I really thought I had already gotten a review written for O'Dowd's last summer when we were on our tour of bread puddings around the city. Â Not sure how I totally missed writing this one up!
These guys have, by far, our favorite bread pudding in town. Â It's all about the butter sauce, makes it absolutely decadent. Â Combined with a car bomb and the occasional Dublin Coddle they have on the specials menu, and we are in gluttonous comfort food heaven.
We've only actually had meals there a couple of times, but they have been great as well. Â
The upstairs patio can get a little too crowded for comfort when it's nice out, but at night when the crowd has died down, it is great.
A couple friends and I stopped here on a Friday afternoon for a couple pints of Guinness. It was busier than you would think, but maybe that's because I am not used to being at a bar on a weekday afternoon.
It has all the signs of an Irish pub. It really does a good job trying, which is all you can ask for in Kansas City (and really anywhere outside of Ireland, for that matter). It's comfortable, well decorated, and definitely gives off the Irish pub feel.
We bellied up to the bar and grabbed two rounds of Guinness. They were poured pretty well - a bit quick for Guinness, but certainly not a full pour immediately. I would say they were mostly properly poured. The Guinness was good, but not great. The service was good, but not great.
I would return, but would not make a trip to the Plaza specifically for O'Dowd's.
We were told to trek down to the Plaza during our visit to KC, so on St. Patrick's Day we drove down to check it out for the afternoon before we moved closer to downtown for our actual St. Paddy's Day celebrating. Â This was our plan. Â In reality, we happened to see this place while we were eating lunch across the street (yes, CPK is a cliche chain but I haven't been to one in years. Â Don't hate.) Â We then decided to come here, "just for a drink" we told ourselves. Â Seven hours later.....
But literally.  I'm sure there are more "authentic" Irish bars in town, but this place was fun.  They had a  DJ out front of the bar, underneath an outdoor tent complete with a "mini'bar" serving car bombs.  Unfortunately, it was raining and FREEZING, so there was no booty-shaking this St. Paddy's Day.  However, there was a GREAT Irish band on the main floor of the bar.  The bar patrons were diverse and all over the age spectrum, but absolutely everyone was having a great time.  The band was hands-down the best part, but there was also another area with a bar on the roof; this section of the bar had heat lamps, so I didn't completely freeze to death.  I will admit, if I had come here on any day other than St. Pat's, I probably wouldn't have thought it was so great.  But I did and we had an amazing time!
The service was poor, the plates were overpriced and the food was average. Â I have given two stars as the corned beef on the Reuben, although lacking flavor, was not chewy, as is often times the case. Â I expect a little more from a place parading as an irish pub. Â The next time I want fish and chips, I'll go to long johns where I won't pay 12 for two filets and fries. Â Tasty? Yes. Worth the up charge? No way
Review Source:Went in one October 4. It was a very chilly night for early fall. Dining room and bar was full down stairs. They did mention that there was the covered heated patio on the roof we said okay. It looked like we were the first ones up there all day as the bartender was sitting on a counter but that's cool with me. The heaters put out a lot of heat and was very comfortable. Had the Irish stew and it was delicious. Only downfall...you can't cook lamb and beef together and expect them to both be tender. Beef was super tender and delicious. Lamb was tough and overcooked. Still had great flavor though. Would've been five stars if the lamb would've been more tender and if our waitress was a little better. She was very quiet and hardly checked up compared to the other waitress working the deck.
Review Source:Dear O'Dowd's -
Your Guinness is too cold, and it's not properly poured. Your bartenders are disinterested, concerned with getting the job done too quickly, just as they've been trained. And what's this? Served in a plastic cup? Blasphemous. One of the world's great beers deserves better treatment.
I bet the crowd is terrific on St. Pat's Day, green plastic hats aplenty--the smell of pi** and stout laced vomit wafting in from the jakes, where many a man threw up a week's wages--oh wait, that's one of the introductory paragraphs from the great novel Angela's Ashes.
Not my kind of place. This isn't approaching anything close to an Irish pub, and yes, I have toured Ireland. All the visual trappings to lull visitors into thinking it's some place special. Nothing more than a theme restaurant where the emphasis is some kind of phony atmosphere. The food is nothing more than average grub off the truck.
I'm sure there's a crowd out there that this is good enough for them. I'm not one of them.
I really enjoy a night out at O'Dowd's. It can be a little rough in there (I've seen a few fights in there), but overall the DJs and bands I've seen have been good. It is a great place to dance or spend time on the rooftop.
