I visited Hard Times Cafe on my first trip to Fairfax, it was awesome. The chili and the burgers combined were delicious. The service was great considering it was made up of college kids just trying to earn a few bucks(I've been there!)

I even took my parents and boyfriend there when they came to visit and they enjoyed it as well!

I'll keep this short and sweet and to the freakin' point:

$6 for 12 wings on Wednesdays.
$2.50 for drafts (Yuengling included!) until 7:30pm.

The wings are small in size but tastes a hell of a lot better than Hooters since they're grilled.

Yammmmmmmmmmmmmmy!

It's a great spot for vegetarians. The Veggie chilli is super tastey and there are a ton of different dishes you can get it on. I tend to go for the Chilli Taters, which are exactly what they sound like. They always have a good selection of beers on tap at a reasonable price. Not really interested in the sports bar scene, so we grab a table downstairs.

If shitty service and mediocre food is your preference, then maybe this place is for you.

So I figure after all the times I've been to this Hard Times location, a Yelp review was due. I've been here for dinner, for happy hour (sometimes both), and just to hang out with friends and play pool. They have an upstairs and downstairs section: upstairs is the bar and pool area while downstairs is the restaurant. If you want a low key evening- go downstairs. Families are welcome downstairs. I know not only because I've dined with families but that one time my group of friends and I were told to 'tone it down" because they were a family dining establishment. Really? Hard Times?

Ok now on to the food. They have good chili. They have 4 options to choose from; I like their Cincinnati Chili. They will bring you samples of all 4 chili's if you've never had them. Along with some tasty cornbread. The cornbread is hit or miss. Sometimes it's good, sometimes it comes out dry. I like their wings specials. I usually get the boneless wings and I believe it's half price on Thursdays. Good Happy Hour prices and the specials vary depending on the day. Hard Times, a good place to wind down after a long day....or watch the game and start your night.

Food is pretty terrible but the atmosphere and beer selection are pretty good. Only giving it a 2 because of how terrible the chili is though at a chili place. Go to Vienna Inn!

I go to Hard Times every year for dinner on my birthday, without fail. I know some chili aficionados from other regions of the country look down on the several different kinds of chili here, but if you come here with little or no preconceived notions, you may be pleasantly surprised. My favorite is the Texas 4-way Chili Mac. Once you get your head around the idea that chili actually goes well with spaghetti noodles, you're well on your way to appreciating it. The burgers are good, as are the nachos, and they even have tater tots.

This particular location has pool and a bar upstairs--obviously where all the kids hang out. It's a pretty big space, the tables seem pretty good. If you just want dinner and maybe a beer while you watch the game, stick to the basement area.

HARD TIMES is, by now, a well established NoVa emporium that has carved out its own special niche: well prepared chili (4 formulations) -- and please don't stray from that strength when you consider their menu. As someone who has frequented this local chain since its first location opened in Alexandria in the 1980s, I have a love/hate thing with them and their funky menu, mixed service, and special offering.

Yep, they can definitely do chili. And to their credit, they offer an adorable little "chili sampler" that lets you try their 4 chili recipes for free. (If it's not offered, then do ask for it -- even if you know what you want. It's always fun to taste the 4 formulas again.)

And as if that weren't enough fun for free, they also bring warm cornbread and butter for you to play with before the main event.

BUT if you stray from their strong point (chili), you're in dangerous territory... Their salads are lackluster, whether topped with salmon or chicken or even chili. They do interesting things with chili (the chili salad -- literally chili spooned atop a tossed salad -- is one of my faves) but the method of preparing their food varies by location. I've had chili salads with big, tri-cornered torilla chips; other times, I've had cute little crispy corn chip slivers. I've also encountered drainage problems: chili salads with water at the bottom. Ick.

Their onion rings are delightfully greasy, but not off the charts. Sometimes I get them just because they are, in a way, really special; the crispy, floury crust is light and special, but the bottom line is GREASY. Then again, don't show me diet onion rings!

As for atmosphere, at this location you'll get college student waitfolks who are usually friendly and well-intentioned. With any luck, you won't be disappointed. The Fairfax location has several small dining rooms, which tends to keep noise to a minimum -- a big plus.

They allowed a 7yr old in but not a 19 yr old. When we asked why that was the case they began to argue and say thats their policy if we dont agree we can take it up with security. Now I have friends who say service is normally better and the staff is usually nice. But in my eyes all I have to say is screw this place.

