I go to Chez Nora sometimes during the week to eat and have a drink. Tuesday nights are half off appetizers and half off bottles of wine. Also, the Kentucky blue grass band has been playing upstairs on Tuesdays I believe starting at 8, gets really packed quick upstairs but always still room on the main level if so. I always get the Dip sampler the spinach and artichoke dip, and the hummus are so good. The Covington hero sandwich is really good as well. definitely worth checking out! Entrees can be a little expensive but if you get the 1/2 off appetizers and a sandwich its not too bad!

This place is hideous. My wife and I stopped by on a Saturday evening for a drink and appetizer. We had dinner reservations across the street at Bouquet and wanted to have a little something before dinner.

We walked into the place and the first thing we noticed was how outdated this place was. However, we overlooked this and took a seat at the bar. There was one bartender working the whole bar and also making drinks for the servers that was helping the other patrons in the restaurant.      We ordered a glass of wine and a glass of champagne. It took the bartender about 10 minutes to get these. Once he dropped them off, I immediately ordered the crab dip with pita bread.

While we were waiting, we were looking at the bar and the place is filthy. It literally needs a scrubbing. My wife used the restrooms and they were gross as well. About 20 minutes goes by and still no appetizer. We look into the kitchen and see the guy (notice can't call him a chef) that is running expo take a piece of chewing gum out of his mouth and throw it in the trash. He then continues with putting meals together and never washes his hands. We were disgusted at this point and asked the bartender for our check and to take the dip off because we had waited for so long.

He runs to the kitchen and brings it out. The dip was below average. We tasted it and then paid the bill.

Avoid this place at all costs. It is disgusting.

I went here on a date. The prices on the food are kind of expensive and the food that I got wasn't really that great. They do give you a good portion size, but I still don't see it being worth a second visit.

The service was great. They were really prompt about everything.

We really enjoyed our meal here.  The staff was very attentive.  Our cocktails were excellent- the bartender is quite skillful.  The food was delicious.   Highly recommend the crab cakes and the croque Monsieur.  Very reasonable cost.  In summary: a great find and worth the trip.

The rooftop is lovely. The crabcakes are delicous. Half priced bottles and glasses of wine on Tuesdays is a great perk. However, the bartenders are not good. I've been here multiple times and find myself waiting FOREVER when they're not busy. Our server was great. Also,be aware the wine by the glass may have been opened last week.

I give this 4 stars because on a Thursday night my fiancee and I were able to eat dinner on the rooftop overlooking the city at sunset. I don't know if this would be possible on the weekend. On our return trip we will probably stick to drinks and appetizers because the entrees were a bit too expensive for our budget, but it was was worth the splurge on a birthday dinner.

I don't recommend the goat cheese appetizer, it was 75% marinara sauce, 25% goat cheese. Pretty disappointing. But the entrees were solid.

It had a good ambiance and atmosphere. We will go back again when we want to have a special night out.

We decided to visit the roof-top bar at Chez Nora on the hottest evening of July 2012 ~ not sure what we were thinking. After climbing numerous flights of steps we were greeted by a lone bartender. Fortunate for us he was out there because we didn't know what awaited us was a cozy little bar inside to start a wonderful evening of dinner, drinks and jazz. While I think the prices are high it's a nice place for a special evening out.

On 5/9/2012 I visited Chez Nora with a co-worker.  I loved the old building and the atmosphere of this establishment immediately.  We were served promptly and the service was stellar the entire evening.

My co-worker insisted we start with the Goetta Rolls and she was absolutely right.  They were out of this world.  I have heard of Goetta before but have never heard of it being done egg roll style in a fried wrapper with a dipping sauce.  Now don't go and explain exactly what Goetta is and what part of what animal is in it because I like it and probably won't if you explain it to me.  (Alright, the curiosity got the best of me and I looked it up and I will still eat it as it is just a form of sausage with a filler of oats.)  Not sure what the brown dipping sauce for the rolls was but it was delicious.

We asked about the Ahi Tuna special that night and our server was honest and said he had not heard good reports so we stayed away.

We got the filet tip salads and were very happy with the choice.  I loved the freshness of the romaine, asparagus, garlic horseradish red skin potatoes with the blue cheese and the beef tips.

I want to try the crab cakes some time.  I was torn between them and the salad.

Next time I am back for business I will insist on going there again and maybe sit on the rooftop patio if the weather is nice.

My friend celebrated his 30th birthday on the rooftop patio on a warm spring evening. It was a perfect night to experience Chez Nora for the first time, with soothing live jazz music, a light breeze, and a scenic view of Cincinnati. One of my favorite parts was watching the trains come by on the overpass every 10 minutes. It's the little things.

