Stopped by for a late lunch at what must have been shift change.  We were essentially the only people there (a family was leaving as we got there)

We ordered a few slices, glasses of water and sangria.  The pizza was good - at the time our options were pepperoni and cheese.  The cheese was good and the pepperoni was good but very greasy (like a pouring off the pizza when picked up to eat).  The sangria was good; however there was way too much ice in the glass and very little sangria.  We had to ask 3 times for the water.

As I mentioned, it was at shift change  and our server asked us to settle our tab as her shift was ending...not sure why she couldn't have just transferred us to the new waitress  (unless she wanted her tip before leaving) and we got to here a new employee getting introduced to her training and having a very brief orientation.   Part of this was our server (who must have been the owner and/or manager kept stressing how important it was to be nice to her customers...I thought it a bit ironic as she had given us the impression that we were inconveniencing her.

Also, the manager or owner had my human resources training tingling as she asked the new girl to write down her contact info and social security number on a piece of paper (hope an I-9 is coming soon)

Food was pretty good; however there are a lot of options in North End that offer better service.  I was also a bit shocked by the cost - 2 slices and 2 glasses of sangria were over $30

We love these kind of local restaurants! Very small yet affordable! On this night we ordered salad for three and a Pepperoni -peppers pizza. The Red Sox game was playing on the tv which added to the experience. Saad and Pizza were awesome fresh and not too heavy! Definitely a come back!

Fantastic for an inexpensive and delicious lunch! Avoid the Hanover St. restaurants and just one block happen upon this locals hangout. The pizza was really delicious with a great balance of dough, sauce and topping. We split the house salad, which was made with fresh crispy lettuce, bell peppers, onions, tomatoes and mushrooms tossed in a vinaigrette. If I lived in Boston, this would be a regular haunt for me and my friends.

I grabbed a pizza here the other night as I was sick of continuously going to Regina or Ernesto's for za'.  So I gave the Push a try.

I thought it was good, not the best stuff I've had, but good.  I picked up a Pushcart Pizza, with the sausage, roni, and onions on there.  Price wasn't over the top like at Regina which I appreciated, and the pie was ready right when I got there which was nice too.

I wouldn't write home about the pizza, but I will write about it here on Yelp.. ha!   Overall good za', not the greatest, nothing like Ernesto's which I still feel is the best in the north end.

We stopped in this spot for a drink because we had a table waiting for us at a restaurant across the street. To be honest, this wasn't a good choice on our part. Pushcart Pizzeria is not a bar, it's a pizza place and the pizza looked AMAZING! However, the wine selection was extremely weak and the hard alcohol they have available is just weird. It made no sense. But again...this is our fault, not theirs. This is a place for pizza, not wine and cocktails.

$3 slices of delicious pizza. Or grab a whole pizza for a group, I promise they'll love you for it.

I've never actually eaten in the restaurant, but I get their slices and pizza to go all the time. When I first moved to the North End everyone raved about Ernesto's down the street on Salem. I gave Ernesto's three tries and never really liked it. Then I tried a slice of cheese at Pushcart and any hopes of ever losing weight went out the window. It's quick, and super tasty. My top choice for a slice in the N End.

Ate absolutely nothing. By smell alone the pizza gets 5 stars.

Drank absolutely alot, while waiting for a table across the street. By intoxication alone, drinks get 5 stars. Price not too bad either.

No flak for coming to kill time while waiting for a table at the spot across the street, but I think next time, we'll just come here to eat pizza and get shitfaced. TV's make it a good spot for a Sunday night if you're into that kind of thing.

I must say when i first tried pushcart pizza i LOVED it, but the service has totally turned me off.  There is one particular server who is completely inattentive, and when you can finally flag her down she acts angry that you need something.  i'm not a high maintenence patron and the service was horrible.  The pizza is great- best bet is sitting at the bar to avoid the waitress.  Ask for their hot garlic oil it is amazing on the pizza.

