Joe's take on the prohibition theme is pure camp, but it's not the only restaurant in its vicinity where the inside is decorated to look like you are outside. In general, it is a fun neighborhood bar. It caters to an older, more local crowd than that of Davis Square proper, so it makes for a nice break from the yuppie hipster vibes emanating from just a quarter mile away.
They also serve excellent pub food. It is down to earth, satisfying and inexpensive. I especially like their burgers. They have a wide selection, and are as good if not better than some burger restaurants in town. They also have a bunch of tropical drinks served in fish bowls. These are tasty and strong, but served responsibly. The menu stipulates that you can only purchase one for sharing, and one pair can order no more than two a night.
The servers are friendly though not always on top of things. The clientele seems to be really outgoing too. The last couple times my barmates and I have been there, we've gotten into some pretty interesting conversations with random drunk couples.
It's ok. Wait staff was pretty incompetent. Couldn't tell me what was in anything and seemed unable to ask the kitchen. Sort of seemed annoyed to have to get us stuff as a waiter.
Fries and buffalo chicken wrap were fine. Black bean soup was inedible. The saltiest salt lick I've ever tasted. Waitress did not notice we did not eat it.
Minus one star for super salt and having to pay extra for a side of dressing. That tiny dish of honey mustard does not cost you a $1.
Indifferent staff -feels like they are bothered that you came in- food is 5 stars -staff-not so much-been coming in for a couple of years for the food---blah bored staff attitude made tonight our last visit!! Yes great local place feel to the place, sad that the welcoming feel is not there anymore.
Review Source:Its a good after work environment for a quick drink or two. I experienced trivia night for the first time and it was pretty entertaining. Foods good and menu has great variety. I hear they have brunch now and looking forward to trying it out.
I work near by so I often will order a meal to go for lunch and it seems the kitchen staff if very consistant in quality through out the day.
Drinks here after work are always great and it usually isnt too hard to get a table.
Can't believe I haven't reviewed this place! Â Used to come here a lot with co-workers from a certain local school district. Â After softball games, one of the teachers was always able to plan a night for us and got the good folks at Joe Sent Me to put out some appetizers. Â
The buffalo wings here are AMAZING. Â Maybe the best around Boston. Â I take my wings seriously, so take heed. Â Old James knows his wings, son!
Good beer selection, they always have something new to try. Â Good selection of scotch and whisky too. Â
The Coors Light bottles used to be $3.25 but last time I was here they had jacked them up to $4 or something. Â Sign of the times, right? Â
The jukebox is a definite draw. Â We'd always get some good tunes rocking during happy hour back in the day. Â One of my co-workers was somewhat famous for loading $20+ in there at a time. Â Tasty tunes make for good times while crushing brews. Â If he didn't like booze so much, I'd say he spent more $$ here lifetime on the juke than on drinks, but that's just simply not true. Â
Nice trip down memory lane writing this. Â I should come back for some wings and college football sometime soon. Â It's only a short bus ride away, after all.
Darts too, those are fun, right guys??!?
I LOVE this place. Been coming here for a few years now, finally decided to sit down and write a long overdue review.
1-Food:
Honestly, for a bar/pub this place has a very impressive and extensive menu. Their burgers are creative and very tasty. They have wraps and entrees as well. Burgers and sandwiches are all priced under $10 which is very reasonable and entrees are not that much more expensive. The kitchen is a tad slow, but unlike chain restaurants, there is more than likely just one cook taking care of all the food orders. Trust me, the food is worth the not so long wait.
2-The Bar atmosphere:
I'm really not a big "going out" person, and I can't stand over crowded bars that attract students like ones in Davis sq, but this place is great because it tends to be geared more towards locals, working class, young professionals that have made Cambridge their home, and Average "Joe's" like myself! Its usually not too packed on the weekends, just enough people where its lively, yet you have room to move around. The bar staff are very friendly and attentive, and prices for drinks are alot more reasonable than any place in the "squares" of Cambridge.
Overall this place is great for a quick bite to eat, or even a night out. Try it once, you won't be dissappointed!
