Thank God, I never have to hear "YOU'VE NEVER BEEN TO TERRY'S TURF CLUB?!" again!
Terry's certainly lived up to it's legend in my book. Â Luckily, I didn't have to wait 2 hours for a table like I have so often heard! We came in around 2pm on a Friday and the place was empty save for maybe 2 tables. Â No wonder there is a long wait on the weekends- the place seats maybe 50 people (including the bar). Â We sat at the bar area and Tom was our server. Â He was so friendly and helpful and we loved chatting with him while we waited. Â
We split a regular cheeseburger- no fancy toppings just wanted to get the real deal and we were not disappointed. Â The burger was fantastic and the fries were also outta this world. Â
Terry's also gets extra points for having Hop-Slam, which nobody can seem to keep in stock at most of the bars we go to lately! Â Triple points for letting us try a few beer samples that the staff were trying after their distributor dropped off a few bottles. :)
Will definitely be back!

Burger Qwest just added another notch on the belt thanks to Terry's!
I didn't expect to get into this place when while visiting Cincinnati late on a Friday afternoon. Â A group of 10 of us headed over and we were greeted from the street by a line going out the door. Â I ran quickly to ask about wait time. Â The hostess inquired if all 10 of were ready....Sure, we're all here and she said "let's go!" Â What I found out that they have over-sized booths that hold 6-8 which are held for larger groups. I guess everyone else in line was a 2 banger. Â Right off the bat the experience was good for us.
Quickie Tippy: The turf here is made of righteous hamburger! The 5 stars is for the hamburger and that's why Terry is in business.
The burgers (see pics) are part of a gringo greatness real; THICK, JUICY, SWEATY and SEASONED. Seared on top and bottom for added flavor and then surrounded by a classic large egg bun, deep red tomato, crunchy lettuce, clean white onions, and loaded with cheeses of choice! If you can get your mouth around this baby you need to apply to Guinness for a new record! Â FYI, they put 10" wooden skewer through the middle to keep their burgers straight.
Fries are also fresh, hand cut, bigger than normal smaller than steak and they leave the potato skin on them!
So any downside??? Â I was okay with everything but I can see how some would cringe at the divey atmosphere and possibly would close their eyes while driving through the local area to get to Terry's burger haven.
I WILL visit each time I am in Cincinnati for more than an hour.
My husband and I tried Terry's for the first time last night. The burgers were very large and tasty. If you're somewhat conservative with your add-ons, it won't get too expensive. We sat at the bar and chatted with the staff off and on - very friendly and entertaining. We will definitely go back.
Review Source:Ahhh, I finally made it to Terry's Turf Club and it was everything I had hoped for and more, based on all the great Yelp reviews I've seen. Â I had no idea what to expect except (hopefully) a very nice burger and neon signs. Â What we got was a GREAT burger and LOTS of neon signs, many of which herald old Cincinnati beers, but many others from all over the place. Â The 3 Bevadors from the 50's (circular fridges that look like an early prototype of time travel machine) are so incredibly cool that it just makes you want to stay longer and take in the physical scenery.
The food was fantastic: our burger arrived literally so symmetrical and perfectly balanced with ingredients, that I regret not taking a photo; the beer was ice cold, and our hand-cut fries were on-the-money perfect. Â Â
We arrived at 3PM on a Friday, tactically preplanned so that we wouldn't have a wait, and we hit the jackpot! Â No wait, just a couple patrons, and we had the place to ourselves. Â Terry was present and we chatted briefly; our bartender Tom (we sat at the bar to watch everything get cooked up) could not have been nicer to us.
Looking forward to the next visit, will try the crazy deviled eggs as a starter dish next time (Shrimp, pickles and other delicious items piled onto lovely deviled eggs). Â The food is really, really good, albeit a limited menu. Â Go for burgers! Â I can't wait to go back.
PS The interior is literally a visual feast of color on every square foot of wall --and-- large, odd kitschy murals, etc. attached to the ceiling. Â Amazing interior adornments, super-eclectic, and adds to the fun factor.
A delicious, large burger which will definitely satisfy your hunger. Â Really, the burger was so big, I could barely fit it in my mouth. Â The server described it as a "nine napkin burger"-- probably not the cleanest or neatest meal you will have. Â There are many different cheeses and toppings you can order, but a basic burger is one of the best burgers I've ever had. Â The fries were a little soggy, and unnecessary, in my opinion-- after all, there are so many peanuts to snack on. Â The service is fantastic, and there is a great beer selection. The customers next to me ordered grilled cheese (literal grilled cheese, not a sandwich), and it looked delicious, so I will be ordering that next time I go!
