My first Ruth's Chris experience was definitely not my last! Â My expectations were through the roof because of all I've heard, and somehow they were exceeded. Â The staff is very friendly and accommodating, the ambiance is modern and beautiful, and the good is melt in your mouth delicious. Â I had the bone in cowboy ribeye, which was finished on a sizzling plate with butter. Â You would think the butter would be too much, but it seriously added to the overall flavor and experience. Â The sweet potato casserole was one of the best sides I've ever had...so sweet and decadent. Â Service from Nature was on point...professional and not too stuffy. Â The restaurant was packed on a Tuesday night which was nice to see, and it seemed add though every table around me was loving their meal as well. Â Great experience and can't wait to go back!!!!!
Review Source:GREAT FOOD . . . Subpar service:
The hubs and I went to Ruth Chris this past weekend for a belated Valentine's day celebration. I assumed the place would be packed on a weekend evening but was surprised to find our section only about half full. Thanks to some of the other reviews here, we were able to pick out a great meal. Started with the Osso Bucco ravioli which were incredible and followed those with Caesar and lettuce wedge salads. The veggies in both salads were crisp and fresh, dressing was tangy, and the croutons and ample shavings of cheese were a nice touch. Also enjoyed the filets and the sweet potato casserole during the rest of the meal.
While our food was excellent, I was surprised by the level of service we received. It wasn't terrible, just not what you would expect in a classy restaurant especially given the meal's cost. Dirty plates from one course weren't cleared for 15-20 minutes after we stacked them up, had to flag someone down to get water refilled, the bread basket never showed, and perhaps most annoyingly it took us 45 minutes to get to go boxes and the check after we asked for them. To be fair, our waiter did seem to be trying his best and really seemed like he was running all night long; he even comped our dessert to make up for the long wait. At other nice places in the city, it feels like there's a team of people taking care of you (bussers, runners serving and pouring water, plus the usual great service from the waiter), and here it seems like its all on the server which made for long waits between courses and inattentive service.
If you;re looking for a place to celebrate, I'd consider heading to one of the other great steakhouses in Cinci.
My boyfriend took me to Ruth's Chris for our Valentine's Day dinner, and overall, I would say this place was good, but not great. I came in hearing nothing but wonderful things about this place from friends who have eaten either are this one or one of the chains scattered across the country. Maybe that was to this place's disadvantage that I came in with such high expectations...
Parts about this place that were awesome:
It's beautiful inside and so much bigger than I would have expected! The staff was incredibly friendly and chatty, perfect with their service, and overall just really great. (Thanks Vincent!) My boyfriend got the ribeye (his favorite) and it was absolutely cooked perfectly, not to mention, tasted more delicious as you kept eating. We also got a side of the au gratin potatoes, and you could just smell the garlic-y goodness the second they brought the plate out. It was amazing! Oh, and let me jump back to the beginning - I can't forget about the bread and whipped butter! Both just instantly melted in your mouth and oozed buttery goodness - a perfect way to start off the meal.
Things that were not as awesome:
First off, let me say that they didn't do a poor job. It just didn't meet my exceptionally high expectations as I went into the night. I ordered the petite filet with shrimp, and they were beautifully presented and plated when it came out. The filet was incredibly tender, but I was a little disappointed that it came out overdone. Maybe it's the ridiculously hot plate these meals are on further cooking my dinner as I'm eating, but I would have assumed this process would have been perfected by now. The shrimp was also pretty good, but nothing about my meal was phenomenal. The only reason I gave a 3 star rating is that Ruth's Chris is KNOWN for their steaks, and it should be the one thing that is absolutely perfected for a chain like this...especially for the cost you're paying to eat there.
I would still recommend this location for steak-lovers, but personally, I'm in no rush to head back.
Been to Ruth's Chris routinely in my travels (DC, Toronto, Dallas, Columbus, and now Cincinnati). Always great service, always FANTASTIC food, and extensive wine list. Decor is always robust in hardwood, and the smell (and sound) of a Ruth's Chris is second to none.
The Cincinnati location is par for the course, as the food was par excellance. Calamari is a wonderful appetizer and one I highly recommend.
