    Every time I come here, I debate getting something else on the menu, but I always fall back to the Pumpkin Ravioli. It's savory, with a hint of sweetness and just the right portion. I always wonder whether or not I'm going to need more food, but it's the perfect size.

    Everyone on staff is so friendly, helpful, and attentive.

    I have to say, this is my favorite restaurant in all of Los Angeles. That says a lot.

    Had the Poulet Christine for lunch @ Soleil, and it was delicious. The only thing that sucked was the music, seemingly piped in from a convention hotel lobby. Good thing the meal helped me block that out!

    I must admit, Soleil lives up to the hype!

    I went here with some of my friends after my Finals were over. It is not far from the UCLA campus, about a 20 to 25 minute walk. We made reservations for the AYCE Mussels, and we were excited to try them out.

    To start off, we ordered escargots and pumpkin ravioli as appetizers. The escargots were delicious, having the right balance between soft and chewy, and it was beautifully drenched in a butter/olive oil sauce blend. The pumpkin ravioli was sweet, with a subtle taste of cinnamon and nutmeg. The taste reminded me of sweet potatoes, so I was surprised that it was actually pumpkin! We were also served warm, crusty bread in which we dipped into the butter/olive oil mixture from the escargots.

    Now, the mussels: it was a four-course meal of just pure, protein-building shellfish. Each course had its mussels cooked in different kinds of sauces: wine, cream, beer, and even curry! Fries were served on the side, crispy thin and salty. It was good.

    The service was excellent: our waiter was attentive and even surprised us by slyly sliding into our conversation, as a joke. It was hilarious. He also took pictures of us, to commemorate our first dining experience at Soleil.

    In the end, the bill came out to be around $98, but we tipped our waiter generously. The final came out to be around $120, I think. Regardless, it was a wonderful night out after a long year of school. I would certainly come back here again!

    P.S. I'm also interested in trying their Poutine at their adjacent restaurant, Petit Soleil. Until next time!

    I went here a million times while I was in LA. The food is constantly great. When P'tit opened up they stopped serving poutine in the main restaurant, I think. Which is a shame. P'tit is a bit more casual but it's still a fun atmosphere for a date. Highly recommended.

    I do not really like their food, I'll give it an A-OK, but their service is A-WESOME. The only 2 things I liked were the escargot that is really delicious and fragrant, as well as their generous portion of onion soup.

    Reasonable wine list. Great steak,  duck, and salads.  Plus amazing bouillabaisse on the first weekend of the month, Thursday thru Sunday. Aioli!

    I had the pleasure of having brunch at Soleil, and take out for P'tit Soleil.  So happy with both experiences.  

    At Soleil - we came in for Mother's Day Brunch.  Opted to try the lunch menu and have the Owner's platter - which I could eat all day, every day, the Beet Carpaccio salad (my only disappointment was that I assumed the beets would be thinly sliced like an actual carpaccio dish), and the Croque Madame - another new favorite of mine.  My mother and I love to share our dishes, so it worked out perfectly.  

    At P'tit Soleil - my cousin was talking about the poutine she had in Canada, and I remembered reading about the poutine at P'tit.  Considering how great my last experience was, we quickly put in an order for take out because I had my dog with us.  We chose the Glee Poutine - a flight of three different types.  We selected the Marat (Filet Mignon), Simon Chen (Italian Sausage), and the traditional Mario.  My absolute favorite is the Marat!  And, obviously I couldn't go without trying the Creme Brulee and Tarte Tatin this time around.  The Tarte Tatin and the fresh whipped cream was amazing even in a styrofoam to go container.  Delicious!

    Service was amazing at both locations, and extremely grateful that my little pomeranian was welcomed, and acknowledged.  I will be back many times!  Merci Beaucoup!

