We went for my wife's birthday. Â They had a devour downtown Indiana. Â The waitress was pleasant until we asked for the devour menu. Â After that she bordered on rude. Â As you would expect the steaks were excellent. Â The sides were too salty and weren't edible. Â I want to stress everyone we meet we're very nice except our waitress.
Review Source:This used to be my favorite steakhouse in Indy, but we went here last month and were very disappointed. Rumor has it they switched owners or something like that. They are now somehow connected with Landrys Inc., which I believe was a huge mistake. Our waiter kept asking us to join this Landry's Club or something, she was so relentless, probably asked 3 or 4 times.
The worst part is they got rid of the Prime Rib. This was the best by far in the area, but it is no more. Their steaks are still really good, but very very pricey. I think I'll just stick to FOGO from now on. You definitely get more variety there and the same, if not better, quality for cheaper.
I have to say, I had high hopes for Morton's due to its fame and price but it didn't quite live up to my expectations. Â The steaks were good, but for the price I was expecting to be really wowed and I just wasn't. Â The beefsteak tomatoes were excellent but again for the price they'd better be! Â I've only visited once and they were quite busy due to a convention being in town, but being busy should be no excuse for a place like this so I have to assume what I experienced was typical.
Maybe I'd have a better opinion if I had some other menu items but frankly for the price I'll stick with the dives!
My wife and I are trying to eat at all of the steakhouses in the Indianapolis area. Morton's was our third stop and we can't seem to visit anywhere else. Service is spectacular, steaks and food are perfect (especially the Cajun seasoned Ribeye), and the atmosphere is exactly what we are looking for in a romantic night out. As we keep visiting the rest of the steakhouses, Morton's is by far our favorite Steakhouse.
Review Source:Went here last night for my birthday dinner. Steaks were phenomenal. Best filet I've ever had... a nice crispiness on the exterior with a juicy red interior. Texture was perfect, not way too chewy like some filets can be. My husband had the ribeye which was also excellent.
We had the Morton's salads which were actually pretty terrible. The romaine was served in large and irregular pieces which were just odd. The dressing was supposed to be blue cheese but there weren't enough pieces of blue cheese in it and it just tasted like mayo unfortunately. :( I would NEVER order this salad again. I don't understand why it would be apparently a "signature" item since it is named for the restaurant but be so bleh.
We had the bacon & onion macaroni & cheese and creamed spinach as our side. Both were quite good but the mac & cheese was cold in the middle.
The worst part of the experience was our server. She was NOT the polished professional that you would expect to have wait on you at a restaurant of this caliber. She wasn't nearly attentive enough and just didn't conduct herself with much poise. For example, we ordered coffees after dinner and it took a little too long for her to bring them out. When she came out with the coffee for us, she complained to us that a coworker had "stolen" the fresh pot of coffee from the back before she had the chance to get it for us, which caused the delay. Just not very professional to blame your coworkers for the delay... I don't care if your coworker is annoying you, just apologize for the delay & serve my coffee and go on with your evening.
We also had the molten chocolate cakes which were good but my husband thought not as good as Bravo's version. ;) They do give you a free dessert for your birthday which is a nice touch and take a photo of the two of you together & give you a print out, so I did like that.
Bottom line, I would definitely go here again for a great steak but I would just hope to hell that I had a more professional, polished & attentive server. I honestly couldn't believe this lady worked there!
Went there on 3/25/12 with a party of 4. Â Service was poor, nothing over the top. Â The food was horrible. Two members of our party ordered Cajun steak, the steaks were so salty that they weren't edible. Â We ordered their version of French onion soup, but it came watered down.
The manager asked if we wanted anything else so they gave us New York strip which was undercooked. Â It was getting late so we just ordered dessert, the famous Molten lava cake. Â Well when it came out there was no oozing chocolate lava, pretty much it was overcooked.
The server came by and we told him what was wrong. Â Well that when he started picking through it, which was very insulting. Â The manager took the problem items off the bill. Â
I would skip on this place. Â I frequent other Morton's in Orlando and Chicago; and this one can't compare to those.
