O'Reilly's Irish Bar And Restaurant

This is the sort of place that I shouldn't like, but I do. I'm not sure what it is. It's kind of your run of the mill sports bar, but then again they have a couple of crafts on draft most of the time. The other night I got a couple of pints of Sierra Nevada Torpedo for $4 each. That's not too shabby. Their food is obviously not all that fancy, but I like it. When you want some grease to soak up your beer you're set. My favorite is the fried buffalo tenders. I'm sure there is nothing healthful about them, but so what, I'm active, I can take it. Now that it's no longer smoking (by force) I will probably go more often.

Stopped in here for dinner before the Big Ten football championship. They had a very limited menu that night, which was pretty disappointing. I was jonesing for a Reuben but had to settle for grilled cheese. Service was quick and the food was passable. Beer was cheap. Not sure if I would go back or not.

If this place caters to industry folks, it's only because those folks know where to go for genuine food and beer. It's not fancy, but it's not supposed to be. If you want pretentious go over to Nicky Blaines (are they still open??). O'Reilly's is genuine. So, if you have any kind of stick up your ass, leave it at the door. If you don't want to deal with cigarette smoke and the occasional drunk asshole, I suggest...well, I'm not even sure why you're in a bar.

The bartenders and servers do a good job. I'm in only occasionally and I'm remembered and welcomed warmly. It doesn't take long to become a regular, and it's worth it.
