I just got back from lunch at the Biltmore and was quite disappointed with the food. we ordered fried pickles that turned out to be a mix of fried pickles  and fried peppers. There was nothing on the menu that said anything about fried peppers which none of us liked. Then I got the Fried Green Tomato salad listed under salads on the lunch menu. I was surprised when it arrived as there were only TWO slices of tomato on the plate (one red tomato slice and one fried green tomato slice). The salad was $10 which makes these 2 tomato slices the most expensive I have ever seen. I had to go and get actual lunch after my "lunch" as that salad was barely an appetizer. The 2 stars are for good service and the other food that looked good. Just don't order that Fried Green Tomato salad if you are looking for a meal.

Went here for lunch w/a colleague and it was great.  The food was really good and creative.  Will be back again.

Great service for our fairly larger table.  I got a turkey burger with cheese added, with choice of side (mixed greens salad...which was slightly lacking a bit on the dressing...wish I got the tomato basil soup or fries instead)...it was missing the cheese in the first try, but came back with a great blanket of meaty cheddar.   Also not so great was the imitation soda...get iced tea instead.  Nice casual pub vibe and fairly spacious with a good amount of parking available.  I was there for lunch with colleagues so I didn't get to try the drinks, but it looked like a place that would know their beer and cocktails.

    Beer & Cocktails - AMAZING! (5 stars)
Food - It's good, just wish the menu was more balanced.
Service - Rockstars!  They always remember us and offer a genuine smile.

Overall, the bar is what stands out.  The food is good and I wouldn't be upset if forced to eat here, but the food alone is not what makes me come back.

Also, they usually have live music on the weekends.

Just stopped by the Biltmore again today to have a late breakfast / early lunch on the way to do some shopping at "you Do it" electronics - a gem in itself.    Adela got the Benedict, very good, sauce was light, with not too much lemon, and the home fries were almost like toasted potato croutons.  I got the grilled iceberg salad wedge, and it was served with a couple slices of pork belly "bacon".  A drizzle of Lemon on the top really made the dish alive, one of the best I've had.    So, why only three stars?  It's popular with the child set, and having little kids yelling across the restaurant take away from the great food.

Please do the neighborhood a favor and bring the old pub fries back (various cheeses, egg over-easy, bacon and gravy). The "new" pub fries taste and look like something you'd get at Applebee's.. melted cheap cheddar and a few bits of bacon. I hope the new fries aren't representative of the rest of the new menu...

But really, stay away from the pub fries... until they restore the old menu's version. Or just make them at home with a bag of frozen Orita waffle fries and a bag of cheddar.

Having been to the Biltmore for cocktails, I was disappointed with Sunday Brunch today.  I brought my college aged son and his friend.  It's a busy place.  We opted to sit at a table in the bar.

Our waitress was very nice but the food was lacking.  My eggs Benedict and side of bacon arrived at room temperature.  My home fries were warm.  My son and his friend got the burger and fries.  The fries were hot...and limp.  The burger had a bitter flavored lettuce on it but once stripped of the extras, the burger was tasty.  My son ordered a milkshake.  For $5.00, we expected a full sized glass full.  It was a little more than a juice glass.  Again, underwhelming.

We ventured into dessert - who could resist Fried Fluffernutter???  It was interesting, more than we expected, however, the ice cream sundae we had ordered was totally melted by the time it reached the table.  I think the kitchen is having timing issues....

Will I return?  Not for brunch.  I'll stick to drinking at the Biltmore.

Cool little spot, very unassuming - you'd drive right by if you didn't know better.  Brunch menu is solid (chicken & waffles!!), and draft selection is very strong.  I'll be back for sure.

While I found the food and service to be excellent, I do believe that this restaurant is a little over-priced.  My friends and I had the mac & cheese fritters and waffle fries for appetizers (both dishes were amazing).  I ordered the Chicken & Waffles.  The combination of salty and sweet flavors in this dish was really cool, and I really appreciated the fact that the chicken was crispy-fried, but NOT greasy.  The dish was tasty and very filling, but I don't think that chicken & waffles should cost $16.50.  My friends ordered the pork shoulder sandwich, which looked good, and cost $11.  So, overall, this is a solid place, but over-priced.

