    Love you Rhonda.

    You're the best

A Club Called Rhonda has something that a lot of clubs wish they had: a unique atmosphere and great music.  Anywhere Rhonda sets up their party, you know its going to be a way different vibe then how the venue is usually.

Rhonda is where people go to absolutely let loose. This is not your top-40 playing, bro'd out club.  A major difference between Rhonda and your typical club is the individuality of the party and people attending. The party itself steps out of the norm and breaks through peoples comfort zones. The polysexual, diverse regulars show up in whatever scantily clad outfit their heart desires. There is a wide variety of music ranging from deep house, disco, new disco, and  acid house.

I saw some poor reviews based on getting into the club and think that is a pretty silly way to rate a crackin' place. Most people that rate poorly based on "getting in" don't understand how Rhonda works. People come for the MUSIC, if there is a good Dj playing, you just need to get there early or you are going to have a hell of a hard time getting in (trust me, I've learned from experience.) I also believe that knowing the door person, Phylis, (love love love) is a plus. I mean if you go to every single Rhonda event and support their party, why should you not get in cheaper?

In my opinion this is one of the best parties of LA. I think its definitely worth checking out. Rhonda may not be for everyone but its something to give a chance.

Potentially a blast, but it didn't deliver.  I've been reading great stuff about this club, including an interesting interview with the founders that made it sound like the best club ever, but maybe Friday the 8th was an off night.

The best part about the club is the people.  Diverse crowd, fun and all good vibes, polysexual and open, creative style, great, expressive dancing.  I wasn't in a mingling mood but a couple of my guy friends seemed able to meet and chat casually and friendly with people they didn't know.  Also, I noticed no creepy guys approaching me or other women to dance.  Girls were able to get really sexy on the dance floor without getting groped or cornered, so hooray for that.

Website/blog really pushes having a strong "look", and the website photos really highlight the best looks.  In reality, it's more college girls in uncreative Forever 21 than I would have expected.

Cover charge seems inconsistent.  I see a review that says it's $10, but last night was $15 each because we came after the early bird special or whatever.  Bartender didn't know what St. Germain was, and when she told me they didn't have any I had to point it out to her on the shelf.  Cocktail was $12 and very small and weak.

At this particular location, the cigarette smoke from the upstairs patio carried strongly into the dancing area.  No fun for a non-smoker like me to get my heart rate up on the dance floor while.

Last and perhaps least, the music.  The blog pumped up the guest dj as old school and rad.  I appreciate that he was spinning vinyl, but maybe I'm just over techno.  However, a friend of mine who dj's electronic said he also found the music lackluster. We just couldn't get into it.  The worst part was, on at least three separate occasions, a track on a record skipped and the dj let it continue to skip and failed to make a smooth transition into another track.  Several times, the music straight up STOPPED in between songs.  Dj was definitely not worth a $15 cover.

I'd try again, but with no expectations.

They definitely do like to play favorites here. 10:15pm and the cover is $10 if you don't make it before 10:00pm with RSVP. The two people ahead of me only paid $5 for both. Definitely not cool.

The drinks are WAY overpriced and NOT at all strong. All the bartenders are extremely light handed and amp your drink up with mixers. You can't even taste anything in there.

I don't know what happened to this place, but the music has definitely gone downhill. Plus there seems to be a number of people rolling. People still do e?

Rhonda used to be so much fun. Never again.

    DANCE! DANCE! DANCE!

I come here on their Friday nights when they have a DJ that I love play here. Music played here is house, new disco, 80s, electro. No wallflowers at this joint - everyone is getting their dance on. I know you want to look cute, but leave the heels at home unless you got the feet of a horse.

Free before 10pm if you RSVP, $15 after.

Turned out to be a fun night with a friendly eclectic crowd who were just out to D-A-N-C-E! Yes the bar situation was a little ridiculous (just hire some more bartenders, people!) and the prices were typically LA-high but if your goal was to shake some booty, consider the goal met. My friend and I had a great time shaking it with the drag queens, rave cholos, hipster kids, and just regular old folks like ourselves. The place is quite spacious and cool--I wouldn't mind another date with Rhonda some time.

I haven't been to A Club Called Rhonda since the first couple of nights they threw and quite frankly I was disappointed with my return back.

-If you don't make it in before 10 it's a $15 cover charge.

-I just wanted a quick redbull from the bar only to find out there's a $25 credit card
limit and ummm I didn't really want $25 worth of redbull and I certainly wasn't going to try and juggle drinks back to my friends to make the minimum.

