Baxter Station now doing breakfast!!! Â Tuesday-Friday at 7am, Saturday at 8am and Sunday 9am-3pm. I've added a photo of their breakfast menu and what my wife and I had for breakfast this Sunday morning!! Â Yummy!!! Â Note for those Louisville Original Card holders Tuesday through Friday in March you will get double points during breakfast!!!
Review Source:Went for the draft beer selection which is excellent! Great German draft beer. Love their mussels appetizer!! I ate as my meal & it was plenty. They serve it with pretzel bread topped with some garlic butter sauce. The server dropped my original and brought plain pretzel bread which was much better. Next time I will ask for plain pretzel bread. Husband got fish sandwich which was not good...
Review Source:I'm lost: Â Â Â Â Â why on God's green earth would any one with a brain think this is a good place for eating? Â The flies alone should drive you out! Â I'm not a fan of tacky decor, but the food can and should overcome that. Â The service should be awesome as well. In this case, on a Sat night, early for dinner my date and I had high expectations. We ended the evening with NEVER AGAIN!
Shall I discuss the flies? Â Apologies all around from the servers, who seem to hear this complaint often. Â The back room is more shack like, slapped together as if the owners found the material in dumps, over a period of several years. Â They forgot to find a way to keep it clean though. Â Did I mention the files???
Forget ordering the Fajita Burritos, since the chef (they have one?) forgot to use fresh ingredients! Gosh, that chicken has been sitting out for how long?? I left mine on the plate. My date couldn't even finish his Creole Bouillabaisse, partly because of THE FLIES. Â HELLO! Â He did get ill...as a matter of fact, the next day. Â So it could have been the meal he ate......or the flies on his food.
Never again.
Baxter Station has always been a favorite Louisville Original restaurant of mine and, in fact, was always my "stand by" restaurant when I needed somewhere unique with good food to go to for a special occasion. Â However, my last two visits to this restaurant have been extremely disappointing and I am considering not going back in the future. Â With this past visit on Saturday evening, the food was decent but every worker we encountered was rude and unfriendly. Â The restaurant was also fairly empty considering it was a Saturday evening at 7:30 or 8pm. Â I ordered my standard beer selection (a dark beer) and something was not right about it. Â I even had my dinner company taste and look at the beer for a second opinion. Â I asked the waitress (Jaime) about it and she took it away. Â She came back and rudely told me "the bartender said there was nothing wrong with your beer". Â She never really asked me if I would like something else instead or apologize at all. Â When my main course came out, I started to eat and then noticed that there was a spider hanging out on the outside plate and my food had just been delivered to the table. Â I didn't even tell the waitress about this considering my previous treatment over the beer until after we got our check (it was mentioned in passing). Â She pretty much ignored the issue. Â Jaime never smiled at us and acted as if waiting on our table of 2 was an inconvenience to her. Â Another party of 3 or 4 people came in and sat behind us. Â After they ordered, Jaime turned around and rolled her eyes at the party. Â While the service was prompt, it makes a lot of difference to customers if they receive FRIENDLY service as well. Â My previous experience a few months ago was very similar in that there was unfriendly service and the food was mediocre at best on both occasions. Â At this previous visit, they acted like my Louisville Original points and card was also an inconvenience. Â I am a big supporter of Louisville establishments, so this treatment is a definite turn off for me.
Review Source:I've been to Baxter Station a few times over the years and have (historically) liked their food. Perhaps I've only ordered burgers or pasta and have been a few drinks deep... but this final time was a flop.
The calamari is well below average (see picture), the quesadilla of the day was ok at best (seriously who has a quesadilla of the day?). I also had a Cobb salad and the Bourbon Salmon. The salmon started off promising - first couple bites were good, but quickly dried up and lost flavor. The sides of green beans and rice were boring at best.... but at least fresh. The Cobb salad was strange - the dressing was a tasteless green homemade sauce - not sure what the attempt was.
Aside from that the staff is great and it looked like the burger and grilled cheese were winners...
Baxter Station has long been one of my favorite "go to" spots, especially for lunch. Â Their daily "blue plate specials" are the greatest - delicious food in abundance at affordable prices. Â The patio is fun, winter or summer - enclosed in bad weather and open to the fresh air in good. Â The servers are eclectic, approachable and knowledgeable. Â Brutus salad is a good twist on the traditional Caesar's salad and the Moroccan mushroom soup is a good vegan option.
Review Source:I took some friends from out of town to Baxter Station on Saturday Night. The food as always was wonderful. The service was horrible. Not our waiter, he was great. But the greeter at the door needs to be fired. She put us on the list and said it would be about 30 minutes. After about 15 minutes, another group of the same size (4) came in. She clearly knew them, greeted them by name. Then right in front of me she put their names above ours on the list. When she called their name before us, we told her that we were there before them . She quickly got their silverware, Said "oh really? Sorry." and quickly left the room. I was ready to walk out, but oped that maybe she would be embarrassed by her lie and give us a good table. Unfortunately we ended up sitting in the bar crowded in with other people. Â Thanks to her that will be my last visit to Baxter Station.
Review Source:Baxter Station Bar and Grill is the perfect spot for a quick, not too fancy bite to eat. Â The food is good, the service is ok and the atmosphere is fine. Â There is nothing about this place that really jumps out at me as being wonderful or awful. Â It is just your average middle of the road food joint.
I would recommend the fried chicken, though. Â It is quite yummy. Â A word to the wise though, bring a jacket and a flashlight if you are going to sit in the back room. Â It is a little drafty and somewhat dark back.
There is no reason I would not go back to Baxter Station, but I am not dying to return.
Trains trains trains. Not going to lie, definitely came here to get my stamp on the Urban Bourbon Trail.
Sat in comfy booth-like chairs. The decor in the front didn't seem to match the decor in the back.
Tasty food.
(I had fried green tomatoes and delicious beef ribs.)
Sort of annoying to find without my trusty GPS.
Yay for beef.
I've been wanting to check out Baxter Station for a while - I've heard good things about their food and bourbon flights. Â On my way in, I saw they got a "B" from the city. Â Hmmmm...
Came for lunch yesterday, and had a pretty good time. Â I got to try the bison sliders, homemade potato chips, chicken wings, and cajun linguine. Â I think the sliders were the best of the bunch by far. Â There are several other things on the menu that caught my eye, so I don't think I'll mind coming back when I want to mix it up a bit.
They have great beer on draught, as well as a nice wine list and a very fully stocked bar. Â Service was friendly and it was COLD inside, which means it'll be the perfect summer chill out place. Â :)
Having just moved back to Louisville from Atlanta, I am still amazed at all the great restaurants here. Â
Checked out Baxter Station and was really impressed. Â Every dish has a different "twist" to it, even if a standard! Â Great prices, top notch service and really relaxed atmosphere! Â
Pork chop dish was excellent and the appetizer with the pretzel "loaf", was fantastic! Â
I will be checking it out again soon I am sure!
p.s. check out the train that runs around the ceiling from room to room! Â Very fun! : )
On a snowy night my husband and I ventured in here since we live just around the block and didn't want to brave the elements to drive anywhere. We sat out on the heated patio, which was very cozy and had a great ambiance. It seems like a good date spot. I'd also like to see what it's like in summer.
The beer, wine, and bourbon lists are impressive. I like that they had the wines sorted by characteristics such a sweet, dry, etc.
We shared the Moroccan Mushroom soup which was amazing. I had some pasta thing and he had a burger, they were both great.
Also the service was wonderful. A+ will come again.
I must admit, I have a beer more often than I dine here, but when I do eat, the food is always far better than average bar and grill fare. The  quality and presentation is consistently good and the service is always fantastic.
They have an extensive draft beer selection offering 24 taps of great American Craft Beers balanced by a mix of imports and, of course, a few mass-produced lagers. I like the draft line-up and really enjoy the classic Anchor Steam Beer (rarely found on tap anymore) and the regional craft selections from Great Lakes, Bells, Three Floyds, New Albanian and, of course, Falls City Beer. As a local beer advocate, I must say I'd like to see more from Bluegrass Brewing Company, Cumberland Brews and Browning's, but us critics are so hard to please. Â ;)

