I went here the other day for lunch with a few coworkers of mine and we all ordered "The Nooner" which is an individually sized pizza with one topping (extras for .89) and your choice of either a house or Caesar salad.
I have to say I'm pretty picky when it comes to pizza considering as a Columbusite for the last near-12 years of my life, I've grown accustomed to higher standards (i.e. HoundDog's and Mikey's)...but, I must admit this pizza was really good. I liked the crust a lot. Maybe it was the perfect texture of crispy and soft on the inside? Who knows...but either way, the price was good too.
I'll definitely be back again for lunch. With their outdoor patio I will look to not only get my pizza on but my OMG-I'm-so-white-I-need-help tan on.
Alright Food
I have been to Boston's 3 times. Â the best time was when it was not crowded, the worst was over The Arnold weekend when it was super packed. Â the food is tasty from the appetizers to the pizza to some of the other entrees. Â There are plenty other pizza places or signature entree places I would take over Boston's but its menu variety is good for groups with diverse tastes. Â the staff is good and pleasant.
Underwhelming to say the least. Went in after a concert and ordered 2 pizzas that friends and I shared. There is absolutely nothing special about this "gormet" pizza. It is no better than pizza hut or any other delivery pizza. Skip Bostons and either go somewhere else, or just have pizza delivered.
Review Source:Great location, good pizza, decent service. There's nothing spectacular about this place but there's nothing terribly wrong here either.
The location is ideal for catching a quick bite before or after a hockey/baseball game or having a quick beer before seeing a show. There are better pizza places and sports bars in town but this is a decent combination of the two.
If you like Pizza Hut, and don't mind spending a few dollars more for basically the same pizza but with enhanced ambiance and location, then you'll love Boston's. Â Otherwise you'll be underwhelmed.
(The service was also quite inattentive the one time I was here, but that may have been aberration.)
A good place to relax and have some beverages before a concert, or Clippers or Blue Jackets game. The food is...mediocre, but the drinks are strong and there's a good patio with some decent people watching up Nationwide Blvd. I'd get there early if you plans later in the evening - every time I've gone, it takes a wee bit too long to get my drinks, dinner or check and I'm often running out quickly to get to my show/game on time!
Review Source:Spare you time and money.  Service is inattentive, waitresses  on the rude side, just not worth it. Â
Main dish and salad came to the table at the same, when asked if she could take the main dish back (due to space constraints) the eye rolled. Â Later (about twenty min later) on when she noticed that I was done with my salad she brought me the same main dish... Yup cold and basically greasy and tasting less then horrible. Â To say the least this one was for the books of real bad lunch. Â Save you money and go else where.
Let's not forget... No refine for the group .... Six of us; nice ha
I've been here a few times and have seen some of the poor service others talk about. Â However, today that was not the case. Â I sat a the bar with a friend and our service from Jess was perfect.
I ordered a Pizza this time (a twist for me) and it was great. Â I wish I could rate Bostons higher but I have to compare the food and service to the price. Â For a 10' pizza and Pepsi, I was out $17.80 plus tip. Â The pizza was great, Jess was great, but that probably should'nt have cost me about $15 tops.
been there twice, both visits were great. The Sweet Thai Chili wing starters were great! Very unique, with excellent balance and flavor. I would go back just because of them! We also thought their Extreme Mushroom pizza was awesome! No other pizza place in the city makes pie like they do. Highly recommended. But just an observation...this place has a big bar, and gets rather noisy in the evening/night, so if youre looking for a romantic dinner, be advised.
Review Source:Ordered a spinach candied pecan salad. It was awesome. I recreated it at home and it was almost as divine. Went back to Boston's a week later and ordered the spinach candied pecan salad. The salad came but the pecans were not candied. Note, the candied part is a super key ingredient to the YUM factor for this salad. I asked the waitress if she could bring me some candied pecans and instead of going back to the kitchen to get the pecans, she went to the hosted desk where her and two of her fellow workers looked up the salad and had a good laugh. She returned without going to the kitchen, and told me they were out of candied pecans.
Note: I can make candied pecans in like 5 minutes at home. (butter sugar pecans heated up until it glazes)
The manager strolled by and I asked her why the waitress would come up to the hosted stand, and look through the menu and laugh about not having a key ingredient to their menu item. By the way, this "manager" was one of the girls giggling with my waitress. The manager informed me that they do not carry candied pecans nor have they ever carried them. Really? I was here last week and you had them. They are in the TITLE of the spinach salad on your menu. This angered me to no end. I hate being lied to and made to feel like some sort of fool.