Like the feelings you experience when you get a full body, hour & a half massage from a gifted professional, particularly when you haven't had one in a really, really long time. Â That first touch is absolutely electric. Â Then, the real work, nay, the real magic begins. Â You're feeling loose (cause you're just melting), excited (cause wow that feels better than it should), overwhelmed (cause you can't believe they can do this), in love (cause they found your secret button), bitter (cause you can't have it all the time), anxious (cause you don't want it to stop) and so much more!
1. Â Yes, I'm talking about steak.
2. Â Yes, it is a chain.
3. Â Yes, I had a happy ending...I had the meat sweats later that night.
I've had good steak. Â I eat a lot of steak. Â It is my favorite food walking away. Â I have had Chairman's Reserve Cuts from IBP/Tyson (fresh on a trip to Arkansas). Â But nothing could have prepared me for just how damned good that bone in filet proved. Â Perfectly aged, perfectly prepared, perfectly served. Â Â Must have been 3 inches thick, which makes that preparation and service a bit of a trick if you're not watching it. Â Flawless, nuff said.
Mediocrity. That's the only way to describe the entire spectrum of the business at Morton's. From the moment you walk into the basement of the building to enter the restaurant (completely unlike at Nicky Blaine's where -- with ancient brass handrails, floor to ceiling red velvet curtains and the smell of cigars -- you know you're entering someplace special), you're inundated with underwhelming meh-ishness.
I know I may sound petty, but with appetizers in the $15-20 range, I expect not just better, but at least a step above. Take, for example, filets inside sesame seed buns they seemingly stole from a skid off the McDonald's supply truck: laughably overcooked, dry, and in the case of one of the four slivers of bread almost devoid of meat. The only redeeming app is a plate of fried chicken strips with "fancy" mayonnaise. And that's not saying much. Well drinks are Gordon's and Beam. I think you get the hint of how the whole experience went. For this money, there are plenty of possible options. If you have the expense account, just go half a block further to Fogo de Chao.
This was our second visit, and the service this time was as adequate as last time. Not at all friendly, forgetful (like of the extra, paid-for stuffed olives in the "martinis" (served on the rocks...that's called a cocktail, not a martini just FYI, Morton's) left out both times), and not at all attentive. This is Applebee's service at its best.
I have no idea why this steakhouse chain is rated so highly. IMHO, if you've been to ANY of the downtown steak establishments outside of this place, you'd realize this is at the bottom. If you've ever been to St. Elmo's, you (hopefully) realize it's head, shoulders AND torso above Morton's.
If you're tempted to stop here, just keep on walking to Illinois between Maryland and Georgia. You'll know you've hit the right place as soon as you step in to St. Elmo's.
Best steak I've ever had. Â The drinks are over-priced, but everything else was just incredible.
We had the seafood platter to start and filet mignon for dinner with a side of asparagus and potatoes lyonnaise . Â The filet was cooked perfectly medium rare, the asparagus was just al dente enough, and the potatoes were extremely flavorful in a bacon lyonnaise sauce. Â
The only thing I don't like about high priced restaurants are the high priced drinks that go along with it. Â I mean, a vodka tonic here is going to be the same as the local dive bar so why charge so much?
The noise level was a little high because of the Moto GP crowd in town, but I would imagine that this would be typically a very quiet place to eat. Â My wife and I still had a very romantic dinner and the service was impeccable. Â I would absolutely return.
I hate the standard menu presentation. Treat me like a three year old who has never been to a steak house and I will leave a bad Yelp review. Overpriced and oversized. Take your extreme sized filet and eat it yourself. Be brave - cut the size in half and the price by a third. My dog does not need $70/pound left over filet.
Check out the asparagus - you think one half inch thick asparagus is a luxury - come on! Thin asparagus cooked correctly is much better.