LOVE the pizza here, my friend turned me on to having the hot garlic oil and now I just cannot eat my pizza crust without it!

The pizza pies and slices are cheap and yet the pizza is great. Not being a Regina's fan makes me anti-North End or something, but Pushcart, Ernesto's and Umberto's are the high-ranking pizza joints in my opinion.

    Delicious!

We stopped in for a beer while waiting for the nicer North End restaurants to open for dinner.  The place is casual and simple, with pizzas and calzones.  The waitress was helpful with suggestions for food and sight-seeing.  Prices seemed a little high for such a place, but maybe it's typical for the North End.

I have been going to the Pushcart for 6 years, the service is always tops and the owner is always pleasant. Regina has nothing on The Pushcart Cafe. Pizza is ALWAYS PERFECT. And the pumpkin beer is PERFECT.

For those complaining about the pizza being too hot they can always go to the freezer in the supermarket

Nothing great about their Pizza, Ernestos down the road is better. Even the service was ok, nothing great, pretty sure I wont be coming back here again

Horrible staff, someone should just put them all out of their misery.

Pizza is good though id rather go somewhere where the pizza is crap just to be treated with a little kindness and respect.  How this place is still in business is beyond my comprehension.

I have to say, when we come to the North End every so often, we ALWAYS end up at Pushcart. That's how good it is! No, it's not just a bar to drink at (though many people do hang at the bar if that's their thing) or pizza to sober up with. The pizza has a unique, authentic flavor to it, is just the right amount of crunchy, and is not greasy. The calzones are equally mouth-watering. You can choose up to 4 toppings--we always go with meatball, eggplant, and cheese (already included). The dipping sauce it comes with is a treat in itself--so. good. The best part is that you won't break the bank here just because it's the North End. A 16" cheese pizza is just $12, and same for the calzones, which are huge! We are a family of 4 and we usually get a pizza and a calzone and are plenty full after!

As for the owner--not sure what everyone's problem is. We've been going to Pushcart for several years now and Angelo has been nothing but nice to us, as well as to his wait staff. Of course, we are also respectful of him and don't have egos the size of Boston, lol. The waitresses are always polite and courteous, too. Yes, they are busy during rush hour and move quickly, but they are just efficient workers.

    I'd give 10 stars if I could!

I am so glad my sister and I stumbled onto this place last weekend. We didn't have to wait a ridiculous amount of time to eat, we were able to chat and watch the playoff games, all the while sipping on some wine and chowing down on some stellar pizza. It's a smaller place, but I didn't feel like I was packed into a sardine can. They had a smaller wine selection, but the price for the bottles wasn't as bad as some restaurants in the area. What is about an $11 bottle in a store will run about $24 bucks here. The pizza menu is basic, but the pizza itself is really great. We ended up getting a cheese and tomato combo and both of us ate more than we needed to because it was too good to stop! I'll definitely be coming back here. It's relaxed and seems like a perfect low-key place to have a drink and some grub and watch a game.

I would rate the pizza a 4/5, while the service is a 1/5.

I have ordered/picked up and dined in many times, so I feel as though this review is quite just considering the amount of food consumed/time spent here.  also, my family owns a pizzeria in NY, so pizza basically runs in my veins.  that being said, i want to share my experiences with fellow yelp viewers and reviewers.

the owner of this restaurant is about as far from a good businessman as he can get.  he is short tempered, extremely abrasive, pushy and downright condescending to both his staff, as well as his patrons.  there has not yet been a visit where I haven't witnessed him snapping at his waitstaff or giving some customer attitude for a comment he interprets as a personal jab at himself.  the guy is a straight up bully.  if you have the balls to stop here for pizza, be sure to maintain your distance from him.

in addition, the pizza is somewhat expensive- $4.00 for a slice of cheese?  yeah, it's good, but considering the absolutely terrible service, namely from the owner, it's almost not even worth your time.  just the other day i was handed the incorrect check, paid and when i sent it back for revisions, the owner informed me- not even asked if it was okay- that he would give me the change to make up the difference.  um, first of all, that was your fault and secondly, i am the customer and if you'd like for my continued financial support, you had better give me either something on the house or a sincere apology- neither of which I experienced.

my recommendation is that IF you decide to give this place a chance, order for pick up to avoid this north end terror.