    So I did some research trying to find authentic poutine & found P'tit Soleil, a French-Canadian restaurant in Westwood. Sure, it was a 45 minute drive but screw it. I wanted the real thing & wouldn't settle for anything less. This restaurant, for some reason is divided into two smaller restaurants. The first, P'tit Soleil, is more bar/appetizers/dining room whereas Soleil, the second, was more dining room only, no poutine. Don't ask me why- it just was. There were little Quebec flags on each table and a few Canadian flags on the bar. It's a smaller, intimate restaurant. The light is a little dimmed but you can still see normally. They even had like 6 different types of poutine, none of which had duck throughout the top of it.

        The service, first of all, was impeccable. The waitress was really nice & checked up on us a lot, almost to a fault! But her suggestions were well placed because the food was fantastic. We got the Maudite beer & a Dirty French Canadian, which was a little strong for me. Since we were there mainly for the poutine, we went for that first. We ordered the poutine Mario (original) and the poutine Christine (this type had peppercorn throughout the gravy). They ROCKED! The fries were crisp, not soggy and perfect. The gravy was velvety & luxurious. And the cheese curds were just melting into it all. *slober* After out whole meal was done, he even debated on getting another order of poutine...

        Then we had both ordered the pumpkin ravioli. I don't normally get ravioli only because it's usually too doughey and doesn't have enough filling but this place got it right. It wasn't gummy at all and there was a considerable about of a pumpkin-cinnamon-nutmeg filling inside. We both savored it.

        Because we hadn't eaten enough, we also ordered a Petit dessert. We got the Ah Caramel, a small, almost DingDong-like treat. It was served very cold which made breaking the chocolate shell fun. The chocolate shell contained within it a cute little white cake with a thin layer of caramel down the center. It was a good & also cheap ($2!).

    Overall, we had 3 courses and were perfectly full, not stuffed! I would DEF go here again and order even more poutine! I highly recommend it!

    French Canadian food.  If you're looking for poutine, this is a fantastic place to get some.  They have an adjacent location right next door dedicated to poutine only, so you could imagine the variety they have to offer.

    Their brunch selection's pretty tasty and simple. They also offer champagne with Sunday brunch.

    The interior design is very humble and low key. Don't be fooled though cause their food, especially their desert is exquisite. I had lamb chops with mustard sauce and the mustard wasn't overpowering and it was well balanced by the richness of the creme sauce. Their putin is just out of this world. With cognac reduction sauce, and 100% non-fridgerated gravy, classic Putin Christine carries that little bit of "umph". I then had creme brulee as a desert and it was made in the most authentic way.

    I will be lying to say that it's a michelin star quality, and I would say the taste of the food is 3 star but the waiters' enthusiasm to have you here and friendliness brings it to star 4.

    Definitely worth an adventure.

    Duck confit salad. Need I say more?

    I don't know why it took me six years of living in Westwood to finally get around to trying Soleil, but I'm glad I finally did. It's a delicious French restaurant that's un-pretentious, just focused on serving classic dishes that are exactly how they should be made and served. Menu is good sized with lots of choices. Highly recommended!

    I had a quiche and a couple bites of a soup and of the fries. The quiche was decent, solid, unspectacular. Not something I would order again. Perhaps I ordered the wrong thing.

    Come to mama!

    PARKING: Street or valet. Street has credit card meters so it's quite convenient!

    FOOD:
    -AYCE Mussels: YUM-O. They come in four flavors: white wine, white wine with cream, curry, and beer. My personal favorite was the original white wine with it's crisp flavor. The white wine with cream was slightly overpowering, and I've been becoming more lactose intolerant as of late. Curry flavor was so interesting but incredibly salty. Beer was also a nice pick! The mussels come with a side of skinny (like french people) fries. DELICIOUS. Could not keep my hands off of them.
    -Warm spinach salad: Not amazing, but it definitely gave the meal a better balance.

    SERVICE:
    -Our waiter was off and on, but his charming french accent definitely helped his cause. 18% for you good sir! He was prompt with our mussel refills and encouraged us to eat more than what we had intended.

