Let me jump right in and say that I was sold the first time I set foot on this place. Â So, it looks like a pub with a bar area, a few tables, and a video game deep in the corner of the place but the servers were rather friendly. Â The first impression I got when the bartender came to take the order was that it seemed as though he treats his costumers like they're all regulars (and granted, some might be). Â But services like that are hard to find anymore, especially when you come to new places and they know they haven't seen you there yet. Â
So, the pizza. Â I had the Art Hill (thin sliced meatballs coveed in red sauce, basil, green pepper, ricotta cheese, and parmesan cheese) because it sounded really good. Â Was not disappointed at all. Â It was so delicious, flavorful, and the ingredients tasted really fresh. Â I stayed for another glass of wine after dinner just because the atmosphere was nice.
Overall, this place gets a 5-star from me because of great food, great service, and great atmosphere! I can't wait to come back...
New to the neighborhood, we gave Felix's a try for quick pizza dinner. Â Pizza was good, service was good. Â We did feel like newbies, but we weren't heckled or anything like that. Â Would recommend buying pizza by the slice--the slices are huge and you can get them with any topping you'd like.
Review Source:AMAZING PIZZA!!!! Great food at a wonderful price!! As for cocktails, I suggest the chocolate martini...they are to die for! This is one of my favorite hang out spots in STL. The staff is always friendly. They have different events throughout the week including trivia night and karaoke!
Review Source:I've been twice in the last week, thanks to Groupons. Both visits were for lunch.
#1 visit: dining partner was seated when I arrived, and she'd ordered that fabulous hummus:topped with kalamata olives and served with warm pita triangles and generous red pepper pieces ($5.95). That stuff is just wonderful and beautifully spiced. I favor the red pepper pieces for dipping.
We shared a small HighPoint pizza: Â artichoke, spinach, sundried tomato, feta cheese, red onion and pepperoncini ($17.50). It was delicious. For a small, it wasn't small at all, and we had two pieces left over.
She took the hummus home. I took the pizza home.
All Felix's pizzas are made with Mozzarella.
#2 visit: We both got the Big Berthold sandwich (choice of slaw or tator babies [yes, that's what they're called]; we both opted for the slaw): smoked pulled pork, Felix's spicy slaw and drizzled with Felix's BBQ sauce ($7.95).
The slaw WAS spicy, but tamed when I ate it with one of the baby spinach leaves it was served on.
THEN it was even better when I put it (including the other little baby spinach leaves) on the sandwich. What a delicious blend of slaw crunch, great-tasting smoky pulled pork and a little barbeque sauce, which was sweet.
This is not a sandwich I've ever had before, so I was pretty amazed at the taste factor and the lovely blend of flavors.
All their sandwiches are made with bread from Vitale's bakery on The HIll.
I did, of course, ditch the bread. And even with that, had a to-go vessel of half my sandwich.
We had wonderfully attentive service on both these visits. On the second visit, which was Saturday, the place filled up pretty quickly, and we arrived a little after noon.
Stopped in here one night to meet up with my girlfriend before she had a late meeting.
Two great things to point out. Strongbow and the Pizza.
First of all it's a nice little bar, I didn't look around too much, but sat at the bar. They have some game machine in the back, and plenty of seating if you don't want to be at the bar.
First, they had Strongbow, which a lot of bars don't carry, one of my favorite beers. The bartenders are fast and friendly. As we sat and talked for about 2 hours, they always made sure we were taken care of and provided me with a smile when I changed my minded a few times.
Second, since it was getting a bit late, and I was getting a bit hungry, I saw they had a offer for a slice of pizza and a beer for just a few bucks (don't remember the exact amount, but it was cheap). Thinking I would just get a cheap slice of pizza, I just wanted something to fill up my hunger. I have to say, it's really one of the best slices of pizza I have had in a long time. I've been to Pi, Dewey's, Peel, and several other places that have good pizza, and I have to say, with the exception of Peel, this seriously ranked. It's fantastic. Not fantastic for "bar pizza", but for pizza in general.
Will be returning in the future!