This is the most seriously underrated spot in the North End. The pizza is really good, if a little greasy. The menu is limited (pretty much limited to pizza, calzones ans salad) but it's a great place to sit at the bar, have a few slices, and have either beer or a mixed drink (try the Americano and the Italiano. I forget which is which, but one is white wine and sprite and the other is, I think, red wine and sprite. I forget exactly, but they were both refreshing on a summer night). Plus it's never crowded and a great place to watch a game as they always have the volume on for their plasma TVs.

As someone fortunate enough to live around the corner this is my favorite spot if I'm just feeling like heading out for a quick, cheap, dinner & drink.

To the reviewer who wrote that the crust reminds them of cafeteria pizza, I wonder where they went to school because when I have kids one day I'll send them there! The crust at Pushcart is really good, and I am really glad I gave them a chance, because that review alone almost convinced me not to go there, which would have been my loss.

Finally got a chance to try the pizza here, and wow am I glad I did. We got a half pepperoni, half meatball pizza and it came out piping hot and amazing.  We never had meatball on pizza before, but decided to try this on a recommendation from a friend. Pushcart will also give you a warm oil garlic dipping sauce for your pizza which was awesome. In addition to offering that awesome oil dipping sauce, they also accept credit cards, and sell pepperoni or cheese pizza by the slice. Previously, my favorite place to grab a slice was Panino Express, but Pushcart will be my go to from now on.

For the north end pizza battle (excluding Regina's, which doesnt even get honorable mention), its very close and I wouldn't even hesitate to go somewhere else if one place were crowded. But, I'd have to declare Pushcart the winner, with Ernesto's and Express tied for second.

The pizza is easily the thinnest and best tasting, and the price (for a whole pizza) is pretty solid considering its Boston. Beer prices are pretty average for Boston bars too, which is nice and necessary to wash down the slices.

Like I said, if Pushcart is crowded, the other places will easily satisfy. But given the choice, there's no equal.

Decent pizza, and the guy in the mask (it's Halloween) gave us a free piece of candy and shook our hands. I'm glad we stopped in. But feta cheese instead of ricotta? No thanks! (Goats taste funny.)

When I travel, I don't like to keep an agenda or itinerary. It makes vacation feel like work and that's not what I'm after. However, being in Boston, I knew I had to do two things: try (in vain) to pick up the accent and grab some amazing pizza. Well friends, grab I did.

As I walked around the North End, soaking up the unique ambiance you can only find in Boston's Little Italy, I searched for a pizzeria that would be able to serve me beer as well as a slice. Of course, there were several options I mean, I was in North End. However, it was Pushcart that really caught my attention. With their sign that said "Cheap Beer During Patriots Games", I knew I would be among kin. Walking in, I was slightly intimidated because the lighting is on the more dim side of the spectrum, but my server was so friendly I couldn't say no.

A slice of cheese and a pint of Sam Adams ran me about $6 which is pretty amazing. It was after I tasted my pizza that I began to realize that this unassuming pizza place was probably a staple of the North End. Clearly, after reading many reviews on Yelp, I was right. This is definitely a recommend for tourists looking for an authentic North End pizzeria that's a little off the beaten path but full of Italian goodness.

I first stumbled on Pushcart the first time I came to Boston with a friend. I was impressed with the portions and I loved that the windows were open. It was small, but cozy. The food is delicious and it's reasonably priced, considering a calzone will last you three meals if you decide to bring the leftovers home.