Review Source:This is a rock solid place, great burgers and beer list! Â
Is the burger the best ever? Â probably not, but it is damn good. Â the toppings are the star, they are really, really good. Â the burger itself is a pretty straightforward patty, super thick with a nice crust, expertly cooked. Â I got mine Medium, which still had a nice pink center. Â I think the burgers might be just a bit too large, I came close to eating the entire thing and i started to sweat! Â the buns are good, and placed on the flaptop to give them a nice toasting.
If you like high quality food, give it a go!
This past Sunday afternoon, after working up a sweat on the trails around Lunken Airport and Armleder Park, I finally made it to Terry's Turf Club for a very late lunch. This restaurant on Eastern Avenue has been very popular since it's opening over five years ago and many view it as the best hamburger in Cincinnati. Since I don't eat hamburgers Terry's was never on the top of my list of places to visit, but I was convinced when my brother-in-laws wanted to check it out.
Since our party was nearly bigger than all the seats put together in this tiny restaurant, we split into two groups. My group arrived first around 3:15 PM. I was joined by my wife, my two-year-old son, and one of my brother-in-laws. The majority of the tables in Terry's are high top, so we decided to wait a few minutes for a booth to open. There are less than a handful of booths available, but our wait was only five or ten minutes. Fortunately there is an outdoor waiting area with newly installed heaters and plastic sheets to block out the cold.
A few other smaller groups arrived while we were waiting and were seated immediately. Terry's utilizes a community table seating method, so you may be sat at the same table as another small group. The inside of the small dining room and bar is completely covered with neon signs. There is definitely plenty to look at while waiting for your food to arrive. Plus a complimentary basket of peanuts is provided to each table for snacking.
The menu has a dozen or so appetizers followed by the sandwich offerings: burger, filet mignon, grilled chicken, portabella or shiitake mushroom, blt, grilled cod, lump crab cake, grilled boneless halibut, grilled Mahi, and pork loin. All sandwiches are served with choice of lettuce, tomato, pickle, onions, banana peppers, mayo, and two slices of American or Swiss cheese. In addition there are many add-on toppings, cheeses, and sauces. It was a little intimidating for a first timer and perhaps a list of some customer favorite combinations could help.
I went with the grilled chicken sandwich ($8.50) and had it covered in all the standard toppings including Swiss cheese. I also had the onion and banana peppers grilled before being added on top. Potato chips are offered on the side or you can upgrade to fresh-cut fries for $2, which I did. Meals are served on paper plates, no silverware is provided, and one large knife is given to the table to share to cut the sandwiches in half if desired. The sandwich was large and the toppings were fresh, however it seemed a little expensive at $10.50 for my plate. Â I also found it to be a little dry and probably should have added a sauce to the sandwich, but those cost at least $2.25 more.
I was disappointed to find out that there is no kids menu at Terry's. If they are already creating their burger patties by hand, why not add a cheaper version for the kids? Their answer was to order a grilled cheese ($4) but there was no way my demanding two-year-old wasn't getting his cheese burger. We had no option but to order the $8.50 burger for him and hope he would like it enough to eat the leftovers too. He did seem to enjoy the burger, but with a 100 word vocabulary I'm not sure how much of a review he can give.
My wife ordered the lump crab cake sandwich with fries ($11.50). She said that the crab cake was good, not the best she's had in town, but still a solid alternative to a hamburger. I did not try her sandwich but I did steal a few of her fries after I had finished mine. These fresh-cut fries reminded me a lot of fries we used to make at home when I was growing up. They were relatively thick cut and fried well to a golden brown. These are definitely an upgrade over the included Wavy Lay's style potato chips.
Overall I found Terry's Turf Club to be overpriced and not very kid friendly. The burgers may be one of the best in the city, but their other sandwiches leave a little to be desired. I doubt I will return.
Okay, I know this is an unpopular opinion but I don't like Terry's Turf Club. Burgers are always great but every time I go here I am always unimpressed. I think the burgers are too big, and with all the toppings they become inedible. I also always come away with an upset stomach and I think its because the food is so rich. Because this Terry's is a Cincinnati staple, I feel guilty not liking it, but whatever, its just one person's opinion.
