If you like big, slow-cooked, fall off the bone ribs, you need to get down to T's Place in Covington and get a rib sandwich for $7.50. I used to drive by this place on a weekly basis and never gave it the time of day. The solid reviews on Yelp convinced me to reverse course. I had the rib sandwich today and loved it. First off, it's not a sandwich by the traditional sense. It's two slices of white bread with a fat 4-bone slab of ribs slathered in homemade bbq sauce and saddled in between the slices of bread. $7.50 for 4 bones is a fantastic deal regardless of everything else. These ribs were very tasty, albeit a little too saucy for me as I prefer a dry rub. But they were cooked well, tasted fantastic and it was so filling I could barely finish the meal. In addition, the owner is super friendly and takes a lot of pride in his food. 4.5 stars if I could.

I hate to do give this place 2 stars, because I really wanted this to be awesome BBQ.

But it just was not that good, maybe it was contributed to the fact I picked it up at 5.50 on a Tuesday and he was closing up.

First impression was like walking into a "private" kitchen, one of his friends was sitting on a chair, and they were talking back and forth while he prepared my take out.
I hate to sound like a tourist, but to me that was cool as Sh***, you have no idea!

The food part:
I had the ribs with two sides, greens and coleslaw.
The greens were really good, definitely homemade, should have gone for double of that.
The coleslaw was OK, still trying to decide if it was homemade or not...

But the Ribs was not very good, it was dry and hard, like it was a few days old.
Which really bummed me out, because I was expecting angles to start singing when I took my first bite!

I am going to give T's a second chance, probably a 3rd one if needed, because I want this place to be awesome.
Mostly because I want to support my neighbourhood and I LOVE BBQ!

Hopefully I will be able to update this review with some more stars ASAP...

Wow, I'm a fan. I've been meaning to stop in and check this place out for quite some time. It seems I am always driving by just after they close. I love the painted window, and it's literally right around the corner from my home.

Anyway, today I made it a point to try this place for lunch. This is not a trendy little place that's going to impress clients or coworkers with much in the way of ambiance (or chairs for that matter.. T's Place is CARRY OUT ONLY), but you have try the rib sandwich.. At least order one for a friend or family member so you can watch them chuckle at the side-of-pig "Sandwich" you just handed them...

My sandwich was made up of 4 rib bones, but I bet it was close to a pound of meat. You can absolutely remove the bones to eat this as a sandwich, if you could find the other slice of bread.. The first bone I grabbed came out without any effort, and the other 3 were no more difficult. I swear they would have fallen out if I had shaken the sandwich a little. That was a good sign.

Flavor - The flavor was good. Everybody has an opinion about BBQ and Ribs. While this won't replace any other BBQ joints that I love, it sure has landed on the list of places I will frequent again. This is not Montgomery Inn and it sure as hell isn't a McRib. This is more like good home cooking, comfort food. The sauce is not the headliner here, it's the large mass of tasty smoked pig in front of you. Dig in..

The gentleman behind the counter was extremely polite and gracious. He explained that they are no longer serving burgers until they get their exhaust hood installed, etc. This didn't impact me, but 2 others that were stopping in seemed upset by this news. I will have to check out a burger when he get's things ready...

Oh baby, BBQ.

I thought this was a new joint but it turns out it's been around for about a year now, and the owner, Wayne, is just allowing word of mouth to spread. That's how I found out about it, and my god, am I glad I did.

T's (named for Wayne's daughter) is a take-away joint. You walk in and feel like you're in a kitchen ... because that's exactly where you are. A few counters, a sink, some nice paintings on the wall. This place feels like it's attached to someone's home, and that's just how the food tastes as well.

This is a no-frills kind of joint. You order the food and watch Wayne make it. It's then given to you in a Styrofoam take away container. There are no tables, so you have to take it to go, which is impossibly hard since it smells so good and you just want to devour it there. But damn is it worth the wait.

I got the recommendation, which was the rib sandwich, two sides and cord bread. And when I say rib sandwich, I don't mean two ribs on bread - I mean a GIANT slab of ribs, home cooked, barbecued and sauced on two pieces of white bread ... just because. These are bones in this thing, it is burnt and it is delicious!

