I like this place. Â The decor is fairly bright and authentic, however, I like my traditional Irish pub to be a bit darker and cozier. Â The Irish beer is well taken care of and the traditional Irish food is delicious. Â Unfortunately, I was there on a slow weekday, and the band playing was loud and not so traditional. Â This is a great Irish pub for Columbus, but I like my Irish pubs a little less American.
Review Source:We've been here several times, the food is consistently good. Â The waitstaff is friendly and attentive, the beer selection is great, and their happy hour specials are wonderful. Â Monday night they have two for the price of one Fish N' Chips which also includes the Shrimp and chips. Â We love their appetizers but when we go on Monday's we order the Shrimp N' Chips first to share as our appetizer, and then the Fish N' Chips second as our dinner.
Oh, ask for the vinegar based slaw, SO MUCH BETTER than the mayo based (blah) slaw.
Met a buddy here for dinner on a Monday evening. Since there wasn't a Blue Jackets game that night, the place was pretty dead. The printed beer list was a few months out of date, according to the waitress, so she had to go through the list twice since I got there before my friend did. The first two beers I asked for they were out of. It was happy hour so pints were only $3. I ordered the fish and chips and got a huge piece of fish that was very tasty. It was also seafood night so if you ordered the fish and chips you got another fish and chips or a shrimp dish for free, so I got shrimp to go and had it for lunch the next day. Some of the tables were not cleaned when I got there and one of them was broken. The service was OK, nothing spectacular, especially considering how slow they were. They had music on, right on the border of being too loud, but the song selection was good. My buddy and I kept commenting that they were tunes we have on our own playlists. However, it was obvious that they were using a phone plugged into a headphone jack, as we kept hearing Facebook notifications interrupting the music.
Review Source:"Failte roime an Chladaigh" or to say, "Welcome to Claddagh!".
Subdued lighting, dark wood, warm and inviting. Â Cozy places to sit and eat and drink with friends. Â Snugs, an Anglo - Irish gift to the restaurant world, are available if you'd like to have your own intimate, private dining area. Â Great for something a bit out of the way.
After a bit of Asian indulgence recently, I figured it's time to "reconnect" my Gaelic self  with my island roots.  Dublin, Glasgow and Edinburgh are out of the question this year, so, I'll try a pub. Â
It being an Irish pub, whatever you do, you've got to get the fish and chips. Â Most everything I've had here is awesome but the fish and chips make my mouth water just thinking about them. Â BTW ask for them a little well done. Â Seriously, ask. Â You'll be thanking Mike later.
The Irish breakfast is awesome, although I don't get the black and white pudding, no way! Â The Shepherd's Pie is very good as well as the Jameson's Burger. Â
Their beer selection? Â Could be a bit more adventurous but you'll surely find something you'll like.
If you like Irish music, live Irish music at that, be sure to stop by when one of the local bands are playing. Â Their website is always up to date, so check it out and then check them out. Â They'll have your feet tapping in no time.
It's in a great location. Â And with the influx of even more high-end apartments going in around front st there should be lots of clientele to keep this place busy. Â The actual bar is even kind of cool, but from there problems are abundant. Â
It's a chain so that's kind of a downer. Â The food is exactly what you would expect. Â The fish and chips used to be pretty solid but even those have seem to go downhill recent. Â The biggest problem is the service or lack there of. Â It seems perpetually understaffed. Â Basically even a run in for a quick bite and beer will take you over an hour. Â This would be understandable if they were busy, but it is always pretty dead in there. Â Kind of an older crowd. Â Not really sure how that happens given the location, but it does.
We ordered delivery from Claddagh and it was a hit with everyone!
Between the four of us, we ordered the Bangers and Champ, the Galway Salad with salmon, the meatloaf melt and the Chicken Spinach Melt.
Everything got rave reviews, except the chicken Spinach Melt, which was just ok but still good enough to bring us back for another go-around. We also tried a side of mac and cheese which was good as well.
The food was really really hot when it arrived which was a great sign. Service from the girl on the phone and the delivery girl was fantastic.
We will return.
We stumbled across place during a recent trip to the Brewery District. I, for one, am always on the prowl for a super good Irish bar.
It was super packed and appeared to be super busy, which is great. We found some stools and were served pretty quickly by a very attentive bartender. The atmosphere is super-authentic, and, quite frankly, we hadn't had dinner yet and were kind of hungry.