    Great place :) Please note that the poutine fries are served in their bar area only! I believe it's called P'tit Soleil.

    This is my neighborhood/local go-to for great food, at a reasonable price. We have spent alot of time in France, and this reminds us of a great local cafe we use to visit in Arles.  Luc is the owner, he is AWESOME. Always present at the place with the 100-watt smile and greeting everyone with a friendly "Hello". The place is quaint and charming. We always sit out on the patio with the heaters. We start with a Kir Royal to drink. Then move into the menu. I usually get the Lamb Shank, which is braised greatness! Then I get the Feuillete, which is light and delicious!  They have a new full bar next door, but I love the simple old place for my everyday eating. For the price point and quality of food this is really hard to beat, and it is actually a steal!

    The menu here is exquisite.  Everything we ordered was delicious.  The waiter was attentive and had a great personality.  The appetizer he recommended was great.  The main dishes were right on point.  I will definitely be back.  Great place to have some food and conversation with friends.

    Soleil looks like an adorable French bistro that you want to be caught eating at. Then you go, and while it is a French bistro, it's not exactly adorable.

    Inside, the restaurant is sparsely decorated, save for the lavish glow-in-the dark paint on the night sky themed ceiling. The romantic atmosphere seems forced and badly created; the lights are much too dim even if you do like your date's face.

    However, the food doesn't need to try hard. It's good, wholesome, and interesting. The pumpkin ravioli was something that surprised and delighted; the light touch of sweetness of the pumpkin went really well with the overall creaminess and heaviness of ravioli.

    I'm glad I came. I'm glad I ate. But my love affair with Soleil ends here. and now.

    cool restaurant, came here for the good reviews.  The food is good, not the best I have had. I got the pumpkin ravioli that everyone raved about.  It made for a good meal, but did not do anything to impress me and want to come back.  I feel this place could use a face lift inside.  The cloudy star light sky painting looks quite tacky on the ceiling. :-/

    A belated thank you to our attractive and holiday-frazzled host/server Connor for accommodating a last minute dinner reservation for a party of 6 on New Year's Eve!  Hence the four stars - you really saved me some holiday stress.  Maybe I'll come back on a regular night and judge again.  We'll see how the star ratings go on for a normal dining experience, ha.

    As for NYE 2012, my friends and I had fun that evening.  It was a bit chilly sitting on the bar side since the entrance door kept opening.  We were kept comfortable and entertained though with some house wines, occasional drumming and singing, and general chit chat.  

    That night, the place was definitely busy for such an unassuming, though lovely, place in Westwood.  Thankfully, our dinner orders got pushed through to the kitchen before two larger parties' orders, so our entrees were delivered pretty quickly.  Connor mixed up two pasta dishes but remedied that right quick.  

    Pumpkin ravioli was pretty divine in taste, but the sylvie picasso dish that I ordered could have integrated the brie more impressively.  While the brie taste was rich, it didn't find its way into every bite, so I found myself picking at my meal rather than enjoying it whole.  My carnivore friends raved on the tenderness of the lamb shank as well as on the classic tastes of the beef bourguignon.  To quote one of them, "It's meat and potatoes - what else do I need to be happy?"  

    We ordered two chocolate bread puddings around the table, and oh my goodness... it took a ridiculous 25 minutes before we received the desserts.  It was yummy, not incredible but definitely tasty.  Just not worth the extra wait.  

    When we got the check (10 or 15 minutes after dessert was all done and gobbled up), it was the wrong one.  Took another 5 minutes to remedy that.  Definitely postponed and slightly threw off the rest of our NYE plans that evening.  Maybe this oughta be a 3 star rating, but oh well - we had a nice, though oddly syncopated timed, night.

    Came here with the girlfriend to grab some brunch. It was average overall. I got the French Onion Soup, which was alright. Nothing really stood out with reference to taste. My girlfriend got the Spinach Salad with salmon, which turned out good for her.