Review Source:My boyfriend and I came here for dinner one night, after one of my coworkers suggested it to me. I wasn't really sure what to expect, and was a little surprised when we were seated at the same table as another couple. It seemed a little awkward at first, but once I got used to the idea it was fine. The decor was unique, with signs, etc. hanging on the walls.
We ordered the filet mignon chili as an appetizer, and it was amazing! I had to stop myself from eating too much of it, so that I'd have room for my burger. We both ordered burgers with chips. I don't quite remember what additions I ordered on my burger (I got suggestions from our server as to what was the best), but it was great! Definitely a large burger, though. I ended up taking about half of it home to eat for lunch the next day.
Overall, it was a good experience, and I would definitely go back :)
Terry's has suffered, in my opinion, a large drop off that I feel is largely due to the big head they've gotten from all of their popularity. Don't get me wrong, the food is good, better than average. It's not however what it used to be. And this makes me sad.
The first sign that the tides were shifting was when we were eating here recently for lunch and we saw an employee walking in with some product. The product, was the ground meat. The ground meat, was from Kroger. This struck me as odd because this is the same ground meat I buy at home for quick meals. Same packaging and everything. I thought Terry's "thing" was that they used Kobe beef. This was definitely not any sort of high quality meat. To make it worse, it also tasted like the meat I have at home from Kroger. Nothing special about it at all.
Also, the prices here are outrageous. The whole paying per additional topping is ludacris. For two people, two burgers and two beers we were beating at the door of $50 bucks. I can get much better burgers at many places. Including Nicholson's, Mad Mikes, and Senate. And I don't have to pay an arm and a leg for it.
Listen, Terry's is going to continue to make money because they do have decent food, don't get me wrong. The atmosphere is cool and hip and they have a massive following. It's just that I would never go out of my way to get one of their burgers anymore. It's just not that high up on my best burger list. I think they need to go back to what made them famous. And hint, hint, it's not Guy Fierri.
Terry's is hard to classify.
On one hand, it's a burger joint that offers baskets of free peanuts for you to eat and then throw on the floor. On the other hand, the menu is more sophisticated than you would expect and the prices are higher too.
I entered the restaurant, the offerings of which should be right in my wheelhouse, with high hopes. I left disappointed because the burgers were nothing special. In my eyes, the atmosphere is what works here. What did not work was the taste of the food, the service, and the damage done to my wallet.
A final comment on the service: I had to order my drink twice. One of our burger orders was wrong. And the host undershot our wait by a whopping 37 minutes. We were quoted 30 minutes, but waited 67!
Lunch on a Sunday late in the afternoon. Crowded, but we were seated quickly. Our two year old was a bit out of control since he had just awoke in the car from a nap. The host, Jim, did a great job bringing food and snacks to calm him down. Solid burger and fries. Hit the spot! Highly recommended.
Review Source:Terry's Turf Club is great. Â I only eat here about once a year. Â The Fries are good, and the burger are a bit on the pricey side. Whenever I do eat here, I feel like I did something very bad. Â It's probably just my cholesterol speaking. Â It's a good burger, but not my favorite in the city. Â The place is small and gets really crowded on the weekends.
Review Source:I'm not sure how warranted this update is since I'm not changing the star rating, but I just wanted to say that I went back to Terry's early on a Friday evening to beat the crowd (which I recommend because when we left there was a long wait) and had a great meal. I ordered a burger with the halloumi cheese per the recommendation of a friend and the foghorn leghorn sauce. The halloumi, a hard cheese that they grill (and it doesn't melt....?) was an interesting addition to the sandwich and melded well with the foghorn leghorn sauce, which consists of sundried tomatos, lots of garlic, and a few other things.
Once again, not the best actual BURGER I've ever had, if we're talking meat specifically. The burger was a tad dry for my taste, but it didn't make for a bad meal, and the excellent variety of toppings makes up for it. In addition, the service at Terry's is FANTASTIC. The workers really strive to make sure you have a good meal and time while you're there, even though the space is a bit cramped and the place gets crowded. Also in addition, great beer selection including Chimay Blue. Oh, and you can throw peanut shells on the floor so that's a bonus!
