Nice menu.  The corned beef with sweet potato fries is great.  Plenty of TVs for the games and live music/trivia options a couple nites a week.

Neighborhood bar that isn't usually too crowded which makes for a great place to stop in and catch up with friends. The music is a little on the loud side which is good to keep your conversations somewhat private but when there's a change in songs and you're basically yelling it gets a little weird. Music is good though so I can't really complain. Wide selection of beers, including Magner's Cider which is always a plus. The beef sliders with fries were also very tasty little things! Super sweet server kept our glasses full all night. I visited on a Saturday night and found it to be a great little watering hole in my 'hood.

Nice small bar on Ashland. Not much parking available and this place is good for the people who live in the nearby area. Prety much a shot place.

Used to really enjoy going here with friends but super disappointed since taken over by new management. And worse, I feel like many reviews about new management are misleading (inclined to believe they are just posting reviews themselves). There are too many places in the city with better food/prices/location to waste your time at temple :(

This place has changed ownership recently, but if anything, they are knocking it out of the park as far as I can tell.  Typically when a place changes hands they either close down to re-concept or they keep everything just the same and absolutely nothing changes.  From what I can tell, these people must know what they're doing because they are keeping the doors open, increasing their clientele and making all the right moves to keep the old and bring in the new.  The food here was okay before, but now, it's a whole new level of awesome.  It seems like it would be hard to mess up a chicken sandwich, but what's really hard is to make one that's memorable and this place does it right...along with some other new additions to the menu that I'm loving these days.  It's cleaner than it's ever been, the staff is far more attentive, personable and professional than they ever were before (maybe because they're making money now???), there are more tv's with better quality picture, more specials and promotions, more people to make things more interesting.  I was a "it's close enough that it's fine" kind of patron before, but now, I'm a real-deal fan.  The owner/manager could walk around chewing on a tire iron for all I care, but an owner who is present and making sure all his ducks are in a row is aces in my book compared to what you usually find at the corner bar/local option.  You'd be hard pressed to find anyone close to that and these guys are here all day, every day.  If that isn't caring about the customer, I don't know what is.  I love this place.  I'll be back.  Probably later today!

Been in a couple times since the place changed ownership. I think they are doing a great job. They made a few changes to the menu that look good. My husband and I have tried several things and liked them all. Lots of TVs for sports, good specials, comfortable, and not pretentious. We will be back for sure.

Used to really enjoy coming here but now the place is awful. It's under new ownership and they are getting rid of everything that was good about this place. One red bull vodka is now ten dollars, not to mention the owner walks around chewing on a toothpick instead of checking on customers. Safe to say I won't be back.

Since this is neighborhood place, we've started stopping here for lunch. I've had the Turkey club and the Turkey burger. Both dishes were really delicious. Especially when you consider bar food! Even better the Turkey burger was on special on mondays...$5 for create your own burger. The best part to top off your meal is they have the option of tator tots. Delicious!

(We also received a free plate of nachos for checking in on facebook. I was expecting just a small sampler, but it was a huge plate! With real nacho cheese and chicken. Again nothing to complain about there! It was yummy!)

Ugh. I really loved this place the first two times I was here for British soccer games. The food, especially, was great - they offered both full British breakfast, perfect for the game, and also had a great mushroom sandwich that was perfect for the people with us who had dietary restrictions. Seemed like the ideal place to watch soccer - cozy and delicious.

Then, they came under new ownership, and the new owners changed everything. They raised prices on the menu, cut the mushroom sandwich, cut the British breakfast in that particular form (so no more puddings!), and even replaced the type of jam they used. All bad for us. The new jam was even terrible, dried up and unusable in the little plastic cups.

Worse still, this past week they didn't let soccer viewers in they typical 30 minutes early that everyone was - and it was freezing out!

Then, about half an hour into a BRITISH soccer game, they said that they were done serving breakfast tea!

And, when the person at our table who has a number of allergies and dietary restrictions asked if, since there was no mushroom sandwich, it was possible to just get a build-your-own-burger with all veggies and no burger (since the veggie burger was soy-based and there was a soy allergy to consider) the waitress said sure but no chopped mushrooms could be placed on it because they would have to be cooked with oil, and she said that she knew vegan didn't eat oil. There was no dissuading her from that, either - vegans certainly can have oil!