The employees are typically helpful. I've called about a lost camera and to make sure they'd take my temp KS license.
While in the "Plaza area", I saw O'Dowd's and felt compelled to drop in for an afternoon drink and bite because it is nearly impossible for me to pass on an Irish bar.
However, despite my affinity for Irish pubs, O'Dowd's was a bit of a let down. Â
This disappointment  was a surprise to me considering the establishment's fantastic decor and warm atmosphere...  I could easily see the joint being  a great meet up for a happy hour or good place to "start" a night of shenanigans.  In addition to the decor, the establishment has a great selection of food and spirits.
So what didn't I like? Â My disappointment in this place can be summarized by:
-The grilled hunt club lacked a distinct or enjoyable flavor... It was bland and rather tasteless.
-Bloody Mary's are normally a hearty drink used to assuage a Sunday hangover. Â However, at O'Dowd's, a Bloody Mary is served in a tiny glass meant for a "Jack n Coke".
-The wait staff was slightly awkward and off-putting.
Nonetheless, I will give this place 3 stars because I truly believe my let down was a rarity... Â I will return in order to confirm this suspicion.
Stopped into O'Dowds for a couple quick ones after a bbq lunch at Jack Stacks. Â Good pub feel, impressive array of whiskys. Â A good place to waste a couple hours out of the sun while waiting to head for the airport. Â Bartender was opinionated and funny, could have been a little more engaging, but so could have we. Â
Decent prices on Scotch, food looked good but we didn't partake. Â Music was what I've termed the KC medley - Counting Crows, Dave Matthews mix. Â Ok for afternoon cocktails, but not what I generally like to listen to.
All in all, I liked the place.
I came to Kansas City for a business trip and wanted to find a bar to catch the NBA Playoffs. O'Dowd's is a typical Irish bar with the same decor and whiskey drinks. On a warm night the patio upstairs is really nice with several TVs and tables. When I came on Tuesday and Wednesday the clientele was older business professionals
Review Source:This place would get more stars if they didn't charge a $5 cover (for what, to sit on the patio?!) and their bartenders would crack a smile or be mildly friendly. We went here Saturday with a group of friends for my fiance's birthday. The door guys were rude, just said "5 bucks" and swiped our ID without even speaking to any of us. We made our way upstairs because we wanted a table on the patio and were lucky enough to snag one after about 5 minutes. They only had one poor cocktail waitress up there and the patio was PACKED. Drinks took a little longer than normal but we understood since she was the only one. I ordered a few drinks from the bar (a little pricey, even for the Plaza) and the 2 male bartenders seriously looked like they hated their life. I'm a bartender also and I understand bad nights and all, but jesus. It was a beautiful night and you have people lined up to give you money. Lighten up!
I'd say this place has one of the best patios on the Plaza, that it's a rooftop is just a bonus!
Walking in to an empty restaurant on the day after St. Pat's to blaring frat rock, I thought my O'Dowd's experience was going to be utterly awful.
My two friends and I had hoped to catch a friend of theirs waitressing, but since it was so definitively dead, she had been sent home early. Â We decided to settle in anyway and grab a beer, as well as something snacky, but the waitress told us the kitchen was closing up already. Â Grr, okay. Â We handed over our ID's, the waitress paused, and then told us she needed to take them over to the manager. Â I could feel my annoyance levels rising like the swells of the Hinder song playing overhead.
And that's when our O'Dowd's experience turned a corner. Â I am really sensitive about my ID being scrutinized, because the picture in my driver's license was taken almost seven years ago, and NOBODY looks like they did when they were nineteen. Â I've been accused of using a fake or someone else's because I've gained weight since then. Â Let me tell you, being scolded by a grocery clerk because you want to buy a six-pack and weeping over the check signing stand isn't a fun experience. Â I thought it was going to turn into one of Those Times.
But it didn't. Â The manager came over and was VERY polite about the whole thing--the waitress just wasn't very confident at looking at Texas ID's and wanted to make sure they were genuine. Â No problem on that. Â Then the waitress told us she'd talked to the kitchen, and if we wanted to get an appetizer off a limited menu, we could do that. Â One of the suggestions was the item we wanted to order in the first place, the spinach and artichoke dip. Â Score!
The rest of our time there was actually really pleasant. Â Our waitress was really nice, and since we were the only people there, she chatted with us, made sure we were plied with drink. Â Needless to say we left a big tip. Â It could have been a miserable experience, but I left with very good feelings towards this place.
