Great place to watch a game.
    Great service and cheap burgers.

I came here with a couple friends for $1 Burger Monday. It was surprising that they check Ids, because the place isn't very bumpin' from what I could tell. Also, only one of the burger options are $1, all of the rest are the same price. Unfortunately, I am a pescetarian and don't eat beef, so I ordered the slightly more expensive veggie burger. The waitress seemed a little unfriendly and when we asked if they had a drink menu she said that they were mostly a beer place and they didn't have a list. One of my friends and I walked away from our booth to see what they had on tap and then had to wait for her to come back. When the food came the fries were decent, but I did not like the veggie burger at all. I relieved a strange flavored falafel with peppers that fell apart in the bun covered in garlic sauce. It was not what I was expecting at all, but I like falafel and gave it a chance. After two bites I felt really dizzy and nauseous. I don't know if it was one of the ingredients, but I had to leave. One of the people I was with said that she decided to try a bite of the veggie burger after I left and she said it crumbled under her fork and had an awful smell. I don't know if this evening was a fluke, but I definitely was not wowed by the experience. This place is neither upscale or a dive bar. There are much better places in Allston to find a good selection of cheap beers.

I used to think of The Avenue as kind of a joke when about 8-10 years ago it was primarily known to me as a dollar draft spot, but after my most recent meal its definitely one of my favorite places for a good cheaply priced greasy burger.

I got The Double Cry Baby which used to be known as Animalized before a west coast burger chain threatened to sue them. It was beautiful. It was greasy, juicy, and very filling. That with a side of Sweet Potato Tots, and a Slumbrew Porter Square Porter (which was on tap), and I'm stuffed. Price before tip came to $12.46

Also important to note that a Plain Jane Burger on Mondays, and after 10pm every other day of the week is $1.

    Definitely recommend this place.

$1 burgers? Tater tots? What's not to love? If I didn't surprisingly get my beer in a girlie cup I would give a 5

I've been to The Avenue twice in the past four days. My friend and I work nights, so we hit this place around 1:15 AM for some post-work beers and food. I had never been there before, but was immediately impressed by their extensive beer selection. I went with an old faithful (some Allagash White), which was delicious. You could tell they clean their tap lines really well.

We also ordered food, which the bartender told us took over 30 minutes to come out. My friend and I hadn't even noticed, but Good Guy Bartender comped our second round of drinks anyway. It took us a while to drink that round, because we were starving and basically stuffing our faces; Good Guy Bartender then let us stay after close and nurse our beers.

So, in short, fantastic beer selection, good cheap food, and a great staff - the trifecta of bar perfection. Oh! And apparently they have darts somewhere in the basement. We'll be checking that out the next time we go.

I was not happy when the "old" avenue closed down, and it took a while for the new one to grow on me, but they do have a solid beer menu and the food for the price is not bad either.  Unfortunately on our latest venture to the avenue, they pulled a switch with the liquor we ordered.  I know Jim Beam is not top shelf, but its what we like and what we wanted... they replaced it with a cheap well bourbon that was identified after the drinks went down.

I probably will go back eventually, but please don't treat your customers like they are idiots.  Some of us know better.  Not everyone is a college kid trying to get drunk.

Sad to see all the negative reviews here. This place is amazing. Service is always terrific, great selection of drafts, and the burger is one of the best I've ever had.

The Avenue is my go-to place--essentially the McLarens of my friendgroup.

Highlights include the Avenue burger, which is only a buck after 10, but I gladly pay $3.50 before that. IT TASTES JUST LIKE AN IN&OUT BURGER. As a SoCal kid, you gotta trust me on this. I get my fix here more than I should. Also, the wings are hella cheap, and three words: sweet potato tots.

They also have a SOLID beer list, and cheap too!!! The bar staff is always willing to serve you a sample or two if you want to explore a bit. I have discovered some delicious brews there. Overall, great low-key hangout place. Never disappoints.