    The service was great and there is a pleasant vibe to the place in the late mornings. It's pretty nice.

    I came with friends for a New Years Brunch. I had wanted to try the poutine, but they had separated those items off the menu to a separate bar on the other side of the restaurant, how disappointing. I ended up getting the Pate Maison, which was nothing special, just your average pate. It came with some salad, and was supposed to come with bread as well, but I ended up having to ask for it. The bf got the croque madame, which just looked average as well. My overall impression of the place was just average. The food was standard, as was the service and prices. I didn't find anything really noteworthy. There was nothing wrong with the restaurant, they had good food, but I think I can find much better in WLA.

    Scene: recruiting dinner of 4 candidates and 4 professionals (weekday)

    The order:

    APPETIZERS: pate maison (closest thing you'll get to fois gras in LA now. A little too rich for my taste); crab cakes (very fresh and moist); plateau de fromage (so much variety of cheese!); shrimp soleil (very tasty, decent sized shrimp).

    ENTREE: Sam and Jen, a NY steak with shrimp. Shrimp was grilled to perfection, with just enough flavor. Larger than the shrimp appetizer. Steak cooked medium rare as requested and portion was enough for you to also enjoy the shrimp and dessert.

    DESSERT: creme brulee. yummy. great way to end a meal.

    Players: service was very attentive and prompt.

    Setting: great place for a date; very nice and cozy; however, enough room to seat a small group if you call in advance. The place has a lot of subtle and not so subtle references to the sun and moon. :)

    Etc: street parking or valet ($5).

    There's one reason why I come here, to a place that seems really good for brunch - then again, I don't do all that brunch stuff. And that reason is for the Poutine. Oh my goodness, it's really really good here.

    While I'm not one who orders fries when he gets a meal, I can say that if you offer me Poutine I will not turn it down. There's something about gravy and cheese curds that transform any plate of salty fries into something magical.

    They do class up this dish, as you would expect any place in West L.A. would try to in order to be able to up charge the hell out of it. I mean, does fries and gravy and cheese need filet mignon? Probably not. But that's certainly no reason why I would turn it down. The mushroom gravy on that sucker was amazing. They really gave this French-Canadian comfort food a real French technique in preparing.

    It really gave it a sort of steak and fries poutine au poivre feel to it. So great job on that.

    The atmosphere here is really French and welcoming. It's as if you just got your passport stamped and are jet setting away.

    Went here for Thanksgiving; I'm not a fan of traditional Thanksgiving fare, and loved the idea of having French food instead.  The food was delicious, the decor charming and the servers were friendly and energetic.  Did I mention the food? YUM.

    I love this place. The bottomless champagne brunch is the best! $10 for all you can drink champagne - and it's decent champagne too! I find it odd that bottomless mimosas are $15, but they do keep them coming, and they are more champagne than OJ.

    The savory crepes are made with corn flour - gluten free peeps rejoice! I find it a little odd that they aren't made with buckwheat flour, since that is what is traditionally French. Alas, they are pretty good.

    The little house salad that comes on the plate is really good when it has enough dressing. Sometimes they skimp.

    Outdoor seating is really nice in good weather, but it is noisy from the street. Ladies, be warned, your legs will sweat and stick to the seats if you wear shorts or a skirt! I personally hate that... Pinch a napkin from a different table to sit on.

    A bit pricey, but overall great!

    Came here for Christmas one year and had the absolute best steak I've ever tasted.  No, seriously.  Melt in your mouth.  I just wish I remember which one on the menu it is, because I haven't been able to replicate it yet.

    That said, I come here on occasion for lunch.  There's a reason they highlight the poutine: it's delicious.  Everything else on the menu is, too, but I can tell you I think it beats the sandwiches for sure.  Brunch here is also really good.

    Can't wait for Thanksgiving break when I'm at home, I want to come by again.