Interesting (well, maybe obvious) as you get farther up Mass Ave from Harvard Square the clientele gets less studently and more local. Â Whether this is a good thing or not is up to you, but it's nice to know there's a choice of pub-type places where everyone else is not 30 years younger than me.
However, the menu was more eclectic than I expected and the food was more than decent for a bar.. Service was good and welcoming. Â (A local bar in Cambridge is a whole different matter than a local bar in South Boston).
Yeah, all the other reviews are right, the kitchen is slow. Â Although pub type snacks like chicken fingers seem to come out fast to bar patrons, anything approaching a real meal takes longer than in similar places. Â But we found our food to have a little more care put into it than some other places.Perhaps more things are made from scratch, who knows - we just need to not have any pressing engagement on the other end,
A decent local chain (well two restaurants - does that make it a chain or a link?
I usually get something off the burger menu. They use Angus beef, and usually is done to specification. What is also nice, and what many don't get: the cole slaw! Nicely spiced, peppery, fresh, cole slaw! Try this in lieu of the fatty fries. The fish and chips are excellent as well, crispy fish, filling.
Nicely placed televisions with two feeds makes it possible to watch two sporting events at once. Servers / bartenders are chatty to appropriate level. The special cocktails are a bit too sweet, but for once in a while they are nice.
All in all, a laid-back bar food joint, good drinks, and easy-going.
Beware of trivia night - a little more difficult to get a table then.
A local favorite of my boyfriend and I, Joe Sent Me is awesome for a few reasons:
1) Best pulled pork in Cambridge. And Somerville. Probably Boston also. DELICIOUS.
2) It's hardly ever too crowded to get a table. Great place to go for dinner on a Friday or Saturday without having to worry about reservations or a line.
3) Fishbowl drinks! tasty. They also have lots of other good things to drink, including Magners.
In short, Joe Sent Me is a great place to go for a casual meal. I've never left unsatisfied!
I'm about as local to Joe's as you can get, and it is a terrific local. The staff is friendly, the prices reasonable and the food is great for pub grub- while the menu sports some unexpected twists. Great place to catch a game, have a meal on the patio, play pub trivia, whatever.
The ONLY thing that makes Joe's less then a 4, is the confusingly slow food service time. Even when not busy, prepare to wait 25-30 for a couple of burgers. The burgers are bombtastic; but unless the cow is slaughtered, butchered, prepped and grilled upon order- a burger should take 15 mins tops.
Whatever- I'm typically not in a rush, and when the burger comes, you wont be disappointed. Â
If you fancy some heat, ask for the Diablo sauce. Little bit of smoke and a whole lot of habanero- great on wings or the chicken sando. Toasty.
Stopped in for lunch after a round of golf just outside of town. Wonderful. Delicious. Soothing. Laid-back.
I had been to Joe Sent Me before but this lunch experience sealed the deal for me. We were immediately served fantastic Spaten Octoberfest brew and had just enough time to relax and take in the ambiance before the burger arrived. The Boilermaker was supposed to be medium-rare and was actually medium-well but the slight overcooking didn't matter - it was perfect! Cajun fries to liven up the side and boom!
This might have to be a somewhat limited review for Joe sent me. Â I've been there twice and can only review from what I've seen. Â My visits were as follows:
1) Went there with some friends to celebrate a birthday. Â We found seating no problem, service fairly attentive, and prices pretty standard for bars in Cambridge. Â Overall a good place to have a few pints, shoot some darts and shoot the shit.
2) I managed to fall and horribly mangle my hands a few blocks away and stumbled into Joe sent me to clean up/stop the bleeding. Â It was a scene... they dealt with it pretty well though! Â Many bandaids and napkins later I was ok! Â Kind of...
I was torn between 3 and 4 stars, but for providing better AND FASTER care than most of the nearby hospitals? Â Joe's cool in my book.
Perfectly acceptable for an afternoon beer and a burger. Several beers, vodkas and french fries later, headed home. No jack on the menu, surprising. Â Totally local crew, only one bartender serving the entire floor but it was between lunch and dinner, no problem, help arrived before we left.