It is a pretty cool bar that has a very eclectic group of people. You get the townies, the college kids, and then just some randos like myself come in and out of this place. I stopped by here on my day off to play some pool and grab a beer and a burger. Probably one of the chiller bars in the area. The pool is free til 5pm. The burgers are pretty good, and they do have a great selection of beers on tap.

The one thing I like about this place is how cool the bartenders are. They really dont mind starting up a conversation and make you feel sort of at home. Its a cool place.

Im not a smoker, and it doesn't bother me, but also this bar is cut in half for smokers and non smokers. I found that to be a pretty good idea because it opens up a lot of room for more clientele.

It has the regular bar food, so if you are in the mood for that then its a good option in downtown fairfax.

I still have to give credit where credit is due and Hard Times has repeatedly earned its stripes for almost three years now by giving us poor cigar and pipe smokers a place to go when nearly everybody else has abandoned us by the wayside. Not only that, but during the last several months this place has gone out of its way to make several changes when are (by happenstance) quite beneficial to us.

The booze and beer selection has, on the whole, improved immensely this year. With a couple new bottle and draft selections which are a step above the average schlock and a completely renewed bourbon, scotch, and tequila selection this establishment is making steps in the right direction to attract a more discerning clientele.

Speaking of clientele though, avoid this place like the plague on Thursday through Saturday nights if you feel like just hanging out and enjoying a smoke and a decent libation. Between the kids and the noise you'd be better off staying at home. Sunday through Wednesday night though it's a great place to sit back, relax, enjoy a bourbon or rye, and avoid your own kids.

Hard Times has certainly been there for me the last three years since most places went non-smoking and I'll keep giving them my business in return.

Update January 2013: With the apparent closing of John's Place, Hard Times is now (to the best of my knowledge) the ONLY place in Fairfax City where you can smoke a cigar or pipe indoors. While several other places still allow indoor cigarette smoking I know of no others where I can light up.

Update February 2013: In response to some of the odd "queries" of previous reviewers ("didn't they ban smoking in VA") I would like to point out that the VA restaurant smoking ban which went into effect December of 2009 states that you may continue to allow smoking provided that your smoking area is both physically separate with separate ventilation from both the non-smoking area and the kitchen. Given that the kitchen and the non-smoking areas are on an entirely separate level of the building (the non-smoking bar on the upper level is a token non-smoking area) and have separate ventilation the aforementioned requirements are satisfied.

This is a place for smokers! I quit smoking a while ago and even though I hate the smell, I like this place. I sat at the bar, had a few brews and sliders, which were delicious (but I had a good buzz so you can't trust me). Still, the place was packed and I enjoyed the area. Would have enjoyed it 10 times more if I were still a smoker.

My boyfriend and I popped in here for lunch the other day. Ironically enough, neither of us got the chili .....

He ordered the Chicken Alamo spaghetti - instead of your traditional spaghetti sauce, it has a ranch/parmesan sauce on it. I personally didn't like it, but he seemed to enjoy his dish. I ordered the mini chili cheeseburgers. They were OK ... a little flavorless considering that they were topped with chili. The main attraction for me were the french fries. You also get a piece of yummy, buttery cornbread when you sit down.

I probably wouldn't suggest coming to Hard Times for the food alone; however, the prices are easy on the wallet. Next time, I'll have to order the chili and see what all the hype is about.

If you are a college kid and a smoker then this is your spot.

If however, you are neither of these things then avoid this place. Service was fine (the girl was very cute), the food was pretty good, and they had a solid beer selection.

Pros: Plenty of beers, the burger was solid, enough TV's, prices are decently low, and showed UFC with no cover.

Cons: SMOKING inside (Are we in Europe??), the "half pound of wings" was 6 tiny wings, crazy loud, nachos were terrible, stool which are always uncomfortable, and did I mention SMOKING inside???

Of course as a non-smoker this place was terrible for me, so if you smoke then head over here because you will enjoy it...

The service here is great, the people are warm and friendly, the beer is uber cheap and they have Shiner on tap!

The food on the other hand is..uh...not so wonderful. I've tried all the chili's, the chili mac, the nacho's, the wings, etc. The best out of all of em was the wings. My wife has had a salad here before though and she liked it.

Will I be back? Yep, cheap beer, good service is hard to come by in northern VA...I'll just stick to the wings.

Great Food!

