There's usually a seat at the bar even when it looks like the place is full. This is a good bet when you're in the international terminal at PHL. The Cibo wine bar in this terminal is really small and always packed (those Europeans, they like their wine), so this is a good spot to have a drink and a bite to eat with a little breathing room. Normally, Cibo is my go-to in other terminals, or better yet, in that little shopping area between terminals. That one has super comfy seats.
Anyways, this is a C&P's review, not Cibo :) They have an awesome draft list for an airport place; I got a Victory Hop Devil. Definitely go with the high ABV before a flight. I also munched on some crabby fries (man that cheese sauce is way too good!) and some buffalo chicken tenders that were pretty darn tasty. Nothing fancy, but they have something for everyone. Bartenders were friendly and a few people at the bar were really looking to party. It's a livelier scene than one usually finds in an airport.
I went back, this time I was hungrier. Â Had the Phili cheese steak and the crab fries. Â Both were good. Â Wasn't too busy and I found a nice place at the bar to have an extra beer and watch the news on TV. Â Don't worry too much if there is a crowd as the turnover is pretty quick.
Oh, there is also now more seating just across the way in an open air area across from the restaurant.
Decided on this place instead of the food court gyro and steak place. Good choice I think. Â Delish first cheesesteak experience. The"extra long" really isn't too overwhelming, but still only decided to eat half. Didn't want to be ridic bloated on the plane. I think there's a Chickies in every terminal. Kind of limited tap..but I got some Hop Devil from Victory.so cheers! Made this girl hoppy/happy :-D The price is just as expected for the airport..could have been a little more generous with the cheesesauce. But overall I was satisfied. This one was right across from the c30 gate in the C terminal.
Review Source:Stopped here for a quick dinner before boarding a flight. I was thinking about a sandwich but instead got this bowl of soup they make that is some sort of very thick potato bacon slop with french fries and cheese sauce poured on top. No idea what I was thinking ordering this as it must be about the fattiest most calorie laden creation ever found in a bowl. But the deal was, I was hungry and it tasted pretty good after all. And was totally filling. This place seemed to have good tasting food in huge portions but most of it looked very heavy, cheesy and fatty type stuff so be warned.
Review Source:Can't beat the crab fries. I was hungry at the airport and stopped here for a beer and the crab fries. I hate airport beer prices and the lack of space for bags. But it's still a pretty cool place to hang out. The real Chickie and Pete's bar is amazing. Everyone should see that. This is convenient though.
Review Source:Service was ok (except for the waiter complaining about another customer), the food I got was some of the worst I've ever had. Â I had a buffalo chicken sandwich which just tasted like frozen breaded chicken with no flavor on a hoagie roll, with the flavorless blue cheese. If you eat here, avoid that item on the menu.
Review Source:I have never been to the original location. Â I just stopped here during a lay over in PHL. Â It's find your own seating. Â I got really lucky and was able to find a table after navigating windy, narrow, luggage-riddled aisles. Â The walls are tiled w/ pictures of the owner w/ celebrities and athletes.
I ordered the South Philly Style Cheesesteak w/ roasted red peppers and creamy cheese sauce. Â Very messy. Â Very rich. Â Very good. Â The meat was not too fatty which can sometimes happen w/ cheap cheese steaks. Â The fries are krinkle cut but deep fried and crispy. Â Very, very salty fries but still good.
It took a while for the server to come by and I was waiting for refills a couple times but she was stretched too thin in general. Â The place was packed and there weren't enough servers for patrons ratio wise so you have to take that into account. Â Took a while to get my check. Â
Even though the service was slow, the food was very good. Â If I have to go through PHL again in this terminal, I'd come back.
Found Chickie & Pete's right across from my gate (C31) so I stopped by to have a few drinks and a light meal prior to catching my flight. They have 8-9 beers on tap, most of them domestic junk plus some Heineken and Amstel - nothing fancy. Beer is priced at about what youd expect ($5.50/pint or ~$9 for the larger glass). For food, I had the mussels in their garlic white sauce. The sauce is more of a garlic butter sauce than what I think of when someone says "white sauce" but it was tasty and they provide plenty of bread to dip it with as you're eating the mussels. The mussels themselves were okay, nothing special but you get a pretty large portion for $12, which is fairly reasonable considering the overpriced atmosphere of most airport dining establishments. Service was polite throughout. Overall a decent but unremarkable experience.