So thanks for the turnaround, O'Dowd's. Â Hope to catch you on a trad music night next time I'm in town (100% less Hinder guaranteed).
This is your typical American-Irish pub. Â They have all the decorations you'd expect, along with the weathered wooden booths and dark corners, and taps that pour dark gold into mugs for thirsty patrons. Â Overall - I was psyched to hit this place up.
First, the music was amazing, genuine, Irish music. Â I had two friends from England with me who had plenty of relatives from Ireland, and they were really surprised how good the music was. Â Good job, O'Dowd's, you aced the test!
Other than the music, the place was A-ok. Â They were out of stock of a couple of our favorite beers, which was unfortunate, and it took us about fifteen minutes before we were waited on, and awhile longer to get our drinks. Â We just did one round here because of that. Â Additionally, be prepared for prices that are a little high even when compared to other Plaza locations, or hit up some of their happy hour specials, which looked pretty good. Â
It was a fun little place to stop and soak in some great music, and drink a couple beers. Â I just wish the service would've been a little better, and their selection a little less dilapidated. Â I certainly wouldn't mind heading there again, and giving them another go!
I almost ache in my heart when I read "bad" reviews about this place! Â Maybe they didn't have the luck of the Irish in them, but I cannot tell a lie when I say I actually crave this place!
I am from KC and now live over 800 miles from O'Dowd's, and yet still it haunts me with thick smells of bangers and mash and a thick and creamy Guinness! Â
Located in the historic Plaza, this location offers up traditional Irish fare plus a few "bar/grille" favorites. Â They have a full selection of beers and whiskey to satisfy even the toughest of Irish drinkers! Â The decor may even take you to the middle of Dublin...with the dark woods and little nooks and crannies to snug up in on a snowy day, it's the place to grab a pint and classic fish and chips, and chow down.
As we explored the Plaza, upon asking a few people for restaurant suggestions we were directed to O'Dowd's Irish Pub. Â The atmosphere is that of a pub and with the Chiefs home opener happening, every TV was tuned in making the pub lively with sports fans.
My husband ordered the burger and I ordered the buffalo chicken sandwich and there wasn't anything spectacular about either one. Â He was happy to see a pale ale on the beer list which was not bad priced as well.
Our waitress seemed a bit down and out of it but the rest of the staff was very cheerful and friendly. Â Found out that O'Dowds has the best nightlife if you're out and about the Plaza on the weekends.
So for newbies to the Plaza, this pub fit us just fine.
Visited the O'Dowds on the plaza and the one in Zona Rosa today. I ate dinner at the one on the plaza, drinks on the upstairs patio at the one in Zona Rosa. This was a Thursday evening and I got there around 9:00 pm. There were some people in there, but it wasn't packed. The bar was fairly full but I found a seat.
Food: normal bar fare with sandwiches and burgers. They also have a Irish bend to the menu so they have reubens, and other various options that you would expect to see in a Irish pub. Of course they have Harp, Guinness and other dark beers on tap.
I ordered the hunt club sandwich which had grilled chicken breast and I believe ham. It was really good. I had had the reuben at the one in Zona earlier in the week and it to was quite tasty.
Servers each place each time have always been pleasant. I normally deal with the bartenders and they are always attentive.
Ambience: this day there was a band at the one on the plaza, but I was still able to hear the person next to me so it wasn't too loud. If they had been louder it would have ruined the experience. The last time I was at the one on Zona the band drowned out any conversation which pretty much forced me to kind of just sit there. 2 of the friends I went with that night were literally texting each other because the music was so loud. This isn't a O'Dowds function mind you, but rather the par for the course with most bands in bars. Â I don't think I have ever seen any kids here so it is not much of a family bar.
Price: maybe a little higher priced than other bars, but you are also getting better ingredients / food and the Guinness beers are generally a little pricier in general. I paid $30 for the beer and grilled chicken club.
I sympathize with those who bemoan an "Irish-themed sports bar", but O'Dowd's on The Plaza definitely ain't "Buffalo Wings". Besides, an Irish pub is supposed to have a football game on the telly.
The Pennsylvania Avenue location has a better feel than the newer O'Dowd's at Zona Rosa; its not as new and it feels suitably worn. As long as the atmosphere is reasonably done, the only things I care about at an Irish pub are the beer and the food. Â
O'Dowd's, the last time I was in (I have lunch here), served Murphy's Stout, the supply of which seems to be a problem in Kansas City because of continuing issues with distributors. Â If you like Guinness, you will LOVE Murphy's.
