Being a French Canadian living in Los Angeles, I was thrilled to find a place that had poutine, I had been missing it for too long! Â I have now been there on a weekly basis to get my 'poutine fix'. Â Even though I tried several kinds they offer, I always preferred the original, I guess it's mainly that we only had the one (original) type of poutine growing up. Â I give it a 4 stars because the fries; a true poutine the way I grew up eating, has larger fries then what they offer, theirs are too thin. Â But it doesn't deter me from going back! Â And I was also excited to see the French Canadian beers they had on draft, la Blanche De Chambly and la Fin du Monde.
C'est sûr que j'vais y r'tourner! :-)
Poutine is good- we got a sampler and our favorite was the duck. Cocktails are pretty nice and my husband loved the beers. The dessert plate is a total rip off- not very good and way too small or the price. Also they advertised "profiteroles" which turned out to be angel food cake ding dongs.
Review Source:Facts:
-Come here on a Monday and you can get poutine in the dining room- otherwise you have to order it at the bar.
-Are you wondering why there are dishes with people's names? Â Don't worry Daniel isn't IN the dish. Â Several dishes are named after regulars.
The staff is fantastic here. Â A friend of mine has been coming here for years as he lives very close to this. Â On this occasion in the dining room however, we had chipotle style oysters ala Bino, and stuffed raviolis. Â It was so filling and delicious.
While the dining experience in the main restaurant was wonderful, I would highly recommend going over to the bar for an even BETTER experience... which is a bit mind numbing to say too...
This place is delicious! Great french canadian twist, delicious beer selection, and tasty poutine! We had quite a few of the specials, along with the poutine with gravy and filet mignon. The place was pretty empty, but it was a Monday night. The bartender served us, and was from Quebec which added a nice authentic feel :) Will definitely be coming back!
Review Source:This is such a great new French-Canadian bar with all of your favorites from the neighbors up north: poutine, Canadian beers, and hockey on TV.
I especially recommend the poutine daniel, which is poutine with duck and peppercorns (its the peppercorns that really bring the dish together!). The bartender is incredibly friendly and welcoming as well. Definitely a great place for drinks and snacks.
P'tit Soleil is like the cool, edgy, mini-Soleil we've all been waiting for and I think it was an incredibly smart move on their part to create this smaller, "younger," more relaxed bar right next door!
I've never eaten at Soleil, so I don't legitimately have anything against the actual restaurant. Personally, I just felt like the vibe was a little too romantic and date-like, so I never felt inclined to dine in (since I like more casual restaurants). That being said, I could NOT stay away from their poutine menu, so I would often pick-up poutine to go with Gloria S. before we found out about P'tit Soleil's soft opening.
During our initial visit the menu was pretty much limited to poutine and drinks, but I've come several times thereafter and their menu has definitely expanded and become more diverse. In addition to the excellent poutine their menu* boasts other yummy options like:
Les champignons fourrés (mushroom caps with pâté - REALLY GOOD!)
Beef Bourguignon
Chicken Croquettes
Escargots
Crême brûlée
Feuilletté de fraise (strawberry tart - ALSO. REALLY. GOOD.)
I also love the service whenever I come here! The waiter usually doubles up as the bartender and each person that's helped us out has been very personable and helpful (though sometimes they can be a little slow).
Overall, P'tit Soleil is a really cool and fun place to eat, drink, and chat with friends or a date. I plan on coming back many, many times!

I just ordered the Poutine Marat or the Filet Mignon and Mushroom Poutine. Pretty awesome but a damn heavy meal. The gravy was a little bit thinner than I was expecting but I did enjoy the flavor. The fries are nice and thin and crispy, just the way that I like it.
I thought the curds would be melted more than they were, I think if the gravy was a little thicker it would have melted the cheese a little bit more, but I can make an exception since I had mine To-Go and that might have altered things.
I am excited to come back and try different varieties of poutine. I have been told that I need to try the "Mike" It's basically the Marat with 2 eggs on top... wow, it sounds amazing.
I might come back on the 5th to try the "Mexican Poutine". Also, all you can eat Mussels and Fries on Wednesday.