I love to come to Hard Times. Years ago they closed their location nearest to me, but still once a month or so I make the drive to Fairfax to have some of the food that I crave. I love the Coney Dogs with either Texas or Cincinnati chili. I have tried and enjoyed every flavor and possible combination of the chili, I like them all. My favorite is the Texas chili, but I do go for the Cincinnati every now and then.

Sometimes the service is a bit off, but I don't care, the food more than makes up for it. WHen that happens I just leave a smaller tip.

I got a bit of the space cadet vibe from our server, but he was really gracious and apologetic and there's a good chance he might have been new.
As for the food, everything I tried was great! I liked the chili sampler (I don't like spicy food, so it's nice to be able to try things out before I commit) and the root beer is absolutely delicious.

Great food and service! We are regulars at the Hard Times Fairfax, especially for their Monday burger specials. Any burger on the menu is just $5.99 all day, and the burgers are always juicy, with charcoal flavor. Service has been consistently very good, with soda refills served without question. The free cornbread is a bit dry, but helps pass time while waiting for the main food.

I've tried the chilli, too, and was very pleased. Texas style is my favorite.

Never had to wait very long for a table or for food . Waiters are consistently friendly, although they sometimes speak too quickly for my strained ears. They are always prompt at attending to our table. Kudos to the HTC!

I've been to quite a few Hard Times in the area and this is my least favorite.

Although I do like how their bar area is set up (huge horseshoe bar with high top tables around it), it's hard to maneuver around when all the seats at the bar are full and people start standing behind the bar stools.

I hate that they allow smoking. Didn't Virginia outlaw this in restaurants?? SO MANY SMOKERS. So gross.

Our waitress was awful. It took so long for her to get to our table to get our order, bring our food and check on us.

I ordered onion rings are they were disgusting. The breading had no flavor (it honestly seems liked they'd just put flour on some onions and fried them for 2 seconds and dumped them on the plate. They were soft and gross. Not one ounce of crispiness at all.

I love going to Hard Times because I hate beer, but they offer my favorite drink - Woodchuck Hard Cider (I like drinking this especially at bars because it looks like a beer and I feel like a fit in, rather then ordering a cocktail and looking snotty). When I tried to order one, I was informed they no longer had Woodchuck and had switched to a new cider. I had 1/2 of a draft and decided it was gross. Switched to cocktails and they were all watered down.

I'd really rather just go to the Springfield or Woodbridge locations. This location just kind of seemed to lack in every way.

Awful Service. It's a shame really. I/My husband used to go there at least once a week. The service was always a little spotty; however, he (my hubby) had a wonderful servicer, Jessica, who managed to take care of his friends and him. Since Jessica has left HTC, the service is AWFUL. I don't get it. Waiting tables isn't rocket science... I was a server for years... trust me. If I managed to do it, anyone can!

This past Wednesday was the last time I will return to this location. Our waitress, needs to consider a new profession. She seemed nice, but well...
-She had to be prompted to take drink orders (for two friends when they joined our party of 6).
-She had be to prompted to provide silverware for salads.
-She had to be reminded to bring drinks to table.
-She forget to put in a wing order--- didn't acknowledge it, and only returned to the table 20+ minutes later to bring the wings. My friend then had to ask her for a box... Ugh. I wonder if she would appreciate her as her server.
-She did not pre-bus/take away used plates. See pic. http://www.yelp.com/biz_…

I kept looking around to see if she was "weeded/swamped"... Didn't seem like it...

Service wise- wing night was a dreadful experience. Halfway through, I just wanted to walk out.
-Did I?
-Noooo... but I really, really wanted to.

-Did I/we complain?
-Noooo... what's the point? Service has steady declined for months. The best we might get are the wings comped- when what I really want(ed) was a waitress that would take drink orders, bring drinks, silverware, take away used plates and at least let us know when she messes up.

People should just go to the Springfield location OR HTC should call Jessica and beg her to come back.

My husband I are regulars at Hard Times because it's our hometown sports bar with a bunch of friendly faces!

The staff is attentive, always giving us refills before we finish our drinks and the food is delicious. Our favorite is the bar nachos with all the fixings and the Elvis burgers (3 sliders with your choice of cheese and a pickle). It's a great twist to the menu...

My husband has to come on Wednesdays for wing night (they have grilled ones too for those who are trying to be on the healthier side)!

Overall, it's our own version of Cheers in Fairfax!

Perfectly adequate chili, cornbread, weekly specials! For example, on Thursdays, many bottle beers are something like $3, and six boneless chicken wings (normal, chili-lime, teriyaki, barbecue, or old bay) are like $1.50.