HOWEVER.... for some reason or another.. there was some sort of political rally going on with people giving speeches and it was very disruptive and terribly out of place. Our bartender apologized profusely for it and understood why we ducked out after one drink. The bartender actually recommended another bar in the area to us.
We would have stayed much longer, ordered dinner, had more drinks, the whole nine yards if there had been authentic Irish music playing at the authentic Irish bar. Maybe next time we're in Columbus, we'll stop in and give it another try.
This place single-handedly makes up for the dismal state of the Brewery District.
I was recently in Columbus for a conference at the Sheraton. On two separate nights, I led a group of people to the legendary Brewery District only to find it contains a single brewery, Columbus Brewing Company, and it was closed. The first time we went to World of Beers which was terribly expensive and featured abysmal service. The second time we tried Claddagh. What a relief!
I'm not sure it the beer is $3/pint every night but it was when we were there. There were about 16 beers an draft, mostly European. The bartender was super-friendly and so were the rest of the patrons. There were plenty of TVs but the music was at a pleasant level. The menu looked fantastic but, unfortunately, the kitchen was closed (10pm).
Claddaghs is reason enough to visit the Columbus Brewery District. I don't think there is any other reason.
Came here during Euro cup to watch the games. TVs are a bit weird positioned to be able to watch them confortably, specially at the bar. That is probably my only complaint. Good side, did not have to tell the waiter to put on the game. Good crowd looking to see the soccer match and had jerseys on. I ordered the Scotch eggs that I have a friend from Ireland tried. He and I agreed they were good but he told me there is no such thing in Ireland. Waiter the 1st day, chubby girl was very helpful and nice. Sorry, forgot the name but if the owner reads this, he will know who she is and give her a raise. Overall good experience, will come back again for a pint or to watch a soccer match or both
Review Source:They deserve 2 stars only due to convenience and providing sustainability. Carry out is never as good as to dining at the spot....the fish n chips were just ok. It was one big piece of fish and the fries were not cooked thoroughly. The tartar sauce was good, but how does one mess up tarter sauce? Our cheeseburger was fine w a side charcoal taste. We also got a side of mac n cheese, more like mac and cream sauce.
If I do try it again, I will def have to dine in.
Came here last night (a Friday) for Happy Hour because I was craving cheap fried stuff. Hey, that happens. We'd been to this location for an Elite event and decided we wanted to try some more of the food.
We ordered stuffed mushroom caps, a basket of wings, a basket of onion rings, and some fried shrimp. Our waitress seemed to think we were a little ambitious, and I understood when the onion rings came. They were the size of my hand with my fingers outstretched, and we had a basket full of them. We still finished almost everything - the dipping sauce that came with the wings was particularly noteworthy. Then I ordered a Galway hooker for dessert (that's a food, pervert). It's creme brulee and flourless chocolate cake. It's heaven. It is everything life is about. I have attached a photo for reference.
My boyfriend and I were seated at a round table with high chairs, next to a table of rowdy screaming people. We were a little too far away from each other to speak at all for the first half hour, which is why I subtracted a star. Also, our waitress never took our menus...so we ate on top of them, Waffle House-style.
BOGO burgers and $3 drafts on Tuesday? Count me in! Their burgers are big, tasty, and cooked to perfection and come with some great potato wedges! Just to be clear though(I got confused) the burgers are BOGO, not the drafts. I definitely prefer this location. It's just so much smaller and more intimate, plus it's just a 20min bike ride instead of a 30 minute drive. Service was great, food was great, price was great, and the ambience was perfect. I had a great time!
Review Source:This is a very nice looking restaurant, with dark wood everwhere. Â I was able to park right in front of the front door and thank goodness for the new meters.
I ordered corned beef and cabbage but the order I received was not what I was expecting. Â I expected to get a large piece of cabbage covered with a few slices of corned beef. Â I think this is what most people would expect. Â Instead I received a "bowl" of sorts of corned beef and there really wasn't much cabbage to be found. Â Instead I got a serving of undercooked carrots. Â Clearly the chef is doing some experimenting here and I didn't care for it. Â It was edible but just barely.
I've not been around a whole lot of Irish foods or pubs. I first came here a week ago for a Yelp Elite event. I was so overwhelmed by the friendliness and and attention of the staff, I HAD to come back! If the appetizers tasted that good....I was definitely interested in checking out the rest of the place!