Finally, a grilled cheese we ordered came out ungrilled, and they've started serving pop in small plastic cups rather than pint glasses.

Higher prices, lower quality, worse service. :( If you've been used to decent food at decent prices, and lovely service, adjust your expectations. The new management is not on the ball.

Love the sidewalk beer garden in the summer.  However, I've given the food several tries and its never been good, just fair.  It also seems like a crap shoot, sometimes the bar is packed and other times it's empty.

This is our favorite place to go to watch The Bears, and it's also a nice place to go just any day of the week for a quick beer or a bite to eat.

We live right down the block from this place, and have been going here pretty regularly since we moved to the neighborhood.

They have consistently good food and the service is always friendly.

On Bears game days they raffle off a Bears jersey and give out shots for every touchdown. They also started doing a buffet this year for $5 all you can eat. It's pretty awesome. We did it for the first time yesterday, and it was delicious. How can you go wrong with good quality, all you can eat food for only $5. I see us making the buffet a weekly thing for us.

Place was great! Friendly, welcoming staff. Great beer selection, outdoor TV's, dog friendly, and amazing daily food/drink specials. Awesome neighborhood family-owned bar. Made us feel like we were part of the family! We'll certainly be back again!

The world needs ditch diggers. And this is where they go. Honestly the crowd was gross. You had all the makings of a bar full of dirtballs - fake boobs, sequin Bears jerseys, tapout shirts, patrons doing extensive burnouts in Camaros (no joke, probably 5 or 6). And the service was borderline awful.

This place is gross and so are the people and help.

On a hot summer day, my Ted and I stopped in at Temple Bar to give it a whirl. The specials here are pretty much never ending. From the food special to the drink special, every day has it's feature. A cute Irish bar with outdoor seating, even for my Gizmo ( my chihuahua, for those of you who have not kept up with my previous yelps that include Gizzy).

I had the fish and chips one day, the wings a different day and the cobb salad on another -hot, Chicago night. I was pleased with all my dishes and have decided to return to Temple Bar because of it's pubby-wise selection on bar food.

I really wanted to love this place, it's so close to my house and looks so charming from the outside.  Sadly that's where the good things stop.  I ordered the fish tacos and they were probably some of the worst fish tacos I have ever had.

Menu Description:  "Choice of crispy cod, chicken or steak wrapped in a warm corn tortilla,  shredded lettuce, Mexican blend of cheeses and chipotle mayo with
sour cream and pico de gallo"

Reality: "Tasteless, greasy mashed cod, wrapped in one corn tortilla, big pieces of lettuce, Mexican blend of cheeses   (I swear it's Kraft Mexican blend from Jewel) and runny chipotle mayo, sour cream and pico de gallo (in other words salsa)"

After the disappointment with the food, the waitress was terrible and forgot about us for about 15 minutes.  Then gave us the bill charging us for our free nachos, UGH!

Everything about this bar is meh. The food is average. The price are middle of the road, the draft list is so so and the trivia is basically meh all around. I did take advantage of the great checking offer for the nachos. I love free things in so many forms, but these nachos were rough. I like canned cheese as much as the next sluggish, out of shape person but this cheese tasted rancid. We waited around for trivia.

The trivia is free and started around 8:30. It is general and a little long for my taste, but if you want to hang out with a bunch of folks that have been going to the same bar and doing the same things with theory lives for years than check it out. But unlike most of the people in that bar you can do better.

Overall go if you don't feel like going to the jewel/foremost across the street to prepare your own dinner

Came on a Friday at noon for lunch and waited 2 hours for a mediocre buffalo chicken sandwich.  Won't be back.

(A halfhearted thumbs up to the manager who discounted the bill 50% for the trouble -- only after a fellow customer asked what they'd be doing about the terrible service.  Waitress seemed nervous, it definitely seemed like an issue with the kitchen... but if you're going to be a decent waitress, you need to be able to stand up to the cooks.  And you need to know when to offer a group of 15 ravenous people a basket of chips and salsa if they've been waiting 2 hours for salads and sandwiches.)