The salad I had was nice. Maybe I had relaxed from the 10 minute presentation by then.
so my bff n i went out for my birthday for dinner. we were on a mission to find some good steak. mind you, we are dressed in jeans and t shirts casually walking around downtown. we went into a couple places and they all had like an hour wait time to be seated! so the other businesses suggests to go to mortons. we end up there and damn it they were so damn expensive and fancy... we ended up leaving cuz i got scared of the live lobster they showed us.
Review Source:I had an excellent Valentine's Day dinner with my wife and her parents this past Monday. Â We were able to get a reservation easily and the staff was completely accommodating once we arrived. Â My father-in-law has a scooter and they addressed his comfort without spectacle. Â We were treated to valet service for packing as well. Â
Our food was spectacular as I ordered a Chicago ribeye that was cooked perfectly. Â The sides of baked potato, asparagus, and creamed spinach were all devoured (to the best of our ability) as the appetizers were quite filling. Â I had oysters on the half-shell and also enjoyed a wedge salad with thousand island dressing. Â Any specific food or preparation request was observed. Â No cheese on my salad, then no problem!
I love the service, in particular service from Keia. Â The maitre'd staff was also very friendly and accommodating. Â They understood the "holiday" and we very respectively to the requests throughout our dinner.
Mortons!!! Â Excellent service, food, drinks. Yes,it costs a little but,it is worth the money. The steaks are to die for and my daughter ordered salmon that was wonderfully prepared. The salad was fresh, the bread was hot, and the drinks were damn good . The creamed spinach was too peppery for us and it was taken off the bill with no questions asked. If it your birthday be sure to tell them and get a huge free dessert.
Review Source:Even though I am a seafood lover, Â every once in a while I crave a good steak. Â this is always one of the 1st places that come to mind. I am not the type to go ga-ga over chain restaurants but I have to admit my experience here never disappoints me. Â
My finance and I, and everyone we have ever introduced to the PRIME RIB drools just thinking about it. The Prime rib is only available on Fridays and Saturdays. Â I would highly recommend calling them and not only getting a reservation for a table, but reserving your prime rib ahead of time because when they are out they are out for the night! It is one of the largest most delicious morsels of meat ever. Â I definitely can eat it over 2 meals as it is so large! Â I usually order it medium-rare and eat the edges and that way the leftover can still be reheated for lunch the next day yet not one bit overcooked. Â The prime rib by itself is usually about $49. The filets and ribeyes are about $38-45.
Lobster is my all time favorite thing to eat.  They serve it for between $24-29/pound which is not bad, but the killer is that sometimes the smallest lobster is about 4-7lbs. Their typical way of preparing it is split down the middle then grilled, which I think dries out some of the meat. It's good, but  I prefer mine where I can taste the natural flavors of the lobster and not an ounce over cooked so I usually request them to steam it. Â
The sides here are all big enough to be shared. Â Asparagus, Garlic Green Beans, Broccoli, Creamed Spinach, Spinach & Mushrooms
Sauteed Button Mushrooms, Baked Potato, Hashbrown, Lyonnaise Potatoes, Â Mashed Potatoes and Steak Fries. Â I love the asparagus with the hollandaise sauce! The broccoli is literally the whole stalk you would find at the grocery store.
For the appetizers I would recommend the Broiled Scallops wrapped in Bacon, Shrimp Cocktail, Jumbo lump crab cake, or the Maine Lobster cocktail!
Sometimes they have the special surf and turf for $99, and it is totally worth it. Â They email you about it if you are on the list and sometimes they will lay an advertisement on your table. Â They don't always truly advertise it but ask your waiter and they can tell you if it is going on. Â It is meant for 2 people to share and includes a salad, 2 steaks, 2 appetizers, 1 potato, 1 vegetable dish, and 2 desserts. Â This is totally worth it. Â You can upgrade the steaks that are offered as well too.
