For being a Gastro Pub this place is Amazing!
I happen to be sitting where I could see the kitchen and was very impressed with how quickly and professionally the chefs were working.
I asked if the seafood was fresh or frozen and the waiter guaranteed me it was fresh. He also said they have a very strict chef who will only use fresh non-frozen seafood. I was still a little leery as it is just a pub so we didn't expect too much. We were both blown away by how amazing the seared scallops I ordered were!!! They were the Best scallops I have ever eaten! I'm a total scallop tart as I love love love scallops and I still can't get over how great they were. This is a pub right? Too loud music and a million TV's but the food is 5 star for a pub and better than some 5 star professional restaurants I've visited.
I also ordered the truffle fries which are like crack they are so addicting. My friend ordered the chicken breast that was probably the juiciest chicken I've ever had and how they get it so I will never guess.
Again, this is a pub and not a elegant restaurant but the food is as good if not better than many elegant places I've eaten.
On top of the amazing food they have a list of 50 to 100 kinds of beer. I am not a beer person but they had a few sweeter beers that I did enjoy.
I don't believe the negative review about this place now and am very glad I ignored them.
We went to dinner here last Friday night with our kids. Â I was pleased to find that they have my favorite beer on tap, Bell's Two Hearted Ale. Â We had the salmon special (very good) Poutine, a burger, the Gnocchi and the Fried Shrimp. Â Even better then the food was the service. Â Colleen was excellent. Â Attentive, helpful knowledgable and very nice. Â She really made a good experience, a great one. Â Â
I have been in or associated with the restaurant business all my life so I know how difficult it is to run a good restaurant or bar business. Â So much of it comes down to the people you hire. Â My compliments on a great hire. Â
We will definitely be back. Â Nice addition to Wheaton's limited bar scene.
Great new option in Wheaton. We went for dinner and I had a soup and appetizer (the italian beef egg roll). My wife had a steak sandwich and son had a burger. The food was uniformly delicious. The house salad was terrific. Dark greens, fresh tomatoes, and an excellent dressing. (It was pre-dressed, but with a light vinaigrette. Great stuff.) The service was excellent. Very attentive. They bring a bottle of water for the table, but nevertheless our guy checked in on us plenty, was very quick, friendly. The ONLY drawback, from my perspective, was the noise. It's a loud place with a LOT of televisions. There's really no way to get a table where you won't see the televisions. But if you're looking for a fun, young, loud place with really above average food for this sort of place, you'll like Warren's Ale House.
Review Source:Warren's keeps improving. Â We were there for lunch today. Â We tried the pot roast sandwich with trepidation. Â It wasn't very good when we had it on opening day. Â Today the meat was moist, it had a little barbeque sauce on it and a slice of provolone. Â All in all a vast improvement over opening day. Â I tried a new beer today which I enjoyed. Â It came in yet another unique glass. Â I'm impressed.
To Jerry and Leticia: Keep up the good work.
The burgers here are so delicious! Â The wait staff is attentive and friendly, and our food was ready right away. My husband and I each had a bacon cheeseburger and almost gobbled it up immediately. The only downside to the burgers are that the juice from the patty meat often soaks the buns, so if you're not a quick eater, your bun will probably disintegrate before you're finished. The fries are delicious too; crispy with just the right amount of salt and seasoning. There are plenty of TV's with sports channels, so you can feel confident watching your favorite team play while you enjoy your food. We'll be back again when we're in the mood for another tasty burger & fries.
Review Source:We enjoyed dinner at Warren's Ale house. Our server- Nick- was very knowledgeable about the different beers. We enjoyed our dinners- Trout for me and Pot Roast sandwich for my husband. Nick surprised us with a raspberry brownie for our Anniversary- how awesome it was! Â
Although it is noisy in the restaurant/bar, it was not too loud to chat and enjoy our dinner. I am happy to have another great restaurant in South Wheaton!
Nice location, but it's a typical 'Sports Bar' trying to be partly restaurant. Very noisy, even in the restaurant area. Has no eye appeal, no decor just 4 tv's hanging in corners, no welcoming ambiance to relax and enjoy a meal. Menu is very small with strangely combined items. Â Fish toco's are not good and too $$ for what you receive as a dinner. Stick w/cheese burger. Wait staff we had was too attentive, strange!!
Place is OK as a bar, just don't go there expecting a quiet dinner. Â
Fine for under 40 crowd.
While Warren's was overall an enjoyable place to eat, it was definitely disappointing.
As for the good, stuff, first and foremost is the beer list. It's pretty extensive and contains a few nice treats beyond the craft beer mainstays. I treated myself to a Monk's Cafe Flemish Sour Ale that was beyond delicious and not something a lot of places will carry. Also, the service was friendly and attentive, if a little bit awkward.