The sides are fantastic too. Homemade delicious coleslaw, tasty mac and cheese, really good yellow potato salad and warm mashed potatoes. All great. My only complaint was with the cornbread, which was delicious but very very dry. It felt like he'd cooked it days ago, which truth be told, he probably had. It could have used some time in the microwave to soften up, but still, delicious.

And the best part - this whole meal was $8! Eight dollars for a giant meal. Amazing.

It's not the best BBQ in Cincinnati but it is by far the most home cooked one with personality, amazingly delicious, and easily the cheapest. Wayne is also such a nice guy, I really want to support this biz. Check it out and take it to go, you will not be unpleased.

I always pass by T's after hours, so today, I set aside some time to try it out. And WOW! I should have stopped by sooner.

T's is a small shop on the corner of 12th and Scott Street in Covington, right by Cathedral Basilica. The graffiti-style window art will catch your eye, as will the giant sign that says "Build Your Own Double Decker!" T's is a take-away restaurant, so there are no tables for dining. A few chairs line the wall for while you wait. Don't look for the menu on the wall; a counter to the left has a print out menu you can take with you. This afternoon the place was packed! Four other people were ahead of me in line. That's how you know its good cookin'.

I took Howard's suggestion of ordering the Rib Sandwich and a slice of apple cake. Don't expect a McRib, or even a glorified McRib. T's "Rib Sandwich" is more like an entire barbequed pig with a slice of bread stuck to it. See? http://www.yelp.com/biz_… What a rib! The meat was so tender that it was falling off the bone. The BBQ sauce was seasoned just right with a spiced, smokey taste. I only devoured half of the sandwich before getting full; the rest I boxed up for delicious leftovers!

In addition to the sandwich, I had a side of collard greens and mac n' cheese. Both were homemade and amazing. The mac n' cheese was warm, melty goodness and the greens had been stewing all day with savory flavor. Wayne, the owner, mentioned how he used to have daily sides, but everyone loved the greens and mac n' cheese so much, they'd get upset when it wasn't on the menu for the day. So now they're on his permanent menu, and I completely agree with his other customers. These sides are fantastic!

Finally, the Apple Bundt Cake. By the time I got around to dessert, I was stuffed from the Rib Sandwich, but decided to sneak a taste then save the piece for later. OHM-MY-GUD! I exclaimed this half way into my first bite. The ribs made me a fan, and the cake put T's over the top! Soft, moist, decadent. The cake had a hint of spice, and delicious, gooey apple topping thinly baked on top. Absolutely amazing!

Aside from the ribs, T's is known for their built-to-order double deckers and the jumbo cheese coneys for only $1.75. Wayne was cooking up the coneys for the other customers, and I saw him chopping an onion by hand. Now that's homemade fresh!

Wayne also mentioned the employees from the neighboring LaRosa's regularly order lunch from him. Next up, I can see him feeding folks from Montgomery Inn. T's is just that amazingly good.

T's Place is a perfect combination of sandwiches and soul food. Whether you're a regular diner or a new customer, Wayne will welcome you into his restaurant like an old friend. It's truly a neighborhood eatery at its finest.

Price per person: $1.75 - $8.00

This place is incredible. I'm driving with my daughter on Saturday and I see the word "Sandwiches" in a window. I've never heard of the place. I go in with my daughter. The man behind the counter is reading a devotional. I look at the menu. Various sandwiches but my daughter fixates on "Rib Sandwich". We order four of them (two for mother and little sister). The man takes the ribs out adn this is no McRib. This is something special. For one, it's about $7. For another, it's huge. For third, it's smells wonderful. For Fourth, it's tastes perfect. It's not sugary sweet. It's not sticky, sickly sweet. It's just good ribs with a big of flavorful sauce cooked low and slow. Why he calls it a sandwich I have no idea.

So I talked to the owner Wayne a little bit. T is his daughter who is serving in the Air Force. He spent a few decades in food service before opening his own place.

There's no place to sit. Everything is carry out but his kitchen is open air and spotless. The man is doing things right.

Oh, and did I mention that he bakes his own cakes. I bought a slice of chocolate and a slice of Apple Caramel. It's literally, possibly the best cake I've ever had. Flavorful and light and...and...just wonderful.

This is a place to support. Go there now. Go there hungry.