The Irish portion of the menu is very good and hearty: Irish Stew (with lamb and beef); Bangers and Mash (pork sausage, mashed potatoes and peas au gratin); Shepherd's Pie, the Guinness Steak Boxty, and of course, Fish and Chips.
There is a feeling that only Irish food and stout will give you, a warm glow that leaves you feeling simultaneously satisfied and bulletproof, like I could walk back through the gray drizzle into that Welsh slate mine and swing a sledge for the next six hours, then go home and chase Maureen O'Hara around the potato patch. That's the feeling I crave from an Irish meal and that O'Dowd's very nicely provides. I'll get back to work as soon as I've had me a lie-down.
I'll be honest - the crowd at O'Dowds (no I'm not starting a limerick) is a little frat-ish for my taste. I prefer to drink in a quiet environment where I can have a conversation. O'Dowd's is no such place, even when I go in the early dinner hours, as evidenced today by the shrieking horde of young women in the table next to us who forced our poor server to repeat everything she said throughout our meal.
But I'm a substance-over-style kind of guy, and O'Dowd's delivers where it counts: the food. Like every good Irish bar, Guinness is on tap and what I've tried of their menu perfectly suits this fine beverage. On this and past journeys I've tried their shepherd's pie, steak boxty, bangers and mash and the bread pudding. The latter two are particular standouts. They put a unique spin on the old classic simple pub dish, which typically consists of sausage, brown gravy and mashed potatoes. O'Dowd's takes it a step further and drizzles it in a crazy good creamy cheese sauce. The sausage is of the ilk that you'd find in the UK, which might be an acquired taste, but once you've acquired it, nothing else will do. The bread pudding comes out hot and bursting with sweet cinnamon goodness with a dollop of cold whipped cream.
I've only found one other place in KC that "gets" Irish/English pub food: Raglan Road. O'Dowd's isn't quite there (maybe the bread pudding is), but it's damn good nonetheless.
This Irish pub has one of the city's best happy hours on weekdays from 4 - 7 pm. Â All of the small plates (appetizers) are half price. and the house wines are discounted. Â The house wines surprisingly are Trinity Oak, which are better than most house wines, and even at non-happy-hours priced very reasonably here. Â Of course they have Guiness on draft. Â But if you have ever had Guiness in Ireland, you know what that wonderful beer can be, when really fresh. Â It doesn't travel or age well. Â The small plates are large and first rate, including the black mussels and the smoked salmon. Â
As an entree, I ordered the fish of the day. Â It was average (perhaps frozen), but very reasonably priced. Â Next time I'll ask when the fish of the day came in before deciding. Â In contrast, there is no need to ask at McCormick and Schmick's, where all of the seafood on the menu is always very fresh, but of course more expensive . Â The rooftop deck is popular for the view, although they do permit smoking up there, including cigars. Â There is entertainment every evening starting at 9 pm, with a cover charge to enter.
They have a "build your own salad" option---not a salad bar. Â You choose what you want, and they build it for you. Â Interesting idea.
Love / Hate!
That's my description of O'Dowds. I really enjoy the rooftop of O'Dowds at this location (perfectly sized and directionally perfect for some rays) and find the downstairs completely desolate and difficult to tolerate. I haven't had a piece of food here that makes me want to try any either. That being said, you won't see me here in the cooler seasons.
This is a must stop when I begin a Kansas City patio tour. (Yes, that's what I call it when I go drinking all day on a Sunday.) I don't seem to ever run into cheap beers (or parked cars) when I go to O'Dowds. So it's a give a little, take a little...
Side note, the patio will be closed here soon for about 3 weeks for a complete remodel. Although I hear they won't be adding a restroom upstairs - this is a must in my opinion. Please reconsider KC Hopps group.
O'Dowds has a rooftop deck, and cheap happy hour specials. Â This should be enough for at least a three star review.
As I sat there today drinking my 2.75 draw, I felt bemused by the whole situation. Â This truly is the greatest cross-section of people in the Kansas City area. Â
The only downside to this place is that they had Mix 93.3 playing from the speakers. Â Commercial breaks in the music are not your friend while drinking. Â Not sure why they can't hook up someone's ipod or splurge for satellite radio.
I feel a little strange complaining about this, as I am an on-again-off-again smoker, but the cigar smoke at this place is a total downer. I know you can't really control for this, but it was a little overwhelming today out on the deck.