The Avenue claims a soft spot in my heart. It's not glamorous; the food isn't exotic or spectacular; but given the respectable draft beer selection (that rotates to keep things interesting), and all the food specials, it's a very good bar.

This is, in my opinion, the best place to get wings in Boston. Hands down. I don't like the buffalo style, but for me it's really hard to please in that department. The other flavors are great; and they have cheap wing deals all the time. The fries and onion rings are sooo good.. And really cheap. Combine all of this with the many half price bar snack days, and you can feast like a king on a poor man's budget. Also the wait staff is really nice... But maybe that's because my friends and I have gone enough times that they recognize us...

I've started to come here once or twice a week and love it. They have specials after 10pm in which you can get a hamburger for a dollar. On certain nights they have half off appetizers so that's always a good combination of burgers and snacks. They have these amazing sweet potato tater tots, which if you eat alone... are wicked filling.
Their burgers are great, the buffalo burger being the best.
You do have to know the beer menu before you sit down, because it varies and it's written in chalk on the wall, but that's not a problem, as it's pretty easy to find.
They also have a jukebox that doesn't have that bad music on it. It's usually at a volume in which you can hear your friends talking at. They also have a lot of televisions with sports channels on, if that's important.

The Avenue's $1 burger special is pretty sweet. It's all day Mondays and also after 10 p.m. every day (you have to buy a drink - could be beer, coke, etc).

They also have a half-off appetizer deal and a cheap wings deal (on Tuesdays and Wednesday, I forget which is which night).  My friends said the wings are delicious.

The beer isn't the cheapest in town; mostly $5 or $6 and nothing cheaper. However, if you get a $1 burger, it's definitely a cheap meal.  They also don't limit you on the burgers; I've seen some guys get 2 or 3 at once.

Definitely somewhere I recommend if you like cheap food (cheap burgers) and a good selection of beer.

A group of my friends and I came here for their famous Avenue burgers on a Monday because they advertise it as Monday is $1 burger night! Now...here's the fine print...you HAVE to get a drink (whether it be a soda, tea, beer, liquor, etc) in order to get the $1 burger special...otherwise, it's the normal price of $3.50. Oh! and anything additional like cheese will cost you another buck. I came just for the company, so I just got a plate of fries to share with people. While the waitress was extremely accommodating to all of our needs and wants, I was a little disappointed by what came out. I mean I guess I was expecting a Uburger size burger, but when my friends' burgers came out, it looked puny like the McDonald's $1 menu burgers....

Wait a second. I can get a $1 burger in Allston? And WOW, it's amazing.
I was pretty surprised how good it was. I haven't had this good of a burger in a while. I ordered the Avenue burger and it was fantastic. It was so juicy and delicious. The entire burger is loaded with flavor, especially the special sauce. I can still taste the flavor after I eat it. I suggest you order two because they are small. The nacho's wern't anything great, but I had two Avenue burgers.
So I ordered a plate of nachos, a coke, and two fantastic burgers. That's what you call a great lunch.

Went here last night for some light night snacks and drinks with my boyfriend and roommate, and it was a Sunday night, so the place was not very busy. The burgers were much better than I expected for 1 dollar, and there are generous sides of fries for 1.50, or onion rings for 2.50. I also appreciated that they brought a giant bottle of sriracha to go on the fries. But two things about this visit made it really stand out to me:

    1. Dogfish Festina Peche on tap for 5$. I haven't seen this beer anywhere else, or tried it before but it is amazing, it almost tastes like lemonade.

    2. Awesome service: we were there after 1 am on a Sunday, so towards the end of the evening we were actually the last patrons in the bar. The staff continued to be so nice to us, and never rushed us out the door or made us feel like assholes for being there that I didn't even notice we were last until my boyfriend said something about it as we were leaving. Big kudos to all of them!

So, if you're in Allston, and you want a burger after 10pm, skip the feeding frenzy at McDonalds and come to the Avenue. It's cheaper, better, and they have booze.

