This bar feels out of place on the westside. I think it belongs somewhere on the eastside where the patrons are as angry and uptight as the management here.

Combo that with high drink prices and barely any room to move around and what do we have. Another failed bar. The only pro is that you can walk 60 seconds to a couple of other bars that know what they are doing.

What is good about this place is that it is never very packed and the crowd is rarely rowdy, because it tends to be 30s and above.

I have only been in a couple times and service has never stood out one way or another.  Drinks are cheap and strong enough.  Bar is clean enough.

Not the first place I would stop in Cheviot, but not the last...

We ventured here on a Saturday night wanting to explore the mysterious West Side.  We went in around10pm and there were probably 10-15 people in the entire bar.  Going in we thought a record was going to scratch and someone would belt out "what are you doing here??"

This bar was not like that at all.  Having been into many dives, I expected a dark, dingy, pee pee soaked heck hole, this bar on the other hand was the exact opposite.  There were large windows to let in a lot of light.  The tables, chairs and pool table all looked relatively new and well taken care of.  Heck the place was spotless, and even the bathroom was in great shape.

The atmosphere is definitely a traditional blue collar working class bar.  They have all sorts of local historic photos on the wall and police uniforms on the ceiling.  The jukebox seemed to play a better version of what you would find on a classic rock station; however, some more contemporary songs did play.  For some reason the jukebox kept breaking every time a Little Wayne song came on, and finally after the third time of doing it, someone yelled out "that's what happens when you play sh*t."  We all had a good laugh.

Oh and the beer, how could I forget about the beer?  They had Bud Heavies for 2 bucks and most of the other stuff seemed pretty standard.  They also served a local wine that is apparently made up the street.

If you have managed to find yourself in Cheviot, this is a great, causal place to stop with some buddies and grab a few drinks and watch some sports while listening to some cool music with some cool people and then write concluding run on sentences in your review...

Beware!  The saloon has moved to Harrison Avenue roughly...eons ago.  The bar currently has almost nothing to do with its Second Street namesake.  However, it does sport some excellent service.  Otherwise, this is your basic shotgun Harrison Avenue setup.  Pool tables near the back.  Lots of televisions.  Lots of dudes discussing the sports on the televisions.  Pretty typical.  Again, great service.

Damned if they do. Damned if they don't. I was looking for a not-packed place to chill out on a Saturday night when I went into Second Street. Congratulations to me - I found it. And in the middle of Cheviot, where I wanted to be.

Good for me: Seats at the bar and quick and easy service. Belly on up, and have a couple or a few. Whomever loaded up the juke box did a decent job by me, and it felt pretty good to be there. Everyone seemed to be having a good time.

Bad for them: Just what was good for me. It wasn't packed late on a Saturday night. That may have been because the rest of the places in Cheviot pretty much were packed that night, but I'm not sure. If it isn't packed on a Saturday night I'm wondering why? Again, for me, I wanted not-packed this night.

I'm going four stars because it fit what I wanted during the visit. If you go and bring friends and you pack the place then good for you, but if I'm there and wanting it to be not-packed again then you carry the burden of my dropping my four stars to three.