As it turns out there IS a fun bar in the Plaza... I usually don't frequent this area too often because the bars/restaurants seem a little stuffy or boring, but I'm glad I made it out to O'Dowds for a night out. Usually I'm totally "anti" bars with covers, but the five dollars [graciously paid by my friend Erin since I was cashless] was well worth it! It's a crowded little joint on a Friday night considering it was snowing like crazy.
The live band playing ridiculous pop music was really fun to dance to. They did a good job keeping us entertained and our feet moving. The bartenders were nice. The general decor and layout was pleasing. High tables were abound which is key when you are standing talking to friends, but want to set your glass down for a minute.
Sure there was a creepy guy looming about our group of girlfriends, but you'll have that. If you build it they will come, right? Yet, the overall crowd of people was pleasant and cheerful. Everyone was friendly and I had funny conversations with strangers throughout the night. It was a great time. O'Dowd's might just be the only thing bringing me back out to the Plaza on a weekend night!
I have been here both for a meal and to merely drink and be merry. Â Both aspects are lots of fun. Â There are better places to get food and better places to go drink, but O'Dowds seems to blend the two quite well.
The food is tasty, if a little underwhelming at times due to theri attempts to americanize the flavors of Ireland. Â However, the star is really going out there on a Friday or Saturday night for a few drinks. Â The music will be loud and obnoxious, but this is the sort of place where that works on every level, especially with reasonably priced drinks and efficient bartenders.
I have been therea a few times already and will probably go back again.
So I don't usually expect much in a culinary sense from an "Irish" bar in the States, but this one definitely surprised me. Â
The first time I ate here was shortly after a trip to Ireland, and my husband and I were trying to shake our Guinness habit and sorely craving it. Â We were surprised to find out the food here is actually very good! Â The fish & chips aren't bad, and the Irish stew is DIVINE! Â It's made with both beef and tender chunks of lamb. Â
Of course O'dowds is a great place to enjoy the patio, or nestle up in the dark corner inside if you're feeling anti-social. Â And the have free wireless, as well. Â What more could you want?
This place was great!
The food was wonderful too! One of us got the Ruben which was GREAT, and I ordered the rosemary chicken which was very fresh and healthy tasting. Not heavy at all.
Also- the caramelized onion and goat cheese tart is a MUST. It was great.
They also have a Guinness ice cream desert which I vetoed- however if you love Guinness I hear it is scrumptious.
Drinks were good and it was a little loud but in a fun and exciting way.
Service was great, staff was going around making sure everyone was happy with their food/drinks and always had a smile. Â And I love smiles!
Good!
This is definitely a better place to drink rather than to eat. They have some Irish food, but of course being the unadventurous person that I am, I just got a burger, which wasn't that good-- it was a little dry. I guess I should have tried a more Irish-type food, but I just wasn't feeling it.
We did get our food really quickly and the server was really attentive.
They usually have pretty reasonably-priced beers and I think there are some specials on certain nights of the week- I don't remember the one when we went. (I know, some helpful yelper I am! :) )
I love Pub Food.... correction, I love fatty pub food (wait... i don't think non-fatty pub food exists... unless we're talking about caviar served in the old days). What I like more than pub food is a good beer. Now, combine pub food, beer, and smoking section all in to one and I'm in heaven. Seriously, who dosn't like fatty foods, good bear and a place that let's you smoke?
Well, KC life is frustrating... everyone is so damn nice and slow that it gets on my nerves. I want them to be mean and move faster. i forget that I'm in the mid west sometimes.... I miss mean people and faster paced life style
NEWAYS.... This place has to be one of my top 5 fav. places to go in KC. I had pot of mussles to start and we ordered 3 entrees: Irish Stew, Fish and Chips and Bangers and Hash. It was consumed before I could order another round. I think that just explains it all....
I liked this place. Â No doubt I should have found a BBQ place on my short trip to Kansas City, but I was soccer hungry as the Euro's wer on and I had missed many midweek games.
As usual, I walked in thinking that everyone would know that the Euro's (European National Championships 2008) were on, but the manager and hostess knew nothing of it. Â Nonetheless they wer happy to accommodate. Â
I sat at the bar, and the bartender Alex(?) was happy to turn it on and even turn up the volume so that I could hear the commentary. Â Midday the place was pretty empty except for a few stragglers and a guy in a Germany Jersey. Â Better time to chat with the bartender and drink a pint. Â
I tried the Bangers and Mash, which was good, but a little experimental. Meaning have the mashed potatoes were covered in brown sauce (traditional) and half covered in an Alfredo-like sauce (experimental). Â Did not care for the Alfredo combination but all else was good. Â Stella Artois was not available, but tried a local Boulevard Pale Ale. Â Not bad...and got some history from the bartender.