Went to the Avenue the other day for the first time in years and was actually surprised of how decent it was (I thoughts TITS, Big City, and Sunset were the only average-good bars remaining in Allston). Draft beer selection is pretty solid and reasonably priced ($5 for most selections) and $3.50 for Bud Lattes.  Pretty solid.

I have to say that I cannot speak to the food since I have never eaten here but for $1 I'm guessing that the Avenue burger is probably a lot better than the burgers you can get at Mickey D's down the street.

I would probably give this place a 4 if they still had the giant beer towers they had a few years ago but the Fun Police has unfortunately made them illegal in the area. The Avenue doesn't try to be anything that it isn't (I'm looking at you Common Ground and Wonderbar) and for that I'd give it a positive review. Come in have a $1 burger and a couple of beers!

First off let me say....I LOVE the Avenue.

Me and my wife have been living across the street for almost 3 years now and we would consider this place our own. I went there on my wedding day for a shot with my groomsmen. I can't say enough good things. You need to go in the staff is incredibly friendly and for the price you can't beat the food. Did I mention they also have a great selection of draft beers that they regularly change and consistently have 3.50 Budlight.

We frequent the Avenue regularly, I primarily enjoy the Avenue on Sundays during the football season. I was discouraged to hear that they wouldn't be getting the NFL package this season.

    HOWEVER

I just found out today that they will be getting the NFL Sunday Ticket Package which is a huge relief and I'm so looking forward to watching as many games there this season as I can.

    See you at the Avenue!

This place is never really too busy, except on Mondays - but I like it. $1 burgers all day Monday and every day after 10:00 -- the dollar burgers (amazing) and cheap drinks are the reason why we frequent this place... but I've never been impressed with the service. My philosophy is that, if you're sitting at the bar, you should never have an empty glass -- the bartenders are never attentive, one in particular is almost always chatting it up with other employees - it's just annoying.

Then, last night, we went out to dinner and had leftovers sealed up in a brown bag -- the bouncers would not let us bring it in or keep it up at the door with them, but had no legitimate reason. Like? What are we going to do, eat it at the bar? We just wanted to have drinks after dinner but we were so turned off by the situation that we just left and went to the Sill instead. I wanted to be like, "and you wonder why this place is always dead."

Otherwise, can't really complain.  It's a very chill, lax place that's nice to hang out at and the prices are tough to beat - but they just need to step up their customer service.

In an expensive, overpriced metropolis like Boston, Massachusetts...I was able to find The Avenue. Dollar burger, a dollar and twenty-five cents for fries, and a Brooklyn Summer Ale all for a grand total of $8 with tip.

The burger was great! Albeit simple, but if you get two that's enough to hold you over for the rest of the day.

I think this special is only late nights and Mondays. This is definitely the best place I've been to in Allston/Boston for an affordable meal.

I remember the Ave's heyday (who doesn't?) -- dollar drafts, sticky floors, decent wings and terrible nachos, an oddball clientele of herds of brodudes and salty old regulars, and an assortment of probable health code violations. Like many Allstonites, I was bummed when the beer prices kept going up, and even more bummed when the White Horse (I think) bought it and classed it up a bit. I've only been a handful of times since its renaissance, mostly because I can pretty much throw things at the place from my apartment windows, but I went willingly to dollar burger night last night and was legitimately impressed.

The house/dollar burger comes with lettuce, tomato, and "secret sauce", which is some kind of mayo-based mystery condiment. It's good. I added guacamole and cheese for an additional buck apiece, but both were almost unnecessary because of the creamy sauce and grilled, buttered bun. (Pro tip, courtesy of our wonderful friendly waitress: raw onions and pickles are free!)

