Blues Cafe is a monthly Saturday night dance, and I do my best not to miss it.

    First, the venue:
Springstep is a gorgeous, modern building.  Dancing in a space with air conditioning is always *much* more comfortable.  The floor is also just right for dancing; not too sticky, not too slippery.  Finally, there's a kitchen, which means there's always at the very least cookies and coffee to be had.

    Second, the music:
Blues Cafe has the highest quality swing, blues and soul music going.  They get both the best bands and DJs in the area.  Recently, one night was even a live album recording!

    Third, the dancers:
Sine it's a monthly dance with good music in a good venue, lots of the best dancers in the area make it out to Blues Cafe.  Which doesn't mean you need to be a pro to come by any means.  There's always a beginner lesson and everyone tends to be very friendly and happy to dance with someone they haven't met before.

    Good floor. Good atmosphere.
Bad that it is running only once a month, not week.
    Hope it runs more often.

Easily my most favorite Saturday night of the month!
Gorgeous modern dance space...that with the trick of some tastefully placed lighting, tablecloths, talented musicians and djs, and a gussied up crowd turns into a fresh take on a retro supper club. A free lesson, 3 hours of a fast wood floor, fun peeps....and homemade cookies!!! How do you say no to that?

You haven't been yet? OMG go...go go go!
Get your bluesey swingin' dancin' self on!

One of Boston's best dance venues, despite the somewhat tricky-to-reach location.

For the past year, Blues Cafe has been consistently raising the bar on Saturday night entertainment. Based out of Springstep in Medford, MA, Blues Cafe offers monthly dances to swing, blues, and soul music. Each dance is preceded by a free beginner lesson, and almost every dance has some kind of performance associated with it. Roughly sixty percent of the dances are done to live bands.

    Pros:
    1. No partner required for the lesson or dance
    2. Very beginner-friendly atmosphere
    3. Outstanding interior with a sprung dance floor
    4. Great music across the board, regardless of what your tastes are.
    5. Performances, jams, and overall great dancing
    6. Cookies, coffee, and various snacks provided free of charge
    7. An overall classy vibe

    Cons:
    1. Can be tricky to get to and from by public transport
    2. Occasionally on the expensive side.

If you get the opportunity to attend a dance at Blues Cafe, don't pass it up. You will be glad you went.

Awesome dance location.  Bad actual physical location.

    Good floors.  Great heat/ventilation control.

Varies from "very fun" to "sucks so hard" depending on the music choosen for the night.  If "Alex" is on the DJ roster, then don't go.

Great dance venue (spacious, air-conditioned, great floor, near highway and buses).  Fun variety for swing dancers, as it is only about half swing, mixed in with blues and other styles, depending on the bands (which are also good).  Friendly crowd, usually gender balanced, and comfortable range of dress (casual to fancy).  Probably most common age group is 30s (a little younger than many swing dances), but dancers range from 18 to 70-something.  I've been swing dancing for a while, at many different venues, and definitely recommend this one.

This is a great place for swing and blues dancing!  You don't need a partner, there are plenty of friendly dancers that are willing to dance with newcomers.  There is a lesson before the dance if you are new to swing or if you want a refresher.

I've attended this dance at least a half dozen times and have never been disappointed.

The bands are hot!  The dance floor is large and perfect - no spilled beer here!  The dancers are amazing.  They include instructors on their night out and many other regulars who have been perfecting their moves for years.  But don't be intimidated, new dancers are warmly welcomed.  Feel free to ask people to dance, believe it or not quite a few of them are shy!

Remember to bring your dance shoes.

Blues Cafe is a monthly swing dance, and it's the best dance in town!  Liz Miller runs it, and she takes care of every detail.  There is always a great band, free snacks, mood lighting, tables with tablecloths and little lamps and lampshades -- and that's not to mention the gorgeous huge dance floor.  Liz knows everybody, so you'll also find the best dancers and the nicest beginners, who come from all over for this idyllic dance scene.

Blues Cafe happens on the third Friday of each month from 9-12:30. Don't miss it!