I first started out with the artichoke spinach dip (as I'd tasted at the elite event). As always....amazing! Then I had a french onion soup (which wasn't called "french")...but same idea. Delicious! For my main course, I got the corn beef and cabbage. It was pretty tasty! A bit heavier on the butter than anticipated...but good. I would probably try something else the next time I go, Â (fish & chips)...but wanted to get that as it is a traditional Irish dish.
This is a cool place! There is a good selection of beers on tap for all you beer drinkers, along with a full bar. Very cozy atmosphere. I was seated at a table right next to a fireplace....which made my cheeks nice n' warm!! I could've curled up and taken a nap if I thought no one would look at me funny.
Overall experience, Excellent! Can't wait to go back!
I work at the courthouse & don't often get out for lunch, so I've been trying to get to Claddagh's for lunch for a while now. Â Claddagh's is a good place for a lunch meeting. Â I honestly expected more patrons, but was glad that we were one of few in the restaurant. Â Our food was delivered quickly and service was fine. Â My one complaint is the flatbread. Â I expected my flatbread to be much smaller and definitely crispy. Â Instead, my flatbread was as large as the plate and somewhat soggy in the middle, making it impossible to pick up and eat. Â The flatbread tasted good, but the crust was so thin and soggy that I won't be ordering it again.
Review Source:A little bit of Ireland right here in good old Columbus, Ohio!
I have been to Claddagh several times recently and have always been very happy with the service and the food. Recently, a friend and I came and had several drinks at the bar and Stacy, the bartender took excellent care of us. Not once did we have to go looking for her as she kept us stocked in our favorite beverages.
We had been in recently for dinner and the food is always exactly as I expect it. I have a real place in my heart for the Shepherd's Pie . My old Irish great grandmother used to make it and I always think of her when I eat it here as the taste is spot on.
A friend had the bacon and cabbage so I ventured a taste. I was blown away. It was extremely good and I could just feel the pounds pouring on. My next visit, I ended up ordering this delightful dish and almost have given up on the shepherd's pie.
Management here is authentic and very accommodating. In all, the experiences that I have had at this restaurant have been wonderful. makes me long for the "Emerald Isles" but I'm thankful for a wonderful taste of Ireland here in my backyard!
Came here for a late lunch after church on a Sunday... I know right!!....
I had been here before for an event, but I wanted to come back and actually experience the place without a big event crowd.
VERY nice and relaxing place for a very good Sunday lunch!!!
It was cold and a little snowy outside, so I wanted something warm to drink... so I ordered the Hot Apple Cider.... well to my surprise (a pleasant one) there was a little treat in the cider... a little extra bit of warmth... Definitely a shot of something, but it was so smooth it was barely detectable... Perfect for a Sunday after church... LOL!!!
We sat by a very nice fireplace (there are three in the place) which added to the ambiance.
The menu has a huge selection... most is great traditional Irish fare. Â
We had the Spinach Artichoke Dip as an appetizer, then I had the soup of the day which was butternut squash with a hint of curry... OH MY SOOOOOO TASTY... would have loved a huge bowl of the stuff instead of just the cup...
For my entree I had the stuffed chicken breast  (spinach, mushroom, and something else) with mashed potatoes and carrots.  I thought it was oh soooooo tasty!!!!
They do have a very large beer selection!! Â However, it is a little pricey to me... a friend had a pint of a seasonal Samuel Adams and it was $8.50. Â As for the food, I thought it was very reasonable for the quality of what you got.
And of course the service was great!!!!
I highly recommend a trip here for an awesome meal, in some great surroundings. Â You won't be disappointed!!
Good comfort food. The bacon and cabbage features the most unassuming name for what is likely the most delicious thing on the menu. Sunday nights are great if you like to tap your feet to a fine session of jigs and reels. One of my favorite Columbus restaurants.
Also impressive was the reassurance we got from the manager after informing our server of my son's food allergies. She came out and spoke to us personally about their attention to keeping nut ingredients away from the rest of the food. This is definitely a place to bring someone with a nut allergy due to the staff's diligence.
I went with a buddy of mine and met up with another for the Sunday Irish Traditional Session Night last night, and it was an awesome experience. Drew, the bartender, provided friendly and thoughtful service, bringing us Black Velvetteens, kettle chips, and an order of Fish N Chips. The musicians were all very good and never stopped playing. They even played a request of mine, "Martin Wynne's #2" and "...#1". The only missing elements were some dancers, a guitar or bouzouki, and a warm fire, maybe. I would definitely like to come back for a visit -- maybe next Sunday.