They also have one of the top Bourbon selections in the city and are part of the Urban Bourbon Trail.

Baxter Station is also known as the birthplace of the Louisville Originals.

Be sure and pick up a Louisville Originals card while you're there. They'll explain how it works.
Check it out. You won't be disappointed.
Baxter Station is a nice little place to relax and have a decent meal. The service is usually quick and decent. Nothing over the top, but nothing memorable. The beer list is good, and the bourbon list is GREAT.
I'm partial to their barbeque sandwich. The mashed potatoes are good, in my opinion, but for those who do not like sour cream... they may not be for you.
I've had some of their pasta and was not impressed, the pasta seemed frozen and the sauce was nothing to come back for.
It is tucked into the Irish Hill neighborhood, which is convenient for me because I live in that neighborhood. They offer takeout and get a great deal of locals. There is an overflow seating area in the back that tends to get a little to hot in the winter (at least I feel so) and a little too cool in the summer.
Stick to the barbeque. And the bourbon. Especially the bourbon.
MR says...
MRS says... no offense but i was not swept off my feet. our check was for $64.91 and i did not even enjoy the meal.
curiosity made us come here. anyway, we literally thought this place was an old train station where railroad tracks would be obvious. i thought the inside or outside of the bar and grill would look like one of those train cars... NOT!
but for BEER lovers, this maybe be a great place to unwind, relax and drink BEER.
we ordered:
crab cakes - two small patties fried. taste ok.
veggie ratatouille - presentation was fabulous. looks to me it was a roasted yellow squash that was hollowed and used as a container for the rest of the vegetables. it was refreshing and with the marinara sauce it sure taste like veggie spaghetti
cajun linguini - creamy and spicy. sausage was a bit spicy but good.
italian cream cake - made in house, taste like one of those soda bread
pint of dinkel acker - we tried a pint of dinkel acker. by the time the server brought the glass of beer, we were already done with our meal waiting to get  dessert. i had a little sip and so with MR. can't say much because to me all beers taste the same. sorry purely non-alcoholic person.
