Fresh food, good selection, pleasant staff, reasonably priced.

We enjoyed our experience here and will return!

Quintessential Irish pub. What sets them apart is the atmosphere - They've put a lot of love into the decor, and it creates an air of authenticity. The food is pretty good. Not spectacular, but definitely worth eating while you puzzle your way through the weekly Stump Trivia there.

This is the best pub in the area. Staff are incredible and it is a great place to hang out for a beer with our infant in the early evening and feel at home. It was great before kids and is still amazing now that we have the little one. In addition to their beers on tap, good burgers and fish and chips.

Oh dear.  The staff is great, and who doesn't enjoy a cold beer? If you want to eat, however, go somewhere else.  I am sad to report the kitchen staff does not know what they are doing.

I'm no foodie, and I understand there's a certain fried, heaviness about Irish pub fare. Here are some things I really dislike about the food:

All chicken wraps/sandwiches are the same rubbery, plain chicken with flavored sauce squirted on (buffalo, BBQ, etc.)

There is whole canned baby corn in most of the salads.

Every time I've ordered a meal with a side of green veggies, they taste like they are from the freezer... not fresh or of any flavor.

I have yet to be served a piece of meet or fish cooked to my satisfaction. The salmon was dry and over cooked. My final attempt was an order of cesar salad with steak tips, and I had to send it back because the steak tips were charcoal biscuits... and I had ordered medium well.

Come on, Tommy. What's going on? You have the potential to be the best blue collar bar in Newton. Please educate your kitchen staff so I can come back and enjoy your lovely atmosphere!

Real, authentic Boston-Irish food. I love their corned beef sandwich, the only place I know around that uses tender chunks of red beef instead of the thin shaved grey stuff. The cheeze is melted perfect and the bread is lightly tosted with big steak fries on the side. A real Irish-American lunch. Great clean atmosphere. Pleasant staff. Fast service. Accurate orders. I love this place.

Was looking for a place to get steamed mussels while in the area. Used my Yelp app to help find TD's. Didn't realize it was Stump Trivia night. I stuck around while enjoying my mussels and clam chowder. Service was good. They were very nice. Unfortunately they don't have a grill grill. Just the flat grill like at Mickey D's. I wanted to order some wings grilled. Been to a few places who do that and they were awesome. I took a shot.

Marginally better than west street, but still pretty crappy. If you want a good Irish pub go to o'haras or dunn and gherin. The lake is lacking a good Irish place sorely.

The only reason i've gone here repeatedly is they have karaoke and trivia. The food is mediocre and overpriced. Ive had the tips, fish, salads, and a bunch of apps. Some were passable but overall they get a "Meh" grade.

Good neighborhood bar that serves a good pint of Guinness.  What more do you really want?  Burgers/ fish and chips are pretty good, the rest of the food decent but I am not sure one should expect more from the culinary giant that is Ireland (unless they start serving blood sausage).  I'm not into trivia or karaoke, but they do have live music which is a plus and I can stumble home.

My husband and I like to frequent trivia nights. Stump trivia there is great, as it always is, but the patrons are very smart. That isn't really a complaint, but we usually win at least third, so the extra money is nice, we just know not to expect it here.

Went there a second time, first time was ok, but the second was inexcusable. Place wasn't crowded, so we sat at a booth. Before we could order, we were asked to move because a large party was coming in, so we agreed to move to the less comfortable, non-booth table next to the crowded bar. We partly agreed because they said they would comp our drinks for the inconvenience, they didn't! On top of that, that party never came in the whole two hours we were there for trivia. I also have a gluten allergy, so I asked the waitress if the steak tips were safe, giving her the run down on what type of ingredients contain gluten and to please ask the chef, etc. She said they were fine. They came out, ate about two, wasn't that impressed. Then she came out and said that they actually did have gluten.... A horrible night was made worse by me ending up on the toilet until 2am, thanks for a horrible night Tommy Doyle's!!!

Horrible nachos, brutal shrimp cocktail, gross soups and a pretty ho-hum atmosphere.  So why two stars? The service, outdoor seating, and decent drinks.  Doubt I'll be back.

They poured me a Pretty Things draught that was pure cloudy brown - exactly like an apple cider.  I asked the bartender if he thought it looked normal and he shrugged. I didn't drink it AT ALL and it was still on the check. I've worked in the industry and understand that servers can't know or even be responsible for food/drink that isn't up to par.  But they ARE responsible for managing how that sub-par food or drink is handled with a customer.  Buh bye.