The one negative, which prevents it from being 5 stars, is the service. Our waiter Jay was a very cordial fellow, but was either having an off day or had too many tables. The waits for some of the follow ups (more bread, another drink, etc.) was often a bit excessive and got to the point where you start looking around for them trying to make eye contact. Not partfor the course in my experience at any Ruth's Chris, so this may be an anomaly based on one night.
The bread pudding is AMAZING (albeit HUGE in serving size), and was just melt in your mouth good. They also have some chocolate cupcake that I can't remember the name of, but it was unreal. Chocolate mouse base, peanut butter top, all dipped in chocolate, and with frosting on top. Died on went to heaven on that one.
Note that they do not have anything on draught per se, but do offer a lot of local beers (Mt. Carmel, etc.). Not a negative by any means, but something to keep in mind beforehand.
Not sure how the guy below got a brown bag, as the leftovers were presented in neat little packages with a great bag to carry it in. Then again, I'm not sure who really cares that their leftovers are in a fancy bag that they can show off. Seems like the most trivial of complaints.
Everyone often compares to the locals (Ruby's, Mortons, Jags), and I tend to think of Ruth's Chris as a bit higher than those. You won't have a bad meal by any means at any of those locations, but Ruth's Chris tends to be a little more quiet and sedate, which makes enjoying your meal all the easier. Ruby's various joints (and Jags) tend to have a much higher volume going on around you, which isn't quite how I want to enjoy an expensive time out.
Let me first say this is the 6th Ruth's Chris Steakhouse I have eaten at and this one being new I was hoping that it would be a different Ruth's Chris experience for me. But unfortunately, they are all the same in my opinion and I have to Yelp that - "Meh. I've experienced better".. Â not just in my travels, but even in Cincinnati!
What was GREAT
The STEAKS - it is hard to find a better cooked, seasoned or prepared Steak.  It is what is expected when you pay $48 for just a steak.  So, I ask myself if is it really great or just what I should expect?
The SERVICE - the wait staff was professional and courteous - top notch!
What was OKAY:
The Calamari - really liked the chili sauce/Asian infused taste.  Would have rated it great, but they were over-breaded and small in size.
The SALADS - crisp, fresh and with original dressings.  But weren't anything that excited anyone's taste buds.  They were okay, but not out of the ordinary.
The BREAD - warm fresh roll and soft whipped butter (had the bread been seasoned or flavored it would have been rated great, not okay)
What was NOT SO GOOD:
BBQ Shrimp - these looked like your typical small sized shrimp you get at Red Lobster on their shrimp cocktail.  Funny thing is the Shrimp Remoulade we ordered had large sized shrimp/prawns. Hhmmmm.
The Sides - ordered 5, so I think we got a good variety.  The only one that everyone liked was the Mushrooms, which were cooked perfectly and seasoned very well. The Broccoli was steamed and very ordinary, no seasoning.  Asparagus - no seasoning at all, very bland, didn't taste very fresh, was like my grandma used to make in boiled water and the Hollandaise sauce was cool and not very tasty.  Mashed Potatoes - again, just very bland, like you would get a Denny's.  Scalloped Potatoes - big thick slices that really needed to be smaller to help mesh better with the flavorless cream and cheese, noted there were no onions in this dish and no chives or any seasonings to speak of.  To say these sides were pedestrian would be an understatement.  When you are paying $9+ for a side at a place like this, one SHOULD EXPECT to be blown away by what they order, not reminded of last nights take out sides from Boston Market.  VERY DISAPPOINTING!
Doggie Bags - I am still blown away by this...we had lots of Steak left over and asked for get our left overs wrapped up and taken home.  The waiter returned with BROWN PLASTIC BAGS that said "Thank You" in red letters on the side -- just like you would get a local gas station when you buy 3 bottles of Gatorade.  Seriously, brown plastic bags.  I have never seen a restaurant charge what Ruth's Chris does place food in plastic bags like this.
Having eaten at Jags, Eddie Merlot's and the Ruby establishments in Cincinnati, I can tell you that I would be hard pressed to return to Ruth's Chris simply because I am routinely blown away by Jags & Ruby's restaurants.  I just know that for the money spent at higher end Steak Houses like Ruth's Chris, you should leave there with your taste buds exploding and your mind blown by the unique, flavorful and tasty one of a kind dishes you experience there.  Unfortunately for me and the 4 people I entertained there, this wasn't that experience.