-The club crowd now seems to ALL be on crazy weird drugs. Doing drugs is your own business and I could careless but when you're tripping out next to me and acting a fool is when it becomes a problem.

-aaaaaaaaaaaaand the music isn't that great anymore but if you're tripping out on whatever it is you are on I suppose it probably sounds amazing.

what once was a 5 star fun event is just now a one star and I don't plan to ever return.

The music is phenomenal and the crowd is interesting and fun. The ONE HOUR WAIT to get in was followed by a 30 minute wait to get a drink. A great party but not worth the waiting.

I'm hesitant to admit, proud to secretly be, and disgusted with hipsters who don't dance!

I've been to Ecoplex, El Ray, Spaceland and seen bands that MAKE you dance (i.e. Hercules and Love Affair). Although, much to my dismay these hipsters wouldn't budge for all the vintage items you could offer them.

But for some fantastic reason EVERYONE dances when Rhonda is in town and I LOVE IT!!

Yes, the crowd is diverse and offers hours & hours of pure people watching and commenting while you get your drink on or muster enough courage to ask the 65 year-old tranny what exactly he is doing here, since he isn't dancing.

Simply put, if you want to disco your night away with the most diverse crowd LA has to offer this is the place for you.

Rhonda, if you were the 65 year-old tranny I'd still love you just as much!

Ok...we didn't stay late so perhaps things get better but this place was an absolute mess.  The bars were seriously understaffed and being the cheap gent I am we came for the open bar which was to last till 1030pm.  They closed the open bar at 958pm.  The drinks were expensive, even by LA standards (I'm basing this on size and quality).  It took us 20 minutes to get our first drinks, 15 for our seconds, 30 minutes to close our tab, and add another 10 to get our card because they couldn't find it.  So we spent a good deal of our night waiting and getting pushed around as the place got more crowded.  We then got to wait even longer for our car because people were continuing to arrive while an unhappy bunch started to build to get their cars and leave.

The crowd was interesting as stated in other reviews.  The music wasn't my cup of tea.

Went last night at El Cid, and I have to say I really enjoyed it. Not an environment for everyone, however I myself could not get enough of the personalities and beautiful people. Played disco all throughout the night, which I didn't really mind, but wished they would have played something with a little more bass and beat to it. Regardless, Rhonda is now on my list of must.

Paradise Garage 2.0 in the making?....

Vodka + Redbull = $10 bucks and it was stiff.

I've only been once (to Juan MacLean's appearance in June), but in his words, Rhonda "is perhaps the greatest night in existence right now." I don't know about that, mostly because I just turned 21 this year, but it is pretty out of hand. The DJs are first-rate and adhere to a certain sensibility that the Rhonda peeps seem very careful not to betray, a kind of gay house/ancient Roman debauchery/saucy crazy '80s vibe. With an emphasis on the gay.

Bearing that in mind, the crowd might be the best reason to come to this party. The clothes are over the top, and the people are a good sampling of area hipsters and LA's queer population. Straight-laced hipsters can come to get low with vogueing queens and adventurous yuppies, and El Cid provides a refreshing alternative to over-the-top West Hollywood clubs. The whole place is inevitably packed, but there's a decent sized patio and two or three bars to help you forget where you are. The Jack Daniel's cocktail I had was $8... I don't remember how much beers cost.

Rhonda is an alternative to the alternative--a really creative party with a forward and backward-thinking aesthetic, the most interesting crowd you could ever hope to find in one place, pitch-perfect booking and an absolutely exciting experience. Rhonda is one of the reasons why LA isn't New York, and shouldn't try to be.

There are moments when the music is insanely good, then times when I just don't understand. Those confusing moments are the most perfect time to go outside and get some air while meeting the most interesting people in all of Los Angeles. So fun, you'll actually find people from all over the world who come to this Silverlake party.

While not really a gay party per se, it's hella gay and so much fun. This is not West Hollywood, so show up in bright orange Abercrombie shirt (as I witnessed one unfortunate soul do) and you'll be the freak everyone looks at while descending down the stairs to get in the place. The more out of this world you dress, the better!

Anyways, hard to describe in words... jussst go! Oh, and go prepared... make sure you're on the guest list. Don't say I didn't tell you so.

You have to check the website to see what Rhonda is up to...
She was in Guatalinda for awhile, now she is at El Cid. She was weekly, then a special event, and now a monthly... for now. She's a VGL Versatile Girl.

Dance your ass off to an array of DJ guest from the UK, MEXICO, CANADA and ALL OVER STATES.