Review Source:I'm lucky that I live a block away from Claddagh, or I probably wouldn't be coming here. But the staff is friendly, the happy hours are cheap and good, and you can usually find a spot on the patio (which is rare in this town). It's a great place to watch a Crew game, and the ONLY place to watch the World Cup. Plus, best fish & chips in town!
Review Source:First - its hard to park here since the bar doesn't offer any kind of parking. Ever since Columbus started their meters until 10pm I've been even MORE reluctant to head downtown. Good grief even the meters in Cambridge run out at 6. Plus, if Columbus is going to insist on meters they need to make them credit / debit friendly. Who carries cash anymore?
After FINALLY getting a parking spot (and breaking change at the Kroger) we put money in the meter.... which was broken. Perfect.
We head inside to a not-at-all packed house. Everyone had a seat at the bar, and tables were filled with large groups. It was hardly busy, maybe 25 people in the place. Table for 2? 45 minute wait.
I repeat: a 45 minute wait. Are you kidding me? For what?!?! We decided the leave. The hostess was nonplussed.
We left and are never coming back. I also agree that the brewery district has some work to do. Every corner is a parking garage (that is closed after 6 pm). I like the atmosphere of being in / around all of the old buildings, but its a ghost town. But, you still have to wait 45 minutes for a table.
I went with Suzette and Nathan to enjoy Monday Fish and Chips Night. It would have been better if Nathan had brought someone, but the waitress was really kind and said that she would put in an extra order since it would be free anyway..... Monday Fish and Chips night is buy one, get one free. Cost $13,50.
The "chips" are great with a little seasoning on them. the Fish was a nice cod piece that was very flaky with a crunchy batter, fried to perfection.
The biggest disappointment is the cole slaw, which seems to be the theme of my YELP reviews since I had a similar problem with Tip Top Kitchen.
All in all, it was a nice enjoyable meal, great atmosphere - not to mention that Claddagh's has really good lighting.....I certainly will be back there next Monday!
Let me preface this review with the fact that at age 16, I spent a year in Cork, Ireland (home of Beamish, Murphy's, and really hot school girls at Christ King Secondary - represent!). Let me also preface this review with the fact that while the drinking age in Ireland is 18, I never got carded and always drank in pubs (hey, I started early - at 13 I was dipping into gramma's peach Schnapps and scoring Newcastles at house parties;).
Okay. this is an AMERICANIZED Irish pub. It is not, repeat, NOT AUTHENTIC. This fact is neither bad nor good, it's just the truth. The people saying this place is authentic clearly have never been to Ireland. It is not a rich country, so pubs are not, on the whole, fancy. This is what middle class American people think pubs should be, or what pubs in Dublin/Cork/Limerick are like that cater to foreigners.
That being said as well, I did have a good time here last night. I was posting on fb about how the only Christmas song I can tolerate is "Fairytale of New York" by the Pogues, and suddenly NEEDED a pint of Irish stout immediately. I was tempted to go to Byrnes, but Yelp us all, it's in my best interest to try something new. I didn't want to go to Claddagh because there are multiple locations, and I'm not a fan of the chain-anything... but I looked at the pictures, and my friend convinced me that he and some of our other friends go to Claddagh pre-Crew games and that it's cool. And okay, it's fine.
There was live Irish music, along with some very ambitious young man who took it upon himself to accost the band and see if he could dance while they played. The crowd here is over-40, and there are lots of bored looking middle class people who, god love 'em, I can't figure out why the hell they bother to be out if they're just going to look bored (loved the wife who rolled her eyes with every shot of Jameson her husband her did - sounds typically Irish, but actually typical Irish wives are working or at Mass or keeping house while they're husbands are at the pub). But, there were also a lot of people who were really enthusiastic about the food and the music at Claddagh. Just... not the most raucous or interesting crowd ever. And for the life of me I couldn't figure out why American football was on the TV when I came in. Talk about cross cultural buzzkill.