A side of fries is $1.50, and sweet potato tots are $2. The fries were surprisingly delicious - thick-cut, perfectly crispy, and sprinkled with coarse sea salt. The tots were also great - soft little pillows of sweet potato goodness with a crisp exterior, and some kind of spicy ketchup for dipping. Portions of both sides were huge (for the price). My boyfriend and I both expected the burgers to be smaller than they are -- with a side and a beer, one burger is a completely filling meal for a normal human. He got two and wasn't able to finish the tots, so that should tell you a couple things - 1. for one dollar, you get a normal-sized burger, not a slider, and 2. leftover sweet potato tots are a spectacular breakfast. Even on a non-dollar Monday, the burgers are all in the $3-5 range (with a variety of topping combos), and the rest of the food is similarly priced.

Given my proximity to the place and how pleasantly surprised I was with my burger experience, I'll absolutely be back to check out more of the menu and the super respectable craft beer offerings.

I may have been bummed to lose a trashy dollar beer joint so close to home, but the Ave hasn't gone downhill -- it's grown up. (And besides, the Silhouette is still around the corner and will probably survive nuclear holocaust.)

As usual, the Avenue delivers amazing bar food at dirt cheap prices.  The wings are great, not too much batter like some places.

If you like venison, I highly recommend the Elk Burger.  The Elk has a great flavor.  They grind their beef an elk fresh each day and you can really taste the quality.  I also love the sweet potato tots and the chili.  Let me add that I have had almost every item on the food menu and am never disappointed.

With dollar burgers on Monday nights, and 25 cent wing specials, its like you can't afford NOT  to eat here.

I came in for $1 burger Monday, and I have to admit that my expectations were pretty low. I should not have sold The Avenue short - those $1 burgers tasted like $6 burgers (at least)!

So it's a little misleading, because $1 is for your basic burger, and add one are another dollar each. But my server helped me work it, and I still got an amazing burger for like $4. Thanks to the large size and diverse tastes of my party (not to mention the frequency with which I've visited this establishment), i have been able to sample all of the sides. Sweet potato tots? Yes. Fried pickles. Double yes.

Add to that a ton of beers on tap, cheap prices on bottles... And you've got a great spot for some bar grub.

Long ago when I was a naive 22-year-old young professional, I lived in Allston and--this statement may shock some--I loved it. Loved it. (Oh, to be 22 years old again.) And I loved my go-to's: Deep Ellum, Our House, the Sil, Common Ground. I never, ever went to the Avenue because it looked cramped and dirty and filled with cheap, crappy dollar drafts.

My 22-year-old self wasn't that smart.

I visited the Avenue last month for a friend's birthday and wow. I can't believe I never went here. The Avenue has a great tap list. 30 taps. Priced cheaper than most craft beer bars. I didn't try any of the food, but I loved kicking back in the much-bigger-than-expected bar and enjoying all my favorite craft beers for less.

    Dear Avenue, I'll be back.

Bottom line: OK burgers, good prices, lots of drink options, and good service

I tried their Animalized Burger ($4) with sea-salt fries ($1.50). The burger was good, a little salty but good. It was prepared medium well even though they didn't ask me how I wanted it cooked. The burger came with cheese, caramelized onions, pickles, and some kind of thousand island big-mac sauce. I also detected some horseradish in there. The sea-salt fries did nothing for me. And, I'm fairly certain they used Kosher salt instead of sea salt but whatever. I wouldn't order them again. They were not fast with my food but I was impressed that they grind their own meat daily and my food was freshly prepared. Their menu is lean and mean. They just sell sandwiches, app's, and beers. And it's fine by me.

They also have many drinks on tap starting at $3.50 for a Coors Lite. Other drinks are $5, $6, and $8.

They have $1 burgers on Monday, 25 cent wings on Tuesday, and half-off apps on Wednesday...

UPDATE: I tried their dollar burgers -- only their two most basic burgers are a buck and cheese doubles the price. This time the meat was bland and too medium for me. Just remember to ask for the temperature you want.

There was a five year period where The Ave. was my spot.  My friends and I would come here two to three times a week.

The main attraction was the $1 draft beers.  It turns a $20 evening into quite the blur.  The food is surprisingly decent too... the appetizer sampler is great for all your favorite bar app needs.  The real diamond in the rough was the steak & cheese.  I suggest you order it with BBQ sauce and extra cheese, you won't regret it.