Okay, so Terry's is as good as advertised, but pricey. One burger, fries and a beer was $20! Come on?! I got a cheese burger with the Road Island Red sauce and it was as good a burger as I've ever had. It's just not where I'd eat a burger more than once a year if I have to add a line to my budget to justify it. If you can open your mouth to a great burger, but close your eyes when you open your wallet then maybe Terry's should be a stop. That's why four stars.
Review Source:I really enjoyed coming to this place. Even though we waited what seemed like forever, it was definite worth it. Not only do they have a wide selection of unusual beers, but they also had probably THE BEST burger of my life. Well worth it. Just be prepared to wait (we waited about an hour) for a table and for the bill (with your toppings, your burger can be quite pricey). However, like I said: the drinks, food, service, and ambiance (lots and lots of cheesy neons - I love!) make the trip there well worth it!
Review Source:We thoroughly enjoyed our dining experience here. But be advised this place is not for the thrifty. But if you are willing to splurge you will not be disappointed!
It's so much more then just a hamburger place. The flavor pairings are very unique and have not had flavors like these offered very often. Only place that comes close is the blue door in St.Paul, MN. But since Cincinnati is much closer from Indiana I am more than happy to have this place be my hamburger spot on a weekend getaway anytime!
I had the burgundy wine sauce with mushrooms and Swiss cheese on my hamburger. I hate mushrooms but after reading and seeing it made I sucked it up to try it, and it was amazing. Honestly could not even tell there were mushrooms in it at all. Fries were crispy although filling cause its a big burger!
My husband had the foghorn leghorn sauce and that too was a mouthwatering adventure. We saved a bite of it for my dogs in the car and even my dog who is scared to eat anything normally out of my hand ate five small bites from my hand, it was monumental and must be good because the only other thing he will eat is burnt end chili from a place in Kansas, so this sauce must be legit. It's even terrified dog approved.
I loved the decor of the place. Specially the beer fridges. The staff was helpful and friendly as well. I honestly can't wait to return.
Best burger in town! Â The atmosphere is loaded with character, and the entire experience of ordering and eating your burger is as fun as the burger itself. Â We were sat at a table with another pair of people just to save room, and that added to the excitement of being in a popular place. Â The burgers were outstanding!
Review Source:This place is everything Diners Drive-ins and Dives portrayed and more. Â I had once heard of this place a while back, from a well know Chef friend here in Cincinnati, Chef Cristian Piestoso. Â He said it was the best place to eat in Cincy, especially late night. Â Decided to try it to sober up one night after a concert at Rivers Bend, boy am I glad I did. Â I've even been back sober;)
First the neon lights and jazz/swing band playing is a phenomenal setting. Â Love the black and white checked floor, and the old school upright sliding door cooler for the beers. Â Which they have a great beer and wine selection. You have peanuts on your table to start with, and can throw the shells on the floor, just be careful if you are in my aforementioned state, don't slip on them. Â
Who knew you could get gourmet Pate at a late night burger joint? Â Wow, blew my mind. Â Chicken and Foie Gras pate, served with pita bread and a sweet marmalade, so good and creamy. Â The burgers are to die for. Â There are so many options for types of meat, cheeses, hand made toppings. Â My favorite time and time again is the Filet Mignon with Bearnaise sauce. Â It is literally a Filet steak. Â I thought it would be ground, no, a whole steak. Â The meat just fell apart and the Bearnaise sauce was so creamy and velvety. Â I actually can't bring myself to get a different burger when I go back, I do try my husbands though. Â That's a win win for me. Â The hand cut french fries are incredible, blanched and fried perfectly.
This place is a must try in Cincy, no matter if you live here or are just passing by. Â I was so surprised and lucky to eat here.
How things have changed. I first tried Terry's two years ago - pretty sure I was the only one eating a the counter. On this stop, at about 8pm, the place was totally packed. I truly could not fathom that I was in the same place.
They've got a great selection of beer and toss in peanuts and you can't ask for more.
While waiting for my burger a local offered up half of his grilled cheese sandwich. I don't even think gc is on the menu, but it was toasted so well and full of cheesy goodness. Thanks, Todd!
The burger itself was HUGE. I couldn't even finish this thing. Dissecting the patty, it seemed to be seasoned with just salt and pepper which is totally my favorite.
Oh! And they have big-ass bottles of beer. I went with the Three Philosophers, a QUAD Belgian Style @ 9.8%. Wow, I'm going to need to pickup some of this at home!