I've heard the food is amazing. My friend got the artichoke (?) dip, which seemed fine but I just drank 3 Murphy's (Cork represent!) and a Smithwicks (NOTE it's prounounce Smiddick's - I get so repulsed when people call it Smith wicks...eee), and was quite satisfied. The nice older gentlemen sitting next to me (and his TWO lady friends - you go, older gentleman!) offered us his pub fries because he couldn't finish them, which was sweet and generous, but we didn't take them. Apparently they were good because he ended up taking them to go.
A note on real ("authentic") Irish pubs: they're usually dark and dirty and more than likely in a basement or thatched house. There are NOT signs everywhere that say "Craic" and "Jameson" and "Erin go Bragh"(although I totally forgot about the gaelge word "craic," which means "fun"... so I was excited to see it written on the wall).
Of course, Boston and New England in general have some really great "authentic" Irish pubs, including a pub in Portland that was literally physically transplanted from Ireland (Ri Ra), but I've yet to see any in the Midwest. If I find one, I'll let you know. For now, I insist that Byrne's, with it's football scarves everywhere and it's dingy, rowdy atmosphere, is more like any pub in Ireland that I've been to... and Claddagh is not.
PS: Claddagh was also EXTREMELY well lit, which is a huge pet peeve of mine. I am wondering if this was because it was Sunday, and the baby Jesus probably didn't want me bein' a drrrunk anyway.
I am always a fan of a place that tells you what's on special right off the bat. And especially when that special isn't Miller Lite but delicious Smithwicks. Location isn't super great unless you want to go drink before/after grocery shopping (which sometimes I do). Â
I went on Thursday night and they had some of the best live music I have heard in a long time. Â Great music selection, great guitar playing, and great singing. Â The best part was it was the right volume. Â You could still carry on a conversation.
They have a nice bar area and then private booth areas for dinner as well. I was happy with the food and would agree with a previous review of it being above average for bar food.
Went here to watch the Columbus Crew game, and enjoyed ourselves.
The Good:
* Our hostess saw our Crew jerseys and made sure we were seated close to one of the flat screens with the game on.
* The beer selection on tap is great, not just the standard Guinness and Harp that most Irish pubs have.
* The food, while a bit heavy, was very tasty.
The not so good:
* I'm not sure if our server had too many tables, but there were times I was waiting way too long for another beer.
Went to Claddaugh last night for dinner with some friends. Didn't have a great experience. The service was absolutely terrible. Our waiter often forgot requests and barely ever checked on us.
I was a little confused by the menu. It's an Irish bar, right? Then why is there traditional English food on the menu? In general, the food was not memorable.
Ehh.
Good beer. Food is above average for a pub. I agree with the soup being real good. And soccer is always on the tv.
I've been there twice already. Soup was great both times, Shepard's Pie was better than the Ribs and Caesar Salad was good.
The clientele seemed to all be in the 30+ year old range. So maybe the college kid comment was specific to the world cup.
Still on the search to finding an authentic pub experience in the States. Â Claddagh is nice, but it certainly doesn't fit my expectations. Â
I usually meet a friend here for lunch as she works close by, but this seems like an odd location for anything other than that. Â
I've tried several items on the menu and have found them to be pretty heavy and I've always taken part of it home. Â I've never done any drinking here as its usually in the middle of the afternoon and I'll be driving.
I find the version of Irish food served here to be very heavy. If you are looking for something small / not fried / not meat to nibble on, this is not the place. I ordered the shrimp cocktail: It was kind of terrible. The shrimp were drowning in a strange pink sauce and tasted like they had just come from a deep freeze.
I guess I should know better but it was the only appetizer on the menu that was not fried or meaty. I would probably (hopefully) write a better review of the food had I come here hungry and ordered something off the very extensive menu. Food gets 2 stars for now.
Onto the drinks -- drinks get 5 stars so everything evens out. I have no idea how much anything costs so I am not commenting on that. So the mixed beers? Amazing. I cannot get enough of the Snake Bite. Harp & Cider mixed together is something like a champage-y beer (not High Life, mind you) not unlike Strongbow, but better. The Guiness & Cider is also a delight.
This place always surprises me! My father is a brit so I've been to many americanized pubs.
Claddagh has an excellent selection of tap beer and winter coffee drinks. The menu is simple and everything comes out fresh and quickly from the kitchen my faves:
1. Soup! Try the special for the day, I dig the potato or creamy tomato.
2. Monte Cristo with extra jelly
3. ANYTHING on St. Patty's Day weekend. The place will be lively and always features a great band, start making plans to go today.