Our server did a wonderful job keeping tabs on our table of six. We shared a dip sampler, which offered four different tastes of hummus, salsa, caprese, and spinach artichoke dip. I ordered the Goat Cheese & Marinara sauce dish, served with pita bread. The cheese was toasted to perfection and blended with the marinara. It was a new and fabulous taste! My friends had the crab cakes, a quesadilla, and a few gourmet salads. Everyone devoured their food.

I definitely look forward to returning here for some relaxing evenings on the patio and to indulge in their giant salads.

    Price per person: $15.00

Recently, I threw a birthday dinner for my best friend at Chez Nora for around 16 people on a Friday evening. Our party arrived at various times and the host and waiter were very accommodating. Service was beyond excellent, especially for a party of this size.

My girlfriend and I split our entrees so we could try a couple different dishes. We had the Crab Cake Dinner and the Parmesan Dusted Basa. The crab cakes (what they are known for) were so delicious the parmesan dusted basa paled in comparison and I would not order that again.  I also sampled some of my friends Basil Mozzarella Chicken Pasta and it was quite tasty. I had a few of their signature cocktails that were decent.

After dinner the party went upstairs to the rooftop Jazz club (half inside/half outside). It was a great enviroment to have a few drinks, talk with friends, and listen to some good music. I only wish that it would have been a little warmer so we could have utilized the outside portion more.

This a great place for rooftop drinks and great music.  The food is classic and the Blues debuts inspired us to ask a performer to sing at our wedding in Eden Park.  This patio should be your on your To-Do List this Summer.

I had the opportunity to visit here when American Airlines refuse to board me to the second leg of my connecting flight due to overbooking. I guess they thought I would enjoy the nightlife in the neighborhood. After a quick walk on the Main Strasse; it was evident that a few places were safe bets. I took my chances towards Chez Nora, and it indeed was a good choice.

I have ordered the shrimp salad and fried oysters. Both were pretty good, definitely recommended. Luckily it was a Friday night and the place had live music, which was pretty good. The prices for drink / food were reasonable as well. If I get stuck in the greater Cincinnati Airport again, I know where to spend the evening.

This place is far past it's glory days. Now it has all the charm and menu originality of a VFW hall. The service is lukewarm, like the food. With so many other great pubs in the area, I don't know why you would go here.

Went there on a Sunday for lunch.  The food was ok, nothing I couldn't find anywhere else.  Service was ok, food was ok.  The new menu did not have as many choices and left me not as impressed.  I will be returning though, if have liked other menus much better.

Being that I am going to this place tonight.. I thought I would toot the old horn on this one finally. Chez Nora located at the beginning of Mainstrauss is a favorite of mine. I honestly have not had a full meal here that I can think of, but have had some appetizers that were all good. I usually head here for some good music and drinks at the rooftop jazz club. The jazz club is always hopping right around 9pm through midnight.
They have a father/daughter band that is playing there tonight. Anna & Milovan. They are amazing. My wife and I never miss a show of hers. It is a real treat considering she is only here ever so often. She has a great voice and can really read a crowd. She always packs the house when at the jazz club. She is great at owning cover songs as well as singing a few of her own originals. Her range in songs is anywhere between Lady Gaga to Bill Monroe. If her father sings you are in for a real treat. It's not often but a true crowd pleaser. If you don't go here for food at least check her out and sit in on a show. That is if you're lucky. Usually standing room only. It is also 100% smoke free and no cover charge EVER. Hard to believe, I know. Most guys wear jackets in the cooler months. So you may need to get a little dressed up. Servers are always great and very attentive. Can't wait for tonight.

As a follow up. Had the goat cheese appetizer. It was very rich and good. Just the right about of pita's for dipping as well. All in all a good dip. Music was great as always.

Went here to shoot a birthday party (we're photographers).  The lady managing the space was super nice and helpful.  Plus, I love that she was able to choose a genre on Pandora that the 85 year old birthday girl enjoys and play it using her phone over the room speakers (set a good atmosphere).

They gave us full access to use any area we needed to capture 30 people in the party.

The 2nd floor was perfect for 30 guests.  The warm sun coming in the windows and a lit candle on each table just added to all the love in the room for this wonderful lady.

We didn't eat this time since we were working (have in the past and it was really good) but the families did and were very happy with the meal.

This is one of our favorite summer brunch spots. We often go on sundays mornings and get a sidewalk table. The food is good, the food servce is a little slow, but like their other customers we are there to enjoy the morning and watch the world go by. There are often activities at  the Mainstasse as an extra bonus to head that way.