The servers were awesome, the food was good... I will be returning to this place.
I really wanted to give 3.5 stars based on the poutine, but the friendly service and interesting menu of small plates pushed them up to 4 stars.
The hubs and I had wanted to try Soleil after leaving the Science & Food Lecture with Alice Waters at UCLA, but since we weren't that hungry and it was late, we decided to try P'tit Soleil instead. Plus we love small plates!
Poutine Christine: fries, cheese curds, and a cognac peppercorn sauce. I'm not a poutine expert, but this was way too salty. We wouldn't have been able to finish this without eating some bread with it.
Duck Cake: like a crab cake but with duck. This was fairly good if you like duck.
Mushroom caps filled with pate: the hit of the night! These were delish and we sopped up the herb-y sauce it was served on with bread. We will definitely order this again next time!
We were too full for dessert (a rare occurrene), but I wanted to try some of their $2 desserts. Next time maybe we can go during happy hour!
Love this place! My coworkers and I came here during our lunch break, and P'tit Soleil did not disappoint. We ordered a salad, chicken sandwich, and shrimp pasta and shared the sampler poutine. The poutine was amazing! We chose Celine, Marat, and the one with oysters! They all were so delectable we had a difficult time deciding which one was our favorite. Our server was also extremely kind, efficient, and friendly. I definitely fell in love with this place and poutine!
Review Source:Based on the food alone, P'tit Soleil already earns a 5-star rating. I found myself feeling pretty homesick a few weeks ago and had a mad craving for poutine (I'm from Canada originally). If you're looking for authentic poutine, rest assured -- this is the real deal. They use real cheese curds (none of that shredded cheese nonsense that other places here use), and the fries are perfectly slightly-crispy-plus-gravy-soaked. Mmmm. They serve traditional poutine as well as all sorts of creative takes on the dish, including the Marat (filet mignon and mushrooms -- my favourite) and the Daniel (duck with dijon sauce). They also have an extensive beer menu, featuring a great selection of beers from Quebec. I've been twice, and both times I've been completely blown away by the food and the service. Â The entire staff is so friendly -- they treat you like old friends. They really go out of their way to make sure you have a great time. My second time there, I was with a group of 10 -- we were treated to a live impromptu acoustic performance by the staff, and Luc, the owner himself, came out and served us dessert. This is easily the best service that I've experienced in any restaurant, and I've been to some pretty friendly places. Highly recommended.
Review Source:Few things are better than combining fries, cheese curds, and gravy into the dish known as poutine. So when a friend told me about this French-Canadian place in Westwood, we absolutely had to dine there.
Apparently this is the smaller, sister, bistro of the Soleil restaurant next door. While the place specializes in tapa-type dishes, you are free to order any item from Soleil. However being a poutine place, we mainly decided to stick with that menu.
The poutine menu is contained in a small booklet that resembles a passport. While you can get the traditional poutine, there are other varieties with toppings such as filet mignon, bolognaise sauce, and mussels.
Since it was difficult to pick only one, we went with the poutine flight where you can choose three different flavors.
1. Marat: filet mignon and mushrooms
2. Christine: topped with a peppercorn sauce
3. Prince Edward Island: mussels au gratin
We couldn't figure out what our kids would like, so the owner came by and said he would make linguini bolognaise which was not on the menu. Hint: if you can't find something on the menu, try asking and they might be able to accommodate your request.
Well, the poutine came and, what can I say, they didn't like long. Apparently my kids love mussels! And these mussels were soft and easy to eat. Of all the choices, I would to say that the Prince Edward Island was my favorite. So much so that we ordered another one. It was a very fancy garlic fries (with mussels).
BTW, the cheese curds squeezed when you bit into them meaning they were fresh.
All in all, it was a very good dining experience and would absolutely return whenever we visit the LA area. The wait staff and the owner were very helpful. After all there are other poutine flavors to try alongside a beer from Quebec.