MEGA BURGER! Delicious flavor in the beef and special sauces. Toppings choices are endless. This is the place where you bring your hunger to the table and friends. It is a unique atmosphere and the waiters are nice.
However, I wish they had mini burgers so I could at least finish my meal. Also, remember the price of the burger is a bit shocking added with one beer. For two burgers and two drinks, it was about $50.00. Your paying for the quality in your burger and I mean it.
I have never had a better tasting or more enjoyable burger in my life! Â I am not a local, but have a friend that lives in the area and he says it gets crowded. Â We went for a late diner and it was well worth waiting for. Â All of their burgers are custom, you pick everything you want on it and nothing you don't. Â That being said, it is a huge burger! Â I often contemplate driving back to Cincinnati just to eat in this restaurant. Â I'm getting hungry just thinking about it...
Review Source:On lock down.
DO:
-The burger of course! Any way you want.
-Try one of their signature sauces. I personally enjoy anything with curry.
DON'T:
-I haven't tried all of the burgers in Cinci, but this is my #1 as of 9/21/12
PARKING:
-Street parking
I need to get this out of the way first - Terry's Turf Club is not cheap ($10+ for a burger, $20+ easily with extra toppings/fries/drinks). Depending on the toppings you choose, the price can rise very quickly. I usually just order the regular burger with all of the free trimmings, which is plenty for me. But on those rare occasions I will add a special sauce. I haven't tried all of them, but anything with curry seems to really hit the spot for me. Terry's has burgers on lockdown in Cinci. Take my word for it.
The strong reviews of Terry's Turf Club and the national attention from foodie-types including Guy Fieri are all well deserved. You don't need me to tell you how great it is, when these are rated the #1 burgers in Ohio. This review is more about strategy.
#1 You have to go to Terr'ys Turf Club. You have to. If you start a conversation with me by saying "I've never been to Terry's Turf Club" you will soon be in my car, driving down the highway about to get your eat on and will forever be in my debt. You just have to go.
#2 You don't have to go on a weekend, or otherwise busy time. Have an early dinner. Go for lunch. This place gets packed and unfortunately leaves people waiting for hours to be seated. Plan accordingly.
#3 If you do have to wait for a few minutes, grab a drink at the bar, grab a bowl of peanuts, and sit out front on the stadium seats.
#4 You don't have to get the fries. They are pretty good, but they aren't included in the price of your burger. Take it or leave it, but if you take it, you have to pay an extra $2.
#5 You should get a sauce. Mango chutney is highly recommended.
#6 You can unabashedly throw your peanut shells on the floor. It's ok. You won't be the first to do it.
#7 This should go without saying, but you should come hungry. Also, I shouldn't have to say this, but you need to order a burger.
My wife saw this place on Diners, Drive-ins, and Dive and when we had to go to Cincy, she said we had to go. Â It is as I had expected - - nostalgia inside and out, neon lights, and signs everywhere. Â There is no off-street parking and the first thing you will notice is that you will probably have to park about a block away. Â We figured that the place would be packed and our when we went in we were correct. Â In fact they must have gotten in just about every table that they could fit in the little bar they could. Â We were seated at a table for 6 and were told that other probably would have to be seated with us - - no problem - - really it's a bar. Â
Now for the food. My wife and I shared a simple burger with lettuce and tomato perfectly cooked to medium-well done. Â The only difference being that my wife put on some kind of mango sauce on her burger and I didn't. Â Great burger one very best that I have ever tasted and my wife loved the mango sauce. Â The fries were very good. Â We also had the chili. Â It was ok - - my only suggestion here is that the restaurant should serve it with beans and rice. Â What can I say, we are Filipino and everything needs to be served with rice. And beans, you remember the old saying - - beans, beans they're good for your heart the more you eat the more you'll ________. Â They give you a basket of peanuts while you wait for your food - - just throw the shells on the floor. Â Even though Terry's is basically a bar, we didn't have any adult beverages we choose iced tea which was refreshing on a hot summer day.
There is plenty of food on the menu and I can recommend this spot to anyone when you are in Cincinnati - - you won't be disappointed. Â Enjoy.
I had heard so many rave reviews about this place that I couldn't wait to go. Â We got there 15 minutes before it opened and there was already a line out the door. Â Luckily, we didn't have to wait very long to be seated.
First thing to note, if you didn't know, it's European style seating. Â In other words if your party is less than the number of seats at the table, other people WILL be sitting with you during your meal. Â This bothers some, but not us.