My husband and I went here early on a Saturday evening and sat at one of the high tables at the window in the front bar area.
Our waitress was great. Super nice and very helpful. I had a pear martini thing that rocked. Looked like they had a good beer selection which my husband was happy about. We shared the fried mac n' cheese app, a burger, and a side of cauliflower. The app was delish. The burger was perfectly cooked and came with a side of the most tasty chipotle dipping sauce. Good gravy that stuff was awesome. The side of cauliflower was cooked great.
Loved it here and we will be back for sure either with our kids, or friends or hopefully on another date night!

Solid. Really solid. And, a great staff of very friendly folks.

I am in Newton all the time and I come to the Biltmore often. Why - when Boston has so many great places to dine? Well, simply because of the exceptionally friendly service. I will frequent any establishment over and over that puts a heavy premium on service.

Please, don't get me wrong - the food is really good as well. I love their French Fries and the Brussel sprouts with chorizo are great. I also love the bistro burger. Okay - here it is . . . The food is not great, but the people are absolutely stellar.

So far, my favorite place in Newton. Tasty bar food. There's nothing super special about the burger, but it is cooked very well and tastes delicious. Great beer selection and they seem to always have Founder's Breakfast Stout on draft, which makes me happy. Their fish & chips was a little too heavy.

The pub fries are delicious, but they are an instant heart attack and your innards will hate you. Resist and get the mac & cheese fritters instead.

I came back with my boyfriend and his friend after work.  We sat at the bar which was crowded.  This definitely must be a place where all the local people go after work!  It was very loud in this room.  It was even hard to hear each other talking even though I was sitting in the middle!  My boyfriend and his friend both ordered a beer that was on draught and said that it didn't taste right/bad beer tap.  The beers were quickly replaced when they mentioned it to the bartender.  Upon the recommendation of my boyfriend's friend I got the chicken and waffles ($17).  I loved the honey butter that came with it!  The fried chicken and waffles were very delicious!  I would definitely recommend this dish although I still think the food is a little pricey.

Enjoyed NYE at The Biltmore with a large group of friends, and let me say, I've been here once before as well. I really do like this place a lot. Great vibe, bar, menu, location and more. Great craft beer choices!

The prix fix menu was excellent, and they were quite open that we could order certain other items typically found on their menu, which was a good option.

Food was excellent (fried chicken and waffles, sweet butter and hot sauce), and our waitress was nice, very friendly and helpful.

It wasn't very busy there this NYE, but the waitstaff seemed to have trouble at times keeping up (at least with our group of 7). I got the feeling it wasn't on the waitress but perhaps they needed one more person helping them this night.

A couple things were slow to our table, but splitting hairs I guess. Food was great, staff was friendly. Had an awesome night.

You should try it if you've never been!

I love this place. Shannon, Brian and Dina. Those three are the best. Always there with a smile and good conversation. They make the rest a hood place to go. The food is quite good I recommend the biltmore burger with the egg.  Atmosphere and music always good live music nights are great.

Went here for  brunch - we both  had the chicken and waffles and a mimosa.  To say that both were excellent would be an understatement.  The chicken was crispy on the outside and moist in the inside drizzled with a sweet sauce on top of waffles coated with honey butter and maple syrup. It was sublime.
The mimosa was similarly perfect - obviously freshly squeezed OJ finished off with some pomegranates - it was perfect.
Service was attentive without being overbearing, music was very cool and overall the vibe of this place was ultra cool without the pretentiousness.
    I would definitely return.

The place has charm and history, which goes a long way.  Menu is creative and generally well executed.  Lost a point for burger roll completely falling apart on not only my burger, but my friend's burger tonight.  Also the specialty drink was mostly ice.  Also the bar was so loud you had to yell over the TV's and other patrons to speak to someone right next to you.  Generally good experience and I do plan on coming back - perhaps sit in the dining room instead of the bar area.

