This was a good, laid-back place to hang out on a sunday afternoon. Met a friend here for drinks. Ended up ordering a pitcher of mimosa's for only $10 and it was really yummy! I liked the atmosphere. Our server was great, very attentive and friendly. the door guy was also really cool. Definitely felt comfortable walking in for the first time by myself. I had some kind of santa fe chicken wrap. I would say it was just okay. BUt I was hungry and it satisfied. I wouldn't neccessarily come here specifically for the food, but its definitely a fun place have drinks with friends.

My friends and I enjoy this place as a great start to an evening out.  The prices are reasonable and the staff always seems to be engaging with the customers.  The menu is big with allot of choices... But keep in mind it's bar/pub food...decent though and not overpriced.  The ambience is fitting and there is always a goof flow people.

I come here too much. That's a good thing. Whether it's the Bulls or Bears or Hawks, the game will be on at Rocks. They'll even play your favorite home team's game for all the transplants out there upon request.

Decent food, extensive selection of drinks, and great daily specials keep me coming back to this place. It's always a good time here whether my team wins or loses.

    Descriptive phrase: upscale pub.

I love Rocks. It happens to be very close to my brother's apartment, and I come here any time I'm in Chicago. I've been here just for drinks and for full meals and have had great service regardless.

They have an extensive whiskey selection, and specials on certain nights.

If you're eating, get the Leroy Brown ($10.50). I like trying new things when I go places often,  but I will never try something else here because the Leroy Brown is just too good.

Mac & cheese with bbq pulled pork on texas toast with cheese and onion strings? The only way to make that better is to add the tots on the side.

    I'm literally drooling right now.

The drinks here are FABULOUS. Get the green gobblin!!

The breakfast sliders are TO DIE FOR!!!!  I got one with steak and one with chorizo and in the summer it's great to sit outside on their sidewalk patio. It's a great atmosphere. The inside has a nice atmosphere too. It is very clean cut.

The waitress I had both times was really quite awkward. Not very genuine. Also, yes the brunch was good, but in general it's greasy, unhealthy bar food.. not the best quality.

The food is awesome, I recommend the Leroy Brown as long as you don't have any heart problems. The whiskey and scotch list is great, but can get quite expensive when you get it "on the rock" wich adds $2 for a large ice cube and a little heavier pour.

    Check this place out!

Amazingggggg grilled cheese panini with pesto.  I love it.  Great food selection.  I've also had the actually chopped salad, which is also pretty good.  The atmosphere is fun and loud, great and convenient location.  I've never actually sat outside in the summer , but I will definitely be heading back to this place to check it out once the long Chicago winter comes to an end!

When it comes to a reliable neighborhood pub, Rocks is as good as it gets.  Even if it's a busy Friday night, you can always find a seat, the service is always friendly, fast, and helpful, and on top of it all, the food and drink is great!

My boyfriend and I stop in here often to grab dinner and drinks.  We have decided they definitely have the best burgers and French Onion soup around, and my bf loves their whiskey specials.  I appreciate their great selection of beer and wines.
Also, any place that offers a variety of fries: sweet potato, curly, and tots to name a few, has my love.
Once we even brought his 4-year-old daughter with, and they were super accommodating.

I'm definitely going to want to hit up weekend brunch here soon, and order a pitcher of Mimosas :)

I am never setting foot in this place again.

I went in there with a bunch of friends today towards the end of the Bears games so it was fairly busy. They seated us at a table close to the patio door, which the servers and bus boys used to get to the patio tables.

When I first sat down the waitress almost hit me with the door and got huffy with me because I was in her way. I moved over. A few minutes later, the bus boy was trying to get outside and told me "I wasn't supposed to sit there." Well, they shouldn't have sat a large party by the door! Don't yell at the customer. I did not pick the table, you did! Then when he walked away he yelled at me from halfway across the room, telling me I should I have sat over there, and gestured towards the other side of the restaurant. Who does that? I got so angry I asked to speak to the manager who was very apologetic, but by that point it was too late. I was so angry I decided right then and there - never again. The bus boy later walked up to apologize, but told me I had an "attitude," so it wasn't really an apology. I worked as a waitress for 6 years, all through college and grad school, not once did I speak to a customer this way. They need to hire new people, or they will have no more customers.