The food, though, that's where the real disappointment sets in. The food was bland. It wasn't terrible, just, the opposite of remarkable. Even covered in chipotle sauce, the wings were largely flavorless and my cuban sandwich was unremarkable despite the supposed high quality of the ingredients it contained.
It's a young restaurant though, so I'm willing to give it another shot and see if it improves. As it stands now, it's mostly a half-way decent place that just doesn't live up to its promise or price.
I really enjoy Warrens. The atmosphere is relaxing and fun. The service is friendly and quick. I really appreciate how eager the servers and bartenders are to answer your questions and help you order...you can tell that they believe in the establishment they work for.
The food is very good. I love that they offer more choices than usual bars. The Italian eggrolls and soft pretzel are amazing appetizers. For entrees, the Ale house burger and grilled cheese are different than the norm and so delicious! The fish tacos are also very good, my favorite thus far.
You can tell it is a new place, but you can also tell that every employee from the owners to the servers work very hard to make customers have an enjoyable time.
I live about 30 minutes away but this place has been my go to place in the recent weeks.
Welcome Warren's Ale House! Wheaton needs places like this. The menu is just right, not too much not too little. (We might like to see a few more vegetarian selections on the menu but we are not complaining..yet :) Â Cubano sandwich with pork belly was amazing. Veal bratwursts.. juicy and delicious. Try the Bavarian pretzel with cheese and honey mustard sauces. Oh and they make poutine fries..bacon, cheese, mushroom gravy..MMMMMMM So good. They have an amazing beer list..that is the focus. The wine list is ok, they could tweak it with maybe less chardonnays and offer a few sauvigon blancs (New Zealand please) by the glass. Starborough and Kim Crawford are good ones. They have a full bar so if you crave a cocktail you will not be disappointed. The service is good and the staff friendly. I hope that this place does well and stays a long time. Parking is no problem. Hope Warren's Ale House does well and we look forward to coming back.
Review Source:We tried first to come here on a Friday evening around 6, and despite (because?) it being its first weekend open, they were jam-packed and we were in no mood for a 40 minute wait. So we left and decided to return another time.
Well, time two came, and it was much quieter on a Monday evening (although there were still some people in there).
The food menu is one page. The beer menu was about 10. That should tell you something. Still, we were there for dinner and were interested in the food -- it seems to be somewhat more sophisticated or unusual items than your standard fried bar fare.
Appetizer: We started with wings, chose the chipotle sauce. There were about 7-8 wings to the order and the sauce was good, had a nice smokey-sweet kick to it. The actual wings were a little disappointing, the skin was not crispy and the meat seemed a bit tough/overcooked. The ranch that accompanied it had a great flavor, but was very thin.
Entree: We both ordered the pork belly Cubano, which came with fries. The sandwich was great although not *quite* traditional; it was on a soft squishy bread-like roll and not grilled or pressed at all. The flavor was really good, though, nice tender pork belly, mustard, swiss and pickle. The fries were hand-cut and fresh but could've used another minute in the fryer for those crispy bits. That's just my preference, though.
Beer: I had a Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Ale; husband ordered a sour Flemish beer. My beer was delicious. The list is pretty solid, it changes a fair amount, and they have a server named Marty who clearly knew his stuff.
Overall, I was impressed enough that I'd come back, but given that it's not super-close to home, it would probably depend on where else my day took me. Still, a solid choice and a great addition to this very chain-heavy area.
We went to Warren's Ale House over the weekend. It's new, so I know they're still working out the kinks, but when we first got there, we were carded outside by a bouncer who didn't even greet us or say hello. He just said, "If you want a table there's over a 2 hour wait." He was incredibly unfriendly. I had posted a review on their facebook page but not surprisingly, they deleted it the next day. Guess what, they can't delete my Yelp review.
The bar is nice, but the rest of the place has no ambiance or character at all. It's very plain and unwelcoming. Bar service was slow too. They had 6 people making drinks which should have been plenty for that size bar. This is a very college-like bar, which seems out of place for Wheaton. We could see the manager, through the windows to the kitchen, drinking.
I can't vouch for the food. I wanted to order an appetizer but nothing on the menu looked even remotely appetizing. The appetizers were not your common bar options. I don't know if that's a good thing or not. I just wanted some chicken nachos. There was nothing that even came close to that.
The one good thing was the live music. The band was entertaining and there was no cover charge.
Due to Wheaton's awkward laws on bars, this is as close as you will get to having one within city limits. Â It's a bar that serves a few meal items so that it can be classified as a restaurant. Â Most of the space is taken by the bar area and the two seated areas have high tables or low benches.
The food menu is pretty sparse, the appetizer section rivals any other in terms of options, so it's clear why you are here: the beer. Â Although I don't drink, I was impressed with their selection, which comes in a separate printed handout, there had to be 60+ options.