I normally eat at Boston's a few times a month. Now because of this I will not step foot inside this restaurant. There are FAR better meals to be had than Bostons. Their pizza is gourmet if you have never tried anything but Jeno's frozen.
Boston's is a solid three star joint. Â It caters to those who want to catch a game. Â It's loud like a sports bar, has a ton of tvs, and the bar area is quite large. Â There's an outdoor area also which would be nice in good weather.
The pizza is nothing special. Â What it does have going for it is that it's not overly greasy and the sauce is good. Â Beyond that, it's not much different than a Pizza Hut or Domino's. Â I had a Hawaiian pizza and it was really bland. Â I could taste the sauce but that was pretty much it. Â My husband was able to get a pizza with gluten free crust so that was nice but he said his pizza was also bland. Â
The service was fine...straight and to the point. Â Not too friendly but they were busy. Â I wanted a beer and they asked if I wanted a pint or tall. Â For the record, tall is 32 oz. Â I had no idea "tall" meant 2 pints. Â They should really mention that when they ask if you want a tall.
Giant beers and really good pizza. Mike and I decided to see if we could procure tickets to the Jackets/Bruins jackets on Saturday. We were shocked to see the crowd as from recent shots of the arena attendance you could shoot a gun and not hit anyone. Guess winning fixes a few things. Anywho..we wondered into Boston's for the first time and scored a spot along the bar wall. some nice guys sitting at the bar helped us get the bartenders attention. Tons of tvs!
once we got closer to the game time crowd thinned and we took a seat at the bar and ordered the Italian pizza. peppori, sausage, onion, yellow peppers, was very good. nice crust.
Service at the bar was weird. the 3 folks behind the bar did a phenomenal job keeping it clean and clearing glasses but would it kill you to look up at your customer? every time they took a mug or glass you would think you would get asked if you want another. Time after time this happened to us or others around us. It was almost like they were making money on how many glasses they could clear and clean in an hour.
Have yet to be really impressed by any place right by the stadium but would be willing to give Boston's another shot.
***One of Columbus's Best Kept Secrets*** Whenever I am in Columbus's famed Arena District I make sure to stop into Boston's. While it gets busy on the weekends (especially if there is an event at Nationwide Arena), I prefer to hit this gourmet pizza spot for lunch. They have a lunch special called the "Nooner" that consists of a side salad, beverage, and a (rather large) personal sized pizza for only $5.00! Come in and grab a seat at the bar, watch some Sports Center, and grab a Nooner, just like all the young professionals buzzing around the Arena District! "
Review Source:We really enjoy Boston's for a casual place to hang out and enjoy drinks, pizza, and appetizers. Â There is a happy hour, which includes a discount on the very tasty collection of appetizers - a few that our crowd has enjoyed include the Chips & Queso with Spicy Chicken, the Boston's Nachos, and the Boston's Cheese Fries.
There is a nice selection of "Masterpiece" pizzas, and we have enjoyed all the ones we have tried, including the Florentine, the Venetian, and the Double Meat & Peppers. Â By far, our favorite, and the one we frequently return to, is the Sicilian. Â The blend of meats and veggies is delicious, and the addition of fresh chopped tomatoes and basil after the bake really adds great flavor. Â Another recent find is the Italian, yum.
In addition to the regular crust, there are also whole wheat and gluten free crust options. Â The gluten free crust is a thin crust that comes out a bit crispy. Â It has a nice flavor and holds up to all of the toppings quite well.
Walking distance from the Marriott and just a sidewalk away from the Clipper Stadium, this place is a great place to grab a few drinks and some pizza after watching a baseball game! Â Last time I was at this location there were 2 areas within, the pub tables and chairs situated around the bar where there are large flat screens throughout and also a back room area where there are booths and less noise.
Pizza was pretty good, we had a create your own meatlover's flatbread pizza, a Margherita, and a Spicy Chicken Pesto!
For a "gourmet pizza place", they sure do have some mediocre pie. Â I just didn't like their pizza, it was very average to me. Â The true knock was their appetizers. Â I went with a group of people, so we ordered a little bit of everything. Â Straight from the freezer bag to the fryer type of fair, and not that good. Â They did have big 32 oz beers, and I can see the appeal of going here before a Blue Jackets game, I just didn't care for the food.
Review Source:I finally have found it !!!!!