    PS: I'm still hungry.

It's not often I procrastinate, but sometimes life throws curve balls, and we swing and miss. I have being meaning to write a review for this place for some time now but well now you know. This place is AWESOME. Perfect place to sit back with a couple girlfriends and enjoy a glass of wine on the patio, or sit at the bar and watch the Cubs on one of the big screens. Fish tacos are killer and the Big Cheese is one of the best burgers this city has to offer (pretzel bun, onion straws, yummy tater tots....you can't go wrong). I wish I had discovered this place sooner!

I have only been going there for a couple of weeks now but i love it.  The drink specials are great and have something for everyone there.  I really enjoy their Belgian beers.

I really like the bartenders, they are personal and cute.

Could really use more people drinking in there though.  I was there on a Thursday and it was a little dead, which was weird to me cause there are way to many crappy places in the city, and i could understand why it wasn't packed.

oh well... love it and i will be back.

Frequent this place every now and then with friends when looking for a casual pub. Food here is fine (nothing to write home about). Their cobb salad is a decent size and the fish and chips is definitely above average. We were there the Friday of March madness from 5:30 on, with a group of 8 people we could not get consistent drink service to save our lives! Multiple times we had people waiting a LONG time to even get a drink order in. I know it's a busy day but ti wasn't like it was standing room only.

Plus they forgot to enter one of our food dishes.

I'll definitely be back here, but wish the service was better.

Ever have one of those Friday nights where you basically can't recall anything that happened? Ya know, like you need to piece together the night via butchered memories of everyone who went out?

Sadly, this recently happened to a couple of us and we desperately needed to recap the night.  I've always been a fan of Temple bar (centrally located, plenty of parking, laid-back atmosphere), so I suggested we all meet there.  It was pretty empty on a Sunday night (thankfully!) and I planted myself at the bar, in front of one of the huge tv's playing the Bulls game while I waited for my friends.

The bartender was so adorbs and hilarious.  Great service!  Not only did she rave about the ribs, wings, practically all the food, but she was fast refilling the drinks ($3 stadium cups!).  The corned beef sliders and the potato skins were really good...and my friend really enjoyed the ribs!  All great comfort-ish food to indulge in when re-living our night of fails.

Even though there were still some missing pieces to our Friday night, I think we know what happened.  For the most part.  Kinda.  Moral of the story?  Say no to $5 Patron shots.

Tip: Yelp check-in special = Free nachos! Yum!

if you're looking for a review about being irish or watching soccer, move on to the next review bc i dont have any input on that...

i checked in on Yelp! and got free nachos with purchase of entree.  sounds pretty awesome, eh?  i wasn't a huge fan of the nachos.  i dont know, the cheese tasted funny.  i noshed on them a little and moved to the order of sliders and fries.  on sundays they have $5 sliders.  again, not TOO shabby - but the sliders were TINY!!!!!!!!  i mean, tiny.  wee.  minute.  and the burger meat was overcooked.  wwwaaaahhh.  the tots were great, though.  crispy and delish.

i've been there for their rib special, and it wasn't so bad.  i'm sure if you love soccer, this is the pub for you.  just dont expect too much on the food frontier.

I could take it or leave it.

The last time we were there, their credit card processor was down.  The server came up to us at the end of the meal to tell us this, when it was pretty obvious this had been an issue for a while.  We hadn't brought any cash.  Her suggestion was to either go to Dunkin Donuts across the street and use their ATM or to go to Jewel and buy a pack of gum and get cash back.  Ummm...yeah...not so much.

As a business that accepts credit cards, they should have a backup system where they can take an imprint of cards and then process later.  Or, the manager should have come over and spoken to us.  Instead, they send the poor server over to handle it.  God bless her, it wasn't her fault and she was nice about it.

Now to the food.  I got the nachos and Italian Beef.  The nachos really were nothing more than some tortillas with liquid cheese.  They are more ball-park nachos and less real nachos with beef, real cheese, etc.  The Italian Beef isn't anything to write home about.

Do yourself a favor and go to Four Shadows if you want good pub food.

