Alwadi on 4835 n. kedzie in the plaza next to chase bank and I think a middle eastern sweets place.
old man & younger guy that work there are not friendly at all.
Food took long to prepare even though it was almost empty inside the place. Their rice is bland & overcooked, meats too burnt, tables wobble, men's washroom smells like stale urine, and the mediocre food wasn't that cheap, they cost more than dawali & pita inn which have better quality food and way better customer service. I guess this place would be good if in a 3rd world country but we're in the USA and this place won't last w/ this type of service & quality. I'll say it again, this place sucks ass! truly disappointing experience
We order the Fata and combination plate. They brought complimentary falafel ball which were wonderful with the tahini sauce, a small hummus plate and our dishes. The meat was spiced right and moist. the rice was flavorful and plentiful. Â The fata which has cripsy pita bits in a warm hummus sauce is very yummy. Â We are planning on going back.
Review Source:There are better places to go down the street for some good middle eastern food.
The rice was bland, the hummus was bland, the falafel was ok. Â You can do better than go to this place. Â I liked the chicken shawerma and the chicken and steak on the combination plate and everything else was just average.
We were the only people in the place, but still had some trouble waiving down the server. Â The cook was kind enough to make a fresh batch of a sauce that they did not have already made, which was really nice.
I am not sure I would go back again, just because there are other places that are much better down the street.
I think service brings this place to 4 stars... otherwise i have no complaint about my experience at Baladna... People who are running this joint are former Salaam peeps, so you know you will get some decent food here. Â We ordered 2 combination platters and ended up eating only one, and taking the other home because the portions are HUGE! The other platter ended up being my lunch the next day, YUM!!!!!!!!
Definitely very neighborhood down to earth joint with some good food, big portions and great price!
This restaurant is tucked away in strip mall. Probably not a place to take a date to, but if you want a generous portion of middle eastern goodies then this is the place. I stopped by for lunch and ordered the meat combination platter. The kifta was tender and juicy and the shish kabob was also quite tasty. The schwerma - perfectly spiced lamb shaved right of the rotating grill thingy- is the best I have had in Chicago. A generous portion of tasty olives, pickled radish, pita bread , rice and creamy hummus comes with the order. All of this for about $10. Â I ordered a couple of falafel, which were also tasty but not as memorable as the meat. My waitress was an approachable and accomodating Bulgarian woman who offered me a minty tea on the house.