After attending the Columbus Bluejackets games and being disappointed in the selection of pre-game locations for a quick bite to eat and drinks, I finally was able to try Boston's. Â Â Â
I knew Boston's existed, but because of time constraints, I was never able to make it there before it got packed. Â This time I beat the crowd. Â Our group was seated and we ordered our pizza and a pitcher of beer. Â Â
Cold Miller Lite & hot pizza, what a great combo before a hockey game !!!
Our pizza was hot and not overly greasy, had a great blend of flavors among it. Â Â We stayed seated, had a good time, and finished off a few drinks. Â Â I suggest staying at your table, the bar area does get very crowded and hard to navigate. Â
There is a good mix of people who were there as well, mid-20's, families, to folks in their 40's to 50's. Â Best of all, everyone was there to just have a good time before the game. Â Â
So let's see, we have good food, cold beer, good times with friends, what else is missing???? Â Oh yeah, the cost....out group of 4 was able to walk out the door with tip, pizza, and beer all for around $30. Â Â
Boston's will be my new Bluejackets hangout.
Had an interesting experience in here yesterday. Strolled in around 11:15 a.m. with two co-workers and had our pick of seats, so sat at the bar (this place is always absolutely dead at 11:15, but somehow every seat in the joint ends up being filled by 11:45) and the bartender immediately proceeded to give us her opinion on the news stories of the day:
-She was amazed that the Mexican police recently seized and burned 140 tons of marijuana ("It's a damn shame! If only I could have just walked by where they burning. Can you say contact buzz?") Also humorous was that another Boston's employee walked by and confirmed that the story was indeed a "damn shame."
-The world is "going to hell" because of the French riots. "I mean, they just raised the retirement age, no big deal! Come to America where when we retire, our Social Security benefits won't be worth shit!"
Um. Can a brotha just order a mug of frosty Miller Lite and a pizza? I'm all for political debate, but c'maaaaan man.
After we ordered, the bartender hung around (since there were no other patrons at the bar yet) and launched into a discussion of Halloween costumes. Her friend was going as Snooki, which she thought was a joke because her friend is "6 feet tall and skinny as a rail" and Snooki is "short and fat." My eyes sort of glazed over at this point and I awkwardly messed with my phone to make it look like I was busy, and left my co-workers to fend for themselves. I think she finally got the hint and, thankfully, the bar started to eventually fill up.
This interesting situation aside, Boston's is pretty much standard for what it is - mass-produced, fast casual, safe fare for suburbanites. The pizza is pretty decent (I usually go with the Hawaiian) and there are several "specialties" from which to choose, such as Ultimate Pepperoni, Mama Meata, and Buffalo Chicken. You can also, of course, load up on your own choice of toppings. They have a nice selection of other items like ribs, wings, sandwiches, salads, and entrees such as lasagna and other pastas. Lunch specials are also available and are quite reasonable.
Beer selection is acceptable, and their 32-ounce mug is pretty awesome and extremely frosty (there are usually little bits of ice in the beer, which I love). TVs are numerous in the bar area and they also have daily drink specials such as $3 margaritas and $3 Three Olives bombs.
I highly doubt you will ever be blown away by your experience here, but it's a safe option when you just wanna drink some beers and watch a game, or meet someone before or after a sporting event. Plus, if you're desperately lonely, you always have "stimulating" conversation with the bartender to keep you entertained.
The best miller lite ever!!!! Thats about all that I feel this place has going for it.
Diet Pepsi: $2.12, My mushroom swiss burger (asked for medium) came out well done. It also came with tomatoes, lettuce, and mayo already on the bun. If I'm not mistaken, I think is a no no for this type of burger or at least they should've had it on the side?. I substituted fries for 'red roasted potatoes' and it was more like mashed au gratin-ish thing. I'd give two stars, but if burgers don't come out right--I get a little stingy on my stars.
Kudos to the owners, management, and staff at Boston's for being the first restaurant to not only survive in this great space at 191 W. Nationwide, but to turn it into a thriving and diverse stop for lunch, after-work drinks, pregame food, or a reasonable dinner.
The success is not merely luck. To begin, for the price point the food is consistent and good. If anyone is qualified to make that statement, it is yours truly, who works on the 3rd floor of the same building and probably grabs a bite at Boston's two or three times a week!
As far as atmosphere, while I am young, this place is as close to a modern-day "Cheers" as I can imagine. I am probably on a first-name basis with at least 1/3 of the staff. When I want a chill social experience, Boston's is an easy and frequent selection.
Check it out!
This was a pretty good place! Â They have a fair amount on tap in terms of beer selection, and it is a great place to go before a hockey game or event at the arena.