Respectable draft beers, solid pub grub, and a good traditional public house look.  All the ingredients are there, so why isn't Temple Bar more popular?

Location.  It's decidedly awful.  Its predecessor, Fearon's, faced the same conundrum.  Right at the corner of a miniature highway (Ashland) and a busy sidestreet (Wellington), I think Fearon's is a little too public for some folks.  It's actually too easy to get here.  Does that sound absurd?  It probably is.

I wish them the best, but it's going to be tough at this spot.

Temple Bar.  It's an neighborhood Irish pub, with plenty of beer on tap and plenty of televisions for you to watch the Man United game on a weekend morning.  I certainly wouldn't mind having a local like Temple Bar in my non-neighborhood.  Sigh.

We stumbled into Temple Bar for some post-game following the Mayfest down the street (you know, the one held in May - not the dubious one held in June further to the north).  It's a pub.  They have beer.  It's cozy.  Sports are on the ubiquitous televisions.  Is it the best Irish pub in this city?  No, sir.  But it gets the job done.

    Four stars.

Welcome all to the first edition of "Johnny Asks..."

So Johnny asked "Weren't you in Ireland around this time last year!?"

Why yes, yes I was Johnny and I miss it terribly so. Because of this and a "Living Social" deal I was surprised with dinner at The Temple Bar. Not because it was my favorite place in Dublin (that's for sure) or that it was the best place to go in Chicago for a good ol' Irish meal but just because it was down the street and we had a coupon.

So the small similarities between Temple Bar and the real Temple bar in Dublin include, dark brown wood, chair and tables, live music, serves Guinness and cider (though better in Dublin), serves food, and um... yeah, that's about it. I will give the Chicago bar a few props, the service was excellent, the food (though it took awhile) was actually good, and the jukebox was awesome.

Although they could have more traditional Irish cuisine on the menu, I wasn't looking to eat it. Don't get me wrong a lot of Irish food is great but a lot of it is greasy, bland, or both. The biggest thing for me was that their curry chips were good and I can say that they were excellent!! I ordered the chicken curry with 1/2 rice and 1/2 chips (a lovely option to just all rice). It was really really good and I would come back just for that dish alone. Hell, I might even do a pick up from time to time. I also got to try their Portabella sandwich, which other then too much onion wasn't bad at all, add a little tater tots and that was a hell of a meal.

I always get taken-aback when service in bars is actually good.  Something about having a server refill a drink or ask if you are ready for another round still surprises me.....

Temple Bar not only has great service, but has TV's outside!  You know those 5 days per year in Chicago that the weather is actually nice enough that you are able to dine alfresco?  Well now add watching TV alfresco.  Temple bar hangs their flat screens up to the trees (seriously, I didn't not know tree bark could be wired) and chazzzzam, you are able to watch the Cubs game outside.  Yay!

For a bar that gets its inspiration from Dublin, Ireland... there is a lack of Irish-influence in its food or beer servings.

Although Temple Bar has a HUGE food menu, they serve mostly American grub like burgers, appetizers, salads... pretty expensive, but hey, its food.  Though I would have liked to see more emphasis on Irish-faire, but I just saw some shepard's pie that was really pricey (this is the thing that is notably CHEAP in ireland).

Further, the beer selection is mainly the American macrobrews like Miller and Budweisser.  We came on a weeknight and they were having specials on buckets-o-beer (Miller I believe). I was really craving a nice pint of Guinness, so I inquired about how much it costs and how often they serve Guinness here.  $8 a pint!!!!  WHAT?!?! That is just ludicrous for a pint of Guinness from an Irish-bar.  And I looked around the bar, and no one had a pint of the black-stuff (Guinness) - this is a BIG factor in whether to order Guinness from the tap or not. A good pint needs to be from a constantly used tap - the reason is that the Guinness gets bitter and oxidizes WITHIN the tap and thus needs to be constantly served to taste fresh.   At $8 a pint, I'm sure no one was gonna be pounding the black stuff....

Luck be the Irish to get this place back to its roots...

We walked in here at 2:30pm on a Friday...there was one of those non- American football games playing over the bar...and the other guys at the bar had some nice accents going on. I love it...I feel like I just ended up in a pub in Europe...except for the crappy American Beer I was drinking...my wife tried to talk me out of it but how can you resist $2 PBR's available all day every day!!! I love me a beer special.