Just had some pizza by the slice and garlic cheese bread from Felix's here are my thoughts
1) the dude who took the order was friendly
2) decent inside not dirty
3) the garlic cheese bread was alittle dry not terrible or unedible and the marinara sauce it comes with was good the bread just didn't taste super fresh but Im picky.
4) The pizza is sold in full pizza sizes or by the slice, I had a cheese slice and a slice of the BBQ , ham, pineapple...both were very different but in good ways and the slices are New York style so they were huge for 2.99 a slice thats pretty decent. The flavor was really good for both as well just the right amount of sauce and ingredients to enhance not over power very tasty
I would eat here again just wouldn't get 2 slices one is plenty for me lol
Although I've visited before and had great meals, it seems the dining room has been converted into a second bar. Â I don't blame them. Â Alcohol is way more profitable than food. Â And if you can fill up two bars, more power to ya. Â
This is a dogtowners watering hole. Â I think 80% of the people in the place were regulars. Â Which made for a great time while cheering on the Cardinals. Â The place was crowded but that was what I was looking for. Â
I didn't eat while I was here, but I hope they kept the same high quality food that they had before. Â Just don't come here looking for that restaurant feel.
Felix's isn't a revelation when it comes to bars in town, but here is what works:
1. The pizza is fantastic and the prices are great.
2. They have a great selection of beers and liquor.
3. On Monday nights, they have karaoke in the non-smoking side of the bar and it's a dang good time. The DJ is great about keeping the music going and making sure everyone is having fun.
The only downside is that some of the bartenders have what I call "grumpy face" on occasion. But if you're looking for a place to have a beer at a good price, check it out. You may end up being a regular before you know it.
Pros and Cons to this place. Â
Pro's: The pizza is very tasty and uniquely flavored.
The guys that work there are very nice and friendly.
The appitizers are very good as well.
Con's: Beer selection leaves a lot to be desired, especially on draught.
You have to eat on paper plates, rather than real plates.  I find that very annoying.
Kind of expensive for pizza.  Not quite as expensive as Pi, but still spendy.
Last time I went the beer was flat as it gets, and they kept serving it.
Female bartender acted like she had a pineapple up her butt.  Very unfriendly!
Overall: When I am in the mood for a different kind of pizza, Felix's will get the nod.
Ohhhh my gosh. Yes. The pizza is good.
I ordered a slice of the Franz Park, and was amazed when it came out. It was a HUGE slice, topped with ricotta cheese, red sauce, garlic olive oil, basil, and sliced tomatoes. Everything tasted fresh, and the crust (my favorite part) was crispy, flavorful, and I didn't even feel bad when I ate all of it.
I drank a glass of some of the best chardonnay I've ever had, and the bartender turned off the music and turned on the sound of the Cards game for me. I sat at a high-top table and worked while watching the entire game, and it was seriously the nicest afternoon. Can't wait to go back and try more of the pizza!
Really nice people running this place. My only complaint was that it was really warm in there, but then again, when it's triple digits outside it's going to happen. I will be back at Felix's very soon!
We went to Felix's for lunch not too long ago as my boyfriend likes to try new places. Â The place wasn't bad for a lunch time atmosphere and the bartender/server was great. Â The menu is small and I didn't try the pizza but rather the wings. Â I love wings and will try them in different places to compare and I will say that Felix's was outstanding!!! Â The garlic parmesan that they used on them came through with each tender bite. Â I was amazed and if nothing else would go back for them. Â Big thumbs up!
Review Source:As a Dogtown resident I've been visiting Felix's somewhat regularly for the past several years. Â I've seen it go through a few different iterations as ownership changed hands, and in it's current state it's a pretty great, cozy little spot. Â I don't know when exactly they began to focus more on pizza, but we tried the "Pint and a Slice" deal the other night and it was outstanding. Â Great deal, and wow are their slices BIG. Â We went for the Blues playoff game and they had the broadcast on in stereo, which is key for a sports fan.
Felix's used to have the bar up front, and then a back room for dining and the occasional live band. Â Now they've turned their back room into a second bar, which I believe separates the smokers from the non-smokers. Â This was clearly a good business move as both usually seem to be comfortably full. Â Service always seems to be friendly too.