I have not eaten a full meal here yet, and I am not a stake connoisseur, but I have wanted to check it out and had the opportunity to go there for a happy hour. Â The decor is nice. Â I think it may be popular with travelers to the city being a very well known and respected chain. Â I usually try to frequent local restaurants over chains, but will at least check out any new chains. Â I need to go back their and try out their dinner menu. My 3 star rating is just based on what my initial experience was which is limited and the fact I am not really a steak house type of person. Â
I did order a dish off their happy hour menu. Â I had their crispy lobster dish and I have to admit it was excellent. But it does not not seem right to judge a steak house on a Happy dish that is made of lobster. Â The decor seems like an upscale steak house which is what it is.
The service was fine, no complaints about that. Â All in all, it was what I would expect from an upscale chain steak house. Â
My main concern is that once the casino is built is we will have 5 upscale steak houses (3 chain, 2 local) downtown not counting Bon Na Braza, which I think may be more than be supported.
It's all about the steak at Ruth's Chris. I went with Ruth's Classic so as to avoid being nickeled and dimed by their a la carte menu. My filet was the best steak I have ever had; it literally melted in my mouth. The sweet potato casserole was absolutely decadent--much better than the creamed spinach and the mashed potatoes. Service was excellent and not at all slow. Pricey place, but well worth the money!
Review Source:Date night with the hubby and since he loves steaks eating here was a no brainer. Â Our reservations were at 8:00 and although we waited about 5-10 minutes for our table to become available it was well worth the wait. Ahi tuna for our appetizer was extremely fresh and tender. Â We had the tbone for two as well as the sweet potato casserole. Â Absolutely DELICIOUS! I highly recommend this restaurant.
Review Source:They matched my napkin to my dress and have delicious steak! Â In other words, this is the place for fashion savvy carnivores.
My husband brought me here for my birthday and it was the best steak I have ever had! Â I don't eat meat (especially beef) often, so when I do I want it to be damn good. Â Ruth's Chris didn't disappoint! Â I'll admit I was a little skeptical because it was a chain but they proved me wrong. Â
We had made a reservation in advance and they had our table ready for us. Â The restaurant is decorated like a typical upscale steakhouse. Â It was nice but nothing stuck out to me as unique. Â My favorite part of the evening, besides the food, was my napkin. Â Upon seeing that I had a dark grey dress on, our server switched my white napkin for a black one so that I wouldn't get lint on my dress. Â Now that's service!!!
Our server was very nice and not in the least bit snooty. Â He had great suggestions and made us feel comfortable. Â I had the vintage manhattan to drink and it was great. Â I ordered the ribeye as my entree and it was (I'll say it again) the best steak I've ever had. Â It is served on a 500 degree plate so it may be wise to order your steak rarer (is that a word?) than usual as it will continue to cook. Â I asked for my to be as rare as they could legally serve it and they did just that. Â It is also cooked in butter, which automatically makes it delicious. Â We split a side of the potatoes au gratin and they were also phenomenal. Â The sides are definitely large enough to split. Â My only complaint is that my plate for the steak was quite small. Â Maybe I eat like a neanderthal, but I kept feeling like it would fall off. Â This is a tiny complaint though.
When our server heard it was my birthday he made sure that I had a surprise for the end of the meal. Â He brought out a giant plate with "Happy Birthday" written in chocolate sauce. Â On the plate there was a giant peanut butter chocolate cupcake and fresh berries with cream. Â It was soooo good! Â Ruth's Chris definitely made a special occassion feel even more special. Â It is very pricey so if I win the lottery you may be seeing me here a lot!
This location has been open since 10/15/2012. We decided to have our ninth Anniversary dinner here. We arrived and found our table covered in rose petals, a nice romantic touch.
The food was amazing. We each had the fillet which is broiled at 1800 degrees and served on a 500 degree plate to keep it warm during the meal. Service was impeccable and our dessert was to die for. Chocolate sin cake, which was more fudge like than cake with a hint of expresso and creme brûlée . The chef piped Happy Anniversary in chocolate on the plate. A perfect evening.