Here's my beef: they have Joe Torre sliders on the menu, totally unacceptable. I demand you pick a famous Bostonian to replace: Joe Castiglione, Joe Morgan. Come on people, suggestions?
Beef part two: the Sloppy Joes are actually fries and they are tossed in a bbq like sauce and then drizzled with a Secret blend sauce. Take away the BBQ sauce replace it with the dry rub the sauce is made from, drizzle with secret sauce et voila perfectly spiced dry fries with a nice condiment. Also, really i think you should have real sloppy joes.
I dig it.
Dark bar, loud music in the evening and apparently they have a country night...which I will be back for... BOOTS STRAPPED!
I always get the sliders and this time the waitress made the not so terrible mistake of thinking I ordered Fried pickles when I just wanted pickles on the side. Â I cut up the fried pickles and put them on my burger and it was fat kid heaven. Â The fried pickles are my favorite thing there.
Small selection of draft beers and they have the Joe Bowls which are good, strong and have at least ten different concotions.
One of my biggest bar pet peeves of all time? Â When a bartender or waitress whisks away a drink you're not finished with yet. Â With cat-like reflexes, one of the servers at Joe Sent Me disappeared into the ether with my last few sips of beer that I was planning to savor. Â Most of the time, when I inform servers about their error, I get a shrug, but this waitress was kind enough to replenish the pilfered pint.
I've gone by this place a million times but I happened to find myself in the neighborhood with some time to kill, so in I went. Â Interesting decor, with a lot of old signage (loved the giant Schlitz finger pointing down right at me) and a zombie Humphrey Bogart up on the wall next to some Mardi Gras revelers.
Overall it's a solid neighborhood bar that's not quite a dive and isn't trying very hard to fall into any of the Boston bar stereotypes (sports, "Irish", upscale, hipster, beer snob) - though inside you're likely to find sports (on the tv's), guys wearing scally caps, the rather upscale "Wine By Joe" from Oregon, the odd hipster now and again, and probably a beer snob or two thanks to offerings of Rapscallion and Dogfish.
Great atmosphere, good beer and fun trivia night. Â
My friend and I met a regular there (older gentleman named Phil) who joined our trivia team just because he was sitting next to us. Â Had a great time, except there were clearly some people cheating with their iPhones. Â Ridiculous! Â The host even called it out in the middle of the game: "It's a free trivia night at your local bar. Â Why would you cheat??" Â
I know it's not the bar's fault (can't police everyone!), but that really irked me. Â I'll actually probably go somewhere else for my next trivia night.
Had two Pumpkinhead beers, which are quickly turning into my beer of choice for the fall. Â The bartenders were extremely nice and there were two HUGE tvs right above the bar, so I can definitely see myself going back for drinks and to watch the Sox.
Saturday night = beer + bbq wings + sliders + FRIED pickles
Amazing.
Joe Sent Me isn't a place for Belgian microbrews or pan-Asian Tapas. It's a bar with TV's, two dart boards, friendly service, outdoor seating and some delicious pub food. It's exactly what you need right now.
I inhaled my food last night. Ask my friends.
Hey Joe! Will you be my new neighborhood bar??? Â You will?? YAYERS!
Matt and I decided to go on a mini bar adventure near our new humble abode and this was our first stop. We happened to be here on trivia night, so it was packed!! Even the outdoor tables were full! And on a night as nice as that one, we wanted to sit outside. Oh well though. We found two stools and got two beers and played along to the trivia for the last couple questions, and looking at the decor in here...their beer posters, vintage signs....it just felt so homey and nice. And then we saw that they also serve giant bowl drinks called Joe's Bowls and at that moment we knew we would be coming back to try each of the four varieties they offer :-)
And their food smelled so so good. If we hadn't just finished cooking and eating, we would have partaken in their yummy looking fries and sandwiches and burgers....A little birdy there told us that they have the best sweet potato fries in Boston, and that sounds like a challenge to us, so the next time we go, it will be one of Joe's Bowls and an order of sweet potato fries....But Joe, I have a feeling I will constantly being telling people I am coming to hang out with you. You are so close to our house, and everything about you is just great!