I vacillate between slight irritation and mild adoration when I think of Chez Nora. On one hand, it has a fantastic rooftop patio with a great view of Cincinnati. It also has jazz musicians. All very good.

However, the food seems fairly pricey for what you get. For example, an order of the goetta eggrolls (pretty tasty) is around $8 for two eggrolls.  Happy hour drink prices aren't bad, but the last time I went, I asked for the cocktail menu and got major attitude from the very grouchy server that there was no cocktail menu. Except, there was... the martini menu. Call me crazy but aren't martini's in the cocktail category?  Or even if not technically so, can be understood to be a cocktail? Anyway, I've tried a few of the martinis, and while they are stiff, they aren't incredibly delicious.

I'll probably end up here again, if only for the views, but probably not terribly often.

I love open air seating! Maybe it's from growing up in a house without air conditioning and thus spending every evening and meal sitting outside on our back deck, but I am an absolute sucker for a nice patio! So, of course, I love the Rooftop at Chez Nora. It's a beautiful view with a nice breeze and easy access to the bar--I mean, what more could you want?!? Oh, live music you say? Well then you will be pleased with the live jazz musicians that are a signature part of the Chez Nora Rooftop experience!

The service is always great and they serve food both downstairs and upstairs. They have a nice selection and it's a great place to go either for a meal or for some appetizers and drinks. And hey, sometimes it's great for just the drinks! :)

They have a nice wine list and there's just something so relaxing about kicking back on the roof with a bottle of wine and your best friend on a cool spring evening or a hot summer night overlooking the little German streets of Mainstrasse. It's what living here is all about!

My wife and I have been there quite a few times for drinks up in the roof top. They are on the pricey side for their drinks. But the view and the live bands makes up for it. And we had never eaten dinner until ended up there because the wait to get into York Street Café was 2 hours wait.
So, service was not bad, food was ok at best. Again it was on the pricey side for what all you got. Sorry I can't remember what we got, the wife and I ate there like 2 months ago and I never got around to reviewing till now.
But in the long and short of it. Not a place I plan on going back to dinner for. There was nothing to special about the food. We will still get drinks there when the friends are wanting to go. Not a 1st choice kind of place for us.

We have been here a few times and it has never failed to be anything but great! The rooftop seating is outstanding on a warm night! The food is good. The servers we have had in the past have been very nice and eager to make suggestions on the menu or the wine list.  I would love to come here on a night when they have live music. We will definitely be back!!!

Been to Chez Nora several times. Every time has been a fine experience. Even had a real estate closing here once. Tonight a Friend was in the mood for a beer and some cheese fries.

Who could say no to that. He had a Dark beer we split a half price appetizer and he hit on a cute blond court reporter. Cheese fries were hot and cheesy the check was $9.50 not bad. We had an enjoyable conversation in while my tea totaling friend copped a buzz. Our Server whose name I missed did a great job putting up with a couple of old guys. We'll be back.

Went here on on a winter night so I didn't get to experience the outdoor patio with live jazz which I hear is a must, so i will have to come back in the summer.

Pros: The Steak Nora is very good. It is about 8oz and comes with two sides. The sauce makes it and the same goes for the crab cakes which were probably the moistest crab cakes I have ever had. Ever.

For dessert I had the Creme Brulee which I have to get anytime I see it offered. This was probably the largest Creme Brulee I have ever had. I couldn't finish it, and if you know me you know that it must be pretty darn big for me to leave some on the plate. Also the burnt sugar didn't taste like the butane lighter, so extra points to you.

The atmosphere is nice and warm. They kept lowering the lights as it got darker outside. The staff was also helpful and kind since it was our first time there they assisted us in our food selections. They also seem good at accommodating large groups.

Cons: No bread until our meal came out. Maybe this was because we ordered and Appetizer. Also (and this is just a general complaint of most places i go to) the temperature of the meat was not Medium. Raw dark pink is not Medium and I refuse to order Medium Well because then its just too close to well done. I lobby for a "High Medium" temperature that bridges the gap. Also the menu didn't wow me. Its good but I feel like it could be a little more exciting.

So with only the lack of bread and temperature bringing it down, I will go back and hopefully in the summer.

Now, I'm giving Chez Nora 5+ stars, but with a contingency -- you HAVE to eat / drink on the rooftop when the weather is nice. Sexiest place in the Cincinnati area, by far. No better place to take a date or folks from out of town or meet up with friends. Tuesday nights are even better with half price wine.