I have had a great time in here and had amazing food 9 times out of 10. The last trip thou was a failure. My meal was almost inedible and when the waitress asked I told her as much. Expecting a re-fire all I got was a "Sorry to hear that". That lack of a reasonable response left me unsatisfied and I don't expect to return anytime soon. I would have given it 4 stars because I have enjoyed myself and the food but that last visit cost it a star.

I was in Boston for work staying at the Crowne Plaza on Washington and found out about Tommy Doyle's with a quick search on Yelp and we were not disappointed in the least!  The food was phenomenal (I had the Donegal Scallops, my co-workers had the stuffed shrimp and shephard's pie) and a couple of pints of a beer.  The staff was friendly and we were fortunate enough to stop in on a Tuesday for Open Mic night (which is sometimes nerve-wracking) but the two performers were great and provided an excellent ambiance to our warm Irish meal.  I finished the evening with a Dinny's Deep Dish Apple Crisp (which I could have shared with my two other diners but gluttonously ate on my own!)

I would definitely recommend this place to anyone, whether you're just visiting or live nearby!

I live about spitting distance from Tommy Doyle's, so I've been there quite a few times now and love it.

It's a nice little bar, not tons of space between the tables next to the bar and the bar itself, but if it's not super busy (which I'm pretty sure unless its' a Friday or Saturday night it won't be) it hasn't been a problem. Aand the back area has quite a few large tables with plenty of room.

The food's really good. I've gotten quite a few different things and haven't had anything to complain about with any of it. First time, I got the Turkey Cobb wrap in a wheat wrap. AHmazing. Their 'house sauce' is some delicious combo of I think ranch and spices, and it's got a nice crunch to it with bacon and baby corn. I will definitely be getting it again. It also comes with either fries or a salad, both are good. Salad not too over dressed and the fries are steak fry-y. I've also gotten the quesadilla, the california wrap, and several other things I can't remember off the top of my head.

They have a pretty good selection of beer since they've added a whole new row of taps.  They also seem to have quite a few random beers that you might not find typically find on tap elsewhere. I've been into the Paulaner seasonal lately, and I can't seem to find it any many other places. I like that I can get a beer there that I won't find it any bar.

They usually have really good live music, karaoke 2 nights a week, and trivia. Good happenings for a small place. Also, and this is heresay, I've heard that they give half off appetizers or something along those lines to sports teams that come in after games. I don't know if it's every day or just some days, but I've seen quite a few teams come in clearly post-game. It's something worth checking out if you play an adult league sport in the Newton area.

All in all, I love Tommy Doyle's. The entire staff is really friendly, from waitresses to bartenders. The food is good and reasonably priced, as are the drinks.

Completely forgot about this place until Friday night, glad it's back on our radar.

Been here many times and we've had the curry fries, boiled dinner, shepherds pie and burgers- all of which are really good.

The servers are great for the most part (some awesome, some ok), bar is relaxing and comfortable, plenty of TVs to catch the game.

This would be four stars if it weren't for the trivia night.  This is the shadiest stump trivia venue in greater Boston. Even the jockey is in on it.  It's blatantly obvious he caters to friends and people he knows when teams have more points that are conceivably possible to attain after certain rounds.  In addition, the quicker your smartphone, the greater your chances of victory, it's the wild west of stump....anything goes .

Quiet. Beer. Sandwiches. TV. Happy Sunday at 1:00 PM.

The place was empty, my friend and I sat wherever we liked (per instruction), got served right away by a very nice gal (Irish to be sure). I had a chicken parm sandwich, which may have left something to be desired, but the fries were awesome! the big fat steak-cut ones. YUM. My friend had the buffalo chicken sandwich. He seemed happy enough.

What a lovely poor of Guinness!

Try: Guinness and a sandwich (not chicken parm. Maybe a burger).

I went here on a sunday night with the gf and was surpised to find a band was plaing blues, rock and doing some kariokee. The band was good and people were really getting into it. The chili I order was epically bad. Like tomato sauce and very low grade meat.  Not only was it canned chili but it was really bad canned chili.  Not sure why they even put it on the menu if they're going to half ass it. Never going to order food here again cause either the chef is terrible or just non existent.  Also waitress didn't ask why I hardly ate any of it.  So the music and atmposphere were 5 stars and the food was 1 stars averaging out to 3 stars for tommy's.

I came here for lunch with a friend since we were in the area.  I have been to the one in Kendall Square and always enjoyed it.

It was very empty but we enjoyed the quiet since we were catching up.  I ordered the reuben and it was rather good.  It was warm, juicy, and a bit messy.  I am not a huge fan of steak fries but these were not too mealy.

All in all, it is a good place for some Irish bar grub and I am pretty sure you can't go wrong with anything on their menu.

