voted as a whole to pick up and go to CASA.
(I must add that Noe was literally 2/3 empty, which really begs the question why the attitude, inflexibility and lack of hospitality - hmmm?)
We moved on to CASA (just downstairs) where despite the packed patio and no reservation, we got a SUPER warm reception, and they actually hustled to cobble together tables and chairs to seat our larger group together on the patio. Â We stayed for almost 3 hours and racked up a heck of a liquor and food bill that could have been spent at Noe.
I will really hesitate to go back to Noe after this experience. Â Definitely cannot recommend for a large party.
Went there with a party of 6 a while ago for the DineLA thing. Â The only memorable dish I can recall are: Â Fresh Oyster (complimentary appetizer), Cured Salmon, Seared Sea Scallop, and the coffee was decent (like the experience more than the coffee itself). Â Oh, love the truffle butter!
We arrived promptly for our dinner reservation and was seated right away. Â The lounge area seemed nice (had to walk pass to get to the restaurant in the back). Â I like the dim lighting and the live piano music. Â The ambiance was pretty good.
Overall, I did like the food at Noe with a few exceptions such as the bread (only so-so), the desserts are too sweet and tasted average. Â The tab came out to $55/person. Â Bottom line, it's a restaurant worth giving a try.
Recently had dinner here for a friends birthday party- with 20+ people in a party, might not make for a smooth transition in between courses, but they did a good job at that. We were late being seated - maybe about an hour in, but were each offered a drink on the house by the hostess so it wasn't all too bad.
We were selecting from the prix fixe dine LA menu- and the majority of the table picked the same dishes. To be honest, the only memorable food I had was the Olive bread (cheese bread was also deeelish) and the truffle butter - amazing!
(side note: the texture and richness is very similar to the pumpkin butter they have at trader joes- go try some!)
As for the courses, the Cured Salmon was good, the New York Prime Steak was a bit bland (ended up giving away 2/3 of it away to birthday boy) and the cheesecake souffle was a little bit disappointing- probably because we saw no graham cracker or ice cream as promised!
Overall, it was pleasant - but the lesson is to go to a great steakhouse if i want great steak!
God bless Noe for accepting a take out order from this weary corporate nomad. Ok, ok, so this self-proclaimed gourmand needed one night off and Noe came to the rescue!
I ordered two appetizers: their caprese salad with aged balsamic vinegar for my bf and the fois gras (what else?) for myself - both were divine and were consumed faster you can say "Yummo!"
Our main entrees included a filet with Yukon mashed potatoes for him, he devoured it and said it was excellent! Â I had the Colorado pork over pureed eggplant mixture for myself. He polished off his plate, however, I couldn't finish mine. Â The flavors were there... but think I would have enjoyed it more had it been a rack instead of a loin.
Dessert? We'll he's got me! ;) Actually, I picked up some Porto's goodies earlier that day.
I love the look on his face when I ask, "Who's the best baby?"
He happily answers: "You are!!!"
(I know we're cheese-balls but it's our silly ritual). Note this was probably the most expensive takeout (130+) but we're all allowed to treat ourselves once in while! ;)
I was actually at the Omni Hotel (where Noe is located) for an event and we were there so early, we decided to go up to Noe for some appetizers.
We sat in the front lounge area, seperate from the restaurant and kind of seperate from the rest of the bar area as well. Â It was situated next to a fireplace. Â Very chill environment.
We decided on 3 appetizers. Â The seared ahi tuna salad, BLT sliders, and chicken flautas.
The ahi was of good quality but was barely seared. Â You could almost see through the sear to the raw meat. Â I think they literally put it on each side for like 2 seconds. Â But yeah, it still tasted good and came with I think a yuzu ponzu sauce or something. Â I didn't look at the menu. Â It came with the tuna layered, with the salad on top. Â The dressing on the salad was just ok and needed more seasoning.
The flautas weren't too bad. Â The texture of the chicken was there, and almost seemed like a warm chicken salad, which my friend's girlfriend agreed. Â This dish also lacked seasoning.
The BLT sliders were interesting. Â Instead of bread or a bun, the "buns" were 2 roma tomato slices, breaded and deep fried, and in between was a slice of fresh mozarella, bacon, and one single piece of arugala. Â Texturally it was interesting but this ALSO lacked seasoning.
Cooking 101... season your food.
I'm giving this place the benefit of the doubt and am still giving it 4 stars for flavors and presentation. Â I would still like to come and dine in the restaurant.
By no means am I put off by the Haute Cuisine ideals: extremely small portion, completely inaccessible preparation, and artistic presentation. In fact, I would say I seek them out...when I have the coin.
But, there was just something missing from Noe. I tried the seasonal tasting menu with wine pairing, and while the ingredients were impeccably fresh, the flavors were off. Services was good, atmosphere nice.
However, if I am going to pay that much money for an experience, I expect everything to be memorable...in fact, I can't remember most of the courses...and, I will end this review on that note...
The room is spare and elegant, the service professional, and, best of all, Noe's food lives up to its surroundings.
I had been to the adjacent bar a number of times following performances at Zipper Hall, and noticed in recent years that the quality of the "bar food" had been raised several notches, so I had high hopes for Noe. Â However, dining at Noe is altogether different from the Omni bar, and is a true epicurean experience. Â As a transplant from NYC, I am often disappointed in what are touted to be the best restaurants in LA. Â But Noe (which often does find its way to those lists) lives up to the claims. Â And, for a refreshing change, the food preparation, presentation and service exceeded my expectations. Â We had expertly prepared sea scallops as well as crab roll appetizers, and the black cod entree was melt-in-your-mouth delicious. Â Everything was fresh and of the highest quality. Â And the wine list was well crafted, with a broad selection and some unusual finds.
So let those "hot" restaurants open and close their doors. Â Noe is a gem, sophisticated and understated. Â Perhaps it's the location within a downtown hotel that keeps it under the radar, but it is definitely on my radar now. Â And it's great to have a Patina alternative in the Disney Hall 'hood.