After relocating to Boston, this has become a staple when I have friends in town. Naturally, they want to see the North End, but I try to avoid Hanover at all costs. So, the location is great. Plus, the selection always makes everyone happy as well. I've had a lot of terrible pizza in Boston (albeit, never in the North End) and Pushcart is the complete antithesis of that. Not to mention the great atmosphere! (Guess I've never seen the owner on a bad day?) By far, my favorite pizza/calzone restaurant in Boston.

Just what I wanted.  Tired and hot from walking, we found this in Little Italy.  Great pizza and calzones that was just what I was expecting.  Thin crust 16" pizza for $12.  Probably enough for 3 people.  I also had blueberry beer which also hit the spot.  I usually don't like fruit beers but this was great on a warm day.
A church parade came down the street with their plastic saint on a stretcher.  People taped money to the outside.  Strange fundraiser???  I didn't get it.

Well, we were in the North End after a tough morning, and found ourselves in need of a 1pm beer. Pushcart was the first place we found that could make that happen, and as a bonus, they could produce pizza to go with that beer.

I loved how Pushcart feels tucked away and off the beaten path; we came in after the lunch rush & had our pick of seats. The staff were friendly & accommodating, the blueberry beer actually tasted like blueberries in a GOOD way, and the buffalo chicken pizza was too spicy for me but so good that I ate several slices anyway.

I can't wait to go back.

    Overhyped.
This place would've gotten a 3-star but for the fact that our server kept saying that the Greco Romano was AWESOME GREAT YOURE GONNA LOVE IT.  If we were standing outside debating whether to go in, maybe I'd be more privvy to the bait and switch...

The pizza came to the table way too hot (though better than not).  The crust was meh.  The olives were bland.  But the tomatoes were tasty.

    The potty is presentable.

Why they have to keep the door open bc the oven makes the place too hot... uh, get a fan.

Maybe the other pizzas are better, but meh, me thinkso not!

Would definitely hit this place again. I stopped in when I was in Boston on business. Squeezed in time for a hockey game and had a couple hours to walk around before the game. Of course I headed to the North End; it's one of my favorite places in Boston.

The pizza was okay, very quick. Definitely a better slice than most in Boston. Nobody else was there. I actually went on a friend's recommendation. I'd been planning to go to Regina, but my buddy insisted Pushcart was far better. Of course, I still can't compare, but Pushcart has the fact that there isn't a constant hour-long wait in it's favor.

The waitress was great. Really nice and friendly, we chatted a bit. Also met the manager who saw my hockey jersey and mentioned that Milan Lucic (of the Bruins) stops in every now and then.

I'll be back again next time I'm in town.

P.S. After your pizza, walk over to Hanover Street and have tiramisu & a cappuccino at Caffe Vittoria. You can thank me later. :)

On several occasions we have attempted to take family to Pizzeria Regina in the north end, but it is always like an hour wait.

In the end we always end up at pushcart and it is almost as good.
Really the only thing better about Regina is the oven, and it is not worth the wait.

    Pushcart makes an excellent pie.
They are not the friendliest, but once you get past that you will be fine. They also take credit card unlike pizzeria Regina and that's good since it is not cheap.

If you want cheap go to Papa Johns and their fake pizza.
If you want real pizza that tastes like pizza used too then try Pushcart, you will not be disapointed.

I broke my vow to never drink Limoncello again because it makes my brain do funny things.  But, I had to just have one shot of it on a Saturday night post-wedding.  It was damn good and worth whatever it was that they charged me.  Ice ice ice cold, almost frozen.  Completely refreshing and had a good solid kick.

That's all I can say about Pushcart Caffe.

Pushcart is the best pizza in the North End.  Don't argue.   Pizza Regina is overrated.

No pretensions besides the sports crowd thing.  Mix of beer and testosterone.  Arguments about teams and lots of baseball hat wearing Patriots junkies.

Free pizza on Mondays.  I'm there.