    Environment: Very continent location around westwood area. Modern and classic decor and interior, dark blue ceiling looked quite gorgeous with shining stars. Good for small groups (2~4 ppl), and they have a outdoor seating area as well. Also, they just got P'tit Soleil bar open next door to Soleil.

    Service: Very patient and helpful, two waiters checked with us quite frequently for water, bread, food or so.

    Food:
    Bread and butter - ** just okay
    Scalloped potatoes - *** quite great flavor
    French fries - ** so-so
    Lamb Shank - **** Slow braised and fork tender served in a white wine reduction. soft and tender lamb with its natural smell, very flavorful
    Canard à la Jeff - **** Roasted duck served in a Grand Marnier orange sauce. juicy flavored duck meat with their wonderful sauce, never thought it could be so tasty, a bit sweet yet more sour. The meat itself tasted kinda lean and plain, but with the sauce .... hmmm, it's so great! There must be some secret with the sauce.

    Price:
    Quite decent price on their lunch menu, only slightly pricey with dinner menu, but that's how it works. About $25 per person for food, and plus a few bucks more, if you order drinks.  

    Parking:
    It could be a hassle finding a street parking, so you'd better avoid those busy like Friday or Saturday nights.

    The first time I came here, it was for my birthday, just me and the boyfriend and got the ravioli.  Now, I still have dreams about that perfect plate of pumpkin ravioli.  It is likely the most delicious pumpkin dish I've ever had.  And I love pumpkin everything.

    Well curse me and my adventurousness.

    We came back for a round two with his parents, and instead of sticking with aforementioned holy grail of raviolis, I decided to try something new, picking the crab cakes with pasta and dijon sauce.  LARGELY DISAPPOINTING.  The cakes themselves where only slightly crispy, the pasta barely tossed in any kind of sauce.  I'm also not a huge fan of capers, as they kind of end up becoming a huge burst of salt in your mouth.  By the time I was halfway through the plate, I was so dissatisfied that I didn't feel like eating it anymore.  I ended up boxing it, then next day adding my own pesto cream sauce to make the rest of it more manageable.

    I also don't know what possessed me to get the tomato flambe soup over the french onion.  It wasn't terrible, but it wasn't spectacular either.

    My boyfriend's dad got the roasted duck, and though I didn't have any myself, he seemed quite dissatisfied with it as well.  His mom got the salmon, which was decent, but again, nothing special.  My bf got a steak, and it was the same story.

    On the up side, the environment is nice and cozy and the staff is great.  There's a huge selection of poutine (all of which we've tried have been amazing so far) and they have all-you-can-eat mussels on Wednesdays (still yet to try!).

    Verdict: Get some poutine.  Get some french onion soup.  Be afraid of change and stick to the pumpkin ravioli.

    I've been here a few times. So far, I've had the lunch dishes "La Crêpe au Poulet" and "Poulet Christine". If you don't know what that means, I suggest you invest in Rosetta Stone or check out their website. Anyhow, I will say  "La Crêpe au Poulet" was the better dish of the two.

    I also tried their "Poutine Sheridan" which is french fries, cheese curds with peas, and chicken and gravy. It may not sound like it goes together, but that shit is bomb (excuse my FRENCH...I'm aware this is a classy restaurant).

    Everyone is here to write about poutine, but I'm here to talk about the CHAMPAGNE BRUNCH!!

    Every yelper has their place where they're like "I don't want to tell anyone about this gem but I do" and for me it's Soleil. You can get a delicious breakfast, and with that bottomless mimosas are $10! And they serve those really skinny french fries with their omelets... Amazing.

    Basically, fine food, endless champagne, and consistently wonderful service which, as a package, I haven't found anywhere else in LA (especially with no wait!)

    Poutine!

    Bless me, you say?

    no no! poutine, as in fries, doused in gravy!

    Came here with some friends, determined to try the poutines named after them: Poutine Sheridan, and Poutine Simon Chen.