I cannot believe that other's people's experiences have been so bad to deserve one star, but I have always had a great time when going to the Biltmore. They always have a great selection of beer and a great seasonal menu. But the most notable thing about this establishment is their great beer dinners. Every month they have a five course meal that has each course paired with a beer from a particular brewer. My wife and I have been to 3 of these and they are fantastic.

If you are looking for a place with a great selection of beers (many of which are on tap), a different and tasteful look on food, and a great atmosphere this is the bar for you. If you enjoy miller lite, bud light limes, and Sweet Caroline's is your type of bar look elsewhere.

I really liked this place when it was first opened under the crew that eventually left to open The Gallows. It took a sharp nosedive after that. Based on a recent visit, it looks like it has gotten much better, going in more of a gastro-pub direction. It turned out to be a very cozy, noisy place to take in a Pats game, with much better beer and food than most casual, pub-type places in Newton.

Brian is the best. The "hot sauce box" rocks. Oysters and oyster shooters, and fun little bar snacks. Great atmosphere, tunes, people, food, and most importantly: beer. Love it here.

I was looking for a Pub with a good bar and some TV to catch up on the days news. So I wasn't expecting outstanding food, but figured they would have a wide variety of Beers, which they do if you are into micro-brews.  The food was very good and I had to have the fried chicken and waffles. The chicken was OK. The waffles, special butter and syrup were outstanding! If I come back to the area I'd like to try brunch.

This is an older, less lit establishment, but the bar was cool and I found the waitstaff to be friendly and efficient. I liked the decorations and old stuff.

I would come back and it would be a good spot to enjoy a new, local beer.

I have every reason to want to like this place and rave about it. Right next door to my favorite barber. A menu that shows imagination. A great beer list. I've come here before and enjoyed it, but I  no longer live near here, so after running an errand in Needham, I looked forward to coming back here and trying something new... the charcuterie plate, perhaps?
It wasn't meant to be. Monday night, 8:30. The place is quiet. The waitress seated us in a highly conspicuous spot right in the front window, got our drinks, and then proceeded to ignore us for 25 minutes. She must have walked past us 20 times. She bussed the tables in the vicinity like there was money buried under the plates. She re-stocked the wait station. She walked back and forth with glasses for some reason. She talked to co-workers. We made extreme eye contact multiple times and she ignored us. So we never got to order food. At a certain point it was insulting, so we left enough to cover our drinks and bolted. It was a very weird experience.

Biltmore owners, spend some time observing your wait staff.

Went here for 1st time tonight, nice location, nice environment, good beers/food, typical cool bar. Unfortunately I give it 3 stars instead of 4 and write this review simply due to the rip off of their Pulled Pork Sliders -

My father and I sat at the bar and split a few things, not apps, but "Bar Food" I forget their word, but the basic stuff. Their "Pulled Pork Sliders" were $4.99, nice, but what we got were 2 sliders....the bun was not even the size of the palm of my hand, and they were literally served with around .5 oz of meat per slider, unbelievable. I was gonna say something but I usually am an easy customer since having worked in a restaurant myself = dealing w miserable people....all in all The Biltmore, I enjoy your establishment, beers and food, but to pay $4.99 for 2 pulled pork sliders that combine to 1.5 oz of food is a joke and you should be ashamed for that specific item but again I enjoy your establishment as a whole.

Went back to Biltmore last night for a low-key birthday dinner. They did NOT have a pork chop of the moment, which I was so excited to experience for my second time. Nothing else on the menu seemed exciting or down my alley, so we settled for the Biltmore Burgers and a half dozen oysters to start. We also shared the fish taco appetizer. They were very bland and the tortillas were mushy.

The service was also so much better last time. The server was emotionless and inattentive. When I asked her what the special was, all she said was "blue marlin." No elaboration past that. So... just a fish comes on a plate? At one point, we were talking and she just walked away. Whether she heard us, I'm not sure, but she was obviously not focused on what we needed.