We then asked the bartender how long it would take for an order of Fish and Chips (Friday special for $7.95) and she checked with the chef who told her 10 minutes. Guess what we got our food in 9 minutes...now that is service...it was also incredibly hot too...we had to wait 5 mintues before we could even touch it. The Fish and Chip also came with a nice helping of green peas...why? I do not know...is it traditional to have peas with your Fish and Chips? They were good...plus it was the only healthy thing on the plate. The fish was huge and really good...they batter it in a beer batter...yes it feels like free beer! There were also some other great food specials during the week...Monday was 35 cent wings and Tuesday has a burger and fry for $3.95...so I think we are going to go back.

The bartender was very nice and friendly too...and she is really committed to her job...she even lives above the bar...that is some dedication.

We walked in not expecting anything and were pleasantly surprised with the atmosphere and the food...we will be back!!!

Having a bit of time to kill before my dart match at Cody's I stopped by Temple Bar to grab a drink and a bite to eat. I had been to Fearon's which was the previous incarnation of the bar and found a similar interior except everything seemed a bit darker. Maybe they repainted the walls, I couldn't tell but it was a change of pace.

There were big TVs and some people were watching the Celtics Heat game while another guy was watching the Sabres game and let them know that they accidentally changed the channel on his Sabres game! I looked over the menu and found traditional fare as well as Irish foods such as bangers and mash and fish and chips. I saw some Irish curry and thought that interesting but went for safety in a chicken sandwich.

The Guinness did the trick but I looked around and found no dartboards, and waited for my sandwich. I took my food out and ate it and the chicken sandwich was great with its marinade and also caramelized onions. The price was standard bar prices - neither cheap nor expensive.

Now looking at their web site I found that the day I went there was a $3.95 bar special for a burger and fries and the waitress didn't tell me. That's $5  I no longer have due to the server not bothering to tell me.

Summary: The TVs are decent, the food good, but don't count on the server letting you know what the special is or paying much attention at all.

The Temple Bar and its previous existance as another Irish bar wasn't something I was dying to try out.  But, imagine my suprise when I was told that it was a place I should add on my list because, get this, they have a amazing whiskey flights.

Oh sigh, I finally check it out.  Before getting there, I commented that you know, its been ages since I had been to a Irish Pub.  The last one was in San Francisco that couldn't make a right Hot Toddy.  Before that, its been years (in my early 20s, when I didn't know hot to reconcile good taste with places offered to me).

Well, I shouldn't judge.  So I walked in.  Yuk.  Everything I remember about my 20s spent in Irish Pubs hits me.  We go to the back, look at the scattered menu.  Nothing is jumping out.  Look at the flights.  Sort of excited, but not there yet.  There were some whiskey I didn't know, but most were ones you can find in almost any bar.

I'm actually surprised that more bars catering to the whiskey treads don't have flights (i.e. Fountainhead, but then again, they still are stuck on v1 of their menu).

When we got our flights (mine had the J Walker green label one), immediately noticed how each glass had different amounts of whiskey corresponding to the price of it.  Obviously, we got a lot for the cheaper whiskey and very little of the good stuff.

For me, I'll never return.  This isn't my style of bars.  If you're into Irish Pubs, don't read my review.  If you're into fine experiences/drinks/cocktails, don't bother coming here.  Or give it a chance if its reincarnated to a Irish Pub 3.0, made for the Teen era.

I loved my trip to the Temple, and boy, those that know me know that this is a statement I would almost never say, lol.

We sat outside, and maybe this is the secret to a great experience here.  I was only inside for a second to use the washroom, so I cant say anything about the interior.

The exterior, however, is done in a very cool way. The building is red, with old-looking signage, mostly done in black and gold.  There are pots of plants spilling out across the entire facade, and the seating area is along the side street, under tall trees.

They had Magners on draft which was a fabulous find, and I ordered a pint immediately.  We also shared an appetizer of the curry chips, which were served in an unusual way, with the curry on the side as a dipping sauce rather than smothering the chips like is normally seen.  The curry was quite good, I could have seen it a tad thicker in consistency considering the serving style.