The staff is great as well... great sense of humor, laid back group that never let your glass go dry.

If I had a complaint about The Ave. it would have to be the calamari.  Yes yes... why would one order calamari in a bar like this?  Like I said above, there was a lot of blurry moments.

Applause for the $1 burger...  ground fresh daily, toasted bun, lettuce, tomato and sauce...

Good selection of $5 beers, some $6, usually a $3 special...

Looks beneath me - You gonna complain about a $1 burger?

    Srsly?

Don't be fooled by the exterior of the building.  Sure, this place is nestled amongst the college crowd, but there is a lot of potential here.  The neon bar signs and bright blue awning makes it stick out, but not necessarily in a great way.  (It looks like something straight out of the 80s, so I wasn't sure if I needed acid washed jeans, a perm, and a boombox with an Eddie Money cassette).  We came here to support two friends for their "Burger Meat-Up" in which we could sample burgers, drink a few beers, and hang out with friends.

The inside of the building is much bigger than what it looks on the outside.  The exposed brick and gastropup-looking bar gives it a more sophisticated look.  The beer is list is expansive and it's more than just your Bud and Natty Light lineup.  Lots of microbrews, too.

We sampled a few of the burgers.  The burgers were 4 oz. apiece and came on a toasted roll.  I thought they were great.  They are cooked quickly and they come out hot.  I prefer the little 4 oz. patties (think In-n-Out) over the monstrous ones like many other restaurants.  I tried the bacon cheeseburger and the animalized burger.  The special sauce served with the animalized burger wasn't memorable, but not bad.

We shared a basket of sweet potato tots and fries at our table.  I don't care if they are homemade or not, but they were cooked to perfection and not one fry was soggy.

I'll sum this review up with this last and final thought:  maple-bacon ketchup.  Yes, it's as good as it sounds.

Does $1 burgers on Mondays sound too good to be true?

Well, that's because it is. Never have I ever wanted to say, "No, it's cool- I'll pay more. Just make it taste like meat."

Seriously. Dry, overcooked "meat" with no flavor on a greasy bun with the saddest little sliver of lettuce you've ever seen, a limp tomato and "special sauce". For a $1 burger, I'd hate to find out what's in the special sauce.... **shudders**

But- HEY- it's a $1 burger, so I got what I paid for.

On with the less grizzle-y, the fries are only $1.50 and pretty good, run of the mill fries.

The beer list? The beer list is pretty, pretty, PRETTAAAY good. I'm talking Stone, Avery, Dogfish Head, Dark Horse, Pretty Things, etc- for $5-6. Really good beer. Really good prices.

Just don't pay more than $1 for a burger.

Sheesh, do you people want some cheese with your whine?  You're really shedding a tear for a place that had rancid draft beers and a trivia night that was written in five minutes?

The price points are in line with other Allston bars ($1-2 was a pipe dream that you all got to enjoy a lot longer than you should have), the burgers are still a great deal, and the employees are very nice and professional (and good friends.)

Fun is what you make it.  Dick's Last Resort is still in business if you want to visit a cheesy novelty bar.

I wouldn't give the new "Avenue" a star if I didn't have to... with nothing else to do on a Monday night my boyfriend and I decided to try out what was once our favorite place to go... little did we know. I only wish we had done what two patrons did upon seeing what had become and just left.

What was once a meeting point that all my friends could agree on, where we would gather for the home run derby, or the big game, or to just hang out eat some wings, drink some cheap beer, and have a laugh or two with the wait staff is all gone.

I use to walk in, have a quick conversation with the bouncer, say hello to my favorite bar tenders, and be on my way to a good time. A place I use to be able to walk into with sweatpants a t-shirt and maybe a hoodie if it was cold and just hang out.