And I mean come on, it has to be one of the coolest bar names ever.
I went in here with friends because we'd been told they have margaritas in scorpion bowls, and, hey, how could we resist that? They did, indeed, have four mixed drinks available in big bowls (Joe bowls), and we were happy with them (though the marg was just from sour mix, so no match for Rudy's), and the burgers were, as other reviews promised, excellent.
However, I think we got the worst service here that I've had in a decade. The food took almost an hour to arrive (and we heard other tables complaining similarly), and when it did, one of the dishes a friend had ordered simply didn't come out. The server didn't notice, and it took us several minutes to flag her down to ask about it. Without apologizing, she asked what my friend had ordered, went to check on it, and came back to say "it didn't get put in." She promised it would be out in 5 minutes. Fifteen minutes later, we had to flag her down to ask about it again. At no point were we offered an apology, and it was only when we complained that she offered to comp us one of the drinks. Because the rest of us had long finished eating, we gave up on the last dish and got the check at that point.
This is a great case of an instance where good customer service would have guaranteed repeat business, but lousy service guarantees I won't be back.
I used to work right down the street from  this place and would be there pretty much 3 or 4 nights a week. Â
First off, they have the best burgers in town. Â Some people (myself included) would argue they are better than RFF O'Sullivans. Â They have a decent selection of beers and it is a great place to set and relax while watching some sports.
I stopped in there last night for a drink + dinner with a friend and it was the first time I've been back in over a year (damn you office move!). Â While I didn't know the bartender working, I did recognize a couple of regulars from the 'hood who have been coming there for years.
The downside of the place is that it gets really packed on the weekends and loud, so it isn't the best place if you want to socialize or carry on a conversation. Â Also, it is about 10 minute walk from Davis which isn't bad, but you have to make an effort to go there when there are other bars right in Davis. Â It is definitely worth the walk though!
Joe Sent Me is right around the corner from my house and I am not quite sure why I don't come here more often. I have liked it every time.
Their burgers are especially good and huge!! I am not the biggest fan of their fries but they are not horrible by any means. It is a great place to grab a bite to eat, watch the game and have a beer. Trivia night on Tuesdays is also a good time.
The fish bowls are a must if you are doing a local pub crawl! Not cheap, but they definitely add some amusement along with a good buzz.
I agree with another yelper that they could turn the music down a tad. I don't think anyone is going to Joe Sent Me to get their dance on .
The only reason this place gets 4 stars is for the buffalo wings and its burgers.
I can be kind of picky about wings, but these are great. The sauce is spicy but has a slightly sweet undertone that I can't quite place, but it's awesome. They are a bit stingy with the bleu cheese and charge you 50 cents for more, so ration it.
The burgers can be excellent, but it depends who's cooking and who you're dining with. I prefer my burgers medium-rare and my boyfriend liked them medium...this is no problem, but if we're ordering with someone who liked their beef more well-done our food is usually overcooked.
This place has a "seat yourself" sign at the front, which can pose a problem since their waitstaff are little more than pretty faces poured into tight pants and low-cut tops. Don't count on them bringing you a menu or taking a drink order less than 15 minutes after you arrive.
I have had good service experiences at Joe's. There are a few good waitresses among the other less-friendly, less-modest types. Just don't come here if you're in a hurry and you'll be sure to enjoy the food. It's honest, no frills, bar food and that's alright by me.
After 10 years in this great city, I have become accustomed to things in New England that just don't exist in the south. Â Like a Spa (aka convenience store), a packy, half sour pickles instead of dill, tonic means soda, and never once have I seen a boston baked bean (but it's a candy down south).
And maybe something I should now put into this category is deep fried pickles. Â who came up with this? Â and since I saw it on the menu here first, I always refer to their menu as "good food, great turkey burgers, but fried pickles - wtf"
but to be honest, it's the only complaint about the place (and not really even a complaint - more of an observation). Â Overall the mood is casual, the bartenders are friendly, the TVs are plentiful, and the place always feels lively but not packed (at least not the dozen or so times I have been there).
