A laid back, Â neighborhood bar that surprising has a few craft beer selections on tap and in the cooler. The bartenders are friendly and make you feel at home right away. The C & D is not fancy, it is what it is. Several TV's (I'm not a big fan of TV) are around the bar, and there is a pool table in the back room. Â
I can't speak for the women's room, but men's room is a bit beat up, with no door on the stall and a clear view from the urinal into the bar. Kind of odd. The patio is not fancy, but again, it's comfortable. You feel like your sitting in someone's backyard and several friendly neighbors have just stopped by to chat.
I enjoy stopping in when Steve or Mary Faith are bartending. Both are very , friendly, warm people. The C & D is a great place to get away from  chaotic establishments where folks are showing up to "be seen" A no nonsense place to relax.
When I walked into C&D Bar, I felt right away like a regulars-only, blue-collar, working man's bar. Everything is dark wood, its tiny room with a long bar, there are paper flyers tacked up everywhere and none of the seats match (you basically grab what you can get.)
The bartenders only help to secure this image. They're gruff and curt and basically throw your drink at you after you order it.
So yes, this felt like a regular's dive bar - a place to get a drink when the working day is over and you need a spot to relax ... except for one thing. When I walked into C&D bar, a drag show had just finished and there were drag queens throughout the tiny space (and who doesn't love a good drag queen?)
Yes, a hipster dive bar in Northside through and through.
I liked the idea behind the bar, but I just wasn't thrilled with it while there. It was the little things that bothered me. The place felt dirty - like everything in there was just a little gross. They also served the drinks in plastic cup. I hate when bars do this. If I'm paying $5 for a beer, give me a real glass. I'm not in college anymore, plastic cups are terrible.
And everything is overpriced. This bar might have been able to get away with the atmosphere and service if drinks were cheap, but they weren't.
There is free popcorn, which was a nice touch. There was also a medley of 80s music being played, which after reading past Yelp reviews, I learn is kind of their thing. That was fun.
Still, I don't think I would seek this bar out again. If I'm in the area, I'd much rather sit in somewhere like Northside Tavern. At least I get a real glass with my beer there.