Fries? Â Gravy? Cheese? That just sounds like paradise...and then add filet mignon and mushrooms??? Â WOWWEEEEE. Â Saw P'tit Soleil on a KCRW email and immediately wanted to check it out since fries are probably my favorite food in the whole world..not the healthiest but whatever. Â
Dropped by with a friend and ordered the sampler (3 for $18). Â We tried the Marat, traditional, and Sheridan (chicken and peas which was alright). Â Like everyone says in the prior reviews, the Marat is to die for. Â Just absolute YUM. Â Salty, creamy, chewy. Â I then ordered a small size of the Celine (bolognese, cheese and fries) which tasted like spaghetti but with french fries. Â Delish but after tasting the Marat, uncomparable. Â Oh and apparently you can order from the sister restaurant next door if you want.
Oh yeah and our server/bartender Mary Eve was the nicest server I have ever met..EVER! Â soooo nice. Â Super friendly and excited we wanted to try poutine. Â
I will definitely be back again...maybe next week! Â I better start running to shed the pending pounds.
**A FRENCH-Y HAPPY HOUR ON THE WEST SIDE**
Next door to its main restaurant, Soleil.
Cute place, low-key, and noisy around 6PM.
HAPPY HOUR - 4-7PM (15% off your entire bill)
ORDERED:
POUTINE DU PRINCE EDWARD - $10
French fries, cheese curds with mussels au gratin was fantastically delicious with every bite.
MUSSELS AU GRATIN - $9
Redundant since we also ordered the poutine with mussels. It was a bit on the oily bland side. I liked it, but didn't love it.
BEEF BOURGUIGNON - $10
This was good. Nice sauce and tender meat. I could eat a pot full. I miss France already.
LES CHAMPIGNONS FOURRES - $8 **WINNER**
Mushroom caps filled with pate. Wonderfully tasty with the garlic sauce. Reminded me of escargots. I'm going to double up on this next time. Our favorite dish on the menu.
LES P'TIT DESSERTS 4 FOR $7
We tried the Domino, Tarte Au Sucre, Creme Brulee, and the Feuillette. Our vote was for the tart. Simple and classic.
Very cool and friendly staff. Definite plus.
WILL RETURN and HIGHLY RECOMMEND.
For those that have a craving for that famous Quebec dish of POUTINE (french fries with brown gravy and cheese curd) P'tit Soleil is the place to go! Being 6.5 months pregnant and craving this dish that I only knew was being served in Canada I was bummed. I wish I could have gotten on a plane and got this dish, but I can't. My husband found this place on Yelp and brought me here as a surprise. The Poutine Mario (traditional) brought back memories of when I first tried it in Quebec, Canada when visiting family. The Poutine Marat (filet mignon and mushrooms) was really good too! I definitely will be back here!!
Review Source:YUM poutine!
Delicious. Â Go now. Â Well, maybe go later, since when I was there last (around beginning of December), the place was still very new and smelled of new paint/construction.
The one with filet mignon and mushrooms was my favorite. Â Although I hear that if you are a regular you can potentially request your own style and if it's popular enough it may actually end up on the menu!
Can't wait to be in the Westwood area again.
This is the French Canadian version of the restaurant next door, Soleil. They have 6 different types of poutine on their menu, including a flight option (choose your own three). They also had a few other small items on their menu. They use skinny shoestring fries instead of the thicker fries, but it actually didn't taste bad with the skinny fries- they just got more soggy quicker.
Note: everything on the menu is literally petite!
luc and conrad are tha homies. hooked it up fat. the marat is dope (not sure if this is named after Marat Safin but i highly doubt it is but i like to think that it is because he was one of my favorite tennis players and threw some of the best tantrums of all time. OF ALL TIME).
def comin back. word is bond.
After working in the service industry for a few years, you seriously learn to appreciate good service and last night's experience at P'tit Soleil was nothing short of OUTSTANDING. P. and I sat at the bar and the bartender, Conrad, was delightful and made our dining experience enjoyable and relaxing.
We had found this place on Yelp, and though it only had 4 reviews, thought we should give it a go. I mean, who has ever heard of a poutine bar? Also, to be honest, I had tried poutine once (albeit at a hybrid Korean-American bar in Koreatown) and HATED it. But, I threw all caution to the winds and decided to come here.
BEST. DECISION. EVER.