It's the place where I would be a regular if it weren't such a decent hike from where I live - and that's a testament to the place - it has to have the feel like "I could be comfortable coming in here often and it not get old" - a lot of places don't have that - this place does.
A fabulous spot! I wasn't impressed by their on-tap selection, so the beer selection is decent, okay I guess, but their foods were great and the ambience here is awesome. Very cozy feel, lots of people, but not dive-y. Feels like a solid neighborhood hangout.
Bar and waitstaff were very kind and attentive. All around a solid place to choose as a hangout. Tell them Maria sent you ;)
Ma'! Liz and Damien sent me here and I got drunk.
Saturday night, playdate with the kids. The place serves average pub food, I was trying to eat healthy and got a steak salad and it was ok, no big deal, but I should've eaten more of it or something else  and maybe things wouldn't have been so ugly the next day.
I didn't pay too much attention about what the other kids ordered, but I recall some fried pickles, veggie wrap (for good boy Jordan), buffalo wings (MILD ONES, PFFFT!) and the drinks, Jesus, I "shared" two cocktails-bowls with Lizard, these drinks are meant to be for two or more people and since I count as a half, I don't have to tell you how my Sunday was. I was just too distracted by Damien's impersonations (a new one!) and by watching Liz crawling under the table, that I barely paid attention on how much I was drinking.
The service was alright, but I felt it was a bit slow with the food, the waitress was attentive though and everyone seemed okay with their food, other than, the place is just average.
I deserve a time out ;).
The things I love about Joe Sent Me:
1. Â The hot wings
2. Â Trivia (with Soul Coughing in the background)
3. Â The funny looking characters painted on the wall
4. Â The schlitz sign hanging from the ceiling (and yet they don't have Schlitz)
5. Â Buckets and buckets of beer to share with my soccer mates after we lose yet another game.
6. Â DTP's story about giving his number to the waitress. Â And yes, she called him. Â
...To remind him he forgot to pay the bill.
I'm here maybe once a month, always with the same person, and we always order the same things. Sure, part of routine is that it's familiar and comfortable, but this particular routine is just... really darn good... so there's no reason to change it up!
The place is always busy, but never packed to the point of being uncomfortable... at least on the weeknights from 8:30-11 that I'd tend to be there. Last week, on my most recent visit, there were three available seats at the bar, two of which were then taken up by me and my compadre.
The on-tap beer list is decent. There's nothing unexpected or fantastic on it, but you can get yourself a decent brew. I don't pay attention to what's in bottles, so... not sure about that. There seems to be a fun martini menu, and they now even advertise some bowl-sized drinks on a chalkboard behind the bar.
Moving from liquids to solids... the bar food is great! I have to admit, I originally approached the idea of fried pickles with a healthy trepidation, but am a total convert. Fried dill pickle spears, dipped in ranch dressing. So good. I am literally starting to salivate right now just thinking about them.
The pickles are always followed up, by me and my buddy, with "blackened blue" burgers: cajun-spiced, with blue cheese dressing. My friend gets the standard beef burger, and I get the veggie variety. This is one of the only veggie burgers I've ever encountered that is every bit as flavorful as the meaty sort, and so at Joe Sent Me, I never feel like I'm losing out by avoiding the cow. Fries come with this: I've tried the regular and the cajun, and both are tasty.
Otherwise... what's to be said? The music is usually pretty decent, and not overly loud. For sports fans, there are big new plasma HDTVs mounted above the bar. Tuesday nights they host team trivia matches.
It's not a dive bar, it's not upscale, it's not got a particular "scene" per se, it's not really full of any sort of obvious personality at all. It's just a good honest place to grab a pint and some tasty grub. Warm, clean, friendly, and satisfying!
Turkey Burger and Fried Pickle? Cool???
Their beer and wine list is great and food is,well Pub food.
Try their Caramel Delight Martini. Holy mother freekin YUMMERS
I can't go to the one in Waltham, since that is where people who graduated from my High school hang out or work at-too bad since they have a patio
Cambridge location has trivia, nice Flat screens and way more space.
bartenders are total hotties.