The food itself is alright and decently priced (sandwiches). Proper entrees are a lot more and I would not be coming here to spend that kind of money.
Interior is loud and walls are plastered with televisions, so it's a good place to be during sports games. Â The service was fast and polite, no issues there.
I had been anxious to try Warren's as there are not any really good places to eat in the south Wheaton area. I have to say I was less than impressed. Other than TV's and a few pieces by the bathroom there are no decorations in the place at all. Blank walls and TV's are not my definition of gastropub. Think more typical Chicago burbs sports bar sans neon or sports memorabilia. Their beer list was better than most but their 24 drafts are really just the same 12 beers of handles repeated on the other side of the bar. Now onto the bartender who may have irritated to the point that I won't return. You know the type- loud, knows everything(even if he doesn't), calling people "chief & boss", generally obnoxious, irritating and is exactly the reason why I don't patronize so many bars in the Chicago burbs. I don't pretend to know everything about beer, but I know enough about what I like. I ordered a sour ale and was asked 3 times if I was sure that was what I wanted. "It's not sweet." "It's actually really sour." "Do you know what a sour ale is?" "Are you sure that is what you want?" My response should have been," shut up and pour me the beer, chief!" But I restrained, until now. Then he proceeds to argue with my friend that Dragon's Milk is a milk stout. A little beer knowledge does not make you an expert, have some humility. In my opinion, this is just another place jumping on the craft beer band wagon. Just because they have a few decent beers on tap doesn't mean they really know what they are doing.
As for the food, I had a corn chowder that was fair but nothing special and a bit bland. I also had the grilled cheese that sounded great, but again was lacking. Â Nothing in particular wrong with it, just lacking flavor. I had high expectations for Warren's that just weren't met. It's just another example of a mediocre suburban restaurant.
Saw Warren's when we were driving down the street last night so decided to stop in with my Family. When we entered I couldn't believe how much it has changed from the old red Robbin that was there. It was a bit crowded for a Thursday night but we were quickly seated. Being a big cheese fan we decided to start with the cheese plate. The cheese plate was very tasty. This is where one of my big pet peves happened. We had 3/4's of our cheese left and one of the wait staff comes by and asks if we are done with it. I'm going to grab a piece do you think I'm done with it. Drives me crazy!!!! For dinner I had the plan old cheese burger. The cheeseburger itself was dry and void of any real flavor. It also had the smallest piece of cheese on it I have ever seen. Really can you spare it. The fries however were great. I really enjoyed the fries. Over all Warren's has potential but the quality here is a bit off the mark.
Review Source:I'll be short and to the point. Â Very nice craft beer draft, cans and bottle list. Â We only ordered a few appetizers. Â They were all good, but nothing stood out as great. Â Menu is kind of small. Â The service was OK at best. Â It's brand new and is probably still working out the kinks. Â I will go back, but mostly for the beer.
Review Source:Went here today all by my lonesome, which I'm used to because of business travel. Â But, today I just needed to get out of the house and work somewhere else. Â So...off to Warren's with my laptop for a late lunch.
They seem to still be working out the kinks...and since they've only been open for 4 days it's understandable. Â The staff is very nice and accommodating, but it's obvious that it's still new to them. Â Had a good salad...the "Compost" which had a lot of veggies. Â And, of course, to get my muse on for the project I'm working on...a few beers from their large beer menu...an Alagash White and a Trumer Pils. Â Never had Trumer before and I recommend it if you, like me, tend to prefer wheat beers and stay away from the real hoppy choices.
But a few drinks in the afternoon kicked my butt...although I did make some progress on my work...now I need a nap.
This place has a lot of promise and I'm very excited to welcome them to Wheaton! Â Yay!!
so....being an ellyn's uber-regular since it's inception....i was a bit skeptical about how you could possibly top that experience?! Â however...after stopping in last night and spending a few hours at warren's....i see that it's really not about trying to one up ellyn's...it's a different experience.....
-really unique upscale menu....lots of interesting small plates...progressive takes on some traditional entrees and several classics...but also not overwhelming....and i noticed during the quick tour that the walk in freezer was empty...all fresh made to order.
-huge selection of craft beers on tap surrounded by a gorgeous (and extremely comfortable) bar.....they also have an ample wine list and distilled spirits which i tend to prefer ;)
-large open space, club like finishes...plenty of family dinner seating away from the bar and a really nice private room with projector and screen for corporate events or private parties.
-patio seating ! Â (not recommended for chicago winters, but will be rather enjoyable this summer)
-trademark professional service, very knowledgeable servers
-and yes.......plenty of HD awsomeness for sports...
great place.....upscale but not pretentious.....and no golden tee....for that...we go to ellyn's ;)