This place used to have good bar food but the menu was pretty typical. Recently, however, they've converted their kitchen over to a hand tossed pizza place, and wow. This pizza is goood. The crust is just about perfect, crispy crust, but nice and chewy on the inside. The slice and a pint is a fantastic deal (I think it was about 5.95) , especially since the slice is practically too big for the plate and the pint is a Schlafly. Last time I was there I got a slice with pineapple and caramelized onion and just on a whim asked them to drizzle it with a little of their popular bbq sauce. It blew my mind. The sauce was perfectly smoky but not overly sweet, even with the pineapple it was the perfect balance. I've always sat at the bar and had great service, especially from the bartender John. Definitely give this place a try if you're a pizza nut.
Review Source:Okay, I must admit that we picked Felix's only because we intended on going to Nora's, but it's closed for repairs of some sort, so instead of driving to find something quick for lunch, we walked next door to Felix's. The staff there was quick and helpful. It is a neighborhood bar, which I think those are the coolest places around. I must admit that I expected a longer list of choices, but pizza and wings would have been good choices for what we craved at that moment. We ordered a bacon, sausage, and pepperoni pizza and it was good. My boyfriend had a salad before eating his pizza and he said it was good. I liked the type of bacon that they put on the pizza; not just crumbled up bacon bits, but actual slices. COOL!
They had two televisions (I believe) or three, which I watched the basketball game. I can't tell you how good their drinks are because we had tea/soda. But all in all it was okay and I would go back should I be in the area again.
Few choices in life are simple, but you must make an immediate decision when you enter the doors of Felix's: Â do you want to sit in the smoking or non-smoking section? Â Sure, scientists say that there are benefits to a smoke-free environment, but unlike Bill Clinton, I choose to inhale, as it is a cheap way of absorbing low levels of nicotine and other carcinogens.
To balance the effect of this second-hand stimulant, I like to drink alcohol for its calming effect and its ability to cure clear thinking and good decision making. Â Thankfully, they have a good beer selection and quick service.
Their pizza is also above par: I ordered one with pepperoni, mushroom, and jalapeno, and to my surprise, the jalapenos were fresh, not canned! Â This is an indication that the proprietors care about quality and fresh ingredients.
I have location blindness, a condition in which I am unable determine my geo-position without the aid of map. Â I am told that this restaurant is in the Dogtown neighborhood, and I will take their world for it, as the picture above one of the dining tables shows dogs drinking at a bar. Â
In sum: good pizza, good beer. Â What more can you ask for?
Felix's is a twenty/ thirty something Dogtown neighborhood bar that I visit whenever I'm in the area. The bar is small and is divided into two sides. Â One side is non smoking and the smaller side is smoking. Â The smoky side is ridiculously smoky and sometimes this drifts over to the non smoking side. Â I prefer the nonsmoking side, when it is staffed.
Some of my favorite bartenders don't work there any more, but Steve the owner is always bending over backwards to support non profit groups in a variety of ways. Â So, I find my way into one of my favorite Dogtown bars and always manage to have a good time.
One of my favorite recent discoveries, Felix's is a great place to get your drink on. Â Swing by after work and pick up your "Pizza and a Pint" deal -- for somewhere under $7.00, you can get a whole-pizza-sized slice of pizza plus a Schlafly pint, which should keep you busy for a good hour or so. Â Then you can move on to the reasonably friendly service and more food and drinks that'll surely follow.
There's always an interesting crowd here which is hard to sum up -- local Dogtown residents, college students, and more. Â We've only ever sat in the restaurant section, which gets pretty hoppin' after the dinner hour; from what we've seen, the bar area next door is even more the case.
They advertise a bunch of live music here, but I've never caught any, so it's hard to say whether the gigs here are fun or distracting. Â I'll report in a little later on.
Give it a shot! Â I can tell Felix's is an important cornerstone of the heart of Dogtown. Â That's for a reason.