I can only describe JSM as a chain like pub.
A lot of Uggs, Coach and tight man shirts..... Mixed in with locals and hip people.....I can't identify with any of the three but I always feel like this is a chill place with cool vibe.
I would not plan a night in advance here, nor go out of my way. Just a nice place to unexpectedly stop in if you are thirsty or hungry.
Stopped in for a bite to eat and some girl talk with my best girl. Had some beers, had some food. Beer is beer, and the sandwiches we had were good. Our waitress was great.
We ended up sitting in the front near the windows to the street. It felt so much less bar-ish and so much more sandwich shop over there. Reading the other revews leads me to think that if I sat more in the depths of the establishment, I wouldn't have felt so misplaced. And I think that's the reason for 3 stars. I'll have to go back and give it another try sometime.
I've been twice now, and I have to say I wasn't impressed by the food either time. I had the peanut thai chicken salad the first time, and it was a solid salad, but nothing I'd be dying to order again.
Last night I returned for trivia night and my husband had a pulled pork sandwich. Being a bit of an expert on Boston pulled pork sandwiches I thought this was terrible. It had an extra BBQ flavor and wasn't nearly as tender as Red Bones. The fries, and I am a lover of fries, were fairly burnt and just not that satisfying.
Not a bad place for a drink, but I'd eat elsewhere first.
Um, first and only place I've had fried pickles. Awesome. I was totally disgusted by the idea previous to actually trying them - turns out they are really good.
There is enough space that if you get there a bit on the early side you can get a big group in and take over one of the larger tables. Play darts, watch the game, get some wings, whatever. It's got a pretty nice atmosphere for such a small spot.
The female bartenders have been a little surly at times, but this sometimes happen if you are from Cambridge and you meet other people who you dislike who happen to be employed at a place you frequent.
When it's hot outside, there is nothing better than a juicy burger and an icy cold beer--unless it comes with a side of fried pickles, of course! Â Tucked away on an oft-forgotten stretch of Mass Ave. in North Cambridge is Joe Sent Me, a neighborhood bar long known for their exceptional burgers. A cozy bar greets you on the way in, and other high tables line up opposite, separating the bar from the regular tables. The dcor is fun and quirky, but the main feature is the five flat screen televisions that line the room--a great place to cheer on the Sox over a frosty glass of ale.
Harkening back to the times when speakeasies were referred to as "Joe Sent Me" (used as a password to gain entry); the bar offers up a decent selection of beer, wine and mixed drinks. Unfortunately, on a recent night that I was there, they had switched out the beer that I usually ordered for a blueberry offering and the two other options I wanted were unavailable, although they were still showing on the chalkboard above the bar. You wouldn't expect to find good cocktails in a bar of this nature, but surprisingly, their martinis are quite tasty. My favorite is the "Flirtini," a combination of Absolut, strawberry liqueur, and Grand Marnier, with cranberry and pineapple juices ($8). You can even order a variety of "Joe's Bowls," flavorful mixed drinks for two.
The menu consists primarily of appetizers you would expect to find at a bar: chicken quesadillas ($6.95), chicken fingers ($6.95), and mini cheese burgers ($7.95), but there are also a few surprises--for starters, the tasty Bazooka Joe's fried pickles ($6.50) which are the perfect combination of sour and crunchy. You can also sample some mediocre fried spring rolls ($6.95) or instead, opt for the best thing on the app menu, Cousin Joe's Kickin' Chicken Wings, in your choice of buffalo, BBQ, teriyaki, or Diablo (Hot). There are two sizes, the 10 or the 20 piece. If you go for the larger size, make sure you have a very healthy appetite--these wings aren't tiny!
There are salads for the more health conscious, but the size and the dressings are definitely not conducive for weight watchers. Still, they probably pack on fewer pounds than the other entrees, especially since you won't be chowing down on Joe's excellent fries. Check out the Cocamo Joe's Luau Salad ($7.95), one of the many Hawaiian themed items on the menu. The grilled teriyaki chicken on a bed of lettuce, with garden veggies, crispy wontons and grilled pineapple is sure to hit the spot. Just ask for your spicy Thai peanut dressing on the side.