Note that the upstairs (Rt 123-level) is a loud bar area populated by Mason students, and they will card you immediately if you walk into it from the front or up the stairs inside the back entrance (near the parking lot). Whereas the downstairs (basement) is an actual restaurant where they only card you if you are ordering alcohol, which seems logical.

They have three kinds of chili - the Texas one -- which has NO TOMATOES OR BEANS, it's basically just a bowl of ground beef -- the Cincinnati one, which has an interesting cinnamon flavor to the ground tomatoes and beef, and the the Terlingua, which I like the best. It has bigger chunks of tomato and a more chili-like spice blend, in my opinion. You can get it with cheese and onion on top, beans too, even on top of spaghetti, which I think is a good meal. And it comes with pleasant cornbread.

2nd time coming here and both times I really liked this place! Extremely friendly staff and bartenders, 2 levels, great location, good ventilation system in the smoking area so it isn't all cloudy like some places and its located right by GMU so there's a great college/sports scene if that's your kinda thing. Definitely a fun atmosphere.

Food is so-so thus the 4 stars and not 5. But I guess that would be all Hard Times, not just this location.

Its nice because it is walking distance from my house, and the food is ok. Their service is HORRIBLE!! I called to ask a question and the girl was so rude and then hung up on me! My boyfriend and I later took our friend who was visiting us there and sat on the patio 2 girls went in and out several times and didn't pay any attention to us. One of the girls even walked out stood there, looked around and then just went back in. After 10 minutes we finally left and went to the Auld Shebeen. That was my last straw with this place.

If you are just looking for a bar atmosphere and to play pool than its fine, but if you want any kind of customer service your better off going to the Auld Shebeen down the street.

Although each Hard Times location is slightly different, they all share the same basic menu and dining/bar/games format and generally have management who's responsive. The Fairfax location is loved (and hated) for it's special two level setup with the main bar upstairs, which is where the street entrance opens and where the pool tables and shuffleboard are (play is free through 5pm with $8 purchase). This lets them allow smoking upstairs (thus the love/hate) because the bar is separate from the dining area. Around the back is the entrance to the downstairs dining level and where the parking lot is.

Menu stands out for offering four varieties of chili: Texas, Cincinnati, Terlingua Red and vegetarian, all of which you can get them to add to just about any menu item. If your alcohol-added brain can't decide, they offer a free sample plate to let your taste buds judge. Also check out the Chili Mac (load it up by ordering it "four way" with cheese and onions) and Frito Chili Pie. The complimentary cornbread is another nice gesture. The best daily specials are $6 burger Mondays (yes, it used to be $5) and $5 Chili Mac Tuesdays.

They have all sorts of beer specials at happy hour although selection is limited to mostly mainline domestics. Not a fan of the $3 soda though.

P.S. Tell 'em that Katie and Kelly sent ya!

When husband invited me to be +1 at his office holiday party, I figured I owed him for all the Yelp events he's so cheerfully attended with me. And when he told me the party would be at the Fairfax branch of Hard Times, I was in like Flynn.

I happen to love HT's veg chili, but we've been going to the Old Town or Clarendon spots for our chili fix. The Fairfax franchise is a Hard Times Café & CUE -- a much bigger, much more exciting version of HT, with a dining room on the first floor and a yoooge sports bar on the second. They consider themselves a Mason/Tech/Ohio State/Caps/Nats/Skins/Steelers bar. There's flat screen TVs everywhere with sports channels showing perpetually.

You may have deduced from the name of the joint that there's pool. But there's also shuffleboard. And *skee-ball*! You can skee-ball with one hand and hold a pint of Hard Times Ale...or Shiner Bock...or any of a dozen draught beers in your other. When you're done playing games, grab a seat at a high-topper or at the bar in any of the various rooms to enjoy your pre-dinner jalapeño poppers. Those things are so. good. I don't know what kind of cheese they put in them, but it's light and creamy like a ricotta or chèvre. The breading is super crunchy and not too thick. Delish.

You can't miss with HT chili. I like their vegetarian chili mac with raw onion, shredded cheese, and sour cream. But if I'm really feeling like a coronary, I'll ask for the Frito pie version instead. The veg chili here is made with soy protein, succulent mushrooms, and peanuts (nom nom!), and has a nice heat from jalapeño peppers. Husband enjoys their Cincinnati chili with its finely ground, velvety-textured beef and mellow, cinnamony flavor. Menu prices are really reasonable, and it seems every day of the week HT is running some kind of special offer on food and bev.