    Ordered the sample platter and chose from 3 - the Poutine whats-his-name. He's not my friend, so I didn't bother remembering.

    The Sheridan was my favorite. Very tasty, hearty, down-to-earth experience and definitely puts a smile on your face when combined with copious amounts of alcohol.

    The Simon Chen was little, funny, and looked delicate at first glance. Really seemed high-class, but really any person could appreciate the greasiness, and definitely has expensive tastes.

    Oh yeah, and the poutines were delicious, too.

    The first time I've ever heard about Poutine was in GQ magazine last year, and ever since then, I've been looking around to find a place that would have this amazing creation. To my surprise, instead of getting 1 type of poutine, Soleil had a specialized menu dedicated to them.
    over 8 to choose from, plus an option to get a sample plate where you can choose 3 different types.
    According to the owner, Christine was the most popular item on the menu, but after trying a several of them, I personally fell in love with poutine with Fillet Mignon.
    I couldn't believe how amazing it tasted and I can't wait to go back there again!!!

    Oh and on top of all that, the service was phenomenal! The staff was extremely attentive and helpful, and the owner ensured that we have the best experience there.

    Poutine may sound fancy but don't be fooled. It's just Canada's version of cheese fries and they be tasty!

    Poutine was "invented" in the 1950's in Quebec and the word used to be slang for "a mess".

    A beautiful mess, at that.

    While your basic Poutine is just gravy and cheese curds, you can use your imagination for inventive toppings.

    Soleil Westwood, a French Canadian Bistro, has sat on Westwood Blvd for 10 years and I've never really noticed it before. Regardless of its bright orange exterior.

    While they have an ample menu, what sets them apart is their selection of 10 mouthwatering Poutines.

    (Homework: Try using "Poutine" in a sentence today. Impress your friends).

    What I enjoyed the most is how the fries maintained their crispiness throughout the entire meal, even the last decadent bite wasn't soggy like it should have been.

    After reading about the poutine menu, I had to come check it out!

    But I have to say, the poutine was disappointing. We got the poutine sampler - Christine (peppercorn sauce and cheese curds), Marat (filet mignon, mushroom, cognac sauce) and mussles. They were all good but not real poutine like you get in Montreal! The fries were too cripsy and hard to eat. The cheese curds too big so you either get a big wad of it in 1 bite or none in the next. The mussels version is just like moule frites without the broth which is the best part... The best poutine I've had in LA is still the food truck...

    The BF really enjoyed his beef stroganoff. I got the salmon which the waitress recommended. The fish was too overcooked...

    Based on the food alone, I could have gone lower, but the atmosphere is really cute with music playing in the background. Makes you feel like you're actually in Europe. The service was really great and the manager/owner? came by a couple of times of check on thing. So I think 3 stars is a good rating.

    Being so close to where we live, I'm sure we will make our way back another time when we're feeling a french bistro but not in any hurry.

    I found Soleil because I was looking for poutine to be served in So. Cal.  I was looking forward to trying their poutine and some french food.  When I visited Soleil, they were remodeling the place so everything looked out of place, with plastic chairs and confined spaces.  The restrooms were not available either, the waiter had to take customers to the next door restaurants facilities.  It made the dining experience feel a bit cheap and hole in the wall place.  

    The dining tables for two were fairly small also, there's barely any room for an entree plate, two small plates, and a basket of bread.

    Parking for this place is a bit of a pain; there wasn't any street parking so I ended up parking at the Ross parking structure next door.  I did stop and purchase some sunglasses so for me it wasn't a problem, but if you don't purchase anything at Ross the first hour is free w/o purchases and $2.50 for the second hour.