A smokey neighborhood bar where everyone knows your name, except those of us who do not live in the neighborhood. I didn't mind that the bartender didn't know my name, but at least acknowledge me when I sit down at your bar. He was to involved in the football game on TV. Â Once the game went to a commercial, all was good. Some of us like football and some of us like myself like baseball, so I forgave him.
I asked to see a menu so I could do a carryout order. Brad was craving a French Dip and we had heard their "Stallion" was one of the best. They slow simmer the Italian Beef with peperoncini, crushed red pepper and their special blend of Italian Seasoning. It is then served on garlic French bread with provel cheese. Brad loved it, said it was good comfort food. I was not impressed, I thought the bread was dried out, they were skimpy on the meat and provel cheese. To me the sandwich was mostly bread.
To go with the Stallion we had Felix's Wings. A 1 lb. serving that has been trashed and thrashed with Jalapeno Ranch. Â These wings were great, so great that I will be adding Felix's to my list for Wings. They were large, crispy and seasoned perfectly. What I liked most is that they did not a heavy sauce on them, it was like a dry rub.
You could eat and enjoy with no mess.
After placing my order to go, I asked how long it would take and I was told about 20 minutes. I had a motive in my asking, I saw they had a special for $6.45 that included a slice of pizza and a pint. What a deal. I had a Schafley's Pale Ale and Italian Sausage. The slice was a large slice of the pie and very good. I enjoyed the spicy tomato sauce and there was plenty of sausage and cheese. Who knows, I may be returning to have a couple of pints and a whole pizza pie with a friend.
Only negative, lot of smokers and I was the only one not smoking at the bar.
I thought an updated review was in order. Â This place has made a lot of great improvements since my first time of being there. Â
First and foremost, this is a neighborhood joint. Â That is a compliment, in my opinion. Â Everytime I go in, I see many familiar faces and they're always nice and welcoming. Â I think neighborhood bars are the staple of a good neighborhood and Dogtown is one of the best in St. Louis. Â
Food - Pizza is great and getting better every day. Â Handmade with fresh, local ingredients, it's hard to beat. Â You can get it by the slice or get a whole pie. Â Other food on the menu is pretty good as well. Â I haven't ventured too far, but what I have had was better than average..
Drinks - I love that they have Schlafly on tap. Â I think it says a lot about a bar that supports other local businesses. Â Schlafly makes many great beers and I'm proud to order one every time I'm in here. Â I'm a Guinness drinker on the regular and enjoy a great pint, but I settle for the can here. As far as coctails go, I'm a "caucasian" drinker and have had good experiences with them here.
Service - I've always had pleasant, prompt service. Â On nights when the Cardinals play or other local sporting events are happening, it tends to get really busy, but what's to be expected? Â I happily extend my service time needs to know that this place is being frequented by locals. Â Spend enough time here and you will quickly know many names and then you're just one of the family, so expect to be treated as such. That, too is a good thing.
All-in-all, a cool place to go and hang out. Â The crowd is a mix of college to 40+ Â However, the college is not the annoying college; they're all just good people hanging out and having a good time and a great local place.
Smoking - the palce is divided into two sections, East and West. Â West is non-smoking, East is smoking. Â It seems to work pretty good. Â The division of the building actually keeps the smoke on the smoke side. Â I'm not a smoker, so I appeciate that.
Keep it up.
The food is very tasty - especially the ribs. Â The martinis are great. Â I especially like the basic gin martini (for $7 I believe? Â that night was a little hazy :)
The ambience is a little bit odd. Â The decor comments are right on. Â
The mood is friendly. Â Nice neighborhood bar feel. Â One of the things that is great about this place is that it is one of the few dogtown places that are open on a Sunday!
At the corner of Tamm & Clayton near Latitude 26 and Seamus McDaniels, this place is a cocktail bar first and a dining location second, but I'd have to say it was pretty good.
I probably won't seek out this location due to any particular craving, but if I'm in the neighborhood, I would definitely try them again. Â They have a Sunday special of $5 mango martinis (which sounded good) and $3 nachos, which were quite tasty.