Solid neighborhood bar for after-work drinks or lunch. I always get the potato skins which are crispy potato halves filled with melted cheese (not the nasty wiz kind) & bacon and come w/ sour cream and chives. I also like their burgers and their steak fries.
Nice to sit by the large open windows when the weather is warm.

I'm giving this three stars, but it might have four star potential. I went there on Labor Day with my boyfriend. It was pretty empty, but still nice since they have big open windows and we were able to sit right in front of them.

I thought it would be so-so food and good service, but it was the opposite of what I expected. I got the chili and the spinach salad and my boyfriend go the fish and chips. We were very happy with the food, but the server was not friendly. It wasn't until we paid the bill and I asked her if it was the same Tommy Doyle's in Harvard Square that she seemed to warm up slightly, but it really wasn't much and way too late in the game.  So I give a 4 on the food and a generous 2 on the service.

It's close to home and I will give it another go, but will make a point not to sit at her station or try eating at the bar.

I really want to give this place 2.5 stars-3, but I just can't for the following reasons:

-Weak, Expensive Drinks (A gin and soda was almost $9)
    -The bartender was super unfriendly
-It was really dead in there, but in all fairness, it was a Wednesday evening.

The reasons I would come back: Karaoke. The guy running karaoke was super friendly and I really like sound system. Only downer is the monitor, which sits on the floor, making it hard to read the lyrics and sing to a crowd...if there was one ;-)

    Cute little bar though =)

I can't believe I had never been here before! I wanted a decent place without too many loud mouth idiots to watch the Celtics playoffs.

This place was perfect. Everyone was into the game but not obnoxiously so. The food was good, waitresses didn't pressure at all and most were full blood Irish themselves.

Great atmosphere, great food, nice open layout too. Gotta give this place a try for dinner or a nice relaxed drink.

I was pleasantly surprised by Tommy Doyle's. I admittedly did not want to come here and put my husband off for a few months. He went with other people- friends, father, etc but alas, I still refused.

I'm glad I gave in! The food was tasty, and there was a good selection of options including some items that you can definitely lighten up (which I am always looking for).

The servers have been friendly and welcoming. This restaurant makes us both happy, which you can't beat.

The food itself, was your above average pub-grub, but the service was where the 5-star review comes into play.  I hadn't been to Tommy Doyle's in years, but my husband and I decided to go somewhere different for lunch.  They have great front window that open to the side walk and we sat at a high-top near the bar.

Fred, our bartender, was amazing.  He was friendly without being overbearingly so.  The restaurant was expecting an incredibly large party that was going to take over one half of the restaurant, but our food was delicious and timely and the beers were quick to be refilled.  Fred even gave me a small sample of a beer I hadn't had which was awesome.  Bottom line - my husband and I were impressed with our overall visit, but especially the service.  We'll be back.

Just moved into the neighborhood about 6 months ago and this was our first stop.  Every time we stop here my wife and i are impressed with the service here.  The waitresses remember our names and practically our orders (bc we are creatures of habit) every single time.  Priced reasonably and the food always lives to expectations.  Strongly recommend this joint for the following reasons:

    1.  great service
    2.  great portions
    3. cool environment

We usually go for lunch or dinner i still have to try the brunch.

A couple years ago when my friend lived in Watertown he, along with his wife, took me out to dinner here.  I had a very enjoyable time and remembering leaving very happy.  Since then I haven't had much of a chance to return to Tommy Doyle's even when I moved to the area about a year ago.

So, last night my best friend and I had some time away from our significant others and decided to meet here for dinner after work.  Finding parking along Watertown Street was tricky, I had to keep my eyes peeled for a spot and be ready to park quick!  Luckily I found a spot not too far from the restaurant about a block away.

When we arrived at the doors shortly before 6pm I expected for a bit of a wait being it was a Friday night.  Thankfully we were seated right away an earshot away from the bar.  Customers began coming in and within about 20 minute the restaurant was just about full.  Tommy Doyle's attracts all kinds of customers: working professionals, college students, families, etc.  Our waitress came over, gave us a pair of menus, asked us what we would like to drink and said she would return shortly to take our orders.

It was difficult coming to a decision because the menus has lots of great options to choose from.  My eye jumped from Chicken Kiev to the NY Sirloin to the various choices of hamburgers.  Coming to a choice wasn't easy but I was in the mood for a juicy hamburger and asked for "The Kingdom Burger."  My friend had "The Hill 16."  Each burger was perfectly cooked to our liking and came with a serving of hot french fried spuds.  As we sat drinking our Sam Adams beers, eating burgers I couldn't help but notice that this is a great place to come.  The atmosphere is clean, staff is friendly and everything is reasonably priced.  Tommy Doyle's is a great neighborhood restaurant and I'm very happy that it's less than 2 minutes from my house.  I can expect to make more trips once the warmer weather arrives.