Our waitress was only friendly to us by the end of the service... when she first greeted us every one mentioned that they were "scared of her."

I have been going there since they first opened, but my experience today was so bad that I will never go back. I always suggest it to friends and visitors in town, but there are plenty more places to go where you're not treated like crap.

Sorry Rocks, but I would suggest you get a friendlier staff, and train them properly or you're not going to be in business very long.

I had previously dined at Rocks - Lakeview several years ago and for some odd reason I just didn't return.  Not the food or service was bad; I just dined at various other restaurants until recently.

I was doing some errands was walking past so I thought I'd stop in for lunch.  The bartender informed me to sit any place where I wanted.  I decided to sit along the wall with the padded bench and high top tables.  I should have sat at lower table.   Due to the lip on the floor, the table was not able to be moved to the bench.  Not the end of the world.

The water was delivered shortly by the food runner/ busser.  The restaurant is very light due to the many windows facing Broadway Street.  Great foot traffic to watch.  The restaurant seemed to be very clean.  The restaurant had background music on - not loud at all also, various TVs on different channels so you can watch you want to watch.

Shortly, the server (I wish I could remember her name.  She had strawberry blond hair) asked if I was ready.  I was deciding between the Fish n' Chips or the Macaroni Cheesieee. I clearly stated, that I love a great macaroni n' cheese and I rate restaurants on this dish.  I took her suggestion and ordered the mac' cheese and added bacon per her suggestion.

I didn't wait for an extremely long time for my lunch. OMG - the mac'n' cheese was incredible.   The skillet had plenty of creamy cheese, bacon and chicken.  She checked back and I raved how right she was!!  A must dish to try!!  I did not have room for a dessert.

Another patron had asked me about the entrée and I stated, "go for it - incredible".  The staff was very attentive to my and other tables.   The clients were from business men to people for a relaxing lunch.

I will definitely return soon.  This is on my OMG list.  Go and enjoy a relaxing meal.

Always have loved their dinners.  Especially the buffalo chicken wrap.  It is excellent!

-I am reviewing their breakfast.  Honestly, it was really good.  I order the Early Morning Riser Sliders.  The way all the ingredients blend together is amazing.  Egg was perfect, the creamed kale had just enough crisp, and the CHORIZO here is excellent.  Big piece on each sandwich.  These are a must for a Sunday morning!

Overall very pleased with Rocks in Lakeview-  Every time I have come here the service is excellent, the food is always on point, and the drinks are always made excellent!  Staff is super friendly too, hard to come by these days.

Stop in, you won't be disappointed!

We live in the neighborhood and have meant to stop by here forever.  The other night (after walking out of THE MASTER-horrible film), we were walking home and decided to stop by to get something to eat.  Our server came by promptly and I took advantage of the $5 all glasses of wine deal with a nice pinot grigio.  My partner ordered the French Onion soup and took advantage of the $2 all taco deal with chicken tacos.  I ordered the grilled cheese panini with bacon and avocado.  When our food arrived, I took a bite only to discover that it had spinach instead of avocado.  It took awhile to flag down our server (she was working both inside and outside) but she apologized and took my sandwich back.  She came back and told me it was her fault she had pressed the wrong button and apologized again.  Having worked in the business for years, I was waiting to see if that was it.  But, she knew what she was doing, brought me another glass of wine on the house and then brought out the sandwich which was quite good.  So, all in all, it was a good time.