I had the regular cheeseburger, and it was pretty good. Â It came with fries, seasoned with what seemed like pepper and parmesan. Â The fries were tasty but had that peppery spicy-ness to them. Â I definitely wouldn't have added any pepper or salt.
Since they are dubbed a "cocktail bar," I asked how much for a Grey Goose dirty martini, and it was $12, so going with the special of $5 mango martinis would probably be a good value.
We've been going to Felix's since their menu was fine dining. When they changed chefs and added ribs to the menu, we were hooked. I would go as far to say best ribs I've had in St. Louis. With their new renovations to the underutilized other half of the bar we were excited to go back. However, we sat for about ten minutes waiting to order drinks and food. Our table was not clear but no biggie  the bartender came to clear the plates but left us with dirty drinks and a dirty table for about ten minutes until I asked for it to be cleaned and obtained menus  When I went to the bar to get myself a menu, the bartender did not say a word to me. My boyfriend then went to order our food since no one took our order. The owner did stop and talk to the table next to us asking how everything was for them. We didn't get that treatment. He stated to the couple that their concept was laid back and no one would come ask you what you wanted. I understand you want laid back but if I'm paying almost $20 for ribs then wouldn't service be at the top of the list. Isn't that the point of a restaurant anyways?
My boyfriend ordered from the bartender. He asked to order food. She continued on her duties she walked away but told him "you can talk." I know you were busy but geez.
Our food was good however the service has turned us away from ever going there again. For the price we paid for food we should get someone coming to clean of our table without being asked. Hopefully this was a one time thing but we won't be back to find out. If you do give them business order take out or just go for drinks and don't expect customer service.
This is the first time I have been here in years, so it was almost a new place for me. The bartender was swamped and stressed. It took quite a while to get my first beer. Then another guy showed up to help and he was very personable and made sure we were taken care of.
We had a prime location as our table was right in front of the juke box (or whatever they are called these days). We got to see all the interesting peeps as they made their selection, which varied greatly, I might add. From country to OAR to Katy Perry.
There was no dance floor, but that did not stop the crowd from busting a move.
We each ordered Caesar salads and they were what you would expect in a bar. Nothing special, but I could eat it.
The best aspect of this place is the crowd. Â It ranged from college to 40+, but everyone blended well.
I've been here a couple of times without writing a review, and I think that says a lot. Â Both times I've gone to Felix's, it just hasn't been memorable enough for me to want to sit down and spend the time on a review. Â Ouch-- I know that's a little rough to say but...
It's a pretty average little bar--
Nothing to write (Yelp) home about, and the music was pretty blah the night we went.
Probably won't go back unless our friends who live in Dogtown convince us of it.
My girlfriend had planned a girls night out to start at Felix. She heard great things about it and I read up on yelp so we were both looking forward to a good start. Â Well based on reviews and my experience I was like "WTF am I getting punked?" Â What you all experienced wasn't even close to mine. Â It was just a bizarre experience from beginning to end. Â Nothing like what my fellow yelpers praised about. Â Personally, I believe the website is a lil misrepresentative of the actual bar. Â It's a bar not a restaurant. Â Let's get that straight. Â Anyplace that has an actual neon sign in the window that says fine dining needs to for a reason I guess. Â Plus, if it's truly fine dining, it wouldn't have video games in the restaurant area or high tops. Â
Straight up here's the scenario. Â Bar side dark lil dirty looking. Â Restaurant side in remodeling stage. Â Putty all over walls, signs in crayon indicating bathrooms, menu being changed and marked out by hand with you guessed it actual black marker. Â Food is mediocre at best on average. Â Loaded nachos aren't loaded and had cheez whiz on them. Â They weren't hearty nor good. Â Loaded meant cheez wiz w/hint of rotel and lettuce. Â I had to pay extra for any meat. Â My friends liked their pizza very much and said crust was good. Â Be aware the pizza must have been good but it's a 6" pizza. Â Martinis were good too. Â We had the Mango Tango, Chocolate Covered Strawberry, Caramel Apple, & Espresso. Â No complaints on the tini's. Â Very good. Â Kicker, they didn't have Baileys and some other common liquors to make other martini's we wanted to try. Â Who runs out of Baileys? Plus our server. Â Very sweet and very good and following up on all parts of the service. Â Had the experience stopped at here, I would have held up on my review. Â However, there is more...