    I took my boyfriend to try the poutine at this place; so we ordered the Glee Poutine where we were able to get 3 different types of poutine.  We tried Poutine Marat, Poutine Sheridan, and Poutine Mario (Traditional).  They were all very good and tasty, it's hard to go wrong with french fries, cheese and gravy.   We also ordered the Ratatouille Omelette, which my boyfriend and I weren't too fond off, the vegetables were overcooked and had a weird taste to it that started to taste a bit dirty.  We think that since the omelette came of the brunch menu, they may have held over the ingredients for the omelette for the remainder of the day.  Since we visited Soleil at 2 in the afternoon it probably wasn't smart to order brunch.  Although, when we stopped by the place was very crowded and filled with many patrons.

    I would hope that once they're done remodeling it would look a little more classy and sophisticated for a good dining atmosphere.  The feeling I get from others reviews and just trying the dishes we had, Soleil food is a hit and miss; but the poutine is one of the best things try have here.  So we'll definitely stop to try the poutine again.

    I can't believe that I have not already reviewed Soleil, as it is one of my go-to restaurants in Westwood. Recent reviews tend to focus on their poutine, which is justly famed, or their brunches, which are quite nice, but nearly everything on the menu is consistently well executed.

    Soleil is a lovely French-Quebecois restaurant with a small outside seating area. They have recently acquired both a full liquor license and a space next door to the original restaurant, and they are planning a significant expansion in the near future. The menu is a number of French and French-American bistro standards: bœuf bourguignon, escargots à la bourguignonne (in garlic & parsley butter), steak frites, etc., as well as some basic pastas, salads, and crepes.

    Around a year and a half ago they added a whole poutine menu, which has attracted a lot of attention. For those who haven't had it, poutine (French slang for "mess"), is French-Canadian comfort food of fresh cheese curds, fries, and gravy. There are a number of traditional ways to spice this up, all of which are on the poutine menu at Soleil. I have to say that after a long weekend in Montreal for a conference, during which I had poutine daily, I feel that Soleil's is better than most of what I had in Montreal. One twist is their use of crisp shoestring fries rather than the more traditional thick-cut fries, leading to a crunchier mouthfeel. The steak and peppercorn sauce variation is probably my favorite, though all are good.

    On Wednesdays they have an all-you-can-eat moules et frites deal, for which you must make a reservation by the day before. The upside is that they tend to have mussels the following two nights as well, which are not listed on the menu but are usually available if you inquire. The cook the mussels in a very simple broth with white wine, shallots, and parsley, served with a cornet of the shoestring fries.

    One of the best pieces of steak I have ever had was a special filet mignon at Soleil (two of the others were at the Canteen in North Platte, NE). Their steak Christine in general is quite tasty. Their scalloped potatoes are as good as the fries, and it's a dilemma as to which I'll choose.

    Soleil has a OK wine list, but an impressive list of beers & ciders, many Canadian, French, and Belgian brands not usually seen in the US. Ephemere is particularly nice, a tangy blend of ale with cider.

    The rose salad is a particular favorite, a head of butter lettuce dressed with a classic French vinaigrette. The salade du Quebec is a flavorful blend of greens, nuts, and cheese.

    Luc, the owner, oversees everything. He makes a point of remembering regular customers, and making everyone feel welcome.

    UPDATE 10/2012: Need to mention the opening of the small plates bar next door to the main restaurant. In addition to a great selection of beers and ciders, including many Canadian brands, the bar menu includes small versions of their excellent poutines and a number of French and French-Canadian small plates. The duck cakes are not to be missed.

    This restaurant serves not only the best poutine I've ever had, but 10 different kinds of poutine.

    I had the Poutine Christine, which was very thinly cut fries with warm cheese curds, covered in a cognac peppercorn sauce.  It was one of the best things I've ever eaten.  

    Years ago, I went poutine-hunting in Montreal but don't think anything I had there compared with what I had today.

    Also, the service is excellent.  The waiters were very attentive.

    And it's a very cute place.  It would definitely be a good place to take a date.  It would also be a nice spot to take a friend for an afternoon snack.