BUT...this is a bar folks.  Yes, it serves food but it's primarily a bar.  I think the baby strollers and the children that young...this is not the place to be bringing them.  Some couple had their giant stroller the size of a VW bug parked in the way so people couldn't get past it and they were taking up 2 tables with their assorted children's accoutrements.  This place is tight and packed already...CAUSE IT'S A BAR!!!  On top of that, there was some little girl running around the place all by herself, getting in the server's way and making a nuisance of herself at other tables.  I looked around and there was no mother or father trying to find their child.  All I kept thinking was...this little kid could be scooped up at any minute and what would you do then???  What is wrong with parents these days?

Wow! This neighborhood has changed. When I lived here 10 years ago, there wasn't much on Broadway except places to buy dance music CD's and a Seattle Best's coffee house. I've moved back and Broadway has improved a lot.  Rocks is a welcome addition, even if it's just a bar with decent food.

We stopped in on a busy Friday night and after about a 30 minute wait, we were seated. It was a bit cramped but not a big deal.  I had the Don Corleone chicken sandwich. It was okay. Nothing at Rocks is ground breaking. My partner had the Santa Fe wrap but he found it a bit "bland" and regretted not ordering the Buffalo Chicken wrap.  Our friend, who had dined here before, ordered the burger and let us know that they're kind of known for their burgers. I lived in WI for 8 years and while I wasn't a big fan of the state, they do know their burgers up there so I doubt Rocks could come close but I liked my meal enough that I would definitely be back if I was in the neighborhood.

I LOVE Rocks! It has become a staple of me and all of my friends who live in the area. We frequent Rocks on Sundays and Mondays for football. The drinks are great, the food is great (I LOVE the Leeroy Brown), and the service is impeccable. Everyone is very nice and very attentive. Would recommend to anyone, anytime!!

Great spot!  Had a surprise party for my friend's b-day there this week.  They were accommodating even though it's a smaller bar/restaurant.  I read mixed reviews so was prepared for the good and the bad, and ended up being very pleased, aside from the server not being all that attentive.  Perhaps because tip was included in the bill so she didn't have to actually care?  I don't know.

    What I had:

I had the french onion soup was perfectly cheesy, not overly filled with onion and just generally very very good.  My main course was the buffalo chicken wrap which was also very good, but spicy and messy so be ready!  The tater tots were tasty, but I only got like 9 so I was a little sad...not that I actually needed to eat anymore, just wanted to.

    What others said they liked:
The burgers were supposedly delicious, especially that pretzel bun.  I was told the fajitas were good as well.

I can't wait to go back and try the Leroy Brown!  (aka heart attack on a plate)

A nice East Lakeview joint, with good beer choices and great food.

Really excellent burgers and the mac n cheese bites are delicious. I always have good service even when they are really busy on weekends. The patio is nice when it is warm out. They always have good beers on draft and an overall good selection.

Their brunch is also really good and they have big mimosa pitchers for really cheap.

This place is sweet! Located in the busy area of Boystown, everywhere is packed so don't count on getting a seat straight away.

The sandwiches were huge and delicious, however we waited a loooooonnnnggg time for them. I ordered the Leroy Brown which is as "bad" as they say it is! Full of Mac N Cheese, pulled pork and onion rings then topped with cheese on Texas Toast. Highly recommended.

Oh and if you're a bloody mary fan, place your order pronto!

Love the burgers at this place. Very good bar food in Lakeview.

Mac & cheese wedges are what I usually like to eat here followed by a buffalo chicken wrap with sweet potato fries. Washed with a featured draft.

But, honestly, if you don't have any health risks, go for the Leroy Brown. It's your app and meal in one sandwich...they load on mac & cheese, top it with chortle bbq pulled pork, onion strings on texas toast with cheddar & provolone cheeses. It comes with your choice of a side (sweet potato fries). Wash it down with their featured draft.

I just moved to the Lakeview area in Chicago and decided to give some of the restaurants in the area a try!