I had been to this place once before and thought their pizza was good, so four of us headed over and sat at the bar for a drink. The guy at the bar (who I believe was the owner) asked if we would be eating and we explained we would like to put our name in for a table. After a while, we had changed our minds, so next time the guy came by, I said "when you have a chance, we'd like to order some food". This guy actually said "So the world stops for you when you want to order?" and walked away - My wife and I were floored, we were in disbelief. He ignored us for another 15 minutes and then said what can I get ya - My wife said something to the effect of "Are you sure you have time now?" and he walked away again.

We left some cash on the bar and got out of there, avoid this place at all costs.

How can the owner treat customers this way and turn away business??

    Summary:
    - Owner has a bad attitude
    - Avoid this place, there is better pizza in the north end anyhow.

I'll let you in on a secret.... Pushcart is the dark horse for the "best pizza in Boston" award.    It's not fancy and it's not particularly Italian, however I stopped going to Regina's after I had my first Pushcart pizza.

    Recommendations:
    - The sausage is wonderful
    - They have hot peppers (not crushed red peppers) that are unbelievable if you like spicy
    - The mix green, red and yellow bell peppers into one mix if you want them on your pizza... again, excellent.

I love the Pushcart.  The pizza is good, the atmosphere is laid-back and the staff is friendly and attentive.  I live right down the street, so whether it's picking up a pie on my way home, hanging out on a Sunday for some beers during a game, or free slices on Monday night, it's the perfect place.

Definitely check out free slice night!  Starting at 7pm on Mondays, the owner/server starts passing out free slices to anyone with a drink.  And they just keep coming.  Great deal.

    They are closed on Tuesdays.

I can't beleive I never noticed this place before! It is tiny, so if you have a big group you'd be better off somewhere else.

It definitely has a neighborhood restaurant feel, if you know what I mean.  The game was on, locals dropped in for drinks and it was a very casual environment. Which was pretty cool.

The menu is limited--only pizzas, calzones and salads, so if you don't want any of those, your out of luck.  It was a busy night, but the waitress made sure to check in on us often.  Not overbearing or rude.

The pizza was pretty good, and it was large enough for sharing (plus relatively cheap for 6 people).

    Sssssssucks!

My friend was in town and he wanted to try some north-end pizza. I tried to get us over to Ernestos (godlike) but a north-end'er wanted us to check out Pushcart. We walked in and tried to move two smaller tables together for our group of 6, out of the shadows the owner/chef popped out and made a huge scene "LET ME DO THAT" (Keiko: I FEEL YOU). After some akward silence, when it came to ordering he actually walked away while someone was mid sentence. I guess he heard it, but what an ass!

As for the pizza I did think it was good, but was so hungry by the time it arrived the owner could have punched me in the face with cheese on his hand and I would have been happy. Steer clear!

BEWARE:  If you were sent to Pushcart while waiting for your table at Al Dente (next door) YOU WILL GET RIPPED OFF!  I spent a hefty $36 for two beers and two small glasses of their cheapest Chardonnay!   I think the beers are $5 and wine is $12 a glass. (there must have been little diamonds and specks of gold in their wine)

And don't try to sit down if all you ordered were drinks.  You will be asked to leave if you sit at a table without ordering food.  (I guess I should have ordered three pizzas instead of drinks for four!)

It's too bad that I had such a bad experience here because I really want to be enthusiastic about the free-pizza-with-a-drink Monday special.  Basically the pizza cook (maybe he is the owner as well?) chastized me for eating the left over crust of my boyfriend's pizza (he was drinking a beer, I was having only water, so therefore was not allowed to touch the free pizza).  I guess I'm at fault for not understanding "the rules", but the way he treated me made us both so uncomfortable that we couldn't wait to pay the tab and get the hell out of there!  The most embarrassing part was that at first I thought he was joking (because would someone really be that rude to a customer?) and tried to joke back...until I realized he was very, very serious.  I have to say, though, that the woman behind the bar was nice and look genuinely embarrassed by him.
So, bottom line, lots of TVs, expensive beer, mediocre pizza and a great deal on Monday nights, but don't you dare touch that left over crust or pizza man will lay the smack down.