Second, the space is small, but the decor is fun. Â Third, there seem to be plenty of wait staff, but for some reason, it takes forever to get your order if you want to look over the menu. Recommend knowing what you want before you get seated, that way you can order everything at the first shot and not have to wait.
Fourth...the burgers...eeehhh...wasn't impressed. Â I realize that they are made to order, as is the price. Â For anything you want to add to the basic burger (besides basics), it'll cost ya $2.25-$6. At this point it's becoming an expensive buger, but I don't mind paying for good food. Â The burger was HUGE, so for the quantity to cost ratio, it works. Â Just wasn't very tasty/flavorful. Â I don't know if it's because of the combo I got (Mango Curry sauce & Goat cheese) or if it's just not that good.
I will go there again, and this time just get the straight burger, without adding much to it & see what the flavor really is and if it truely is worth it.
After driving around aimlessly looking for something decent to eat late at night, my friend announced we were going to Terry's. He said it was a burger place. I was a little skeptical because I'm not really a burger person. But he assured me I would like it. So we called up a couple other buddies of ours and we all headed over.
Terry's Turf Club is probably the most eccentric looking place I've seen here in Cincinnati. It sort of reminds me of some of the local places I've visited near the beach in North Carolina. I'm not even sure why it reminded me of the beach, it just did.
We ordered- I got a chicken burger with roasted red pepper and goat cheese..and got lots of grief from the guys, who told me if I didn't order an actual burger I would have to move to another table and sit by myself.
It's not a very big place but it didn't feel overcrowded even though it was pretty much packed. Which was probably why it took about an hour to get our order. I didn't really mind because we were all just sitting around talking.
My burger was really good, it was a lot of food though so I didn't quite finish everything. It's a super casual place, and served on paper plates. I'm not sure if that's something they do all the time..not that it bothers me.. I guess it cuts down on someone having to do dishes. I heard the filet mignon chili is awesome so maybe I'll try that next time.
This place has tacky written all over it...We were greeted by the host outside and he brought us to our seats; there was no space between us and the table next to us, we were pretty much sitting together. The waitress came up to us and took our orders individually, with our names, type of burger and toppings.
We ordered the Portabella w/ out mayo and peppers and the Burger Not So Wellington; we split half-half. Both of the burgers were good, but definitely on the heavy side. They were cooked and stacked to perfection. The pâté in the Not So Wellington was delicious as well. When the waiter brought us the burgers, he looked at me and then said, " I'll bring you a knife and fork." I thought it was a nice gesture and I really appreciated it because the burgers were huge. It was overall a nice experience and since it was mentioned in Diners, DriveIns & Dives, I thought it was worth a try! This place is small, so it's best to go for an early dinner on a weeknight.
Not the best burger I've ever had in my life but I do appreciate the experience.
Terry's Turf Club is like nothing you have ever seen before. The outside looks like Americana threw up on it. Drenched in beautiful Neon lights this place is a sight for sure.
We went with a group and even though there was a wait we still had such a great time. We drank some beer out on the little patio and then ventured in to even MORE neon lights!
I got the special wine burgundy burger with caramelized mushrooms and onions and I have to be honest it didn't wow me. Not the best but not the worst. I would say just okay. One piece of advice, SPLIT the burger! After we all had finished there was so much left!
Overall a great place to bring people from out of town. A fun and historic Cincinnati tradition.
How much fun is this place? All neon and bright colors! We sat outside eating peanuts and drinking beers while waiting for our table. Once in we were greeted by the friendliest waiter.
We started with Halloumi cheese caprese salad that was so good. The cheese is friend first and served warm with the tomatoes. I got the order to share with my table and was sorry I didn't get a 2nd.
The waiter takes each order on an individual ticket with your name on it so when they bring the plates to the table they call your name and know exactly who's order it is. Neat system.
Burger were delicious. Huge! ANd did I mention delicious? Tons of choices to add to your burger to make each one unique.
Parking was tough and it is a long wait because the place is small. Just deal with it. Its worth the experience.
There's really not much I can add that hasn't already been said in the other 200+ yelp reviews.
Kitchy decor is fun.
Burgers with a variety of sauces that aren't overcooked is wonderful and the cooked part is increasingly rare.
Sitting down with a group of 12 within 20 minutes is just plain over the top service wise.
Attentive services after being seated is ever more over the top.