I then had the Shepard's Pie, which was a huge and lovely concoction of meat, veggies, mashed potatoes and cheese.  I can totally see myself craving this on a cold, raw, January night. Andy's Irish Breakfast was a huge helping of sausages, eggs, black & white pudding, and toast.  You definitely do not leave here hungry.

We had very attentive and excellent service from our waiter, as well as the busboy who was super quick in retrieving dirty plates and refilling water.  I guess my only issue was the family at the other end of the patio with the screaming brat things I am sure they called children (and I am sure these parents felt the behaviour was "perfectly OK" since they were sitting outside rather than in).  Although unless Temple Bar wants to establish a rule like that place in South Carolina, there isnt much anyone can do about that.

I went there on a Thursday night with one of my roommates because it's literally right around the corner from my house. It was decent, got a pitcher of Sangria for $12 and they had karaoke, perhaps if the drinks were a tiny but cheaper I would have sang but I guess that's my fault.

Some drunk Irish men were there which were funny at first but then it got old. Has a pretty nice little patio so it might be a better outdoor drinking type of place.

Oh, and their tator tots sucked. But everything else was dece.

Stopped in the other night and it turns out there was a "corn hole" tournament going on. Oh the excitement!!! Actually it was quite fun to watch the competition while we drank our beers. I almost felt like we were "tailgating" at that southside ball park that will go unmentioned here given this place is practically in the shadow of Wrigley!

We sat outside and were immediately greeted by the manager (owner?) not sure which, but he was friendly and welcoming and I was sure my rating would move up to the 4 star level on this visit.

Of course that was before we ordered and it took 45 minutes to bring out our appetizer of curry fries. Yikes! Could the kitchen have been that backed up? Fries are about the easiest thing a kitchen can make.

The rest of the food came out pretty quickly after wards (we had just a couple of more appetizers with the quesadilla and the fish tacos) but we just never got the night back on track.

Love the large outdoor patio and the fact that they have somehow "rigged" TV's to be outside attached to the tree so that you can watch your favorite games while enjoying the Chicago Summer.

And on this visit- the beers that we wanted to drink were in stock so they must have worked out their issue with the distributor which was present on other visits.

I'm not giving up yet. This place has the structure and the history to make me a fan. I'm just having a hard time getting it to fire on all cylinders consistently at this point.

Most days this wouldn't be anything other than a run-of-the-mill neighborhood pub, and definitely not a destination.  But I want to give them some major kudos for their July 4th event--free grill fare from 1-5pm (and $2.50 Bud and Bud Light if you're into that sort of thing).  They were serving up hamburgers, brats, chicken, corn on the cob, cole slaw, and salad--all gratis!

We got lovely service from the blonde, semi-pregnant bartender, but I want to give special recognition to the bearded English bloke manning the grill.  It was hot outside to begin with, but within a five-foot radius of that grill, it was almost hellish, just for the short minutes while getting my food.  I can only imagine how miserably sweltering that must have been for him, but he maintained a cheery good humor the entire time.  Plus he knows his craft, because everything that we ate was cooked perfectly.

Anheuser-Busch is not my brewery of choice, but Temple Bar has enough of the usual domestic and imported suspects to satisfy just about everybody.  We got drafts of Stella Artois, Great Lakes Dortmunder Lager, and Blue Moon, and a Heineken Light bottle, all for $20.  I meant to have a Magner's before we left, but I forgot.  They also have some intriguing whisk(e)y flights, which might be the one thing that entices me back.

Plenty of TVs, even among the outdoor seating area, and apparently loads of soccer and rubgy showings, plus a trivia night and karaoke...again, pretty standard fare, but what I've seen so far they are executing well.

Fearon's Public House is no more. Out of their ashes has risen, The Temple Bar. Anyone who's been to the one in Dublin, well, won't see a connection, but who cares. The interior has been redone and is now full of dark wood paneling.

In all reality, not much has changed. They changed their tables, they are all long tables for 6 people, and they add some 2 person booths in the back.

At least in regards to the brunch menu, everything is still the same.