Joe Sent Me is really known for their burgers but you can also choose between a variety of wraps, sandwiches and a handful of main entrees. The Bayou Joe's pulled pork sandwich has a nice smoky flavor. If you order the pulled pork wrap (which we ended up with because of a server mess-up--both are $7.95) you'll find it comes with coleslaw, which some people either love or hate. "Joe" Mamma's steak wrap ($8.95) is a fine alternative to a burger with tender grilled steak, sauted peppers, onions and mushrooms.
While it's nice that Joe Sent Me has a well-rounded menu, I have to wonder why anyone would even bother with the other entrees when the burgers and fries are so good? My favorite is the Hawaii Five -Joe ($8.50), loaded with pineapple, bacon, Swiss and teriyaki. Messy but it definitely falls into the finger-licking good category. The Joltin' Joe's Boilermaker ($7.95) is one of the best on the menu, a thick, juicy burger topped with BBQ ale sauce, bacon and cheddar. For a spicy twist, check out Joe Frazier's Blackened Blue ($7.95), Cajun-spiced and topped with bleu cheese.
Service is often spotty but given the nature of the establishment, it can be forgiven--to an extent. Waiting 30 minutes for appetizers to arrive only five minutes before the entre is annoying. When I was last there, tables didn't get cleared until a newly arrived customer had to ask for someone to clean them off. We were happy when the customers next to us left so we could switch away from our overly-wobbly table. Yet, all those annoyances didn't take away from the fact that we left fully, and completely, satiated.
After a few months of passing this place on Mass ave, I finally went in with a couple of my friends this weekend. I have been missing out!
The lighting and atmosphere were just right. The crowd was a mix of mid-20s to 40s and quite friendly to us strangers and let me tell you, the battle for the jukebox was amusing.
My dining companions and I started with some of their buffalo wings (sweet and tasty), they had wraps and seemed to enjoy them and I had the steak tips with roasted vegetables. Nicely done all around.
I went to this bar (probably the closest one to my apartment) with a serious hankering for nachos and big-screen TVs to watch the Sox game.
Finding one out of two isn't bad.
They have no nachos. This is shocking to me. I could also tell that the bartender is used to saying "NO" when people ask for them because there was no way I was talking him into finding some chips and melting cheese on top. However, the atmosphere, menus and martinis quickly made up for the lack of nachos. It's the perfect local bar to watch the game, and I'm sure it will soon become one of my favorite new "spots." Here's why...
I love the setup of this place. Not only do they have the main bar facing the nice flat TVs, but there's a second bar/counter beyond that, in the space just off of the area where you enter, where you can see just as well. Plus, there are TVs all over the place!
As a wannabe-martini connoisseur, the Joe Tinis quickly caught my eye. I went right for the Key Lime Pie, which involves a mix of Malibu, Midori and pineapple juice (ah pineapple...) and comes out looking like a mint-colored milk shake. This went down a little too easy. I had two in about 20 minutes. They also have those mega-sized drinks for groups to share and a good beer selection. Whatever kind of bevy you're looking for, you'll find something you'll like.
Aside from the missing nachos, the menu has a great selection of apps, sandwiches and entrees. I tried the buffalo wings (very tasty!) and the fries (need to be crispier). I can't wait to go back for dinner to test out some more...
You can't go wrong with Joe Sent Me.  Great turkey burgers (which is a major plus for us non red meat eaters) Big screen tvs for watching the game, take out for when you just want to eat at home and tons of yummy  beers. Â
And for those that are very health concious they'll sub fries for a salad!
I can never find a place to play darts. Â
I'm not even a good dart player, in fact, I'm awful, but I have fun drinking a beer and playing darts and trash talking my opponent.
My friend Joe and I went to Joe Sent Me in Cambridge and it was exactly what I was looking for. Â It's a bit out of the way - but bustling inside. Â It's got a 20's/30's theme... yummy burgers...
There is one in Waltham too - this one is a bit more centrally located and very crowded for after work drinks.