Look, I might want to complain about it being a bit too crowded but that's like complaining about Manhattan having too many people. It's freakin' Manhattan! And this is freakin' Terry's Turf Club.
Five stars only because http://yelp.com doesn't allow us six.
I can't say for certain that Terry's has the best burger around as I feel I need to do more research. But if it is not the best burger, it has got to be close. Plan to arrive early if eating on a weekend night, as it is always packed. The service is excellent, and they always the best of ingredients. Appetizers are also solid (I usually go with the haloumi cheese).
Not to be overlooked is the fact they also have a very solid craft beer lineup. The bottle selection is very good, though I can't say all the lighting in the place is great for keeping the beer in ideal shape. There are not many place in town where you can grab a Belgian beer to enjoy with your burger and fries.
Looking for some quiet conversation? OK, you might be out of luck here. Terry's has the music going a full volume whether a live band is playing or not. Still, you are going to have fun and enjoy yourself, even if you are almost yelling & using short phrases.
Overall, Terry's Turf club is great stop for adults (not ideal for kids) looking for a great burger & a little grown up time. Give it a try, you'll like it.
This Cincinnati landmark can't figure out if it's dive or gourmet - in a good way. Â With neon signs literally covering every piece of wall space, customers are invited to throw their empty peanut shells on the floor while ordering a burger topped with the likes of French Triple Creme Brie cheese, lump crab meat or a Burgundy and wild mushroom sauce. And that homemade chili? It's made with Filet Mignon, not ground beef. It's details like that which make this place burger heaven.
Pro Move: go on off hours if you plan on actually getting a table.
I am not sure what is so good about this place. Â My wife and I dined recently at this place on Sunday. Â It was crowded as the other reviews state. Â We enjoy places that are packed and never mind waiting. Â We grabbed some beers from the bar. Â The place has an excellent beer list. Â Don't grab a seat at the bar because these are all seated by the host, which defeats the purpose of a bar. Â The decor is very cool.
We waited about 35 minutes and then sat with another couple who were very friendly. Â The waiter offered up all of his favorites and we actually went with his recommendations. Â We ordered the deviled eggs appetizer. Â It basically is a standard deviled egg (sweet) with a shrimp in the middle and a sweet sauce over the top. Â I enjoyed it and found it tasty. Â My wife hated it because she is not a fan of sweet things. Â We both went with the burgers and split a fry. Â This was the waiters recommendation and the burger server on Diners and Dives. Â The burger would probably be decent, but the sauce is so overwhelming. Â We went with the recommended sauce which was a peppercorn, brown and thick sauce. Â It was overwhelming and actually ruined the burger. Â The fries were delicious.
It concerns me that people actually think this is the best burger ever. Â I can name several better burgers. Â Go down the street to the Oakley Pub and get great service and a really good burger.
We will not go back except to maybe have a beer.
I LOVED this place! It was everything I had heard from everyone who told me such wonderful things before and it was definitely worthy of being on Diner's, Drive-ins, and Dives.
The whole place is so incredibly over the top with gaudy neon signs and in your face decor. It was excellent. I loved the presence of a texture as you walked in too(discarded peanut shells); it gave such character.
Oh yeah, they make a darn good burger too. I can't remember what I got, but it was well worth the originally intimidating price. I loved all of the options and loved how I felt afterward; stuffed and impressed. The service was friendly and generally pretty quick. Great experience and I think all Cincinnatians should check it out.
5 stars for a burger joint? Â Really? Â Yes, really! Â Before we even get to the food, let me tell you what I loved about this place. Â The neighborhood - right in the middle of residential/industrial. Â I love the mom & pop feel to the joint. Â Coming from Detroit I can appreciate this joint decked out for the working class. Â The people - from the host to the waitress to the staff who just walked around checking to make sure a fun time was had by all - they were all just great down to earth people. Â The decor - it was crazy fun and gave the place a unique feel. Â I loved the antique drink coolers.
Now...on to the food....both couples split an order of the wonderful filet mignon chili. Â Pricey? Â Yes. Â Served in a paper bowl with a plastic spoon? Â Wouldn't have it any other way. Â The four of us all raved about our burgers. Â Cooked to perfection...coming out from the kitchen looking like a work of art...they were almost too beautiful to eat. Â Almost...
I would not hesitate to go back here if I'm ever in the Cincinnati area again. Â If you haven't been, go and check it out!