Not tonight. I felt under-dressed. I felt like I wasn't allowed to have a good time. The air was stiff... and they made us have coasters under our drinks (whattt!?) (Not to mention that a PBR is now $3) I didn't feel like I could relax and hang out or even talk at a volume louder than soft. I was too scared to put my feet up and watch the sox. As soon as I ordered, I wanted to leave.

The light was dim... weird music... I couldn't hear the game... and all the great sports memorabilia is gone and replaced with painted bare brown walls and a red bar top. The games I never played but loved to watch people play are gone. No more buck hunter, no more bar top game, and no more watching people pay a lot of money to win taped up porn from the claw.

If I wanted the feeling of a "classy" bar I'd go downtown. This use to be the first stop of my birthday bar crawl through Allston/Brighton... Definitely not this year. If new management is going to take over and change everything that was great... then have the decency to change the name and not put any sourness on "The Avenue". You've taken a favorite from the locals.

Goodbye Avenue... you were great. you're staff was great... and I'm going to miss everything about it. Rest in Peace.

Ryan is right... the avenue as we all used to know it is dead.

As soon as I walked in and heard soft jazz playing out of the blown out audio equipment that I've listened to countless Patriots and Bruins games through, I knew it was long gone. $3 bud light drafts? No pitchers? Tiny burgers not served with fries? (I guess you need to itemize your orders now...) and where did the great staff that used to work here go?  And why are there only 4 TVs in the hole place?  And why are we listening to shitty ass John Mayer instead of Jerry Remy telling us why Dice K is melting down?

The Avenue has changed.  Everything that made it awesome is now gone.

I've been going here since 2003 back when they had $1 drafts, and I've stuck with them even when the dreaded $2 drafts hit (at least there were towers).  I've watched the sox and celtics win championships here.   I have a fantasy football league that was named after this place.

And now it's all gone.  If you want to go chat softly while sitting in the re-upholstered tall bar stools while listening to shitty music while paying too much for drinks in a dive bar that got a paint job, this is your place.

But if you want to drink lots of cheap beer with your buddies while watchiing Boston sports on a gazillion big screen TVs while surrounded by like wise sports fans, you need to look elsewhere....

My fiance started crying on the way home when she realized that an era had come and gone.  I'm now at home doing the same.  Maybe some beer will help ease the pain...  goodbye, old friend.

I've been here twice and the food is ok - your typical bar food.  Though on Sundays they have $.35 wings, which are pretty good - my friend and I ordered 12 wings and entrees, after eating 6 I was already full. Haha, I guess my appetite is getting smaller.  I've ordered the steak sandwich and a burger both were good.  I do like the fact they have cheese fries. YUM.

It's your typical sports bar with tvs all around and arcade type games.

They also have drink specials, but I'm not sure of what they are.

Anyway, ok place for drinks and bar food.

This is the type of bar that you don't want to pick up your future spouse at, because it probably means they are cheap and slightly unsanitary, albeit easy to please.

They now have $1.50 drafts which doesn't have the same ring to it, but there is a variety of choices at this price point so that's not too bad. $3 shots are delicious and dangerous, but only if it's the kamikazes. Do not - I repeat - DO NOT go for the red-headed sluts, they are nauseating at best.

Clearly the Avenue is not a high-falutin' drinking establishment, it doesn't even have a dive bar atmosphere to it.  The patrons are popped collar yah doods straight from BC looking for a chick to bang. One time I was here and I saw a guy wearing a white t-shirt with the sleeves ripped off to show his tattoo down his bicep reading "BRO". I wish I was kidding.

This will never be my first choice when going out, but the price is right and I can usually convince The Supreme Lord of the Televisions to flip on the baseball game of my choice, so it's not the worst thing that could happen to my weekend.

If The Ave had kept the dollar beers, they would have made me think twice about giving them another star. Having bumped bud and bud light up to $1.50 (still not bad), I can't pretend that this bar is any more than a dive.

I've had the wings. they're fine and you can get them for 25 cents from 5-7 during the week. Not a bad little happy hour for cheap. Also a good place to pre-game and get ready to upgrade to a better bar as your main destination.