My boyfriend and I just happened to walk by Rocks one day and went in on a whim. It was an odd time to go out to eat (between lunch and dinner). The restaurant was pretty empty. Our server was very friendly and willing to answer any questions we had.

After looking at the menu it was apparent that Rocks offers a lot of daily "deals". We didn't take advantage of any of the deals but it's definitely something we would go back for. I wasn't very hungry so I just had the hummus plate off of the appetizer portion of the menu. I thought it wasn't going to be much but the plate came loaded with veggies , pita, and hummus! I couldn't even finish it! My boyfriend got the rocks burger with the pretzel bun. It was huge and very delicious. However, I felt that some of the items on the menu were a bit overpriced.

They have the option of sitting on the patio or inside. On nice days, sitting inside isn't such a bad deal since their windows are open to the outside. It was pretty hot when we went so we got a table inside and it turned out to be just fine.

By no means am I a whiskey drinker but just looking at the menu tells me that if I was I would like this place even more.  The beer list is pretty decent and it's a good atmosphere.  The outdoor seating is nice.  The staff is very friendly and on top of things.  Overall a nice place to relax and you can avoid the Wrigleyville d-bags a lot of the time.

I like this place!  It can be kind of over-priced, but the service is really great.  There is a very extensive list of beers and daily food and drink specials.  They have some good cocktails on the menu too!  I can't remember which ones I've had, but I know I've tried a couple and enjoyed them.

As for me, I always get the Big Kahuna with chicken breast (you can swap a chicken breast for a burger on any of their burgers here!) and I love it.  On Mondays they have wings for $.50 (which isn't great when I recall the days of $.10 wings at Brothers' down in Champaign...), but the wings are REALLY good.  They are dry rubbed and grilled.

Nice outdoor patio seating also, and they have those huge windows that swing open in the nice weather.  There's a jukebox too... makes for a fun place if you're in the area!

Leroy Brown is soooo damn scrumpy! $5 Manmosas are a crazy good deal, and those Blood Mary's are off the chain with a snack skewer.

We had a long wait - and that weird thing happened where our waitress disappeared (ended her shift) but she never replaced herself - so we had to track down someone inside to pay.

The atmosphere of this place is really cool.  I like the setup inside.  They have outdoor seating too, but I'm not really into eating and drinking whilst shooing away nasty pigeons and dealing with the elements.

The waiters I've had have always been nice and attentive enough considering they are usually busy.

The best part?  They serve tater tots!!!  Need I say more?!

Our server was friendly, the night air was cool but not cold, the food was delicious, and the prices reasonable.

Almost docked a star because homeless people kept hitting us up for food, but they actually wanted to rap for the leftovers, so it ended up being kind of funny.

Well above average -- like a neighborhood bar with a bit more polish. They have a spectacular selection of good spirits, a great beer list and very satisfying bar food.

The staff is attentive and friendly. I made a mistake in ordering something I thought was on special. The bartender realized my mistake and gave me the price I had mistakenly assumed rather than punishing me for my own stupidity. ;-)

I stop in her now and again and always have a good experience.

I've been here numerous times and never had a bad experience. I lived across the street for a few years and this place is a great local option with great food.

Their buffalo fries are the bomb and their burgers are all delish! Their French Onion soup is also really good except I don't like that they melt the cheese over the side, as a cheese lover it seems like a waste because you can't eat it.

The drink options are great, there's pretty much something for everyone.

My only complaint is that they have great daily specials but their 1/2 off wings on Mondays are skimpy. They're cheap but you get what you pay for which isn't much. They're usually always only partially sauced and really tiny.

Other than that this place is great for a game or a casual bite!

I was blown away by how great their burgers taste. I place it in the top ten in Chicago. The service is always great and run smoothly. Nothing of note about the atmosphere.Typical low key sports bar/ grill. It gets pretty crowded and by that point I would just as well go somewhere else.  If you live in
the area stop in for their grub.