If you're not on the rooftop, the place becomes pretty average, and there's a lot better dining options in the area (like across the street...). I'd give the inside 2 1/2 stars. But the rooftop is so dope....

Came here on a recommendation.  I am a huge crab cake fan and was told these guys had the best in town.  The place lived up to billing!!

That crab cake is damn near 100% crab, and the sauce is spicy and superb.  It's got a great kick to it.  One of the better crab cake experiences I've had.

Their cajun chicken caesar is also really good.  They don't skimp on the quality of their chicken and it tastes fantastic.

Mussels were pretty "eh" and the mashed potatoes weren't very good at all.

Service: our waitress was really sweet, took great care of us, and was really nice to talk to.  I definitely liked her a lot and when she noticed we didn't care for the mussels she took it off our bill all on her own!  She was a bit spacey though.  She definitely seemed like she was having a long Monday, and was clearly overworked, but didn't rush when talking to us at all.  The downfall was that the service felt occasionally slow.

I'd say a great dining experience if you stick to the right menu items and can get some more attentive service.  I generally like servers, but she was above and beyond in coolness.  At the same time, I generally am pretty patient, but this pushed it.

Chez Nora is unique for rooftop jazz.  It's fun to go, and once I went for 1/2 price margarita night (they were huge and good)!  Their food menu and service are mediocre at best.  Not bad, just nothing special.  Surprisingly expensive in my opinion!

I've never been to KY before, and this was the place I was taken to for a quick lunch. We both had a lunch special - deep-fried breaded tilapia filets. It was excellent! For dessert I had a vanilla creme brulee, which was easily the largest, but more importantly, tastiest, creme brulee I have ever had. It was rich, decadent and creamy. Wow. Great place. Great service.

When I was in college I spent a month or so working for a small, upscale restaurant in Covington. Back then it was just a large front room with a bar and some outside seating. In the following years the owners added several floors of dining space, a couple private party rooms and a top floor jazz bar with a large swank patio. We decided to go see local pianist Ricky Nye one night. I thought Chez Nora was pretty upscale last time I was there about 8 years ago. Today it's a gorgeous if pricey place to enjoy a partial view if the city, a birds eye view of Main Strasse and a great place to watch music.

The baby grand is what hit us when we exited the elevator onto the third floor. It's been years since I saw Ricky Nye play and when I did it was on an out of tune upright at the Southgate House. While the food and drink prices are pretty high the dimly lit and well decorated atmosphere makes it worth the price. It was also really nice to watch a train start over an Ohio River bridge from the roof, far enough away that the noise didn't interrupt my conversations.

Chez Nora is a Main Strasse hot spot most likely due to its fabulous rooftop bar with a view of the Cincinnati skyline. The restaurant and bar utilizes three floors and has a Cajun flair to its menu choices.

The first floor bar and rooftop bar are great places to hang out, enjoy some drinks and the music, even in the colder months due to outdoor heaters. Thursday is martini night, which means special prices. They have live music several nights of the week.

During the only dinner experience I had there, the food was not equal to the ambiance. We had problems with both entrees...the steak was tough and my salad had something inedible in it.  The server, however, handled the problem tactfully and efficiently and we did not have to pay for anything.

I can't speak to the complaints about Chez Nora's food, because I didn't eat there. However, I did grab a few drinks with girls on the restaurant's rooftop and we had a marvelous time. After climbing three flights of stairs, we reached Chez Nora's roof-top seating that can accommodate about 40 to 50 people (my guestimate).

The view is absolutely picturesque, the perfect atmosphere for unwinding during the work week or taking a first date. A few of the tables had umbrellas that helped block the setting sun. The roof-top patio is even great once the suns gone down. Five nights a week the open air lounge is transformed in to jazz club with live local music.

I will definitely return to Chez Nora's Rooftop Terrace Bar, as it is one of the nicest outdoor seating locations in MainStrasse.

I have been here twice. The first experience was okay, went for apps and drinks. The food is okay . . .nothing really stands out in my mind. I decided to go again, despite my first experience. The salad I had was good and they had some kind of curry dressing which I liked. My date ordered a dirty martini, but it was not very good. The service was attentive, but the food mundane.

Not awful, but not great either. On a recent visit members of our party had the Black & Bleu Chicken Pasta, the Crawfish touffe, and the Beef Stroganoff special. Sizable portions but the Black & Bleu Chicken Pasta and Stroganoff both lacked flavor. The touffe was a bit better, but we expected a little more for the price. Wine and beer selection is decent and service is adequate.