Review Source:I stood at the podium waiting for a table, but the two hostesses were chatting away. The bartender saw me but didn't acknowledge me either. I finally got eye contact with one of the hostesses and she walked away towards the kitchen and even looked back at me a couple of times, but she never came over to me. I finally waved at her and she shook her head like "what do you want?" She finally looked fed up at me and told me that I could seat anywhere myself. ..like I was supposed to have known that!!! She could have told me that the first time she noticed me standing there waiting. C'mon people. I can't believe how rude this airport is. I had a bad experience at pets coffee and tea as well. The coffee is overpriced and tastes watered down. I never ended up staying at chickies. I left of course. In case the owners read this. It was on November 14th around 9:30am in the morning. The hostess had a weirded looking bun on the top of her head. Brunette. The other hostesses behind the sandwich bar also saw me standing there waiting for service. I ended up going next door. Are they like that with everyone or because I was Asian?
Review Source:I was waiting for my flight to depart from PHL to ATL and had never been to Chickie & Pete's so gave this location a go. So the two stars deducted are strictly from service. It was self-seating, so I sat and literally waited for about 20 minutes. Finally someone comes from the back and cleans off the other table which a huge party just got up from. That took another 10 minutes. I finally get a menu and decided to get gluttonous and ordered the lobster cheesesteak and crab fries. HOLY CHRIST!! That was a delicious cheesesteak. They were not stingy with the steak, lobster, or other toppings. The sesame roll was different than what I was used to but amazing nonetheless. The fries were ok - tasted like old bay seasoning and the cheese dip also had some old bay sprinkled in it. One of the best cheesesteaks I've ever had in Philly. I would recommend a different location besides the airport one, as the service could potentially be better.
Definitely try out Chickie & Pete's whenever in Philadelphia!
I have heard of this place for years, and i was really ready for their famous crab fries.  I get there get the famous crab fries with a bonus side of, as the waitress says " even better" sweet fries annndd they both suck.  I have been putting old bay on my fries for years and after eating these from chick and petes i have decided that i am now going to start selling mine from home since they taste 150 times better.  My sister got the fried shrimp for 7.95  and received 6 shrimp.  Really you can buy a bag for that much.  And a watermelon martini..  Sucked and sucked....I got the hot style shrimp, only good thing about that is i recieved about 14 jumbo sized shrimp  for 8.95.  But the taste was like someone just boiled them and put the shrimp in some ready  made sauce... I also ordered a grape martini which tasted like a flat welches soda.  Sucked.  My hubby ordered the ultimate tailgate burger which sounded so nice on the menu. A burger with a crabcake on top..  Lets go for it...  Having lived in Maryland for about 5 years i was expecting a CRAB cake not some minced meat and  mayo. He ended up taking that concotion off the burger.  Even my daughter, who is a human vaccuum cleaner, would not eat her regular burger.  Sad!!!  They get two stars becuase we were seated quickly and the service was okay.  But i will never go there again...
Review Source:The service leaves a lot to be desired for sure, but the drinks were strong and quickly made once I got the bartender's attention. To be fair almost the entire bar must have been on the same flight as everyone cleared at the same time. Â
I ordered the award winning mussels in red sauce and WOW! They is not disappoint. Served with what may be a half of loaf of sesame bread, the sauce was amazing. Steaming, just the right amount of spicy, a huge portion of mussels, glimmering with olive oil, bits of onion and garlic floating amidst crushed tomatoes and bay leaves. Â Topped off with a sprinkle of parmesan cheese. I needed the whole half loaf to finish it off. Â Fantastic!!