The Tuscan pizza is pretty darn good, and the chicken parm also looked good (I didn't have it but someone at my table did). Â Between two people, we barely finished a small - it is about 10". Â That should give you an idea of how much it is.
Wait staff is great - a person at my table didn't like the beer and he asked if he could get another one because he really didn't like it. Â They said no problem, switched it out and didn't charge him a dime for the one he didn't like. Â Extra bonus - the waitress did separate checks. Â Rock on. Â
Overall, a good sports bar to check out!!
Fiona and I when to Boston's for a late dinner this evening after a bad experience at Yellow Brick.
This place has a sports bar mentality, so it is a little loud and a little less organized. Â But the food is really good, especially the Florentine pizza. Â The beer is cold and the wait staff is fairly good. Â I haven't had really bad service there yet.
I'm a nice girl. And I'll give you the benefit of the doubt. But this place went strike 1-2-3 with me right away.
Strike 1. Attitude.
If you work in the service industry and esp if you make tips...check the attitude in the car. Our server was rude and slow and not friendly at all! Look. I'm not trying to make friends with you but if you want 20%+ act like it.
Strike 2. Beverages.
After finally getting my mixed drink I thought Ahhhhhhhhhh! finally...(sip) UGH!! It literally tasted like flat soda water. All 3 of us at the table look at each other and ask REALLY?! So we switched to beer after the watered down tasting beverages were sent back.
This is when I feared my food would be sabotaged...
And Strike 3: Accessories/and again service...
So we get our pizza. ok. Without plates, napkins or silverware. COME ON PEOPLE! So one of the girls walks up to the main bar right next to us to just ask the bartender for silverware and napkins. Then we watch her get ignored. Obviously.
And that solidified my attitude on this one...sorry but until you give your servers an attitude adjustment I'd rather try somewhere else.
It's funny, because the parent company (Boston Pizza) is basically the equivalent of Applebees up in Canada - and when I go to one up there, I usually don't have a problem. But at the Columbus location here in the US, I have to say I haven't been impressed.
At lunch or on days where there isn't much going on around the arena, service and food are generally average to good, but any time I've tried to go there on game days or when Nationwide is hosting a concert or other large event, the food and service have both suffered. One one occasion I was with a party of 6 that was seated at a table for 30 minutes without so much as someone asking to take our drink orders before we got up and left. On 2 other occasions, food came out either burned, or worse, dangerously undercooked. (I ordered a chicken parm that came out pink and disgustingly squishy when I cut into it) - each time I reported problems to their management, they offered me a $25 gift card and asked for me to try them again. After being served the raw chicken? 3 strikes, and they're OUT.
The main reason I dine here is that it is close to my office. Â The food is OK, but nothing special. Â I like the lunch pizza and salad combo, plus it makes me chuckle when it shows on the bill as an '8" Nooner.'
My main complaint about this place is the service. Â I realize every time I've been was during crazy downtown lunch hours, but in the handful of times I've been there I've only had one good service experience.
During one occasion, I was seated at a booth right by the kitchen, I asked to be relocated. Â The second table was right by the entrance. Â So, both places were well trafficked areas making it hard to relax.
If Ted's Montana Grill just down the street is already full, this place will do the trick. Â Just not one of those places I really ever get excited about.
I am  "trying" to be a Vegan but I also travel a lot so it has not been easy. So I heavily depend on the management's willingness to accomodate special requests.
These guys had a great service and great food. I had a cheeseless, whole weat veggie pizza. It was fantastic and delicious. The waitress told me that this was her favorite food. True or not, it helped me save face in front of my colleagues.
Manager came by at end of our meal to ask how our experience was. all in all great service and great food. We ate in the Bar area and it was a nice sports bar atmosphere but not overwhelming with testostrone.
Boston's Pizza moved into Columbus' Arena District earlier this year; and, having given them most of the year to get past opening jitters, this Sunday we decided to give them a try.
First impression: Not bad, generic sports bar. There are tOSU and Blue Jackets pictures, posters, and random sports art framed and placed strategically on the walls.
Taking a look around: you're greeted with bright blues, fairly generic colored glass shaded spotlights on the ceiling, and blonde wood all over the place. There are plenty of flat panel TVs, and they are placed well throughout.
We ordered two Labatt Blues (on draft, $4 for 16oz - good and cold), which came in nice chilled glasses. The menu seemed to have a wide variety of food: pizzas (of course), pasta, a couple soups, plenty of dinner salads, wraps, hamburgers and a decent drink menu. There's nothing on this menu to offend the American palate, and honestly, is generic enough. It's what you'd expect from a chain. Think Champs, think Applebee's, think Uno's.