My experience at Rocks was baffling to say the least. I went in for brunch this past Saturday around 11am. We ordered our food only to wait 30 minutes (and after asking another waitress to check on our food) to actually have our waitress come over and let us know that our 'food was on the way.' 45 minutes goes by and a manager comes out and tells us that our food is on the way, but she understands if we just want to leave. What? Seriously? No, 'I'm so sorry, your brunch is on us or could I get you a complementary cocktail while you are waiting.' Nope, you guys can go, it's cool. Sorry for making you wait an hour.

All while telling us there was a back up in the kitchen. Which was odd, because all of the people around us had been seated around the same time and had already finished their food. Double odd - I ordered an omelet...how hard is it to crack some eggs? Apparently too hard for this place.

Never going to this place again.

This place was really quite awful.  The service was horrible, the kitchen was slow, and the food did not taste good.  The only thing that tasted okay were the fries, which obviously, aren't hard when they are per-ordered and coming out of a box.

After we waited for about 45 minutes to get our food, we realized we did not have forks, napkins, salt, ketchup, etc, at our table.  After waiting another 10 minutes our server finally came to check on us and then provided those essentials.  She was really not a great server, she literally would disappear, I didn't even see her in the restaurant at most points.

The food was terrible.  I didn't expect fantastic food, but I didn't expect the food to be this bad.  I would skip out on this place unless you are just going for drinks and fried food.  But, it seems as though the service is consistently bad.  So, I think that's something to bare in mind when there are so many other options out there.

Service used to be horrible, and food was ok.  I recently gave them another chance after boycotting for a year, and I'm impressed.

Obviously it's not a gourmet restaurant, but for what it is, it's great bar food and stellar service.  To-go orders are ready when they say, and food is hot when I get home.

Stopped in for a bite to eat after doing some shopping.  The place was pretty busy since the Cubs game was over.  Place looks a little bigger from the outside but they were able to get us in.

General bar/pub fare, I have the build your own burger which comes with many options...and you can never go wrong when tater tots are offered.  They have several tvs which are showing random sporting events.

Given the Cubs and being nice out the place was crowded and loud...if that is not your thing you should avoid this place.  If it doesn't matter to you then go on in, have a beer and a sandwich and enjoy.

It was busy but not overly busy so my friend and I thought this would be the ideal location for a fun Sunday brunch.  Sadly, this turned out to be the brunch from hell!

All of the tables were taken so we sat at the bar.  Ok.  No big deal.  I like bumping elbows with the person next to me!  Actually, they should but the chairs CLOSER together so we can bump more than elbows, if you catch my drift!

After scanning the menus we placed our orders expecting to wait no longer than the customary 20-30 minutes.  After a whole HOUR we finally got our mediocre at best food.  I was very unimpressed at the lack of presentation and bland taste of my breakfast burrito.  I mean, seriously, I could totally get a better breakfast burrito from GRINDR!

Rocks:  super long wait, mediocre food, watered-down coffee

3.5, 3 because of the dreary server.

It is quite loud in here during the day, sunday it was packed! the music may not suit you if you have a dirty hangover.

Food is pretty good, sweet potato fries are spot on!

Our server didn't show much interest in us, we had to ask for drinks (colas) after our food came out, didn't see much of her, a different server even got refills for us when passing at one stage.

The server asked us was everything ok and then disappeared, hopefully she was fired. the 2 servers that took over were a delight, really showed up our previous scrounger. Especially the girl who brought out my deep fried snickers (which is delicious mmmm).

YUM, Rocks!  I first discovered place over two years ago.  Situated just down Broadway from home it has become a favorite.

I personally go here for burgers and sweet potato fries, but the menu is extensive and good basically all around (with the exception of the buffalo chicken wrap that I don't care for).  A burger cooked medium is always the way to go.  Try the burger of the month!  July's burger is my favorite - the Star-Spangled burger.  It comes on a pretzel roll with lettuce, tomato, cheddar, two other cheeses, cocktail weenies, pickles, onion straws and chipotle BBQ sauce.  It combines the hotdog and hamburger for a July 4th cookout treat.