The best part of my night was the cute and friendly bartender who made me my gin martini, while I waited for my friend to arrive.

Life is too short to eat mediocre food. I was not impressed for my second round at Biltmore.

I brought my brother here for his birthday brunch. I took him there as they had fantastic reviews for bloody Mary's. When we asked the waitress she told us the bloody Mary was pre mixed.

The waitress was very slow with our order and not very helpful. For example, I ordered coffee and she didn't bring me milk or sugar. By the time it was brought to my table, the coffee was no longer hot.

I was really excited for their sweet potato home fries as I love sweet potatoes and home fries. Unfortunately, the home fries were cold and had the consistency of a baked sweet potato. Not my thing.

Overall, poor experience. The food, drink and service was not good. I will not return. Hope this review saves others the time and money.

This restaurant is a great local place to get together with friends. They have a wide variety of beers on tap, including beers you can't find at other local bars. The food is okay depending on what you order, although it can be very pricey.  They do usually offer "bar snacks" at a cheap price.

One night I ordered a chicken wing appetizer that was "unclipped organic" for $9.99 and they brought out three chicken wings. I refused it! Burgers will run from $12 to $15 and entrees $14 to $20. The waffle fries are wicked tasty.

At night the bar area can get very crowded and it can be hard to find a place to stand or sit. If there is live music expect even more of a crowd and thus less space. Sometimes you are literally in the way of the waiters and have to constantly move. Overall, an okay local spot that can be crowded and the clientele is definitely an older crowd.

Super good and super cool pub in Newton Upper Falls. I've been 4 times for eats and drinks and Biltmore doesn't disappoint. The interior and atmosphere echos the speak easy past; the tin ceiling is killer and decorations feature faux and real antique signs and other fixtures (like a phone booth). The Biltmore is definitely one of the hippest places in Newton and is open late.

It has a lively but not annoyingly crowded bar scene. I think it's a great place to hang with friends and chat or watch a game (this is not a sports bar, so if you want many huge TVs, look elsewhere. It is very adequate for causal watching and saw the Bruins win the Stanley Cup here).

Excellent for brunch or dinner. Awesome beer selection that changes with the seasons and whims of the beer gods. The menu gracefully blends gastro pub fare (Short ribs, Bison Burger, Oysters) and comfort food (Chicken and Waffles, Fried Pickles). Potato chips instead of bread. The value is tremendous. My wife and I are wondering why we don't come more often. Duh! I wish I could walk here so I could consume all the goodness and stumble home.

I've had great customer service there every time. I love the sample of beer before ordering, thank you very much kind waitress.

Parking is limited in this little section of Upper Falls and there ain't much else around. But this is a must visit place of Newton.

Eh, dialing my review down again...to 1...Don't plan on going back there.

This place needs to get its crap together.

Food has taken a turn for the worse.  They ditched the free potato chips (probably the only thing that has been consistently good) and entrees use out of season items and are poorly prepared.  On my last visit, uncooked and unseasoned "chickpea salad" (aka chickpeas from a can) was the last straw.  Oh and your uncooked kale salad sucked too (at least trim the stalks...).

Whoever works in the kitchen here should go to cooking school or watch some Food Network or something.  The food stinks and there seems to be almost no respect for food (see my prior review about serving my kids sour milk). Getting served one of your stupidly massive plates with a huge chip in it tells me that whoever is busing plates could care less either.

Same for the beer.  Fine, you pour beer in Biltmore branded snifter glasses.  A snifter is NOT meant to be filled 1 inch from the top.  Can't you just get some pint glasses?

And I'm sorry, but our waitress (who really likes to comment on the male to female ratios at her tables by saying "Ladies and gent" or "Lady and gents") was annoying and had nothing to say about either the broken plate or the fact that we only ate about half of anything that came to our table.

and pub fries smothered with cheese!!

    and roasted duck grilled cheese!!

    and oysters!!

Holy moly moth@#$%$@@#in shit. I'd be surprised if my face doesn't just blow up into a giant, greasy pimple tomorrow morning. But you know what?