We ordered a small Rustic pizza, which is topped with spicy Italian sausage, red onions, green peppers, diced tomatoes, freshly grated parmesan, herbs, mozzarella and cheddar cheeses and side salads with blue cheese dressing.
Here is where strike 1 occurs:
The table of four finishing up when we sat down, got up and left before we ordered drinks. We've now ordered drinks, received them, and ordered dinner; the table and its dirty dishes have not been bussed. Now, this isn't a big deal -but I don't really enjoy dining 2 feet from a table of dirty dishes, wafting their food odors over in my direction. Keep that table in mind as you read, because it's not going to be bussed the entire time we're in the restaurant.
Back to strike 1. Â The food runner has apparently not communicated well with the waitress, because she wanders our two salads over to the newly seated table of 4, sitting about 6 feet closer to the entrance than our table. These 4 still have menus, and are actively reading them, but this doesn't stop our intrepid runner from walking directly to them and saying "salads, blue cheese?"
They, of course, did not want the salads. Our runner turned and noticed the two people staring at her, visually eating up the salads. She promptly came over and said, with a smile, "salads, blue cheese?" That's us!
On to the salads. I think the kitchen found a bag of Dole pre-mixed Iceberg salad, which they cut open and dumped into our bowls. The square-cut tomato bits, 3 rings of red onion, and 2 croutons, accompanied by 3 cherry tomatoes and a cup of dressing, surely came from the lowest effort kitchen Not to be outdone, my plate came with a nice touch of leftover chocolate fudge - either from our food runner's hand, or having not made it out of the dishwasher all the way clean. Luckily, it was on the underside of the plate's rim and didn't appear to ever have touched my salad. Just my finger when I moved the bowl. Â A quick swipe with the cloth napkin and all is well. Although, I think Steak and Shake called - they want their salad back.
Here comes strike 2:
Our pizza is wandering across the dining room, a different runner this time, and yes, YES! It's heading straight for the same four top again. Â The four top refuses the pizza, and the runner makes a prompt 180 and scoots back to the kitchen. Darn.
About 2 minutes later, our waitress heads towards us with the pizza.
The pizza's not a strike, and that does save Boston's from being out at home plate.
This isn't "good" pizza, and I won't be going back. But, that's not to say there's anything really wrong with it. The pizza was warm, not hot (maybe losing some heat on its scenic route to our table), and appeared to be hand tossed crust. The crust was not sweet, nor savory, just there to hold the pizza up. Boston's sauce is sweet, with a bit of basil in the background. Not a whole lot to it, just sweet sauce. The pizza was guilty of carrying the exact same diced tomatoes that our salads had, with a couple big chunks of rough chopped green pepper, and a couple big slices of onion. Sausage had been sprinkled liberally around the pie, and there was some parmesan dashed about.
We ate all of it, and agreed that the 10" pizza was a good amount of food for two people. The tab was about $25 before tip, and was placed and picked up fairly quickly by our quiet server.
Give Boston's a 4 of 10.
Nothing offensive, maybe a small mistake, and not a darn thing worth remembering.
A sports bar that puts it's culinary emphasis on pizza...why didn't I think of that? Sure, you can get pizza at places like Winking Lizard and Panini's, but when have you gotten one at a bar that's got more TV sets than it does beers on tap that tasted like it wasn't an afterthought. Boston's to the rescue!
There's not much to write about the atmosphere here other than that it's a sports bar in the Arena District. Use your imagination and it's probably right- Bud Light and Blue Jackets signs everywhere, a bar in the middle of the dining area, and a preponderance of sports viewing options from all angles. Good enough for me.
As for the pizza, I'm happy to say that it's far better than I expected when I first ate here. If it wasn't for the subtle hints of garlic and spices that underlined the crust and sauce respectively, this would be just an average pie, but I'd be confident in my ability to pick a slice from Boston's out of a lineup based on those attributes alone. The mozzarella is generous as well, which is always appreciated by this admitted cheese addict. The prices are nothing out of the realm of what you'd pay at any other establishment in the Arena District, so that's A-OK in my book as well. One word of warning- the pepperoni here gave me one hellacious case of heartburn that lasted well in to the evening I spent hitting up the bars in Park Street. I would not recommend anyone eating more than one  slice with this topping if you're planning on doing anything else for the next 6 hours or so. It might ruin your life. Other than that, Boston's gets my vote!