Each week night has a food special though.  Taco (and wine) Tuesdays and Salad Thursdays.  I think they also have beer battered fish on Fridays.

There is also a whiskey special of the month for $5 and even a beer of the month.  I enjoy the Man-mosas - a twist on the classic Mimosa - OJ, champagne and Grand Marnier for the mix.

I recommend getting the food hot at the bar as the carryout isn't as good!

Give yourself a high five ladies!!   You are A+ all the way. No wait...make that A++

After spending nearly 20 minutes at ChistKindleMarket in Daly Plaza, we decided we'd had enough of the spiced boiled wine, freezing cold, and lines.   Next stop was Rocks.

The host was efficient, without being pushy, and seated us right away. A+

Rocks has a sports bar feel,  but also a fairly large menu.  So it's a good place to get a drink. Or mabye a drink and a burger. A-

    We ordered:
    Wings (hot)
    Daisy Cutter (my fav)
    Orangesicle Martini

After chit chatting with my companion for a minute or two, I excused myself and headed to the bathroom for a sec, while we waited for the food and drinks.

Then, I spent the next 30 minutes throwing up. Thankfully, at no time did any staff  bother me or interrupt in any way...  even though I was being pretty loud. Thank you rocks staff. I appreciate the consideration.  Privacy A++

Although smallish, the bathroom was clean and welcoming. True,  there were a few ads for specials on the walls (I don't like this)..but  it wasn't overbearing. And as a plus, they have those dyson airblade hand dryers.  Love those.  Too bad there were no mints on offer.  But, its really not that kind of place so I can't hold that against them. Bathroom design: A

Unfortunately, I didn't get to try any of the food or drinks here.  But I was impressed by the service, as well as the ambiance, and beer selection. I'll definately be making a return visit.

The moniker is due to the fact the have an impressive whiskey and cocktail list which generally is served on the "rocks" or that the blaring music and loud patrons make you feel like you're at a concert so deafening the building "rocks." I've been a few times and here's some pebbles and gems I've encountered. When I was unemployed I'd stroll past and see the Sysco trucks making food deliveries so got a general idea of the ingredients. Here's what we've had the visits:

    White Trash Nachos
A classy pile of jumbo corn chip scoops (Frito scoops) topped with rocks black and blue chili (made with Guinness and PBR), jalepenos, queso cheese, and sour cream.
Surprising good. Rich and messy, but what the s? Read the description.

    Hummus Platter
Hummus with veggies and pita triangles.
I like Hummus! But when it and the veggies are bland it's about as exciting as watching a snail race. Meh.

    Chicken Wings
10 wings tossed in choice of Buffalo -Angry HOT!, bourbon BBQ, or Chipotle BBQ with celery and buttermilk ranch.
We choose Buffalo. Now anyone who says it's "Angry hot!" Must subsist on applesauce, dry toast, and jello. I'm looking at YOU menu writer! It's not that hot. But had sass. They say pizza is like sex. Even when it's bad or boring, it's good. I'd say the same about wings. It didn't ROCK my world but was good.

    Derby Burgers
Four 2 oz. Burgers on fresh pretzel buns, with onion strings, tomato, and choice of six cheeses. We choose cheddar.
Surprisingly good. The bun was tasty but the function of it was too big, IMHO.

The beer and whiskey list is impressive. The cocktails are rather nice. I've enjoyed the chocolate martini several times, the dreamcicle orange one a few times, and a fruity punch one.

The patios are really fun to get away from the volume (crowd and decibal wise) of the indoors.

The service is pretty good. The servers are cheerful and knowledgable if you have questions.

The price points are a bit high and off putting for the location and quality.

But it's close to me and close to many businesses and public transportation. I'd rock my sox over again for encore visits.