It's worth every succulent, juicy, tender bit of that fried chicken that is bursting with flavor.
On top of a wonderfully crispy and fluffy waffle.
Served with a beautiful maple syrup-infused butter.

Oh man. Too yummy for words.

My husband and I go here almost once a week at night for a beer a snack and to catch up on the day. I love coming here and sitting at the bar, its very laid back and the staff are quick to come over and greet you. I love the beer selection here and I love that there is usually always something new to try.

The chicken and waffles are TO DIE FOR!!! I am obsessed with this dish. We will often get this or a cheese selection or truffle fries. The servers and food are consistently great

I had dinner here with my family for a birthday and really liked it.  Casual quiet atmosphere great for a get together.  We had dinner there on a weekday so it was not overly busy.

The beer selection was excellent and the food was also great.  Their pub fries are amazing (waffle fries with cheese, gravy, bacon and a fried egg on top).  Also had the fried pickles which were good.  My main dish was the fried chicken and waffles after which I was stuffed to the point of explosion.  Eclectic menu was fun and all enjoyed their meals.

Very large portions.  Prices were reasonable.

A lot of the negative reviews on here focus on spotty service or inconsistent food, of which the latter I can attest.

The beer list is decent for Newton and the menu boasts some impressive-sounding dishes. The atmosphere is very cozy/dark gastropub a la Publick House and the clientele is what you'd expect for the area.

They only had 2 bartenders working a full bar on a Friday night so it took quite a while to get another drink but the bartenders were fine. Not overly pleasant but not snippy like some of the other reviews mention.

It took us a solid 55-60 minutes to get a table when the wait was supposedly 30 but we got seats at the bar so no worries. And we found parking in the back, so that was also a bonus.

The food ranged from awesome (the loaded fries are insanely good) to poorly executed (my burger had a stale bun and was overcooked, well past medium on a mid-rare order). In fact most people at our table said the appetizers were good-to-great and the entrees were lacking. Our friends have been here multiple times and mostly echo this sentiment: good apps, hit-or-miss entrees.

I'd definitely come back as there aren't a ton of awesome, upscale bars in the area but I'd probably not stay for dinner.

I cannot get enough of this place.

There is nothing bad about it, except that I wish it opened earlier on Saturdays.  Also, the portions are so large that I feel like I am eating from a trough or a giant's stolen dishes.  While this is the kind of problem I love to have, it also means I can't get the delicious desserts without throwing up to make room first.

Crazy delicious pub fries - probably my favorite fries that don't have truffle oil on them.
Chicken and waffles - incredibly moist chicken that doesn't get dry the farther in you go.  The waffle is fluffy but with a good density.  Pair these together with a bit of hot sauce on the chicken and syrup on the waffle - you will close your eyes and need a moment to process the deliciousness,
Pigs in a blanket - pancakes, sausage, syrup, memories of childhood...what's not to love?

They also have a decent burger and a good beer selection.  The Bloody Mary had a good flavour to it but I did not care for the onion.

Prices are comparable to other gastro-pubs and I probably would pay more.  There is parking close by and a good number of tables inside, so that should limit waiting.  It's worth it anyway.

Much like Columbus discovered America, I have discovered The Biltmore. Sure, there may have been other people there already when I discovered it, but that is of little import.

    Pros:
-Super friendly service and professional waitstatff
-The food! The bluefish tacos are fresh, light and amazing. The smoked salmon is cut into lusciously fat slabs of loxy goodness.
-The beer list is extensive and well-curated. I have been drinking Pretty Things Quad. Beer Advocate gives it a B+ and I give it an A+! Yum. I like beers that you can actually taste, and the higher alcohol content just makes me a cheaper date.
-You can pay with LevelUp. I downloaded the app. in the restaurant and saved $9 that day. An app. so new and exciting that I have been voluntarily picking up all the tabs.
    -Parking lot

Cons: A little short on lower calorie and vegetarian items.

We have been going a lot, and it's a welcomed change to our typical neighborhood selections.

