simply good food at rock bottom prices.  It's like 1970 hit this place and never left.  LOVE IT!  I'll be a regular.

Oh and get the grilled onions.

the burger was good, i admit it.  nothing else about this experience is worthwhile.  service awful, place filthy, there was nothing good about this place.  the employee who recommended this lunch spot has not yet been asked to work again.

If you like old school, this is your place, and I don't mean fake 50's diner old school.
But in the way that this is a place that time forgot about, but the formula is still the same, good service, good basic American food(cooked right in front of you) and good prices(don't really think they have changed for decades).
I am sure there has been updates along the way, I actually heard that some time back in the day there was a mudslide that took of half the back of the house.
Sure they allow smoking and it is not well lit up, but that was just how they rolled back in the day.

Chip is the owner and he took over the place from his parents, he is the only employee to my knowledge.
They have the basic burger and hotdogs which Chip makes right there in the corner kitchen.

Usually I go for a cheeseburger with a side hotdog or a bowl of homemade chilli.
Again, Chip keeps the Burger simple with two add on options: pickles and onions.
Last time is was there the regulars "group pressured" me into getting a double cheeseburger, which I of course did...
I was also dared to try a Brian(I think that is what he called it), which is two cheese melts with a burger in the middle, maybe next time.

This place has so much going for it that you can't help loving it, I would even go as far as calling it a piece of NKY history.

There is one person that reviewed this place and suggested that they changed it up, this just means you don't get it!
This place works because it is simple and do not have an extensive menu or fancy beer selection.
But maybe you mistook it for a Max and Erna's...
    Sometimes less, really is more...

I love writing long reviews, but you can see from the other reviewers what this joint is all about so I'll keep it simple.

    - Fan Freakin' Tastic burgers.  Hand Pattied, cooked on a flat top with choice of white buns or rye bread.  Pickles and Onions included.

    - Great service.  Chip also keeps it simple, and is a very nice host.  Obvious Red's fan (I hear rumor that Pete Rose used to hang here).

    - Small atmosphere in an old room.

    - Cheap.  I thought "$3.75 for a double, must be a small burger."  I was wrong.  I'll do a single next time.

    Makes the list.

Well, this is a tavern. I guess.

Maybe more of a snack stand. H&Ts doesn't really look inviting from the outside. An old building with no windows, really no signage to indicate it's a bar aside from a non-illuminated sign outside. The interior is incredibly small, with ~5 stools, and two tiny tables crammed into a place the size of a bedroom. They were surprisingly full for a Sunday afternoon, so I guess they have a good network of regulars.

I will say for one, H&T is cheap. A burger is only going to run you $2. They have a small, domestic beer selection, bottle only. The burger is pretty much "from Kroger" ingredients, and tastes exactly like a burger you could fry up in a skillet at home. Yeah it's not bad, but it's not life changing either. This place has potential, but it needs to be a bit larger. Get some light, an expanded beer selection, and then we'll be talking.

I love this place. I've been going here since I was a kid. I usually just order ahead and pick up the food though. They have the best burgers in town, and awesome chili. They're really cheap too.

    You have to be brave.

Herb and Thelma's isn't the most welcoming from the outside.  The building is old, the neighborhood may look iffy to out-of-towners, but if you have the courage to hop off I-75 turn right on Pike, drive up a hill, and step onto their well worn stoop, you'll be in one of the friendliest places you've been too.

It's a small place. When my family and I walked in, everyone (who looked like they'd been coming for 40 years) gave us a friendly nod. The bar keep asked "what'll you have".  We said, burgers.

While we waited, he flirted and goofed with my 9-year old.  Everyone relaxed.  A guy at the bar turned and struck up a conversation with us.

This is an old school, friendly, neighborhood place.

The burgers are nothing fancy, but well made on a griddle, served on paper plates and prices haven't changed since Bench was behind the plate.

Old school.  That's the way I feel about Herb & Thelmas.  It's hard to believe that I lived in the Cincinnati area for nearly 30 years and had never visited this fine establishment until earlier this year.

A good friend suggested we meet for lunch there and when I walked in and gave the place a once over, it felt like I stepped into 1979.  The place probably hasn't changed much since then and other than a television, is relatively untouched by most technologies.  An example of this is that they are a cash only joint, which usually bothers me but something about it was endearing here.

The guy behind the bar was incredible kind and the burger he made for me was excellent and right off the grill.  Not to mention everything on the menu is not far from 1979 prices either, you can get a beer, a dog, a burger and get out for less than 10$.

The only negatives I can see that keep it from a 5 star are the credit cards thing, there were alot of smokers puffing away and parking can be tricky.  But if you let it add to the overall charm of the place, you will be back.