The prime ocean platter is amazing too but note that it is all seafood served over ice. Â So if you don't like cold seafood, you can ask them to warm something up if you prefer. They now have a baked version too but it doesn't include the same items and i'm not as familiar with it. The chilled one includes oysters, lobster (chix size), lump crab meat, cocktail shrimp, king crab legs and runs between 43-130 dollars depending on which size you want. Â You can get it as an appetizer for the table or I normally get it for dinner if I'm craving a little of everything. Â
Vu and Kia have been there forever it seems like and they are both amazing waiters. Â I would request one of them when you call in to make your reservation if possible as they know everything about the menu and the bar drinks too.
Half price appetizers in the bar too and many of the items are only $5 and they always have some type of drink specials. Â Call them for the hours because it changes a lot. they use to have free prime rib sandwiches but they discontinued that a few years ago. Â
There is a private party room you can rent out too if you  have a larger group.
Morton's consistently delivers the best steaks in Indianapolis. Sure, they're a chain - but an exceptional experience nonetheless. The previous poster is absolutely correct, they are expensive. But to compare them unfavorably to Ruth's Chris is just wrong.
Their steaks are properly aged and of the highest quality. They also are very large, as are all of the side portions. The setting is classic Chicago steakhouse elegant, and the wait staff reflect that image beautifully. Steaks are seared at an exceptionally high heat, giving them that slightly caramelized/nutty quality that I personally find very appealing - and the cuts are very think and very well marbled, making them exceptionally juicy and flavorful. The penultimate steak experience, whether you go for the fillet, the porterhouse, the NY strip, or the popular rib eye. The fish is prepared very nicely, although to be honest I've only had bites from my dates seafood entrees - who goes to Mortons for fish? Well, if you do, the fish is also excellent, but ...
Their dessert menu changes often - most is made in house although some items are not (cheesecakes, to be specific). Your waiter will be glad to tell you which items are prepared on-site.
The restaurant is VERY small, although it doesn't feel so small due to its thoughtful architecture. It's right next to Conseco Field house, making it a very popular pre-game dinner spot - but is also a destination restaurant for suburbanites who want only the best. Although Peterson's is my favorite Indianapolis-based restaurant; Morton's is my overall favorite place to eat in town
Morton's is always great. But, they need to work on their Italian wine list. Â You can always have a wide price range of quality Bordeaux & Rhone selections. Â But the Italian variets are heavily weighted on the high end of the price spectrum. Â For example, not a single Piedmonte wine for under $300. Â Not even a Barbera? Â It seems the Morton's wine list is the same at most locations.
Review Source:Food was awesome. The crab cake was all wonderful crab and very little filler, shrimp was huge and great. Service and timing of the meal was not good. At a restaurant of this caliber you should not be stacking your plates up hoping they will finally clear them nor should you wait 50 minutes for your first course. Steak was perfect, asparagus was bad. The Â
Carrot cake is heaven on a plate!
Holy cow. We selected Morton's for  my parents 50th anniversary dinner. My goodness, what a meal. Although very pricey, the quality and quantity of food was amazing. We were treated like royalty all evening. The steak was perhaps the best I've ever eaten. Honestly, the price point normally would exclude me from such a establishment, but for special occasions, I would highly recommend Morton's. FYI - the side dishes can easily be shared by 2-3 people.
Review Source:I can't believe I have not written a review here! Â Well, my most recent trip was for happy hour. Â You can get Morton's Prime Burger for $15 in the bar. Â Here are their current happy hour specials.
$5
Iceberg Wedge Bites
Blue Cheese Steak Fries
Chicken Goujonettes
$6
Mini Crab Cake BLT's
Smoked Salmon Pizza
Three Prime Cheeseburgers
Four Petite Filet Mignon Sandwiches
My wife and went to Morton's last night for her birthday. Â It was as good as everyone has said. Â The portions are huge and great. Â The wedge salad was one of the best I have ever had. Â The steak was cooked to perfection, often I have to order a steak rare to get medium rare but this place does it right. Â The sides are wonderful and service was as wonderful, but you expect that from such a quality restaurant. Â The night cost a little but for a special occasion it was more the worth it. Â A great night with a great meal.