Any place that serves up nice cold pints of Harp gets a thumbs up from me. This place is just like a pub from back home. Bottles, beer mats and pictures cover almost every inch of the wall. The menu is pretty nice too. We had already eaten before we came here but when i saw garlic mushrooms on the menu i couldnt resist! They were stuffed with cheese as opposed to liver pate like back home but thats ok.
They have a DJ on friday nights but based on last weeks turn out for him, he might not be there much longer.

Tommy Doyles is our office away from the office. If you are a tippingpoint labs client then you've been here before. If you're not a tippingpoint client maybe you should be. Then we can take you to lunch at Tommy D's as we call it.

The beer flows free. The service is always friendly- Emmet, Trisha and Jen always treat us like friends and the food is pretty good.

I always recommend the ranch wrap. Have a good time at Tommy Doyles.

Now I may be biased because they sponsor my softball team, but this is a really chill and relaxed place.  I've never once seen it crowded (which actually makes me feel bad) which was amazing on karaoke night (Saturday I think) because out group got up to sing about 10 times.  We sang to an essentially empty room, mind you, but that may have been due to our singing ability, not the bar atmosphere.

I'm not crazy about the fact that I can't get a pitcher of beer here (what can I say...I love to share!) and the prices can get a little steep.  But the food is always tasty, the service friendly, and parking has always been a cinch.  SO much better than the other Tommy Doyle's it's ridiculous.

came here on a sunday night. great ambiance. they had a blues band playing, but they are a bit too loud and my friends and i were trying to shout over the music.

Only been here once,  it was on a Sunday afternoon. I like the laid back atmosphere here. It has decent whiskey selection, and reasonable selection of beer on tabs.

As a foodie, i will give this pub a 4 star for its tasty traditional Irish stew. It was cooked with lamb, potatoes, carrot, celery, and Guinness!!!  Yummy!! I could see the image of myself enjoying this stew on a cold  and dark winter day.

BTW. it had soccer on TV, yeah!

They have a good beer selection and the owner/bar tender is friendly.  I'm not the nuts about the food.  It's average pub grub, but nothing I crave and go there to get.

There is usually a good crowd of locals, especially when there is a big sporting event on.  But it seems a bit TGI Fridays/Pub-in-a-box.  It doesn't have the feel of a pub that's been around a long time and naturally collected all of it's decorations.

Just a hop and a small skip from my place, Tommy Doyle's delivers on the neighborhood pub feel. We walked in around 8:30 on a Monday during trivia and had no problem getting a seat and getting served pretty quickly. The staff was super friendly and the decorations created the perfect setting. Plus, I'm a fan of anywhere that serves curry fries.

Two thumbs up and a promise for a return visit!

Tommy Doyle's is the easiest place for me to get to on my way home from work.  Its your standard Irish Pub and has a lot of locals.  The food is good, if you know what to get.  The prices are fine though I wish they had a little heavier of a pour.

    Recommended:
Anything on the Chef's section of the menu with the Shepperd's Pie being especially good.
    The burger is solid too.
Chicken Noodle Soup when they have it

    Not Recommended:
Chicken Cordon Blue - It's terrible.
I haven't ventured much out of the Chef's selections since but the feeling I get is that sticking to the Irish fare is a good idea.

The service is decent but can be a little hit or miss.  The bartenders are largely engaged with the regulars.  That's fine and fun until I need to cash out and they're carrying on at the other end of the bar.

It seems like every time I turn around there is a new Tommy Doyle's opening up.  I used to come here frequently with friends for drinks, until I decided that I would try some of their food.  I honestly don't understand why this place stays in business and continues to grow.  The food is way overpriced, which is somewhat acceptable if it was good, but it's so bad, I just have to laugh when I get my check.  What irks me is that they use really cheap, poor quality ingredients.  Basically, if you just want to drink beer, or order something that is hard to mess up on, like fries, TD's is a decent place to go, but I wouldn't really experiment here--I now take my business elsewhere to the many other Irish-pub options in the area.

I ate there last week and really enjoyed this place. My girlfriend had a pastrami sandwich and I had a pulled pork sandwich which was delicious. Both sandwich came with some big, thick steak fries which I like a lot more than the thin ones which most places serve. The food was good and hearty and portions generous.

The waiter was a bit slow because he was alone and overwhelmed but he was very nice and friendly, and helpful on recommendations. The decor is nice and very Irish-oriented due to the fact that it's an Irish pub. Great place, and the prices are more than decent!