Had lunch there today and it totally sucked. Â I ordered a salad with grilled chicken. Â The lettuce was wilted and dried out. Â The grilled chicken was breaded, fried, and served cold as if it was in the refrigerator for at least a week. Â The cherry tomatoes were shriveled up and not even close to fresh. Â They have a lot of nerve serving crap like this. Â I should have reported them to the board of health. Â I could not eat it and threw it in the trash. Â
When I got to my gate at the end of Terminal D, there was a nice restaurant there that had nice fresh salads made to order along with a ver nice selection of sandwiches and fresh fruits. Â Next time, I'll eat there instead.
I've made a few stops here on regular layovers through Philly. If you're looking for something a little different from fast food it isn't bad and you have a chance to snag a semi-local craftbrew on draft (Victory) - just don't expect a fine dining style of experience.
The food is of your standard quality for an airport. In other words, nothing to set the world on fire but not awful either. That said, for Philly, I do not recommend the cheesesteak. The meat was dry and flavorless and you can get better elsewhere. Â I had better luck with the crabby fries and buffalo chicken sandwich on a separate visit. Â Both were passable. Â The prices on items are somewhat steep for what you get. Â It isn't helped that the menu is pretty much a la carte on most items so keep that in mind when you order a sandwich and fries.
Service can fluctuate at times depending on the volume from inbound flights and whether or not local sport teams are being broadcast. Â If there is a smaller crowd, the servers seem to be pretty good. Â If business starts to pick up, expect a wait and the need to do a little vocalization or hand waving to get some attention.
Again, all in all it isn't terrible but you're likely to find better if you can wait to reach your destination or, from what I've heard, if you can actually go to the C&P near the stadiums.
I had a huge layover in Philly and knew a cheese steak was in order. My Philly friends told me to try this place so off I went to search for it. There wasn't any wait and it had a decent sized crowd but I could still find a seat at the bar. I was pretty underwhelmed with my experience here. Bad service and the cheese steak wasn't that good. Now the cheese sauce on the hand was fantastic. They could have seriously just brought me a cup of that and I would have been a happy gal (or just strapped an iv to my ass because that's exactly where it was going).
Review Source:It's a shame that this place bears the name "Chickie & Pete's" as it is a huge departure (airport pun intended) from the mother ship restaurant by the stadiums. The limited menu is missing the Magooby sandwich. The crab fries are a good staple and go great with a lager when riding out an airline delay. The cheesesteaks are sub-par and if you're in the mood for one and facing a 1-2 hour layover, it might be worth taking a round-trip cab ride into South Philly, especially if your bags are checked and you don't have to deal with presenting your liquid baggie to TSA on the way back through.
Review Source:This place was pretty busy when we came in and had to wait 10 minutes before someone noticed us. Â
The plain fries were excellent - very crispy, but it came with a white cheesy sauce that I can only describe as white nacho sauce...not very good.
The cheese steak was okay. Â The meat was really dry. Â As for the mussels with white sauce and garlic...don't get them. Â They were over cooked, tough, and the white sauce had a ton of vinegar in it.
I can only recommend this place for the beers and fries.
Now perhaps I have a different approach than some of the other reviewers, but I would generally not go to a bar looking for great food, especially not a bar in an airport. Personally I stopped in here looking for a beer while waiting for a very delayed flight back to Boston. I personally found the place restorative after having a couple pints of Victory HopDevil Ale (terrific!) while watching the Bruins win the Stanley Cup with the other folks heading back to Boston.
Review Source:I've always heard of how great the Philly cheese steaks are in Philadelphia, so I was so excited to try one. Â Ok, this may have been in the airport, but still, I expected way better. Â The steak was flavorless and only tasted average when I would bite into the top part where there was melted cheese. Â I've had way better cheese steaks in Texas. Â Sorry, but this Philly cheese steak at this location was nothing to brag.
Review Source:We were up at 4am to catch a flight to Seattle and had eat breakfast in PHL around 8am.
Wow, Philly Cheese Steak with eggs for breakfast!!! That's awesome. But you do get overwhelmed by all the cheese quickly, like my wife. She can only finish half of her sandwich. So do share if you can't finish a big cheese-steak in the early morning.
OMG...this place was amazing!!!! Â and not for obvious reasons...people keep talking about the fries (I forget the exact name but it's the one they're famous for)...they were ok...not fantastic...the sauce was good but I wish they have sprinkled more of the seasoning on it...