We had the flight which allows you to choose 3 of their poutines - we had the Marat (P.'s favorite), the Malik (my favorite), and the Christine. The Marat was delicious - lots of filet mignon, mushrooms, and SAUCE. The Malik was soooo good. It had merguez sausage mixed in with a spicy creamy sauce which made this dish, hands-down, the most savory. The Christine was also really good with its peppercorn cream sauce. We ended up also ordering their Crevettes Heather (shrimp smothered in a cognac cream sauce) which were to die for. To close out our meal, we tried the Feuilleté de Fraise - a flaky biscuit with whipped cream and sliced strawberries in between. Luc, the owner, came by and talked with us for a bit and also brought out a mini crème bruleé for us to try which was perfectly browned and creamy.
This was easily one of the best dining experiences we've ever had. We will definitely be back!!
After hearing about a location in California that ACTUALLY served poutine, I was all over this restaurant! Being from the midwest, poutine is one of my favorite comfort foods and P'tit Soleil makes a delicious (albeit very fancy) version of a classic Quebecois dish. The fries here are cut very thin, whereas typically they are steak cut.
I ordered the large Malik ($12) poutine, which is french fries topped with cheese curds, sausage, and a harissa sauce (tastes like a light and sweet buffalo sauce). Delicious.
My boyfriend got the Marat ($15) (which I really wanted to get, but he beat me to the punch.) Fries topped with cognac beef gravy, mushrooms, cheese curds, and filet mignon. Mouth-gasm, I'm telling you!
Got free beer from the friendly bar-lady because they had a beer/poutine pairing yesterday and there were leftover bottles. A nice, dark Austrian beer to go with some awesome food. Neither of us finished all of our food (though we got pretty close!).
They also have another restaurant next door that serves classical French dishes and features a great brunch menu. I'm definitely going to come back!
They also serve a version of poutine with foie gras (for $25), and they are currently serving their Thanksgiving version which has fries, gravy, turkey, english peas and cranberry sauce.
It's all about the Marat, ladies and gentlemen... filet mignon, mushrooms and heavenly creamy gravy over perfectly cooked fries... I could eat it all day. It's so rich and flavorful and flawless. I've tried at least half the varieties of poutine they serve here, now and the Marat is hands down my absolute favorite.
Also tried their seasonal Thanksgiving poutine on our last trip here, which was great! turkey, gravy, cranberry sauce... all in perfect proportions.
If you're undecided on what to get, the trio "flight" is a great value and you get to try any 3 varieties you like... it's a ton of food - more than getting the large of any individual one.
Their desserts here are all pretty good, but they are TINY...not worth the price you pay. Same with the meat pie... it was good, but overpriced.
Service is great - the waiter/bartenders have always been friendly and attentive.
MmmmMmm of course Westwood's Quebecois restaurant Soleil would take (what I think is) its best dish, and plant a specialty eatery next door. Â This is the only poutine bar I know of!
Of the many poutine varieties they have, I recommend the Christine (black peppercorn sauce), ÃŽle-du-Prince-Édouard (w buttery garlicy mussels) and Malik (a splash of harissa based sauce, and soft merguez sausage chunks).  Also had the plate of mussels, egg rolls, and some other little fried snacks that I don't remember due to the blackcherryvodka/cran/soda cocktails the friendly bartender kept coming.  Will have to come back for happy hour 4-6pm. Great for drinks and indulging in fried snacks. :)
I saw the "coming soon" sign for this place a couple of months ago and anxiously waited for its opening ever since. I LOVE Soleil's poutine menu but always felt a little wary of sitting down and just ordering $12 worth of food, so always ordered takeout instead. Now you can sit down, order poutine and their other yummy appetizers over drinks!
We went yesterday during their "soft" opening (they hadn't advertised their opening yet), so the three of us were the only ones there. The bartender/server was extremely friendly and overall, we enjoyed our first visit!
Cocktail drinks run around $10-12 (and are very strong!), appetizers around $6. They have a lot of unique food on their menu, but since a lot of it wasn't available yet, we opted for the chicken croquettes (and, of course, poutine). Everything was delicious. Will definitely come back when their full appetizer menu is opens up :)