Know that this place closes at 1, so many of the last-callers wind up going down the street to Our House or around the corner to Wonder Bar, depending on the scene they're looking for.

Also, there is a $15 minimum on cards, so get ready to crush some beers if you start a tab. Oh and it's virtually impossible to pick girls up here. It's a long narrow corridor and usually a sausage fest. I could see watching a game here or taking advantage of the deals, but that's about it.

This is my go to bar for drink or food.  Both are great!  You can't beat the dollar drafts or the 30 cent chicken wings (all day sun, 4-7 any other day)!  Sure it's a little grimy in there, but that's how you know people go there and DRINK!  ...they should do something about the back room walls though; it looks like a waxy ear canal!

I give this a three star just because of $1 drafts, it's not really a good all night bar. The music gets way too loud for the space, they play music like it's a dance club, but there's certainly no room to dance. I actually never got why they have a DJ, no one dances and people are they for the cheap beer.

All that aside though, it's fun to go here with a group of friends and have a cheap night out.

Me being the pretentious jerk that I am....I apologize for some of the comments I am about to make with regard to the atmosphere of this place.

Just a blocks walk from the Harvard Ave. stop off the B Line, I wound up here for St.Patricks day on account of the $1 drafts. I despise Budweiser in all forms, but on a holiday when beer is due to be consumed in large quantities, I simply cannot afford to over indulge on the higher quality brews I've come to adore.  Our waitress Andrea, was awesome. Beers came quick, and we got free kamakaze shots for being such pleasant, fun people to serve. A+ for service. They ran out of green coloring, so the green beer eventually ran dry. Sad, but true. You wouldn't believe how quickly this girl was able to bring rounds of 10 beers to our table. Phenom.

The atmosphere here isn't really my bag. It's mostly big screen tv's and swamp donkeys. If you're not familiar with the term swamp donkey, see half the male population of the tri-county area surrounding Boston as a reference. Sorry guys, the whole arguing over the Red Sox with your friend Murph and talking about fixing up your '87 camaro is kind of a turn off.  *Refer to above disclaimer about me being a jerk.

The appetizer sampler = top notch. We had 3. Case & Point.

$1 beers meets the worst atmosphere and crowd in the world. What will win out?

    The $1 beers, of course.

The Avenue is a great place to be in the middle of the day when it's empty. On a crowded Friday evening, I don't think that FREE beer would make it worthwhile.

    Look !!
the people that go here don't go for ambiance ....they are here for 99 cents drafts.  Basically, you get what you pay for!!!! It may not be my cup of tea but I have my days when my wallet sends me here for a cheap meal and drink.

I repeat : I  do not go here to see or be seen or for that great 'customer service' but for cheap eats and drinks and maybe to watch a game.

I love cheap beer. I'd almost say I love it more than the woman who tore my heart out and destroyed my naivete, innocence and optimistic world view, the family that disowned me, the college I went to four years that taught me to hate pointless sports affiliations, the God I never found-

But The Avenue really drains me. Its a wood paneled rectangular place with a small square dining room attached to the front with one half of the perimeter of the dining area glass to see the T go by.

The crowd just blows (a combo of college kids, college grads who miss hanging out with college kids, sports loving people who never went to college, maybe a few decent older couples or guys), the bar tenders are unfriendly and uninterested in you unless you got a cute face and some nice "titays", the waitress are quite nice though.

The cover is usually low if existent (3-5 dollars) and all bud products really are just one single dollar (making up for the cover quickly).

The food is the standard sports bar fare.

The bathroom is a single lockable door so if your friends drag you there and your into illicit drug use to alleviate social situations that dont fit into you own paradigm I guess you have that option.

Although, if you get there early in the day and just want to pre-game for a few, go for it. But it does start filling up in the afternoons..

Its also rather small, so when it is packed, its really packed. My rule of thumb is if you cant find a stool at the bar, you've showed up too late.