HT FFX has evaded Virginia's smoking ban by allowing smoking (both cigarettes and cigars) in the second-floor sports bar, separately ventilated from the downstairs dining room. To me, this is a *major* gross-out, but others of you out there may wish to flock here for just this reason.

Been twice so far and definitely a fan of Hard Times. The chilli is pretty good and they offer alot of options...from a spicy to a sweeter version, with or without beans, and even a vegetarian option! And they offer a free sampler, so you can try the different types before you order. The only cons are that it's definitely NOT a healthy, and they charge alot extra for each topping.

My favorites are either the Chilli Bubba (comes atop cornbread...try that with the sweet Cincinnati chilli) or the Frito Chilli Pie (MMMmmmm).
The Chili Lime Wings are also fantastic...and despite being a little burned, had great flavor!! Ooh and their brand-name chilli-vinegar sauce is killer...on anything!

They also have a separate floor with a bar, tv, and pool tables...good atmosphere to watch a sporting event, hang out with friends, etc.

I've never been a fan of Hard Times. The prices for chili are high compared to the size of the portion and they charge extra for necessities like cheese and sour cream. And it's not like they have the best chili. I remember the Bethesda location being dark, dingy and having crappy service.

I came here for Michelle P.'s birthday. I walked in to find two rooms to the immediate left and right with pool tables and flat screen tvs. The rooms were brightly lit and clean. I couldn't believe this was a Hard Times. I didn't venture to the rest of the restaurant but I liked what I could see with the long bar and the flat screen tv's all around.

We split a ginormous nacho platter with texas chili. Considering none of us were hungry when we ordered it, we did a good job of eating almost all of it. The service was decent which is far better than the other Hard Times I've been to.

If you're looking for a nice sports bar out in Fairfax, this your place. It hasn't restored my faith in any of the other locations but I would certainly return to this one.

I agree with previous post of Hard Times being a little "dirty" but it's a sports bar that gets packed every weekend.

The food is something left to be desired. They have an excellent selection of drink however. And it's one of the few bars in Fairfax that you can smoke in. Something that is slowly being killed in VA.

On any given afternoon there are people stopping by after a hard day at work to have a snack and a few beers and to shoot a few games of pool. Now one thing I love about hard times is it's maintained their billiards tables. And the rates aren't asinine either, only $7 an hour per person. And to have 16oz drafts at $2 a piece during happy hour is great.

Poker every Saturday at 1 and 4 have great prizes as well. Love it and going back.

The food is good, but horribly unhealthy. I asked for an extra side plate, and was able to drain off the red/orange oil from under the pasta all the way up to the inner lip of the plate. For sure, if America was in hard times this would be the place to pack on all the calories needed for a long cold winter.

If the chef or owners are reading this...you don't have to drench things is grease for them to taste good. Consider a revision to your recipes or sac the chef and get one that cares about the health of America's restaurant diners.

The teenage waitstaff was unenthused about being at work this day. Makes sense because I wouldn't want to work in the bar smoke runoff filled dining room. Besides the waiter had a hard time telling and Ale from a Lager, and was baffled when I asked for anything Amber/Brown.

I'd rather live another day longer than go to Hard Times Cafe again.

Hard Times has yet to disappoint me with their food. I'm addicted to the chili bubba. There's seemingly just the right amount of cornbread put with the chili.

It's a new location so it's nice and it's pretty large. There was seemingly no one there on a tuesday night and they let us sit where ever we wanted and watch anything on the various TVs around the restaurant. The service has for the most part been good each time I've been there.

Typical bar. The building is still old and blah as I recalled when it was Seasons. The crowd has been an overpowering male population both times I've been there. Smokey, crowded, loud, and I don't find it pleasant to eat there - because it feels dirty.. could be because I use to work at Seasons and knew what went on there :O

Anyhow far better sports bars to go to without such a huge sausage population in Fairfax. I keep hearing rave reviews about their wings, but honestly they do/did nothing for me. Better stick to BWU down the street for a bigger selection of wings and boneless wings. Plus the wait girls at BWU don't look like another banged up Spears sister, they're just underage and nearly naked lol.

Its close to GMU and there are pool tables. Pretty spacious and has a good/friendly crew working.
Make sure to get the chili sampler. They're all a bit on the spicy side for me, but that's because I'm an uber wimp.
For wings, I highly recommend the Orig Texas style or Chili Lime.
There are specials on certain days so make sure to keep an eye out for all of that.
Make sure to go around to the back of the building to find parking though.