The band came in and began setting up in the dining area. Â They invaded our space while we were eating. Â Put miles of wires that we could trip on all around our table, had their boxes surrounding our tables, the soundboard was at arm's length and the kicker, I had to keep telling them to move one of the speakers out of the way so that we could maneuver out of our seats. Â The speaker literally was sitting at the head of our table. Â I was just shocked at how inconsiderate they were with their equipment. Â Plus, no one told us or suggested we should dine at the other end of the room to prevent this. Â The band was just not thinking. Â The waitress had to tell them to move whatever we wanted them to move and move it wherever we told them too move it to stress the idea.. Â They didn't take the hint.
I'm sorry to write this but it was just the most bizarre experiences. Â I had way higher expectations. Â Frankly the 2 is just for the martini's and the waitress. Â I'm sorry that I have to give this a bad review. Â I might try it again later. Â Just that I felt the website pics, menu, etc just didn't represent the experience well whatsoever. Â Maybe after the remodel and better handling of their "live music" things will be better. Â Not sure I'd pay a cover here either. Â Bottom line this should be for drinks only. Â If you want a good burger or some bar food walk across to Seamus first. Â I agree with previous review, odd decor feeling. Sorry not the same positive experience.
Just like everyone says about this place, the food is great the atmosphere is a little...well...odd.
I am really not sure who decorated this place, but it almost has a weird blind person/frat house/slacker 30's guy vibe to it. Â It's interesting to say the least, and if you are into strange ambiance, this might just be the place for you. Â
Ambiance aside, the food here is so good. Â The burger is not as good as at Seamus's, but it's still decent. Â I am a fan of the pizza as well. Â The sun dried tomato mashed potatoes are AMAZING. Â I never would have thought to put these two flavors together, but I am so glad someone did and that I got to experience it. Â It's amazing and everyone should eat these things. Â I tried to make them at home and they just weren't half as good.
The drinks are good here as well. Â I like my martini's dirty, and they make them right with tons of extra olive juice and extra olives. Â This is a great hangout for friends at night and there is tons of other stuff nearby, just in case someone in the group doesn't quite dig the very odd vibe of this place. Â Minus one star for sure for a lack of outdoor seating.
Felix's is a strange place with good food. Â There is color everywhere and there is a lot of strange artwork so that it feels a little like walking into a rocker's traveling caravan. Â The bar is long and is often crowded, but there are tables to sit at as well. Â They have a really good cobb salad, and that is my main suggestion as I find it crazy and wonderful that a bar can throw together such a great cobb! Â My next suggestion are the wraps, and it doesn't matter which one you get. Â If you want traditional bar fare, there are pizzas, burgers and toasted ravioli - all of which are tasty. Â So no worries, you're all taken care of. Â Check them out!
Review Source:Update: Â Our latest visit to Felix's was wonderful. Â They were open on Memorial Day- which was perfect for us after a long day of working in the yard and too tired to cook anything. Â We went in, sat on the bar side, played triva with one of the employees, had hummus and pizza. Â It was all fantastic! Â I'm moving my three stars to four!
__________________________________________________Â____
One second I like this place, the next I'm not so sure. Â The food is a little expensive for what you get. Â The drinks are good. Â The decorating and atmosphere is so-so. Â I've had a pizza there that was fantastic, but only big enough for one person. Â And, again, on the pricy side. Â I love the Dogtown location. Â Service is iffy. Â I've had good service here, and I've also had terrible service.
Really 3.5 stars. Yes, the atmosphere is lacking. But strangely the food is good. The part owner/chef used to work at Brio. I have tried an excellent stuffed chicken breast as well as beef - both good. And they have yummy sundried tomato mash potatoes or bleu cheese au gratin potatoes that are both great. Avoid the salad wedge- just a hunk of iceberg!
Although the attempt falls way short of the martini bar it claims to be- its Dogtown and it can't help but be quirky!