The decor was the usual, but good Irish look. Â I like the fact that they had different sections, such as bar seating, high tops, a booth area, and a living room area.
Dafe
Maybe I shouldn't review O'Dowd's, since I've never eaten here. Â But as a veggie, if I tried to eat a meal I think I'd be limited to the hummus sampling. Â So we'll just go with what I know: Â Booze.
I try to stay away from O'Dowd's most nights. Â A cover is never your friend, and I've been here on nights when it's $10 (!)...I know you have to pay your bands, but it's just not usually conducive to me and my friend's nightly plan. Â To their credit, half the time I have been here the bands playing have been really fun and played great cover songs that everyone danced to. Â I guess the downside to that is the other half of times I've been here the music is much too loud for the already overcrowded bar.
However, I AM going to have to give it up for sun-shiney afternoons on the rooftop deck--with a delicious Summer Beer in hand. Â Watch out, the bartender can be pretty generous with the Citron portion. Â What a fun way to spend a warm Sunday Funday afternoon.
The best Irish pubs in the Kansas City area. It's always a good time here with a big crowd of people you know. From friends, co-workers, to yoga instructors, chances are you'll see them here. This is not one of those places where you go to have a quiet night to yourself or even just a place for you and your date to grab a drink. This is more of a get-wasted-and-yell-alot-at-people-you-know-and-Âsome-whom-you-don't-know, kind of place. It gets incredibly crowded on evenings and especially weekend evenings. On busy nights cover is charged, which I think is about the most un-Irish Pub thing to do.
I just wanted to note that any bar that claims itself to be Irish Pub worthy will never get a full 5 stars while it charges cover.
They'd get five stars if the place didn't turn into an unrecognizable frat-club every Friday and Saturday night. Â Do yourself a favor and get there before they start charging a cover, 9pm.
The place, otherwise, is great. Â I call it my favorite KC bar before 9pm. Â Get a hidden away booth, listen to your waitress knowing more than you ever will about the booze you're draining, sit back and enjoy those perfect pints.
There is an old Irish proverb that says "Hunger is a tasty sauce." Â And when I am hungry for Irish I dream of O'Dowd's Corned Beef and Cabbage. Curious D. did a great review so I don't have much to add except a few photos and my enthusiasm for this four leaf clover of restaurants. What better place to have a Guinness but at an Irish pub that serves great food. Since it is located on the plaza it is also fun to walk around a bit before or after your meal. I have never had a chance to be there when they have the live music but I am sure it is a blast.

I don't live in Kansas City anymore but if there's one thing I miss, it's the menu and live Irish music at O'Dowd's on the plaza!! Â I used to work there so I was lucky to get to try lots'o' things. Â I especially liked the Shepard's Pie, Monte Cristo sandwich, Corned Beef and Cabbage and the IRISH WHISKEY CHOCOLATE TORTE!!! Â Yum!! Â It was so rich and tastey, you could easily split it between friends! Â Everyone liked it! Â They also had this special spicey chicken salad but if I remember right, it was only offered on certain special days. Â I also liked the Prime Rib club... ok, I'll stop now! LoL Â I just looked and it seems like they've updated and added things to their menu since I left. Â I'm glad my favorites are still there.
When I worked there, it was my first Irish Pub experience so, I didn't realize that the beers they carry (like Smithwicks, Murphy's and Boddingtons) are not commonly found, even in other so-called 'Irish pubs'. Â They also have an amazing selection of Irish Whiskey, even Middleton!!! Â I'll continue to look for an Irish pub that's as cool and as thorough with their authentic Irish food and drink selection but, I've had no luck so far.
LIVE IRISH MUSIC - I wonder if Eddie Delahunt and his guys still play there on Wed and Sunday nights? Â Those were my favorite nights to work cause I love to listen and sing along when I knew the words. Â There were a lot of really great regulars those nights too. Â Eddie and his guys used to call me 'Bubbles'. Â Haha.
O'dowd's is a great place to eat for lunch and dinner. Â Beware though, on Thur, Fri and Sat nights, it turns into a club basically after 9pm. Â Mostly drinking, partying and dancing. Â
FYI - for all your late night party people... there's another set of large, clean bathrooms in the basement. Haha. Â You don't have to wait in line for the small restrooms by the waitress stand.