Being from Ohio, I get cravings now and then for Ohio food.

I can't explain how happy I was to find that there was a place in the area that served Cincinnati-style chili.

For those who've never had Cincinnati-style chili, let me explain it to you: it was invented by Greek immigrants in a German-immigrant-dominated town in southern Ohio. It looks pre-digested. It doesn't smell too great. And it tastes like HEAVEN.

It's usually served on a Coney dog with cheese, mustard, and onions. Alternately, it's served on top of spaghetti.

You can have your chili spaghetti a variety of ways: A "two-way" is spaghetti topped with chili only. A "three-way" is noodles, chili, and cheese, a "four-way" is a three-way plus kidney beans or onions, and a "five-way" is a three-way with beans AND onions.

Looking through the menu, I saw they had sliders, too-- White Castle is another Ohio staple I find myself craving, so I was excited. Plus the beer selection wasn't too shabby.

All that said, I've been somewhat disappointed with each of my three visits. Every time, at least one person in my party's gotten the wrong thing. The waitresses and bartenders have a tendency to either disappear or stare fixedly at one spot, where a majority of patrons are out of their line of vision, for long periods of time.

The chili itself is alright, but honestly not any better than the cans of Skyline I can order over the internet. Moreover, the characteristic sweetness of Cincinnati chili-- given to it by small amounts of chocolate and cinnamon-- just isn't there. They list the recipe on their website, and there's no mention of chocolate or cinnamon.

Nevertheless, it's as close to home as I can get quickly on a whim around here, so I'll likely return occasionally.

We are new to the area and don't find a lot of places that are casual that also have good food and of course, it's nearly impossible to find a pool table unless you go to a billiards hall. Hard Times in Fairfax has all that. The atmosphere is fun and upbeat, though not too much like a chain. The pool tables are in great shape, though I wish we didn't have to pay $12 an hour!!!

A couple tips - it can get really drafty in the bar and in certain areas of the restaurant if it is cold. Do not let them set you at the table at the bottom of the staircase next to the kitchen. We froze even with our jackets and hats on. Also, dress warm to play pool upstairs as the front door keeps sticking open and the breeze just whips in there.

Other than that - service is always friendly and attentive - it's a pretty young crowd, but we being in our early 30s do not feel too out of place (except when there is a Virginia Tech game on).

Until recently, two culinary issues had been bugging me. The first was the loss of Il Lupo, a very good Italian restaurant in Fairfax that suddenly and mysteriously closed about a year ago. The other was a nagging question: for all the Hard Times Cafes in Northern Virginia, why the hell hadn't it occurred to anyone to open one in Fairfax?

Well wouldn't you know it, Hard Times went and took the space formerly occupied by Il Lupo. I've been several times and am pretty happy with it. The seating downstairs is a little odd, but it's nice to be separated from the loud smoky pool area upstairs.

I've always enjoyed the chili at Hard Times, but this one has excelled consistently at two other things. One is very cold beer, particularly Shiner Bock. It's rare to find Shiner Bock on draft anywhere, so thankfully Hard Times does it right. The other is chili lime wings. Get these things grilled and they are outstanding time and again.

They haven't advertised it much as of yet, but this is the first Hard Times to do Sunday brunch. This wasn't bad either, a lot of standard breakfast items with the usual western twist that Hard Times likes to take.

So while I continue to mourn the loss of Il Lupo, I can take comfort in the fact that my old friend Hard Times has come in to shine some light in my hood.

Many people do not know about the new Hard Times in Fairfax City. its located right across from the jail. Its definitely worth a visit! The upstairs (entrance off of chain bridge) has a bar with video games and a couple different pool rooms. You can actually make reservations and get the rooms anf unlimited pool for 12$an hour. it was great for a post work happy hour. It doesn't have as many pool tables as the one in herndon, so i can envision it getting crowded and pool being at a minimum

The downstairs is a restaurant. It has a somewhat awkward design (but thats because of the sapce) so its really hard to tell how many people are there! But just like the other HT, the chili is great, the grilled chicken great and the beers awesome (although not nearly as good as it was when it was being brewed by ODBC). I reccomend trying the vegetarian chili. While i am one of the biggest carnivores ever, i was shocked how much i enjoyed it. The flavor was awesome!

definitely worht a visit!