Review Source:I came here with my other half when she had a big project from work. Â She was sent here by her company to handle some business! Well, they gave her the company card, so I decided to go with her and we went to town in Morton's. Â The presentation of the steaks while you order was great. Â They show you all the different cuts of steaks, and you just point out which one you want. Â My wife ordered some chicken dish. Â Overall, my experience was great! Â Steak was to my liking. Â Service was excellent. Â I would go back again, if the company pays for us again lol.
Review Source:This is probably my favorite steak place in downtown Indianapolis, and I've eaten at just about all of them. Morton's is a chain, and the service and preparation can vary by city. I'm happy to say that I've eaten at this one at least a half dozen times, and they've always done everything exactly right. My favorite is the new york strip, prepared medium, with a glass of the Beringer Private Reserve Cabernet.
Maybe this place doesn't have the history that St. Elmo has, but I think it's got St. Elmo beat on service, preparation, and ambiance.
I have eaten at Morton's on two different occasions, both were amazing experiences. I am not a huge red meat fan, so I tend to avoid steakhouses but this one is phenomenal. Â For the Indy area and having eaten at the likes of Ruth's Chris, St. Elmo's and Moe's, this is my very favorite! Â
The table service and waitstaff are impeccable and they allow you to choose your own piece of steak from a plate they bring to your table. Â This can be a bit overwhelming, but the wait staff is patient and completely helpful. Â We went with a group and we all shared sides, which I love, so I can try a little of everything. Â We got mashed potatoes, au gratin potatoes, green beans and asparagus. Â All were wonderful.
My filet was cooked perfectly medium and melted in my mouth. Â I always get my steak oscar style and it was AMAZING...the crab meat was tender and it made my meal unique and special. Â
I looooove desserts and Morton's has so many to choose from...the cheesecake is to die for!!
The wine list is exceptional and not overpriced. Â The rest of the menu is pricey but I do think that this is a great place for Valentine's day, anniversaries or other special occasions. Â We are planning on celebrating Christmas Eve here and I am VERY much looking forward to the meal!
I'm not a red meat eater, so when my boss picked a steakhouse for his going away/big promotion dinner, I wasn't very thrilled with the prospect. Â Morton's is way more than just a steakhouse though and everyone in our party of 6 found something they liked. Â Â I think you also enjoy a meal a little more when it's on the company and no one bats an eye when you order a $40 entree and the drinks are flowing freely!
Service was fantastic and since we were the only diners in the whole restaurant, everyone was very attentive but they also let us have our own space. Â Our waitress explained the menu with ease, offered suggestions when we asked and overall was very accommodating. Â The only thing I had a problem with was when they wheeled out the cart with the different cuts of meat on it and there was a live lobster just sitting there. Â That's not something I care to see right before I eat!!
As far as the food goes, I wasn't too impressed with my meal.  I ordered  the grilled asparagus for an appetizer which had a balsamic glaze that overpowered the asparagus, and the crab cakes for my entree.  The crab cakes were pretty much all crab, which is the way they should be, but I found them to be way under seasoned.  Everyone else at the table seemed to enjoy their food though.
Before we left, we asked our server to take a picture of us and she offered to take a picture with their camera and make a copy of the picture for each of us! Â So we all left with a full belly, a souvenir photo of the gang and all of the $$ in our pockets that we came in with! Â Overall, a pretty good night!
We came here for a dinner that was sponsored by two vendors. Big thanks to them especially giving Keith Y a very high limit which to buy a bottle of wine. Dinner was excelent. The large group was servicer well. Â The night started with two seafood platters per table of oysters, jumbo shrimp, lobster tail and claw. Bread was served next. The entry was green bean, smashed potatoes and your choice of chicken, filet or NY Strip. I went with the filet medium rare which was more medium. It was still pretty taste with bearnaise sause. NY cheesecake followed. We drank wine from Cayamas, Far Niente, Insignia. There was a few people that really "stuck" it to the vendors as they ordered Louis XIV. Â Missed out on stealing a taste from somone. Â I wish i could review the vendors, but they really went all out for this group of their most recognized customers.
