Always have to stop by Tucker's for weekend breakfast. Try their specials, it makes makes them stand apart from all the rest.

This Tuckers is the other Tuckers. Not the home-grown well-known well-loved Tuckers in OtR on Vine. This is the other home-grown not-as-well-known not-as-well-loved Tuckers in OtR on 13th.

Still totally worth checking out though.

It's location on 13th may scare you, as might it's truly unfriendly outer walls (the windows are dark, the paint is sort of peeling, it just doesn't look that inviting.) Step in anyway, it's a quality greasy spoon.

The food is cheap and fast. You get your normal round of breakfast and lunch items, including some delicious sandwiches and burgers. Their grill feels like it hasn't been cleaned in years which makes all the food taste even better. Oh yes.

And did I mention you can get basically anything for under $5. Most of the time $3 and below. So damn cheap, so damn tasty.

There's nothing classy or chic about this place at all. It's a dive and, like the best dives, will get you in and out with your belly and your wallet still full. Take a deep breath and do something that scares you. Time to check this place out.

Nobody is going to Tucker's on 13th for the decor or the ambiance.

I think of that line from "It's a Wonderful Life" said by Nick the bartender in George Bailey's Bizzaro world:  "Hey look, mister - we serve hard drinks in here for men who want to get drunk fast, and we don't need any characters around to give the joint "atmosphere". Is that clear, or do I have to slip you my left for a convincer?"

Tucker's serves good food cheap for men (and women) who want to get fed so they can get back to work or life or whatever it is that you gotta go do.  And if you want to come in and be cute, don't be surprised if the guy cooking gets in your face - but he may not have to - the other customer just may.

All of which is to say: I love this place.  I can take one of the kids down for an early morning breakfast on a Saturday, drop $6 for two egg sandwiches and drinks and be fed and out in 15 minutes.

And these egg sandwiches are something you gotta try.  Cooked on an old (i.e. favorful) griddle and parked with sausage or bacon between two warmed up frozen waffles.  This was new to me and something wonderful.

Go try it if you have the guts.

Oh, and I don't know why the TV volume is set so loud but it is and I'm too afraid to ask them to turn it down.

At Kaldi's, this guy just started talking to my friend and I.  Graduated from our high school a few years before us, went into the military, got injured, came back to Cincinnati, cooks at Tucker's.  Tough story.  Told us we should go there some time, get some good greasy breakfast.  We told him sure, we'll go.  Just a few blocks that way.  Yeah, we'll go some day.  Breakfast.

We didn't really mean to and we never really understood where he meant, but I finally saw it en route to Findlay Market and made the connection.  So I stopped in.  The man, like all men of St Xavier, knew what he was talking about.  My six cheese omelet was a sumptuous plate of cholesterol-laden delight, paired with a side of beautifully crisped hash browns.

And for as fat as the food will get you (at lunch, too; the burger is a heavy half-pound but looked larger), it won't leave your wallet thin.  Great place with a real diner feel, including the obligatory excessive fat.

Don't be afraid to give Tucker's a try.  Its location in Over-The-Rhine may scare a lot of people off, but inside you'll find an incredibly friendly staff and clientele and some pretty good breakfast food. On top of that, most of the ingredients have just been freshly purchased at Findlay Market down the street, so you know it's good.