The highlight of my meal was the crab cake sandwich...which my server suggested...I was mulling over the menu and asked for her opinion on the crab cakes, the philly and the philly with lobster...she said that the crab cakes are more pricey and you get just the same amount as the sandwich, of course the philly is the obvious choice but if you're craving seafood...not exactly the winner...and she mentioned that the lobster one is kind of dry so you might want to add butter...hmmm...decisions decisions...so I decided to go with my gut...I chose the crab cake sandwich...
WOWZERS...it was a huge crab cake...the roll it was served on was the perfect compliment and the sauce was tasty...OMG...I was so full that I didn't finish my fries...
all in all...it was a great meal...and all for under $20
Great breakfast wraps! I ordered the scrambled eggs and cheese-steak in a wrap and it was so good and kept me full for awhile, which was good because I was flying cross country! It would have been nice if they offered some healthier options, like something small as a whole wheat tortilla!
One of the servers was new and she was pretty bad. The main server was good and on top of things! I don't think the new girl will last too long.
Dropped 1/2 a star because of the aftermath.
We had a 3 hour layover at the airport last night so we were looking for something to eat. We came upon Chickie & Pete's after remembering a colleague mentioning how great their crab fries were when I was in NJ for work.
We decided on counter service and realized the lady could have at least taken some interest. Like what Colleen wrote, "whatever" service. Not a big deal. I decided on a classic burger with crabfries and my boyfriend had the roast pork sandwich with roasted red peppers and cheese. I had to wait 15 minutes for the burger and when it finally came out, we dug in. The portions are huge. The fries were actually good but became overwhelming after a while. Too much seasoning that overpowered the fries. The cheese sauce was ok. The burger was just a burger, nothing special. The roast pork sandwich was good but we've had better. But still, with the price for airport food, it was a good deal.
I was exhausted after a full day of traveling and slept peacefully until this morning when I had a bad stomach ache followed by unpleasant symptoms that I'm still dealing with as we speak. I immediately realized I had a case of food poisoning. I concluded the cause was the burger because my boyfriend was fine after eating the fries and he didn't have any of my burger. I hope anyone who ordered the burger with lettuce and tomato was fine and maybe it was just me that got unlucky. Thank goodness it didn't happen until I got home. I can't imagine being sick on a plane.
Aside from the food poisoning, the food wasn't bad but I probably won't go back because this experience will haunt me psychologically.
Ok. Did the walk up window since I had pup in tow. And of course I know it's not a place to get a "real" philly steak but I wanted to have one last one before I got on the plane and I wanted to try their "crab" fries I hear so much about.
First, the service, def airport "whatever" service. They take your name for your order but then they call out what you order instead of your name #fail.
The cheesesteak was huge and they did not skimp on the meat, however, the "cheese" and I use quotations because I am pretty sure it was some kind of cheese sauce and onions were just poured on top which didn't do much for the massive amounts of meat underneath. Plus, it was super sloppy to eat. Â But for the most party, tasty.
The crab fries only come in one size and to explain the size... think medium popcorn at the movies. Yeah, jumbo. Â But they def did live up to the raving, they were delicious!
So next time, if there is a next time, I'll stop in the bar for the experience and order something else to go with the jumbo crab fries.
I know it's not an authentic philly cheese steak sandwich, and I know not to expect ultimate cuisine (seeing as how we are in an airport). I was on a layover, was hungry, and was sober. A couple martinis and a satisfying cheese steak sandwich with crawfish (yuuuuum) later, I was happily ready to depart on my next long flight.
Review Source:chickie & petes @ PHL terminal C. ive eaten here a couple of times while traveling on us airways. i choose this place cause the food is better than the rest of the other close by options plus they serve alcohol and who wants to fly sober? not that many people right? exactly.
the philly cheese steak is pretty good, the burgers are good too. the only thing is that if you want fries, you have to order any side separately. so what do i always choose? a beer. guinness sells for $5.50 yuengling on draft too.
i guess i gotto try the mussels cause almost everyone who worked here was wearing a 'got mussels?' t-shirt.