The Biltmore is an interesting place, a marriage between blue and white collar preferences. Perhaps in a nod to their schizophrenic palate, mismatched tables and chairs comprise the seating areas. There are $20 menu items punctuated with words like "organic" and "accoutrement" and there are bottles of Schlitz on the beer list. Various obscure beer cans fill the windows.

Personally, I like it. The sandwich I had was tasty, the service was friendly and there was a Buck Hunter machine which is good for at least half a star. Although the moderate prices don't correlate to the spectrum of sophistication in the menu, you're bound to find something you like. Chicken with waffles, ribs, sandwiches, burgers, salads, cheese plates...you can't go wrong. The drink menu is equally diverse with offerings like Chimay, Duvel, BBC and Cisco being rounded out with PBR, Sol and the traditional American crap beers.

In an age when it is en vogue to wash down your charcuterie with a 'Gansett, the Biltmore hits the mark.

How can you not love this place? Great beer / wine / cocktail selection, wonderful talent behind the bar, and delicious, interesting food that's locally sourced which means you're not eating factory farmed meats and you get to feel good about yourself. Sure, doing the right thing always costs a little more...

The Nicoise salad with smoked salmon is a favorite. Yesterday's lunch was lentil spinach soup and hog wings with a couple PBR's. Fantastic!

    Props to Nicola. Whoa.

NOTE: The following review was written before the owner fired everyone that made this place great (chef, FoH manager). I haven't been back since, so caveat emptor.

An ancient neighborhood dive remade into a handsome gastropub, a casual joint with way-above-average food and above-average bartending.

The chef puts something to induce sighs of contentment on every plate here. Portions are bounteous, even in bar snacks like Bacon and Eggs, two deviled eggs with three thick slabs of "bacon": house-cured, unsmoked, slow-roasted pork belly, phenomenally rich, crispy yet tender. Ale-steamed mussels are two-dozen plump specimens in fine broth with garlic toasts for mopping. Bourbon-glazed meatloaf is excellent, but the tawny, commercial-tasting gravy is weak. The ploughman's plate is a meal-sized appetizer with terrific house-cured duck prosciutto and more of that "bacon", chicken-liver pate, poached pears, aged Cheddar, outstanding pickles, and excellent bread. Cowboy steak is a perfectly-grilled, high-quality ribeye with a rich red-wine sauce and horseradish mashed potatoes, a steal.

The bartender's artistry is evident in drinks like the Bourbon Smash, an Old-Fashioned/mojito hybrid with muddled mint, and the Potomac Wave, essentially a superlative, luxury-grade "up" Margarita. There are also interesting draft beers and a short, modest wine list.

Service works as a tag team that meshes flawlessly, beguiling us with their menu knowledge, humor, and vivacity. The loudish space, for years a seedy dump overdue for exactly this kind of makeover,  has been simply but beautifully redone with dark wood, vintage-repro lighting fixtures, pressed-tin ceilings, and two TVs. The breezy vibe and mellow reggae soundtrack befit the neighborly mix of solo diners at the ample bar and families, older couples, and 20-something partyers in the spacious booths.

This was one of my favorite finds of early 2007,  a captivating combination of handcrafted comfort food, great potables, enthusiastic service, inviting atmosphere, and homely value. It's a one of my favorite kinds of restaurants, worth mentioning in the same breath as places like the Franklin Cafe, Silvertone, and Audubon Circle.

The only thing that might make me happier about it would be closer proximity to the city instead of its location in remote Newton Upper Falls -- or at least closer to a T stop: the nearest one is a good 15 minute walk away.

I am so excited that this place is so close to my home.  It is nicely decorated and the staff is super friendly.  I loved that the beer taps were even classy looking.  I sat at the bar, but the high top tables in the bar area seemed cool.  The place was about half full and I think for a Tuesday night that's pretty good.  The burger was delicious although a little undercooked for my liking.  I asked for medium and got mid-rare.  not a big deal to me or a deal breaker by any means.  The buffalo tenders were super hot, as I like em.
A great little restaurant in a cute little area of town.
